Thanks. I finally understand shortcuts. On the Travel Link Fuel Prices app your "sort by PRICE" is not showing. My 2012 Outback had it. My 2022 does not. How to fix it?
Have you thought about making a video focusing on what needs to be turned off prior to a car wash? I made a cheat sheet and put in in my glove compartment!
I have a 2020 Outback Ltd - When you are driving is the album cover photo suppose to display on my sirius - it seems to only appear when I am stopped or my foot is on the brake at a stop.
You can’t. It comes on by default each time you turn off the car. You have to turn it off each time if you want it disabled. It’s very annoying. I don’t know anyone who actually likes this feature on any car. The car always jumps at a stop light when it comes back on. Bullshit...
I am heavily looking at the Outback, but this infotainment system seems like trash (mainly no physical knobs for heat warmers/xmode etc) and this from someone driving a 2008 Honda. Are you telling me you cannot create a short-cut for a preset am or fm channel like you can in every other car from the 2000s/90s etc only xm channels?
Good suggestion. X-mode is actually really cool, but there are a number of limitations. The 2020 OB is surprisingly capable, even without X-mode. I've had it out in to some deep washes and got it on 3-wheels. Did great, even without X-mode enabled. It is an amazing vehicle.
I have a 2020 Limited Outback XT as well and I am not able to change the standard ringtone. In fact, there is no option to change this with no additional ringtones. Most times it will switch back and forth between one standard annoying car ringtone or whatever ringtone is on my phone. I am using an android phone. Anyone else experience this.
You mentioned that owners of 2020 Subaru Outbacks with the navigation feature receive SiriusXM free for 3 years. Did you mean 3 months, because that is what was included with my Outback.
SiriusXM Travel Link is included for 3 years. It is a separate subscription from the music subscription. As you pointed out, that one is only good for 3 months. The SiriusXM Travel Link and Traffic service is currently $6/month. It enables things like weather forecasting, fuel prices, and some information about traffic conditions. It isn't nearly as good as Waze or Google maps, but it works with the on-board systems on the vehicle.
That display is linked to a driver profile. I have a video that shows how I set up that part of the display here: th-cam.com/video/Jz-lya0qq2o/w-d-xo.html
Hi Andy, I was waiting to test things out before responding. I'm glad I did. The manual states that "shortcut order" is linked to driver profiles. However, I was totally unable to find out how this worked. I played with it for about 20 minutes and was unable to get shortcuts to change at all with the selection of different driver profiles. I'm going to chalk it up to yet another Starlink bug. My local retailer is unwilling to submit software bugs. There are so many they don't want to invest time to submit all the paperwork, and only a software update will fix them so they can't really help. Subaru of America is no longer accepting bugs as "real" unless they come from a retailer. I hope Subaru (Japan) realizes they need to hire a team of top-notch software testers who can methodically test every bit of functionality before another vehicle ships. I don't know if they realize a deadlock exists between SoA and retailers regarding software bug submissions. Maybe everyone in Japan thinks they are shipping perfect software?
Ryan, thanks for your thoughtful reply. We are going to order a Limited XT (red like yours) this week. I have been in contact with three dealers (Young, Nate Wade, and Mark Miller Midtown, and plan on giving all three a chance to give me a quote on the vehicle, as well as giving them the opportunity to check out my 17 Outback to determine its trade in value. I will place the order with the dealer with the lowest price. If, the lowest does not submit software bugs, then I’ll go to the second lowest quote. This will be my third Outback. Previously we had a 15 Limited and currently have a 17 Limited. Both have the Harman/Cordon entertain package. The 15 manual said that the system had the capability to adjust the sound level as speed was increased or decreased. I could not get it to work. My salesman, spent about 20 minutes trying to get it to work, asked several people in the office to no avail, and promised to get the answer from Subaru. He emailed about two weeks later to say that feature was only activated on the non-Harmam/Cordon radios. As far I can tell, it was not updated on the 17, but I understand it is activated on the 2020s.
@@andyburgess2996 I recommend adding Dempsey Bowling at Doug Smith Subaru to your list. Other things to consider while shopping include how engaged the retailer is with the community, how much they give back to others (really give back, not just check boxes), and what the ownership experience will be like at that retailer post purchase. I see little value purchasing a Subaru on its own merits. However, when you add together all the things Subaru does beyond just delivering a car the reasons to purchase simply blow away all other manufacturers. You want to find a retailer that understands they are selling more than a car, they are selling you an experience. Talk to everyone before you ink a deal. Ask them tough questions. Ask them to show you what the experience will be like. If the salesperson helping you doesn't seem like they know what they are talking about, walk away. Finally, no one in Utah is likely to give you a good deal on an extended warranty. If you decide you want one, contact Planet Subaru. It will save you hundreds. Keep in mind that a new transmission on a 2020 is a $6,800 part (just the part!).
Ryan, please help. I am going nuts because there is no legit way apparently to permanently disable the auto start stop. Can't believe I have to do is 10x/day. If I keep my car for 5 years that's 18,000+ times I have to do that. Have you solved this problem? Saw a hack, wonder what u think of it and if not done by the dealer could it void the warranty???? @
