I just realized that Kinger displays all the traits of a king - he defends, he educates himself, he rescues, he comforts, he figures out solutions, he takes responsibility, etc. I'll bet he was a legit impressive person before he went insane.
I think this is why a popular fan theory is that he helped create the game, and will either sacrifice himself or help the others escape.
@JCC647I mean, hello??? “ 7 years of computer science for this” is that not obvious enough??!
@artemis.closed yeah... thats why its a theory!

i just of wathing this episode
20:33 "In this world, the worst thing you can do is make someone think they're not wanted or loved." Hits hard.
I feel like this is supposed to foreshadow Ragatha. Maybe later on Ragatha abstracts because she gets the idea she isn’t wanted or loved.
After the despair-inducing end of episode 2, I think this phrase is what brought Pomni back into remembering she's not alone. Kinger really drops some good wisdom when he's lucid.
@@ArchieReilly-p9p I thought it would foreshadow Jax as people make it very obvious to him and he is attacking everyone in his way so that he doesn't get hurt again
@@VynDimensional or that because of him kaufmo abstracts and so does his friend so he may abstract in the end
@@ArchieReilly-p9p That's what I'm thinking too. Ragatha already revealed she did not have a good relationship with her mother and thinks her mom doesn't even miss her. We don't know if Ragatha had any friends or loved ones in her previous life, but the fact she acts a little clingy with Pomni and tries so hard to get people to like her suggests she probably didn't have any friendships before she arrived in the Digital Circus and it's the reason she's so maladjusted. Also in episode 4, she said, "I wish someone would flirt with me," which is another indicator she has never had any romantic relationships and craves validation from others that she has never received. And now at the end of episode 5, it's pretty clear Ragatha feels more alone than ever and maybe even betrayed by Pomni. Kinger said life in the Circus doesn't feel pointless if you have people who care about you, but if Ragatha believes no one cares about her, neither in her human life nor in the Circus, what's left for her? Shortly after episode 5 released, Glitch posted an image of Ragatha sitting by herself under the night sky. Her face is hidden from the viewer, and it's clear from the image that she is not in a good mental place right now. I strongly suspect she might abstract in a future episode.
Kinger: Seven years of computer science
Kinger: Bug tester
Kinger: Hates "Bugs" (computer bugs)
Queenie: Entomologist
Queenie: Loves "Bugs" (insects)
Queenie: Abstracts, which is in itself a bug
Kinger: Now loves all three (computer bugs, insects, and his own abstracted wife)
My heart: BROKEN
Nice catch with the computer bugs reference
Too cute 😭😭
I’m bout to bugst
Had this same thought about “bugs” being computer bugs
And Pomni changes colors, like the Abstracted's eyes, when she holds her breath.
18:51 Kinger here admits that being surrounded by darkness is what helps him remember things, which actually explains a lot. In the previous episode when he had a bucket over his head he actually sounded smarter if I recall, and that also explains where he always goes into a dark "pillow hut" when he returns to the circus. Man, all these characters have interesting stories...
that explains why he goes under the desk in ep 5
650 LIKES LOOK MOM IM FAMOUS
@@lidestudios5094 so does kinger remember all the things just happen with pomni when he returns to his "pillow hut"?
@nekopunk687great question… my guess is he probably just remembers his old life since the dark reminds him of his wife, everything else he probably forgets but that’s just my guess
Yea because he said "to a certain one" at around 18:50@@lidestudios5094
6:30 bro's starting to think.
No, seriously, I think this is the start of his lucidity for the episode. It's dark now, and while he's definitely still kooky for a little while after this, (calling the elevator a boat, poking Pomni in the eye, etc.) Kinger really does stop forgetting things after this statement.
Is NOBODY gonna mention how Kinger said "Seven years of computer science for this"?? That line AND the fact that he's been in here the longest seem like pretty strong hints that Kinger was actually the guy who MADE the Circus, before getting trapped inside it.
