Funny you mention the sound of rain on a tin roof. My grandfather was deaf, he had surgery to help his hearing and the first night he was home, he heard rain on the tin roof, he cried. That story stayed with me for years, the house my husband and I own had a concrete tile roof, after it was badly damaged in the 2011 Canterbury (NZ) quake and we had to rebuild, I insisted on a tin roof in honour of my Grampa, I still think of him every time I hear the rain on the roof. He died in 1983, exactly one month to the day after my father, and I value every memory I have of both of them.
Your comment made me think of my own grandfather and the times we stayed at my great-grandparents' old wooden house which had a galvanized roof. At nights the rain would patter on the roof and the howling coastal winds would kind of shake the house (it was really old😅) and rattle the front door. As a child, it was a little scary. But i look back on those memories and wish I could travel back in time 😊
Good tour! I have heard about these pre built cabins. Of course, I think building one from scratch has a lot more value. Not only does it help build your skill set, but it also gives one an attachment to the home that a pre-built could never accomplish. That's why I like what you have done. As always, thanks for sharing your videos! Rick From Virginia
@offgridbo I agree with what you are saying. I just didn't want people to think that what you had built was not a good idea. Might just be me, but I think the hard way of building it yourself has its own special rewatds. I apologize if my remarks came out to negative. Rick
I’m a huge fan of portable/modular buildings, so I love seeing these videos. I’ll probably buy some land and build out a custom finished portable/modular building for an off-grid cabin at some point. Thanks for sharing!
I picked up an after market cabin from a guys property. He needed the money and sold at a steep discount. It was thrashed, but new drywall, flooring and paint and it's brand new. I wish I could link a picture on here. 12x30 log cabin loft barn.
Maybe you should make a video or a short about it, and post it on your channel so that anyone who clicks your profile when we read your comment can see it.
Nice tour and these cabins all seemed fairly reasonable in price. I have to say, your cabin location is beautiful with or without snow. Just seems so peaceful and soothing out there in the woods. Snow, rain, sunshine, falling leaves, rustling trees, it is all good. Have a great day. Regards, Randy in Arizona
these have their places. i had one on a property several years ago. it was just the shell when i bought it. i got it enclosed and power ran. it worked nice for what i needed...then uncle sam came
@@offgridbo the state claimed i owed tax money, which i didn't and had to sell to pay for it. then ended up getting money back but property had already been resold
Great video Bo! I liked the "re-view" of the cabins. I guess building them would be my choice! Also, I prefer snow ❄️ than ☔! Dick was the man! He was the first to pen the words- putting self reliance on TRIAL". Have a great week and stay dry!
Awesome video Bo. I was very surprised at the prices of those tiny cabins. They are very affordable. Here in Canada you could add another 6000 to 8000 on those prices.
live off grid in a 32x8 motorhome on 1/4 lot in Idaho all utilities run on property line but choose to not pay for hook ups or monthly bills or higher property tax and R V park 2 miles to dump and free water or go into Salmon to get some gas so when its time to head south for the winter have a full tank to start out with and 5.00 dump free water and get food usually every 4 to 5.5 weeks
Bo, just found your channel today! What a treat! My wife and I have been retired for about 6 years now, and I am ready to leave this hell hole of a city and literally head to greener pastures. Been looking at going off grid for about a year now, but we are taking our time… just checking out what’s out there. Looking at small acreage FSBO. In possibly Idaho, Oregon, Montana and possibly some other areas. “Go West, Young Man!” It would be nice to email you if that’s available. I have some questions that I’d like to ask you about off grid life and set up. 😊How can I do that? Hope to chat soon! Jack
If you have the skills it would be much better to build something, but this is a great option for those who don’t have those skills. I have those skills and enjoy building things myself, but knowing what I know it’s difficult for a beginner to build something as well as a skilled person. So this is a great option for a lot of people.
not too bad for the one with the upstairs could actualy make a couple rooms up there if u wanted. one a lil bigger for the parents and one for the kid. i would still want some plugs and wires ran tho for a power system. would be cool to make a lil steam engine generator for eletricity. that runs on firewood then could have a well pump an hot water.
Hey Bo - interesting informations. Are these buildings insulated (the walls, roof and floor)? I find them rsather pricy. I remember when yiou did this some years ago but don't remember the exact prices, but thin it was less?? I like the option of a balcony on an upstairs floor/loft. They are interesting ideas for sure, altho some of the layouts seem somewhat unpractical... Thanks for sharing bro! Greetz Jason btw OMG all the snow is gone!!
Most are insulated my friend, I do agree not the cheapest but cheaper than I expected after the price of lumber the past few years. The snow will be back very soon I’m sure haha
@@offgridbo a break in the snow can help you cut up and split some more wood for the fireplace probably? Do you remember the aproximate difference in price with the last time you filmed there? PS did ya see instagram chat messages? Take care bro - greetz Jason
Wish we could get something liker this here in Florida.... With all the mobile homes here, you wouldn't think it would be difficult but very strict on hurrican code building. These would never pass
Thanks for the video, Bo. And thanks for sharing your life with us. I love how cozy that little oil painting looked. Did you make the frame for it? Be blessed my friend. :)
Of course! And thank you for being here! It means a lot. No I did not make the frame but I’m pretty sure the picture came from one of my thrift store adventures like most things lol
Wow! Yeah, I expected them to be quite a bit more. I haven't looked at these kinds of things in Canada, but I'd be interested to see the price difference.
Hey Bo . Ron from Mohawk valley sheds is a great guy . If your interested I have 8 off grid cabins on my property from Mohawk sheds all different styles if you interested at Taki ng a look at them let me know .
The biggest issue I see with those log cabins is at best theres 2in of foam in the roof. That's going to be under R16 where in your/my climate you should be having closer to a R49-65. Poor insulation under a metal roof will mean mold from condensation.
My wife still misses the trailer we lived in when we got married for the sound of rain on tin roof. Neat cabins, BUT the MAIN ISSUE is where are you going to be able to put one !!!! You're better off in Tennessee than in Ga. My Ga county REQUIRES 5 acres of land for tiny house, cabin or trailer. Some counties flat out BAN all of them !!!
T this price you could buy a house and land, and have less work to do . id never buy one of these unless i already owned my own land.this is like paying for one room at a time plus all the work you have to put in it. why not buy something already built and ready to move right in.

Yeah I definitely thought so considering the price of lumber ect. But they are Amish built so that probably explains it
