I think that her dad died because she said that her robot was built by her dad, and she appears during the part where we find out that every single spider man loses their dad, so, her dad probably died

Yeah both her parents are dead like with most to all spider-men, the spider inside her suit was originally bonded with him but went to her after his death which is what allows her to use the SP//DR suit.

There are multiple canon events that happen. Death of a father figure (her dad, uncle Aaron, uncle ben, Tony Stark, ect.), friend being venom and subsequently fighting them, death of a police captain close to spider man, are just a few of those events