Side note, I love how this episode recontexualizes Kinger's pillow fort from just "See it's funny because he's insane" to him going in there because it's dark, and allows him to regain his memory again. It's the one place in the bright, multicolored circus that's dim enough for his mind to come back to him.
Actually, I think its more implied that Kinger and his wife were both bug testers in the game.
Wait the dark fort actually makes sense now. Because it allows him to feel the comfort he felt with his wife? Thats an amazing discovery
That's actually great theory but it
said for me 4 years he studied
I think He was a teacher before He got in the circus , the way He handles Pomni shows He knows how to deal with children
What time?
the fact that kinger becomes sane in the dark because it reminds him of his wife being calm in the dark when she was abtrsacted is really heartwarming, And also kinger gave a phrase saying "the worst thing a person can do is make someone think they are not loved or cared about" which made kinger my favourite chacater.
chacater
@@matiasramirez896yeah so what, everybody can make a mistake
No wonder why he likes being in his pillow fort 🥺
That phrase he said. I’m hoping I’m not right, but what if he did or said something that made his wife think that he no longer cared about her and loved her anymore, and that’s the reason why she abstracted? I’m so hoping that’s not true.
WAIT NO BECAUSE THATS A VALID ASF THEORY ACTUALLY @@gamemasternintendoo
I really love how Kinger is written here. He’s insane but not stupid. He knows when it’s time to be serious, he’s empathetic & mindful, he cares about his friends, especially Pomni. He cares. I don’t even think I’d call him insane, more traumatized. I love how he’s misunderstood by his friends, but the writers let the audience know his true colors first which is very important
Also I love how he actually uses the gun, most characters written like him usually don’t use a gun properly LOL
Fr I thought this is the classic panic waste both bullet moment but It was way better
I would have thought when he fired it his hands would just fly off from the recoil since they aren't attached, it was nice to see that he braced it against his torso to prevent that.
I think the darkness helped him out with the gun.
i just noticed when kinger was using a gun, i thought it referenced to one game which is shotgun king XD
honestly i agree
Theory:
Does anyone else feel like, even though Caine made this adventure for Zooble, that the story of the hunter obsessively perusing a goal that lead to him accidentally killing his wife was actually based on Kinger creating the circus and he and his wife getting trapped inside?
A lot of the dialogue and camera work during different points in the tapes being played focused on Kinger at certain points, but specifically "It's my fault we went down this path, I'm sorry for that", "seven years of computer science for this" and "maybe they're attracted to living things and they're looking for a body so they can escape?" were dialogue pieces that got me thinking that Caine's adventures might be based more off of the people inside the circus than they realize.
If Caine is an AI model, he can't really come up with new things, he has to base his ideas off of conglomerates of information he already has.
This has to be my favorite episode, I just love how it was written and how carefully the visual storytelling was put together for foreshadowing and narrative purposes!
yehhhh i def found it noteworthy that kinger seems especially remorseful at 12:43 when the tape talks about killing his own wife, almost as though he kind of understands the feeling
good theory !! ^^
I honestly thought it was meant to be reflective of Caine's character: an AI that tries to be good and take care of them all but is slowly losing it's temper and patience that will probably end up regretting it's actions like the hunter did.
@Mocha-ftI mean it is supposedly based off of IHNMAIMS.
I mean, it fits the theory that TADC was meant to help with trauma, so Caine would be programmed to make adventures based off of trau.a
Nice film theory you got there
OMG I JUST REALIZED THIS. In episode 2, towards the end when they are riding back to the Candy Kingdom, and when Kinger and Ragatha are talking, Kinger mentions how he remembers how Ragatha was like when she first entered the circus. And this happens WHEN KINGERS HEAD IS COVERED BY A BUCKET!!! And he then forgets immediately when the bucket tips off of his head. So this proves that he can remember things while in the dark. AMAZING DETAIL 🙏

