I thought the movie was really obnoxious and at times a little creepy. Not just with the nightmare fuel CGI, but seeing SpongeBob tickle people's feet underwater and sniff a pile of crap, made me wonder if this film had ulterior motives. It reminded me of the ugly side of Nickelodeon. Whereas most good Nickelodeon movies and specials will be packed with weird and hilarious imagery, bad Nickelodeon movies will be designed to pander to the youngest demographic while simultaneously getting away with a lot of creepy imagery.
The fact this video came out the same day as the Minecraft trailer & looks like Sandy owes SpongeBob & Patrick an apology for taking the name of Texas in vain
The current era of Spongebob media just feels like the writers don't know what people actually like about Spongebob at all anymore. They just see it as a kid show that has to be loud and busy at all times, with poop jokes, shouting, random faces, and they blended that with the worst element of Nickelodeon. Their live action cartoon movies. This movie felt like a literal fusion of the worst aspects of Modern Spongebob and the worst of their Fairly Odd Parents live action TV-movies.
Well, if the show gets renewed for a 15th season (which it probably is going to be), that MAY OR MAY not be a second redemption arc for the show (like a modern day Season 9 almost).

It’s just a little thing called… THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY. I mean, seriously, I get that they milk this show a lot, but you could say the same thing about any popular cartoon. Besides, again, it’s its ANNIVERSARY, so in this case it’s actually justified.
7:14 fun fact, in the film's Hebrew dub, sandy had two actresses: one for speaking and one for singing. Sandy's Hebrew speaking voice in the film was provided by naama uzen (Sandy's main Hebrew voice actress ever since the beginning of the series who also likely sang some of her songs in the series in episodes like the Texas and rodeo songs) while her Hebrew singing voice in the film was done by talya Barkey (who was this and SpongeBob on the run's dubbing director and also voiced karen, gary and the film's villainess su nami).

Yeah i started diving into the whole "Kids Movies Are Fine Being Dumb and Stupid", then I watched Legends of Metru Nui again, and began identifying with Vakama's lack of self worth and doubting himself based on expectations. Remember, this was a movie from Bionicle, a toy series with a movie length advertisement for kids.
This is not only the WORST SpobeBob movie, but ALSO one of the worst movies you could find on Netflix, AND one of the worst things to FEATURE SpongeBob. As great as the voice actors are doing, that is completely BURIED under the mountain of horrid writing, a lack of plot, weak animation, characters that contribute LESS than they do in a normal SpongeBob episode, and the worst COMEDY from the franchise yet. As much as we love SpongeBob, I would not recommend this to ANYBODY. In fact, all the OTHER SpongeBob movies can give you so much more than this. I'd even go as far as to say that you get more entertainment out of a normal 11-minute or even 22-minute episode than this whole movie. I give this movie a 1.5/5
I'm a native Texan. Sandy is a stereotype, but she's a stereotype that Texans love. There are only a couple of nitpicks, like the way she pronounced the word "pecan". She said "Pee-kawn" when real Texans say "Puh-kawn". And she always uses the word "Y'all", even when addressing a singular person, but those are the only gripes. We fell in love with Sandy, from the get go. Her character was awesome, and we always wanted to root for her. But they did her dirty. I wanted to see her in a movie that deserves her. But the age of the franchise is showing. Paramount/Nickelodeon is putting out terrible spinoffs, with bare bones budgets, and no quality control. I know SpongeBob has a lot of throw away gags, but there IS cannon lore, to this show. You can't change concrete elements, to launch your horiible, "SpongeBob Babies" spinoff. The first episode established how SpongeBob and Sandy met. SpongeBob came out of it's dark ages, only to get better, but then launch a bunch of repugnant spinoffs.
Something I feel like not enough people mention about early spongebob is the colors. The colors in season 1 are a lot less saturated than the seasons that come after, and especially this movie. Since each frame was hand painted, the colors were a lot softer and a little darker than what came afterwards. The CG in this movie could benefit from recreating that color palette, since that could seriously reduce the plastic happy meal toy look. Also, the superimposed head effect was the funniest part of the movie to me, precisely for how bad it is. It looks like a quick gag you would see in Gumball or Smiling Friends, but it's missing the irony and self awareness that those shows would use for something a gag like this. Also, those shows probably wouldn't drag the gag out for more than 30 seconds.
Hang on... Didn't they already do the whole "SpongeBob & friends help out Sandy with an above ground threat" in the SpongeBob Musical? Rodeo Daze, too, but we don't acknowledge that here.
It's nice to see a review of the this movie that isn't just “ThIs Is GaRbaDgE”. You actually explain it things you like about the movies, which is what most online critics fail to do.
I have not seen Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie yet, and I was not inspired to for several reasons; the backlash the film received, and the inappropriate-looking way Sandy was holding SpongeBob in the poster. When I decided to see movies on Netflix, I chose to see Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (2023) and The Little Rascals (1994), and I also plan to see Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) on that platform. Also, the earlier SpongeBob movies are better, with many saying the first one was the best.
I was hopeful about the Sandy movie. I was hoping it would be good because a Sandy spinoff could have had some potential if done right. What the hell happened here?
Netflix happened. That and the "all kids stuff must be obnoxious and insulting because it's popular to do so thanks to Cocomelon and TikTok" mentality at Hollywood and the animation industry.
I sincerely wanted for the show to stop being produced after the death of its creator, it make no sense for me that it continue. I feel like its mocking his legacy, his work, his passion, talent, creativity, to.. Whatever the show become.. Which is the total opposite of all of that.
Krabs, Squidward and Patrick were placed in a machine that made them able to survive out of the water. That is why they were outside Bikini Bottom in the lab.
I was one of thr few to see the leaked movie when ithappend last month. Honestly, 3rd best movie to me. All i will say is story was interesting and kept me watchin, villian was great, and for netflix release next year, not bad of 3d. I honestly agree with the CGI it looks off on some characters honestly they should've used the animation company that animated the PAW Patrol movies because I like PAW Patrol I grew up with it but when I first went into the movie I expected it to be another kids movie but I was wrong the animation CGI looks great the action and adventure the paw patrol movies had were something the show didn't do and there was even a deleted scene from the movie called Chase's nightmare where no joke it shows Chase dying but i honestly think they could've done what the paw patrol movies did and make fun of the merch they have which is what they seemed to have tried with this SpongeBob movie but failed badly

