I looked through the comments to see if it was pointed out, but I didn't see it so... Stine doesn't remember writing about a giant mantis kaiju because the book it comes from (A Shocker of Shock Street) wasn't about the mantis. It was about two kids getting lost in an amusement park based around a series of movies called Shocker on Shock Street. The mantis was one of the attractions that tried to kill them by spitting tar at them and was never brought up again after they escaped. Stine doesn't remember the mantis until it spits the tar on the car.
There were actually quite a few books where the covers had nothing to do with the actual story. Two that I can name off the top of my head are “Creep from the Deep” and “Frankenstein’s Dog”. No giant eel ever showed up in CFTD and the dog was never sewn back together in the way that the illustration seemed to suggest. It never made sense to me as a kid why they didn’t show up in the story and assumed that I must have mixed up a chapter or something. For most books, the covers are a highlight of the book itself, but they liked to stray away from that, for some reason, every once in a while. A picture of some creepy ghost pirates would’ve suited CFTD so much better. There’s really no reason for me to be ranting so much about books that I read a decade ago lmaooo
I like how Slappy even resembles Stein! He literally looks like his puppet counterpart, just without glasses! Midaswell be his son, who he replaced with Hannah.
Slappy tells the monsters to "get rid of Stine" and then we get that scene of Stine stalling Slaply, who has the opportunity to kill him, but he doesn't. Instead he vents his frustration about being abandoned and locked away.
R.L. Stine apparently still answers his own e-mails and fan letters, which is neat. Did you know, the R.L. stands for Rine Line? Same with Jolkein Rolkein Rolkein Tolkein and George Rartin Rartin Martin.
32:40 Not only did they swap names, they swapped the careers they are teaching! Mr. Black (IRL R. L. Stine) is the new drama teacher since Jack Black is most famously known as an actor! And obviously Mr. Stine (Jack Black) is the sub for the English teacher since R. L. Stine is know for his books. I thought that was a cool homage to both of them. Also, would you be interested in talking about R. L. Stine's Zombie Town? It's a pretty similar movie to this Goosebumps movie but I thought it was a fun/easy watch. It's available on Hulu if you are interested.
Honestly, champ being a fan of R.L. Stine but being a coward is actually relatable, because, I, too, get paranoid and anxious about everything, but love horror 😅
30:12 Fun fact: the movie's lore for the monsters is generally lifted from this book! In it, a boy finds a magic typewriter that wills what's written into existance, and accidentally (sort of) releases the blob out of spite. Maybe that's why Slappy said he "saved this one especially for Stine" (the first one).
Fun fact the orginal 2012 script, while having the same basic plot, has a bunch of fun differences. Cuddles the Hamster is in it as Slappy's bond villain pet basically, there's more of a moral to it about being brave, a few fun in jokes, some other different monsters and so on. You can find it on the Goosebumps wiki.
I can't seem to find one from 2012, but I did find one from 2013? It starts with a moving truck, so I'm not entirely sure if it's the one you're referring to, but if you've got a link I'd love to read it! :D
I don't remember much about this movie, but the one line that I though was hilarious was when Stine starts writing the book he's talking out loud and says "it was a dark and stormy night.... Ooh no, dark and stormy was the night"
The scene were RL Stein gets mad about Stephen King makes me laugh SO HARD every time. As a fan of both authors, it's hilarious. Jack Black was an excellent casting choice.
I totally agree on the Hannah’s sacrifice bit, and another part of the movie that I think was incredibly underutilized was honestly Stine and Slappy’s relationship. Slappy is obviously incredibly attached to Stine and the movie literally shows us that they’re supposed to be two sides of the same coin! Slappy is supposed to be the epitome of Stine’s inner struggles and demons and yet their relationship is sort of, glossed over in favor of monster cameos and whatever teen romance Zach and Hannah had going on I love Zach and Hannah don’t get me wrong but I feel like you should spend more time fleshing out your villain if you’re going to give them a moment like the funhouse scene in the movie
Since the Hannah sacrifice was taken back, they could've spent less time with their romance and more time with Slappy & RL. &I do love that Jack Black voiced Slappy. Makes it interesting when they're going back and forth and just the whole inner demons in general, even in a meta way with Jack Black himself.
Yeah Stine and Slappy’s relationship was kinda underutilized in the movie. If I had the power I’d swap one or two romance scenes for some Stine/Slappy parallel scenes. I’m actually surprised Slappy never had beef with Hannah either. You’d think Slappy would be just as mad at Hannah for “replacing” him as Stine’s child.
20:02 it might be a reference to how in the book the mantis was only mentioned in a few brief sentences and wasn’t actually a real monster just an animatronic at the shock street amusement park but the cover artist really stretched it to make an interesting cover (because the book doesn’t actually have any real villains or monsters) so it became an iconic monster despite not actually being that way in the book itself
This movie is so nostalgic to me as a kid. I was so excited and couldn't wait for the premiere, and this movie did not disappoint. I still find this movie to be great because of the passionate team they had behind the project, and they did all of the monsters' justice.
