You may never see this, but . . . . my wife, who loves the voice prompts somehow accidentally turned it off and it made her nuts for close to 500 miles today! I had watched a couple of your videos and I thought to myself, self, maybe Subaru guy can help us. And you did. So simple, yet we never saw the obvious icon. Thanks!

So glad to help. I read every single comment, though can't respond to everyone. Hope you're enjoying the Subaru!

Thank you so much for your explanation. I just bought a used 2020 Subaru Outback Limited and when I entered the address in the navigation yesterday, I got the route, but no voice prompts. I was so disappointed. Navigation was one of the main features I was looking for in my Subaru search. Last night I was afraid Subaru navigation did not include voice, so when I googled it this morning, your easy step by step video is the first thing that came up! Thank you so much! And I love first Subaru!

My voice navi has not worked for a long time.. Your instructions solved it. Such a nice feature taken for granted. Thx!

    Ryan,
The nav voice was driving me so crazy, I got into an argument with her.
Thank you for saving my relationship .

Thanks for this very helpful video. I was trying to silence navigation voice using the Sound settings, but I noticed audio was cutting out during navigation events, just like you pointed out. I reset the Navigation voice to default and then disabled the mic icon like you showed, and it worked great! Also, thanks for showing me the route preview option!

Thank you very much. There are times that we want the nav voice and times that we don't. This was so helpful. Thanks again!

Thanks so much for your helpful info…I just bought a 2020 Outback Limited & am trying to familiarize myself with some of the electronics…I’m doing pretty good but I finally used the Maps nav this weekend & could not figure out what was wrong since I was not getting any voice prompts & the horn symbol was on…with your help, I found that the previous owner had turned the sound setting completely off…thanks again for your help! Love this vehicle!

I’ve used Apple Car Play for 4 years on other vehicle and occasionally Google Maps since its been available in IOS 12. We never have used Subaru GPS since Apple and Google are continually updated and easy to use, including traffic issues, detours etc. If the native GPS works for you, then use it but neither GM nor Subaru’s have interested us.
Do appreciate these tips. This is our third Subaru Outback (last was Touring), after years of Volvos. Expect we will continue with Subarus😄

Diane Fields the 2020 Outback XT Limited (this model) does include three years of Sirius Travel Link with real time traffic and other travel info so that may provide a better Subaru (Tom Tom) navigation experience than what you are used to, though it may still be inferior in some instances to Apple/Google/Waze navigation. Also you get to use nearly the whole larger screen with the native navigation which you cannot with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Google Maps is so capable in its features and intelligence it is difficult to really give that up. I find myself using the on-board navigation during casual driving conditions. With heavy traffic, Google Maps or Waze is unbeatable. I noticed there are some updates to the navigation system planned for future Subaru models. Hopefully we see a real meaningful improvement in capability. That said, they are so far behind Google right now it would take a monumental investment to even obtain feature parity.

I just got the same XT Limited this week. Having a really hard time getting Google Maps / Apple Maps to smoothly fade out the audio and not just cut out abruptly and awkwardly. Tried all kinds of settings and it’s kind of excruciating trying to use navigation with CarPlay while listening to Spotify.

@@simeyla78, Yes, I understand. There is a rumor that Apple and Subaru are working on an update. It might be release in the next few months. Hopefully the rumors are true and we'll get a solid update.

@@SubaruOwnerTips Great. It's hard trying to figure out whose fault it is sometimes. The fact that the front speakers cut out abruptly make me think it's Subaru's fault - and even when I disabled voice prompts completely within Apple Maps it would still cut out the audio to complete silence. As a software developer myself it is far more frustrating because I know how easy some of these things should be to fix. And don't get me started on Eyesight... I had to pull over on the freeway this morning because I was at my wits end with the flashing orange lights (that are now off). I just want to see a map and listen to music! Doesn't anybody test anything?

update to my comment of a month ago. i followed your tips, but that only disables turn-by-turn voice instructions, but it does not disable traffic conditions voice updates. very annoying. any other tips?

    • @jerryrobison3786

Yes, your right! It does not disable traffic conditions which is another annoyance in this crappy infotainment system.

I am waiting for someone to do a video to show what features can be controlled by voice command ?
Not just nav but all the other features for the car and not just what can be voice consoled thru Apple Play
    Any takers !

How do you just have less voice prompts? We have a 2017 Outback and there was an option for that.
We just bought the 2022 Wilderness and the prompts are nonstop.

That automated voice does get a bit annoying. It's nice to have an option to turn it off. Thanks!

The UX on this thing looks like they used a no code web app to develop it