Also, your co-narrator sounds like she’d be a newscaster version of Cherri Bomb in Hazbin Hotel; I have no idea why, but it feels so fitting!
15:12 They actually do explain that. The scientists' plan had three steps, and the second one was to modify the DNA of the fish (or something like that) so they could breathe air, that way they wouldn't die. Patrick, Squidward, and Mr Krabs were the first fish they did this to, that's why they can breathe air later in the movie.
I've watched the movie (this summer) and... it's not that much horrible as lots would say (mid at best), but rather it needs far more improvement before it could be released to the public. So, for me at least, I'm fine of what they put here for the most part, but I'd always go back to the old ones, especially the original 2004 film and Sponge Out of Water. Thanks for the video, Strider!
I was hoping you were going to make a video about this movie. I felt confused while watching it and struggled a lot with the desire to just stop it. There's a TV channel called Duck TV which is aimed at babies and if you watch more than 1 minutes of it as an adult, you feel like your brain slowly gets into a coma. Well, I could say the same about most parts of this movie, especially in the end when the Robo-lady's head was weirdly dancing on the screen. After the credits started rolling in, I questioned myself what the hell have I just watched.
I agree that a sandy movie has a lot of potential and will get kids interested in Science if they put more blood sweat and tears into the project but Nickelodeon decided to suck their own thumb making this movie. But what i can give the movie credit for is that carolyn lawrence and tom kenny are killing it as usual
This movie is heartbreaking to me. I'm a sucker for SpongeBob and Sandy going on adventures together. Pre-Hibernation Week is my all time favourite episode. You'd think I'd eat it all up. The premise sounds amazing: Bikini Bottom is hoisted out of the ocean and placed into an aquarium so Sandy and SpongeBob have to go to the surface to get it back. It has a genuinely strong opening. The moment the two get to Texas, the plot takes a nosedive. I've read fanfics about SpongeBob meeting Sandy's family. "Spandy" shippers outdid the official showrunners. I swear to God, the whole movie feels like Kaz (the writer) is taking advantage of shoehorning his fetishes into an official product and getting paid for it. The only parts of the movie I remember is when SpongeBob sniffs poo and Sandy gets bitten by a snake and caused an explosion of inflation porn.
First time since sixth grade (2012) that someone has mentioned Beakman to me. I remember my science teacher slapping an episode of his on before classes would startfor the day. Love to see someone else watches his shoe because no one talks about him
The main reason why I didn't like this movie is because of the villain, especially the uncanny head effect! I agree Sandy deserves a better movie, but I really enjoyed the scene with the rattlesnakes!
For me I'm just frustrated with the whole live action CGI hybrid I think it would be nice for them to go back to like just an animated SpongeBob film that would be nice that's not CG
I love the original SpongeBob movie, but i wanted to walk out of the second (but couldnt because of my kids), and i NEVER walk out of a movie i have paid for, so i dosnt see the third movie. I think the secret ingredient was that Steve Hillenburg was actually the driving force behind the first movie.
Kid Danger: *wearing his mighty pup movie outfit* PAW Patrol AND Rubble and Crew have BETTER animation then the Sandy cheeks movie! Christ on a Honey Graham Cracker! I prefer the 2nd spongebob movie over that Sandy Cheeks movie!
That's because Paw Patrol's excuse is that their budget is specifically for tv episodes, while the budget in their movies are nesseary for a movie. They put in lots of detail on the fur and hair of the characters
Wait aren’t you the same dude who hates strider for some reason? Something about him having a different opinion than you? Why are you suddenly on striders side? Finally realized he isn’t a bad dude i take it?
My biggest gripe with the movie is animation because I don't know how, but I could definitely feel a green screen effect during scenes where the characters are moving, especially flying, and the plot is just ok
Something that really bugged me about this movie is the lack of understanding in SpongeBob and Sandy’s dynamic. Sandy seems more like a babysitter to a sugar rushed sponge, contrast to the original three seasons where they had a genuine friendship. They were entirely different people and have had episodes of misunderstandings and conflicts, but they were friends who fed off of each other and showed interest in whatever one of the other was doing.
What people who yell kids movie seem to forget is a lot of adults were kids when SpongeBob started I mean I was never a big fan but still have a couple episodes that make me giggle
I had fun with it but probably had more with the family like it must been akward being back with your family after being gone for some time. The villain was pretty weak fun actress and the adult head on child body was funny for me. It was also nice to get reminded that sandy was a marine biologists since i forgot thats why she was in bakini botum.
My personal problem with the movie was how they portrayed Texas especially Galveston the movie felt like that Sandy and SpongeBob were in Arizona with all the deserts and cactuses everywhere . As someone who actually lives in Texas, It didn’t feel like they were actually in texas yet alone, Galveston I’ve been to Galveston too many times to count and it’s like beachy city area it felt like the movie was made by people who have never been to Texas let alone Galveston mostly because of the stereotypical portray of Texas
That’s true. Honestly I think they studied the wrong state for creating Texas in the film. I’m from Arizona myself and clearly if they had said that they were in Phoenix, Arizona or anywhere else in Arizona instead of Texas in the film it would have been perfect.
At least this movie will be remembered for one reason: being fully leaked on twitter even before it was announced
And then,it happend again,with plankton