Kingnusmi thank you so much for making a video on the Goosebumps movie, the first movie holds a very special place in my heart. This is going to be the greatest video ever, talking about a movie that doesn’t get a lot of attention which is sad but I’m glad more people are talking about it. Thank you once again.
Speaking of Goosebumps books that scared the absolute stuffing out of us as kids, "Please don't feed the vampire" was the one for me, I don't know what it was about the cover of that book that unnerved me so much, but it did. Along with the opening intro to the Goosebumps straight to video "movies" Another fun fact: I had every Goosebumps book when I was a kid and "please don't feed the vampire" was the hardest one to find.
I know this has nothing to do with the summary of the Goosebumps movie but I’m just starting to look at your bookshelf, and I couldn’t help but admire your collection: Uzumaki, Gyo, Tomie, Kaiju no. 8, Chainsaw Man (Immaculate taste), and PTSD Radio. Honestly, I think it would be really cool to see videos of the manga you own, specifically PTSD Radio not just because it is utterly horrifying but the behind -the-scenes is really interesting. By the way congratulations on getting 30K subscribers you deserve it.
I think the reason why the Ghouls have frost breath is because its cold in the clip with Stine typing he said “It was a cold night” so the Ghouls don’t have frost breath its just the warmth like how you wake up at midnight and use your nose or your hot breath to create steam

There are two other R. L. But idk, honestly this might be one of those cases where it was actually some kind of fever dream, not a real movie
If I were a writer for the Tim Burton one, I'd base my screenplay on "The Haunted Mask." Burton loves to write outsider characters, aand Carly Beth endures teasing and bullying. Her wanting the creepy mask and to scare people back is a nice parallel to Burtons real life and how he loves creepy things, and felt a connection to old school movie monsters. If he made it in the 90s, he'd probably cast Michael Gough or Christopher Lee as the shopkeeper, which would be a delight.
Fun facts: The opening title first uses the font that Goosebumps books 1-19 used on the spines. The guy who plays Champ, Ryan Lee, starred in the Haunting Hour episode, My Imaginary Friend. The Abominable Snowman didn’t destroy Pasadena, he actually saved it. Champ was wrong about that one.
I think it’s pretty common for very fearful kids to like horror. (Especially horror that’s a little less intense like goosebumps) because they can explore their fears in a way that can’t hurt them. you’ve been in my algo for like 2 days now and Ive probably watched 15 videos and literally fallen asleep to them which is a compliment i promise lol you just have a very nice voice and storytelling style and ugh i love it
Man, I didn’t know that George A. Romero and Tim Burton were both offered the chance to make *Goosebumps* films. That would’ve been amazing if either of them had made them! 😱❤️🎥
So, Slappy looks just like Stein(Jack Black) and calls him “Papa”. I wonder if there was any resentment towards Hannah, since she basically got to live as Stein’s kid while Slappy(who looks like his dummy counterpart) was trapped inside a book! He is after all, basically Steins Son as well since Stein created him. Wonder what made Hannah so special?
I think a chillogy type goosebumps movie trilogy could have worked, each movie being based/mixing certain books eventually culminating in a combination of all the books (basically this movie)
His aunt was the Demon who complicated the rebooted Charmed Ones’ lives and she also played an evil (“naughty”) elf… I’m not surprised she came in that strong with the characters that she’s played in my experience lol
the fact that this was your 30k sub video and your at 33.9k 3 hours after posting is crazy! you deserve the love your receiving and I love to see it :)
Also pretty sure the haunted mask was there. And during the blob scene I always wished they had the Monster Blood instead. Especially since it is one of Stine's favorite monsters. Edit: I was half way through the movie and realize you mentioned the haunted mask
I wonder if he’ll ever find a way to talk about the Phantom of the Auditorium musical- I think it’s such an interesting and not-often talked about adaptation
Speaking of that sacrifice, on the Blu-ray's deleted scenes, there was an alternate version of the scene where she comes back where she doesn't remember who Zach is and they basically have to start their relationship over. It kind of reminds me of the ending of Dark City but much less impactful (and from my memory, the way Hannah acts and the dialogue makes it feel more comical).
Cool to see you do a video on the Goosebumps movie as your 25k celebration video. I actually like the Goosebumps movie here. Love how the story went, the looks of the monster, especially Slappy, the references to the different Goosebumps stories, and the characters here. I like it in my opinion. Fantastic job making a video on this and congrats again on 25K subs! Can't wait to see where else your channel goes in the future.
