You should get 1 or 2 of those 1000L totes and collect rain water from your rain gutters and you would never have to worry about lugging water again! Awesome video and great work

I just want to thank you. I had never heard about hepvo valves before and my off-grid kitchen doesn't have room for a proper trap and I've been trying like crazy to find a solution. from what I've seen so far this looks perfect.

REALLY NICE BUILD!! While traveling through Maine, we were invited to breakfast at an off-grid house. They used wood chips in a 5-gallon bucket, in their bathroom. At this off grid house were 5 teenage boys. Needless to say, I had to do the doo, and thought for sure that if that bathroom already didn't smell like poop, it was about to. Those wood chips did the trick, I couldn't believe it.
I wonder if building something like this in northern Maine would work, or if how he did the pipes so they didn’t freeze would work. It gets mighty cold up there. I’d love to build something like this and he has the best, smartest ideas. Kudos to him ☝️
Your experience with installing both a shower, water heater, and a propane heater are the projects I had in mind for my addition up at our camp in northern Ontario. Freezing of pipes is an annual concern come winter and you covered that topic nicely.
Awesome set up. A murphy bed where your bed is at would open up alot of space. Just an idea. With your skills you could easily build the frame yourself.
My thoughts exactly, and I’d add a fold down table to the base, as a dinette top to use when needed. That’s my vision/dream but what he has is pretty sweet too. 👍
Totally love the whole thing, down to the details. I have to add on though. Dealing with an existing cabin. But I've gotten some great bits of info on how I'm going to add on a 5x8 shower, toilet and storage space. I'll run a roof 18 ft wide across the back of cabin and end up with two covered storage areas on either side of the addition. Roof line will match the short side of the saltbox style
solar panels will be awesome and the rainwater catchment is a winner I did a 55-gallon poly drum off one gutter downspout it's never been empty....yall looking good man
Nice little off grid home, you could always make some outside shutters too! :) And either make a shelf above the shower/kitchen to hold some 50 gallon barrels for extra water and put some on the outside to catch rain water filter that to the inside barrels for kitchen/shower too. :)
Thanks for the ideas about lighting! I am going to use some of them on my cabin. I heat my water in the summer in a black, 55 gallon, plastic trash can. It works wonderfully. I have put a hose connector at the bottom of the trash can to connect to a shower head.
For your gravity fed shower head you could use the same type of manual valve used in Navy shower heads. Open the valve, get wet, close the valve, scrub up, open the valve again & rinse off. No wasted water. (important if you're hand carrying the water)
As a navy Seabee my first trip was Vietnam, no barracks , we were birthed on the uss baxer a ww11 troop ship , showers for 30min per day get wet soap rinse get out . Fresh water wasn’t for wasting , sure was 😀 glad I wasn’t a real sailor . Only spent 4 or5 days on there but it was and is a memory.
Very nice job I really like your idea on the venting of the water heater. I built an 18’ tiny house on wheels. I towed it from Central California to the center of Montana. Great job adding the bathroom, you never know, one day you may want to live full time in it! You will need something like a fridge to store your cold foods, guess you could cook outside or on the woodstove! Love the window shutters!

Using custom cut microfiber foam blocks (or any kind of foam blocks cut to fit) you can put them in between the windows and the shutters you built to keep the cold out through the winters.
@@theyframedme I think you just moisten the window and the bubble wrap should stick. I haven’t tried it yet, but there are several videos about it. 🙂 Great use for all that bubble wrap from shipping that ends up in the trash.
I found I had winter freezing issues in my faucets. A very small amount of water stayed inside the valve and would blow out when it froze. For two winters I had to rebuild two sink faucets and a shower faucet. After that I removed them in the fall and replaced in the spring. I'm confident there is a better solution but tis worked for me.

Wow thanks much. I'm going to be moving into my 14x18 cabin before next winter that has no water, plumbing, electric or heat. I've been considering many ideas but loving your shower propane n electric set up. I'm gonna put in a wood stove, propane heater, Kitchen sink, cabinets, propane stove and probably a unique refrigerator. Probably going to get a well drilled up in the field above the cabin and use it to fill an IBC tote and use gravity to the cabin with a 12 volt pump there. Probably also going to use a solar generator and some panels for electric.

My water was by an elevated drum , fill er up , one line went to the kitchen sink , the other to a shower head , stand on a pallet out doors and wash . Company was always 😮 , didn’t work well during dear season . There still is a barrel full of memories of that place , wish I still owned it . Yours is first rate

just use the vent pipe from the stove wrap the copper pipe around it and then up on top of the shower with a tank or direct you get hot water constantly with the 12v pump.
Hi, Im building out my off grid as i speak, since you have the best videos of explaining and intelligent ways of putting yours together. Im taking notes and doing similarly. A question is, if you have time, for the camplux water heater, I would like to know if can be conneted up like a home water heater, having cold and hot water to adjust the temperature, or does it only run heated water. Ive done pex plumbing, sweated copper and done Mobile plumbing , similar to pex, yet this on demand system is new to me . Im taking many of your pointers building out my cabin like a RV, because its cheaper for supplies. I have my solar power system which is all LED USB lights , reducing the watts even further down than Rv lighting, as of 2023, the most efficient technology for renewable light sources. Thats why i really like the idea of this camplux being battery powered for the starter but only using propane. I am setting it up like yours , dorm style only the back area will be a walk through closet then a bathroom. I like the idea of dorm type, my grandparents in the Appalachian, had a bed for me in the living room and the kitchen , open area, Im wanting to caputre that old country cabin setting but with really cool modern technology and incredibly self sufficient and to be able to live comfortably in a 1800s or prior type lifestyle. I really like your ideas and im taking them to help in building my cabin.

Any time you burn propane it does put off some moisture so when I run the propane heater you will see a small amount of condensation/fog on the windows vs the fireplace which has none. Shower is 32"*32". Sorry but I can't come to Canada 😉

What is your opinion of it? How large of a 13 volt pump did you use? Brand? I have a camplux water heater but the opening at the top looks like a louvered vent- rectangular. Are you of aware of any way I could create or purchase something to set it up to vent out like yours? Thanks!

I used a 7.5 gal stainless beer keg for my gravity fed shower tank. Works great for a 15 min shower.. Great job on the cabin! Be safe..

Love it, for me I would have the loft half way through, more storage that way, and a small office to sit in.