Strider is basically saying "YES. Even the BAD ones. So congratulations, Hannah Montana The Movie & Chicken Little. For as awful as you are, at least you’re not stupid, which is a plus. I’d never thought I would say that, but after the Sandy Cheeks movie, I do. Huh, guess that’s why we love Disney so much, cause even in their worst films, they are never stupid, they stand out from kids movies that are actually stupid."
Perhaps we owe Songe Out of Water & Sponge on the Run an apology.
Yeah. Honestly with sponge in the run. With the whole kamp koral stuff it just feel like "well i see where we going now of the shiw and movies".
But while their are a few scenes thst felt ehh, not too shabby.
Sponge Out of Water is severely underrated and, honestly I think it's even better than the first movie primarily by the fact all the main cast got to shine even if SpongeBob and Plankton had the main focus.
Still no. Something being worse doesn't make sotr ok
Can we just admit that sponge out of water was good?
@SuperVegitoIsTheBestCharacter Sponge out of Water is good, I don't know why some fans are still being so much ignorant with their "Only seasons 1-3 and the first movie are worth it" mindset
20:23 aw, that's nice! I have AuHD & have been watching u for years! Also, I'd kinda like to see more of these solo media reviews; ur layed back & fun, so I'd enjoy it! :)
The fact this video came out the same day as the Minecraft trailer
& looks like Sandy owes SpongeBob & Patrick an apology for taking the name of Texas in vain

This was the movie for the 25 ANNIVERSARY OF ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR CARTOONS IN THE WORLD?? This movie made me feel two things: Uncomfortable and cringed out 😔
The Fact SpongeBob Was Tickling & Enjoying Feet Is Even WORSE When You Consider The Quiet On Set Documentary Was Only A Few Months Ago
Now, the Plankton movie have gotten leaked, and apperently it's, and Wendy's will be selling krabby patties, And Patrick is getting his own game.
What is going on?
Another leak.
Filling the checklist
It’s just a little thing called… THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY. I mean, seriously, I get that they milk this show a lot, but you could say the same thing about any popular cartoon. Besides, again, it’s its ANNIVERSARY, so in this case it’s actually justified.
I hope the Patrick game is like the video game version of Patrick: The game from that one episode
@@justanormalguy563 Simpsons or Family Guy anyone?
Netflix is a marketing black hole, like the Epic Games Store. Never even heard that this movie existed until now.
Animation TH-cam talked about this a ton already. But yeah, that tracks with Netflix.
The only thing I could've call "marketing" about Sandy Cheeks Movie is TH-camrs talking that an ENTIRE movie leaked.
Hopefully Cosmos Is Good.