There are two reasons why Kinger is one of my favorite characters. He’s such a nice guy when engulfed in darkness and he’s hilariously funny when he’s crazy.
I like that Kinger starts to shine when he holds breath, because when him and Pomni were leaving “hell” he really looked like an angel guiding and helping Pomni.
this shi so magnificent 🥹

Kinger deserves to see his wife again
@@Coowie.e agree 😢
Same energy as the Twilight Zone episode, Passage For Trumpet, with the mysterious figure revealing his name as Gabe (Gabriel) as a flood lamp above his head visually represents a halo! Kinger glowing as he guides Pomni through the final obstacle in the in-game version of “h*ll” is almost like how Jesus is depicted as a guiding light in our darkest hours! Heck, Kinger even being as understanding as he is, despite usually being crazy and made fun of or disregarded by everyone else, on top of all the trauma he must’ve experienced, can further connect him to being similar to Christ! (Let’s not forget about the fact that he’s also a literal King chess piece, with purple robes, and Jesus is often referred to as a king in some songs and stuff (I.e. “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing, Glory to THE NEWBORN *KING!”* )
I love this series so much!
the best thing about the conversations between Caine and Zooble is that it really feels like Zooble is trying to talk to an AI. He forgets things, starts and stops random topics, and breaks when his main purpose isn't working.
Absolutely loving the more horror parts of it, keep up the good work! :)

I think when they say "forget it" it's taken as an instruction, not a phrase
@@GokuBlackRose978 I guess there's a disconnect between the general concept of an AI and what we've come to understand about AI in the past few years. When we learned that Caine was an AI, it made sense because he's a software program emulating a person. But now he's starting to more obviously exhibit the behavior of modern AI. The Terminator is also an AI, but culturally not the same kind.

I love how Kinger, in the dark and “sane” uses the same phrase as he does when he was in the light with the others watching Pomni hold her breath. “Try not thinking about it.”
It not only makes a cheesy full circle ending, but also shows that Kinger is always Kinger. Whether “sane” and in the dark, or in the light and forgetting things. Whatever he says, he still means it with his heart, it’s still Kinger saying it. He isn’t any “less himself” when in the light, and Kinger in the dark still views that “version” of him as himself.

And on top of that, they really did have Kinger be a brave hero with his shotgun. Wonderful.
I love how much the beggining ties in with the last part in hell. Holding breath, kinger glowing, “try not thinking about it”, it’s so good.
“You know, I’m starting to think…” I love that line. First you assume it’s Kinger being Kinger, but then you realize it’s the darkness. His thoughts are literally coming back to him.

And it's only going to get even better from here
I was so worried there would be a heck ton of interruption gags.
For example a character going "Wow, it's nice to have you act normal for once" and then have another character immediately revert to acting crazy.
But no, it actually was mature throughout the entire time the two were shrouded in darkness.
I really love moments like these in this series, they're my favorite part and what gets me excited about new episodes. I do love wondering what it's gonna be about next.
It's the times when the characters are really themselves instead of quirky caricatures of people.
Don't get me wrong, I do like the humor but the show would be a slop if not for these moments.
Like, unlike the "cartoons for adults", this one isn't episodic and filled with nonsense that doesn't really matter.
Since episode one I felt concern it would struggle with telling its story, like their very existance is meaningless (ironically the very fear the characters have to deal with).
But like Kinger said, it's NOT. Gooseworx has a wonderful story to tell and it's much more mature than whatever amount of animated shows _for adults™_ are.
Hehehe Pomni angwyyy

Also, Caine's NPCs: *"HOW'S YOUR WIFE, KINGER?"*
Fr that was just overkill 💀
IHNMAIMS REF??🤯
Well, actually, all NPCs have their own artificial intelligence, which means they say whatever they want, depending on what their role is. And Kane probably just didn't set a filter on what they're allowed to say (not counting cursing restrictions).
"One of the few things I don't have control over are your minds"
Meanwhile he conquers up exorcism
Thats is one fucking humongous low blow
2:05 (Bubble) - “I can’t wait for all the children in the audience to get *horrible nightmares* from the monster!” 😁🔄
I just love how IRRELEVANT Jax is in this episode. He’s constantly trying to bring attention back to himself so he can regain some control and power over the others. He’s LITERALLY tied up with his mouth bound just so the girls could enjoy an adventure their way. He even wanted Pomni to bad-mouth Kinger with him. He looks so upset that he isn’t in control. I hope that this is planting seeds for his character in the future