Generally my advice is use to feather the brake to control when it triggers. If that just doesn't work for you, a company is selling a device you can install that will work with the 2020 Outback. It could absolutely be an issue in terms of warranty or safety. The AS/S system in the OB uses over 100 signals and sensors to work properly. Disabling all those things is not a simple trick. And yes, I do know how to solve it forever buying no parts. It disables a safety feature, however, and I'm not sure it would be wise to share it. I'm considering making a video showing owners how to do it, with lots of "at your own risk" disclaimers on it.
Thanx for your quick response. I hope u post it. The elephant in the room is, why didn't Subaru set it up without creating a daily annoyance for drivers-makes no sense. The only 3 things I hate about the car the other 2 being the location of the wireless charger-another annoyance to pull out your phone when the car is in Park. BTW, does the wireless charger also charge the AirPods case??? Finally, the stupid agree/cancel text that comes on when the car starts-can that be disabled??? Please say yes.
It is a US EPA regulation that restricts what they can do for auto start-stop features, and impacts how fuel economy is marketed by Subaru of America. Not sure on the charger. For the warning screen, I just start driving. It eventually goes away on its own as you drive. We can only blame lawyers for that one! :)
Thanx Ryan for your prompt responses. I appreciate your high quality simply explained videos and look forward to more.Just purchase a 2020 Outback Premier in Canada which I believe is the Touring top of the line model in the U.S. I have everything except for the Turbo.
Two questions about messages I find very irritating on the touch screen. One: Is the airbag icon/light on all the time? It's irritating to me because I prefer to drive with the display turned off (because it is very irritating, day and night, and NOTHING is so nice to look at but there's always this bright airbag icon on the upper right. Also, can you get rid of the first message that comes up when you start the car that tells you drive carefully? And you have to say "I agree'" or wait until it goes away. What a stupid naggy welcome. Thanks. Ruth in Idaho
MDJ is the model code. It is a Limited XT, just like the one I own. Though in the 21 MY they added rear seatbelt monitors. Congratulations on the new Subi. I absolutely love this car. Make sure it has any recalls or updates done on it before they sell it to you, like the map update.
Way too complex and distracting. We're going to stay with our 2017 OB untill Subaru comes to it's senses. Real buttons work much better for the ordinary person than touch screens.
I've had my new Outback since May and I've been so overwhelmed! Thanks so much for your clarity in explaining SO MUCH!
Overwhelmed Oh so true. Me too
Best video yet! I can think of a number of good shortcuts to ad and I hadn’t even considered it before. Thanks!
Ryan
Can you please do a video of what voice commands will work ?
Thank you
awesome information....You mentioned Factory Mode. Press and Hold heat up and down buttons and click volume button 2x
I finally got it figured out and did a demo, here: th-cam.com/video/JM2r5e86lbk/w-d-xo.html
Bud thank you! Better than the salesman at the dealer!
Thanks. I finally understand shortcuts.
On the Travel Link Fuel Prices app your "sort by PRICE" is not showing. My 2012 Outback had it. My 2022 does not. How to fix it?
Your videos are SUPER helpful, I’ve had my Outback since September and did not any of these! Thank you!!
do all of these tips/hacks work also for the 2022 Outback Limited..? Great video - thank you
They should work with all Gen6 Outbacks, Legacys, the new WRX, and anything with the same software. Many of the tricks also work with older Subarus.
Very helpful there is a lot to absorb with this Outback, nicely done.
Thank you! Just got a 2021 Outback touring XT . Video so very helpful!!
Thank you for your video. I got mine yesterday
This was really well done! Thank you so much for a great video.
So many great tips! I love your videos!
Thanks for watching, Annie!
Nice video....love these kinds of tools!
Regarding auto start stop feature any chance adding short cut ... 1 touch icon to disable this function., thanks
can you do a shortcut to make a facetime audio call to an iphone contact? or even a facetime video call?
Have you thought about making a video focusing on what needs to be turned off prior to a car wash? I made a cheat sheet and put in in my glove compartment!
It is a great suggestion. It is on the list to do.
I have a 2020 Outback Ltd - When you are driving is the album cover photo suppose to display on my sirius - it seems to only appear when I am stopped or my foot is on the brake at a stop.
That is correct. Subaru says that's the way it is supposed to work.
Very helpful, thanks 🙏🏻
On a 2021 Outback the incoming call volume via BT or Car Play is so low you can barely hear. Tried everything to raise volume with no luck. Any ideas?
How do you turn off the auto start stop feature forever, instead of each time you drive?
I too am wondering this haha
You can’t. It comes on by default each time you turn off the car. You have to turn it off each time if you want it disabled. It’s very annoying. I don’t know anyone who actually likes this feature on any car. The car always jumps at a stop light when it comes back on. Bullshit...
Turn on defrost on right side of screen it turns off that feature without going into settings
@@gfire849 if I turn off defrost after, does it go back to auto stop ?? Thanks. Just got our new Touring. Lots to learn compared to 2015 Outback.

Can you make a video about Xmode and the proper operation?

How do you mpg in the top row of widgets? I have a bunch of options (weather at 3h and 6h/speed limit/oil temp) but not mpg

wow, thanks
Are shortcuts specific to a driver if the Legacy/Outback has the capability to set up driver profiles?

Off Topic: Is there anyway to Turn Radio OFF? (Not mute)
You can switch to a source that doesn't have any input, but I don't know of a way to fully turn it off. It is integrated in to the head-unit.
Press and HOLD the volume button for more than 3 seconds. A quick press mutes. Long press turns it off.
I love Subarus
Excellent. Thanks you
Ryan: I bought a new subaru outback XT/MDJ - what does the MDJ mean -
MDJ is the model code. It is a Limited XT, just like the one I own. Though in the 21 MY they added rear seatbelt monitors. Congratulations on the new Subi. I absolutely love this car. Make sure it has any recalls or updates done on it before they sell it to you, like the map update.
What is the point of most of these shortcuts when the vehicle has Apple Carplay and Android Auto?