I remember watching this movie in Theaters with my family and instantly fell in love with it. I remember my elementary school library promoted the film and sold the books at a book fair, It sucks that They never made a third goosebumps movie or anymore Goosebumps films. Although R.L. Stine did say he would love to do more Goosebumps films if they're more fear street movies, which Netflix is making more fear street films (or atleast one right now but they'll probably make more) so hopefully that's a sign we'll get more Goosebumps movies and a third film to end of the trilogy.
if you want a better insight on all the monsters in the movie i recommend the goosebumps movie monster survival guide! i used to have it when i was younger! it provides screencaps of all the monsters and what book they’re from!

Thanks
Just a suggestion, but Kingnusmi, can you do a vid on Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark? The book terrified me as a kid and the movie was pretty decent.
Ngl bro, you make my day way better when you post! I loved goosebumps when I was kid
I’m so happy I can make your day better!
you’ve been in my algo for like 2 days now and Ive probably watched 15 videos and literally fallen asleep to them which is a compliment i promise lol you just have a very nice voice and storytelling style and ugh i love it
also don’t worry i replay the videos when i wake up hahahha
Just wanted to say, this is one of my favorite comfort channels, please never stop posting 🙏
Man, I didn’t know that George A. Romero and Tim Burton were both offered the chance to make *Goosebumps* films. That would’ve been amazing if either of them had made them! 😱❤️🎥
Okay really vibing with the hair
This movie was such a interesting ride to watch! Overall, it was nostalgic to see the Goosebumps references in the movie ☺️
His aunt was the Demon who complicated the rebooted Charmed Ones’ lives and she also played an evil (“naughty”) elf…
I’m not surprised she came in that strong with the characters that she’s played in my experience lol
LOL I think most people say she’s from the office
the fact that this was your 30k sub video and your at 33.9k 3 hours after posting is crazy! you deserve the love your receiving and I love to see it :)
The gnome episode genuinely made me stare out my window at the garden in fear as a kid ngl.
Saw this video now twice. Looked both time! (Sry for my English, I’m German.)
I wish we had more of these types of movies where a variety of monsters run around wreaking havoc.
Ain’t no way I missed another premier. Champ is the best and my favorite character and has god charisma
Also pretty sure the haunted mask was there. And during the blob scene I always wished they had the Monster Blood instead. Especially since it is one of Stine's favorite monsters.
Edit: I was half way through the movie and realize you mentioned the haunted mask
Ahhh spoke too soon I see
I wonder if he’ll ever find a way to talk about the Phantom of the Auditorium musical- I think it’s such an interesting and not-often talked about adaptation
Fun fact in the book Murder is a protagonist but for some reason he is a villain and one of Slappy’s underlings
Oh cool! I didn’t know that existed lol
I really like Jack Black in this, this movie was the thing that got me back into goosebumps stuff! Which then led me down a rabbithole, and to your videos. So it's quite a special movie for me!
CONGRATS ON THE GOAL! IM JUST SO HAPPY UR GETTING A LOT MORE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT U! the content u make is of my fav media and i just love it as well as ur vibe i dont comment a lot but i do have ur vids in the background while gaming so thank u so much for the hard work!!!
We did not stop subscribing, because you’re awesome, Kingnusmi! Stay relatable.
If you liked the Goosebumps movie, you should watch Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed. It's one of the live action ones (the best in my opinion) and I think it has similar appeals.
7 years later Zack ends up being killed by ghostface
We need these weekly ❤
"Steve King *wishes* he could write like me* had me dying 🤣
Can’t believe I was late to the stream, but great vid anyway. I loved this movie when it first came out, but the sequel disappointed me so much (although Jack Black returns for like 20 minutes). Lol
Yeeeeeeeeeees thank you soooo much u don't know how happy I am that u used my idea ❤❤❤❤❤
Of course! Thank you for the idea!

30,000 subscribers?! Before you mentioned the milestone, I would no doubt have assumed you to have subs at LEAST in the 6-digit range. You seriously deserve to be way higher up there in sub count. Your video quality is on par with the huge reactors. You’ll be there soon enough, though!
I actually enjoyed both movies I hope you will review R.L stine Monsterville: Cabinet of Souls 2015
Definitely! I really want too
bro king, pls do an episode/video on the ''game over'' episode of the haunting hour.. it traumatized me as a kid and i have a very faint memory of it and i think it would be super cool to cover it, i love ur videos pls dont die
Congratulations, I’m so glad to be apart of your growth. Been here since before 10k lol
aunt lorraine is an icon and i will not allow this slander
I do love her to death… but she’s insane lol
Fun Fact: Dylan Minnette also starred as Donnie Gill (AKA Blizzard) in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He didn't get many appearances, (About two episodes throughout the 7 seasons) but it was a good performance.
Champ is the true star of this movie! 😂❤ He really made it funny!