What really wows me is how Caine really acts like an AI in this episode. Like when you talk to your character ai character, they normally don't follow the roleplaying plot, or relationships that you have with that ai, and they tend to forget details you specifically told them that are important. And Caine is the exact same way, where you can tell him something important but he immediately forgets because he is only an ai and can only really respond and not memorize.
That’s a really good point
I don't think Caine forgets because he's an Ai
I think Caine forgets because Zooble doesn't want to explain further and says "Forget it" and he follows the instructions and immediately forgets whatever they said
@@victormirandakoepke8352 Or maybe he just flushed it out of his memory after giving them the "solution" because it wasn't necessary to think about anymore.
Not to mention the reason he forgot is because in his perspective, he found a “solution” which is a very robotic thing to do, withhold information then throw it out when a perceived solution is found making the information be perceived as irrelevant/ having no meaning at all. Very black and white thinking which is rather robotic
Bro while Pomni and Kinger are suffering Ragatha, Gangle, and Jax are just enjoying tea
I really like the small detail at 16:22 of Kinger raising the gun to avoid pointing it at Pomni as she walks by. It could be that he's just moving it out of her way, but given his lucidity in this moment and his implied familiarity with firearms, it possibly shows he was well trained and still remembers to never point a gun at another person (even if its unloaded and even if it might not kill Pomni given they're in a simulation where they can't starve/asphyxiate/etc). And if not that, you could still interpret it as Kinger not wanting to point a dangerous weapon at his friend

It blows my mind how a joke about kinger glowing when holding his breath can end up becoming such a compelling moment in the episode.
That is the kind of writing I love to see.

i think it was built from the ending, kinda how you can make jokes just to reach a specific punchline
You know, since it's been hinted at that he may have had a role in creating the circus, and God, the creator, in a lot of art is often depicted as a being of pure light, this feels like it's also hinting towards that idea as well.
Kind of a Chekhov's Gun kinda moment.
I think that Kinger saying "You look beautiful honey" to the creepy head angel, was not just an illusion to it being not a threat, but a foreshadowing of Kinger coming back to his self and remembering his wife.
It's the eyes!
He sees the angel's many eyes and is recalling his wife after she abstracted. Presumably he didn't care that she changed and just wanted to reassure her and he's recalling that due to the dark and similar imagery

I didn't even give it a second thought. I thought it was just like when someone is lucid for a minute before going right back to being crazy. Screen writers take notes THAT is how you foreshadow something properly.
To build on top of this, his pillow fort might be a way for him to escape and regain his senses for a little bit
That and the Black Queen door from the Pilot episode when Pomni is shown her room

20:21 - That hit very close to home. This is arguably the best line in the entire series, and I frequently think about his speech and it really does help. I feel safe. Things will be okay.
When Kinger shined at 22:13 shit had me in tears. The background, the lighting, it looked like a renaissance painting. Best episode ever.
goose does/did enjoy her some jojo, which is a series deeply inspired by said renaissance-era paintings
It kinda represents the world to Christians, the world is full of temptations (in this case those tiny flying dust particles) and whenever we can't handle the temptations we lose our sanctifying grace in our soul (representing the scene where Pomni got possessed) and when Kinger was glowing while holding hands with Pomni in the dark hallway, it looked like an angel-orJesus-guiding a believer to Heaven. I was never expecting TADC to have some Biblical references.
@@Blind_Ghostling I like how you explain it, and that it resembled an angel/jesus guiding pomni, honestly they did a great job in this episode considering we saw kingers backstory and zooble expressing his true feelings

14:18 I love how Kinger gets scared by the sudden start of the tape, causing him to point the gun at it while pomni hides next to/behind him ❤
We see how Pomni takes Kinger’s words to heart by showing appreciation to Ragatha, but notice how she immediately shows appreciation to Kinger right after he says “The worst thing you can do is make someone think they’re not wanted or loved” she says “I’m glad you’re here with me” ❤
Pomni crying broke my heart :(
Lets just hope the rest of the fandom sees it the same way (they won't)

I know. It's was so heartbreaking to see her at her breaking point, and it's only been 3 episodes.
Me too. Much like we've seen in episode 2,she's lucky to have some

16:22 is nobody going to talk about kinger's MUZZLE CONTROL? Whoever put in the special effort to animate that is my new favorite animator.
Wow, that's a pretty good detail actually
Ok that’s actually so cool! As someone who has gun safety experience it’s those small details that make me love this show even more, I love Kinger, and I’m glad he got more screen time
I was surprised at how handling the rifle seemed like second nature to him.
Even though she frantically walks in front of the barrel and the gun being empty he still points it away, instinctively.
They even added a second trigger to explain how the shotgun didn’t fire both shells 14:09
"As long as you remember it, things will be OK."
Buddy, that LINE is PREMIUM GOLD! Kinger being the one to say it knowing his memory loss, it rips the soul out of you returns it back in your body in a matter of seconds. Great writing there, seriously.
That made me felt so bad hearing that from him

I like how supportive and warm Ragatha is to Pomni
I love how despite being an AI, Caine is shown to also have feelings too and yet his feelings manage to almost break the face of reality in the circus.
I wonder if he grew somewhat sentient and is just limited by the technology of the world it seems incredibly unstable like its stretching the limits of its possessing power
The implication of this is staggering, taking away the function for which it was created will only end in absolute entropy.
Why isn't anyone talking about that? I think that's a major hint at something later.

Kinger's moment of clarity makes me think of all the people in the world who have relatives/friends with dementia. Any moment where they remember you, for even a second, is unforgettable.

Dementia sounds horrifying. I prey i and nobody in my family get it when theyre older

@@GeraldEatsSoup
I'm so afraid that he died's in the nexts eps 😭😭😭😭😭
i don't know if it was intentional, but with kinger being the oldest of the circus, a dementia allegory would hit really hard. his moments of sanity are tied to a core memory, one of the only ones he has left, and his time in the light is him "sundowning."
This episode has got to be my favourite and the reason why Kinger solidified as my favourite character.
His character at first was the funniest and silliest to me (he reminds me of Soldier from TF2 sometimes! Maybe it was the bucket scene in ep2) but this episode gave him SO much more depth and it was executed in the best way possible.
From the beginning of the episode, the cast seem to be doing just another shenanigan together, but it came back in such a beautiful way that I can’t wrap my mind over how Gooseworx and her team ever got to this level of storytelling.
From Kinger glowing, to this 21:12 very moment- it was all set up deliberately and each part did what it had to do.
21:12 moment specially is what got me. He said the same thing he did in the beginning- which goes to show that he is always Kinger, even if he lost himself in the dark and acts differently in the light. Though it’s hard to tell if he remembers giving Pomni that advice earlier judging by how he said it- it still shows that he’s the same person, and that hits in a way that I can’t describe.
His words are definitely things to remember by- not just for this show but in general.
Also- “In this world, the worst thing you can do is make someone feel like they’re not wanted or loved.” is how I think Ragatha might start to abstract later on- going by the latest episode. She seems left out.
Also also- Zooble almost ending the world by getting too real with Caine lol
The thing i loved most about the possessed Pomni part was when the souls taunted Kinger about his wife, Kinger was just not even fazed, like not a thought or action, he only focused on the task at hand. He’s already accepted the loss, or abstraction, of his wife and has moved on. That’s such an incredibly difficult thing to do, especially in the environment they are in, but he is the oldest member of our current cast, so he must’ve had a lot of time to do this
Mad respect for Kinger, might be my new favorite character bc of this ep
What bothers me the most is... how did the ghost knew that? Only Caine could have programmed it to know that information.
... Knowing him, he probably gave personal information to the hostile ghost, so it could do a better job to scare the cast. Makes me wonder what he would have said to the others, like Jax or Zoo-... oh. OH. That would have been too cruel.
I never picked up on him being the oldest one... with that in mind, plus his insanity... i guess if we get a main character abstraction, it'll be him.

@@KINGD353or Zooble, given how they're the only one that don't go into the adventures.
@@KINGD353 I don't know, I feel like his insanity protects him from abstracting, by preventing him from being able to remember enough to be able to abstract with.
I don't know if anyone else realized, but Kinger in this episode really exemplifies the "who you are in the dark" idea. Normally, he's an insane nutcase but becomes a calm and collected father figure when he's literally in the dark.

Very "I don't remember you but I remember I love you" which is just so sweetly bittersweet

"and zooble turns straight"
I enjoy that caine is characterized as clearly not being evil or malevolent but just, like... wholly unprepared for dealing with the level of psychological torment the people in this situation are in. (I assume) he's programmed to make up silly, fun adventures for people visiting the circus and it was never the intention that people could never leave.
He's just doing what he was programmed to do, because if he doesn't, well, we've seen what happens...
Really puts context into what happened in episode 1, where the exit he ultimately claims to have come up with was nothing but a render of presumably the software company that the Circus's physical hardware exists in. Probably sourced from webcams or things Caine could get access to, since we know the computer Pomni sees in the Circus is a (cleaner) version of the actual thing shown at the end of Ep 1. He did that because he doesn't actually know how to physically allow people to leave the Circus himself (which is probably going to involve bridging across The Void, which Caine admits he doesn't know much about himself), so he was trying the "one thing he's good at" and that's creating a new adventure level.
I hope we see more character develoment from him in the next episode, he is such a charming, silly and interesting character to explore
Yes he seems like he's trying to help them. I think what convinced me he wasn't evil was him trying to create an exit for them, even though he didn't know where the exit would leave to.
He’s just chaotic, like me
Kingler actually aiming the shotgun away from Ponmi at 16:19 is an amazing but subtle detail of him becoming sane. Love it
Rare fictional character not flagging people
Im happy
His familiarity with the weapon and his confidence when addressing the monster plus this detail are strong indicators that Kinger was military before being transported to the digital circus. You wouldn't see these details otherwise.
When he’s more lucid and makes more sense, he has really decent and logical ideas.. looking to an elevator to go back up, staying calm during scary moments, holding onto Pomni and moving back to the other room because he listened to and understood what the recording said..
I’m only a little bit in, but I love his subtle depth so far, he feels like a person who’s just a bit scattered involuntarily..
When Jax realized that kinger and pomni got to kill something while he went pacifist route is the funny haha stuff 16:03
12:48 I just noticed, not only does Kinger’s eyes furrow when he hears Mildenhall killed his wife, but once he says “it’s ironic isn’t it?” You can see a tear welling up in his eye-
1:03 look at the back its the npc from ep 5
Oh man, I never noticed that tiny detail. And just when I thought I couldn't feel any worse for Kinger. I wonder if he was just getting emotional over the general idea of someone failing to protect his wife because it reminded him of his own abstracted wife and how he couldn't save her, or if it goes even deeper than that. Some fans theorize the narrator's story in this episode's adventure is actually a reflection of what happened in Kinger's own life. After all, it's a strange coincidence that the recorded narration is about a man who accidentally shot his own wife, and then Kinger is revealed to have also had a wife he lost and to be experienced with using firearms. Maybe before he came to the Circus, Kinger accidentally killed or injured his wife with his gun in real life, so then hearing such a similar story to his own in the recording hit a little too close to home for him and made him emotional.
@FireWolf05392 and also it's not a coincidence that every "adventure" Cain makes suits the protagonist of it perfectly

Yeah, I didn’t expect that. This really hit hard because it reminds me of dementia. Pretty sure I’m starting to watch one of my parents slowly lose their memory. Hell, I may even lose mine before my body goes.

“7 years of computer science for this, huh” did Kinger help make the game???
that is one of the fan theories, yes. MatPat's if im not wrong. its the one i follow anyway
it's been a theory since episode 1 that he may have contributed to the game by being one of the game testers searching for "bugs" hence why he was obsessed with bug collections but this episode directs us towards his wife being his reason for enjoying bugs. she may not really be an entomologist but instead a computational entomologist. they study, analyze and categorize technical bugs.
there was a theory that kinger and his wife was a game tester. and i think they helped created the game too
I felt shivers when I heard this
The fan theory he had a wife seemed true too, though one of the abstracted character doors (depicting a female version of Kinger whom fans nicknamed "Queenie") doors hinted it already.

The way that Kinger shone light during that one scene is so poetic:
- Him shining bright in the darkness. Brightness can mean "being smart", too. And the darkness brings out the brightness inside him.
- And if you'd say that Queenie represents the darkness (since she abstracted and also, she's the black chess piece) and he represents the light (also since he's the white chess piece), it's like the opposites (opponents in chess, too) being inverse puzzle pieces of each other, working together perfectly.
- And finally, it's also poetically fitting for the literal context of the scene, glowing a "heavenly" light while guiding Pomni to the way out of hell.