Well, the EXTREMELY MINIMAL advertising of the movie should tell you why you never knew about it.
Shame: Sandy finally gets her big break, her origin is finally answered ... and they F@#$ it up.
Hello Strider. Thank you so much for this movie review. I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while.
I do have another video suggestion for you. For your next SpongeBob video: rank all of the SpongeBob movies (specials as well if you like) from worst to best. And for the worst ones, you can go into a deep dive of your suggestions and or opinions on how to fix them. You know? Like your video on fixing the worst episodes of many classic cartoons? I’d like to see you do the same thing for the SpongeBob Movies and or specials. I feel like it might be something fun for you to do. 😁
Sue Nahmee… is that the best pun they could do for a villain name? That’s not even trying! What next, an astronomer villain named Astra Nomére?
It’s an Aladdin The Animated Series villain name, but not as creative as something like Abis Mal.
@@jbcatz5Wait, what? What’s the name of a villain from the Aladdin Animated Series?
@@TheDMan2003 Abis Mal. Or, Abysmal. There were plenty of punny names, like an ocean based one called Saleen. Someone threatening ocean characters whose name sounds like Tsunami fits that.
@@jbcatz5 Oh, I get it. Yeah, that is pretty cheesy. Though I’d still take it over Sue Nahmee. Seriously, who came up with that? I at least had to try with the pun on ‘astronomer.’
Sounds like a racist slur against Japanese-Americans.
It should’ve been about Sandy growing up with her family, what inspired her in marine life, and at the ending is when she goes to Bikini Bottom for the first time gets attacked by that clam, and meets her little yellow sponge

I can say one simple reason why it is hated is that it seems like it is made for kids who use Tik Tok.
Tiktok drags everything down with it. -_-
I honestly think even kids on tiktok deserve better than this movie.
Feels more like DeviantArt honestly
Yeah i started diving into the whole "Kids Movies Are Fine Being Dumb and Stupid", then I watched Legends of Metru Nui again, and began identifying with Vakama's lack of self worth and doubting himself based on expectations.
Remember, this was a movie from Bionicle, a toy series with a movie length advertisement for kids.
SpongeBob sniffs fecal matter and tickles feet. Should I explain what's wrong with that...
By this point, it feels that Nickelodeon just have no idea of what to do with their IP.
at least the Plankton movie will be a palette cleanser, because from what I've heard about the leak, it's actually good
It's nice to see a review of the this movie that isn't just “ThIs Is GaRbaDgE”.
Which is the total opposite of all of that.
they should've ended either after the first or second movie honestly, or after Stephen died.
@@mandythegrimadventures8964 or after Big Birthday Blowout
Krabs, Squidward and Patrick were placed in a machine that made them able to survive out of the water. That is why they were outside Bikini Bottom in the lab.

I was a little surprised to hear that you’re on the spectrum but that also brings me a little comfort aswell since on the spectrum aswell and your videos are amazing to just sit and listen to since you sound very passionate about the topic you talk about in your videos. Keep up the good work and stay passionate with what you love 😊
1:46, I recognize him! That’s Matty Cardarople. He played as the Henchman of Indeterminate Gender in Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events! He also played as a livestreamer in Free Guy.
Thanks for the video, Strider!
i'm on the sepctrum too. loved your content for a long time.
Honestly, the fairly oddparents new wish sequel series is having a better year than spongebob’s 25th anniversary year.
The movie feels like a fever dream 💀
I agree that a sandy movie has a lot of potential and will get kids interested in Science if they put more blood sweat and tears into the project but Nickelodeon decided to suck their own thumb making this movie. But what i can give the movie credit for is that carolyn lawrence and tom kenny are killing it as usual
Imagine if blameitonjorge comes in here and says "it's horhay".
This comment actually makes me think of Gene Wilder in Young Frankenstein saying “It’s pronounced Fronkensteen.”
Congrats!! to you and Nin on getting married!
Hey, @PhantomStrder
Fun Fact: The Movie is filmed in New Mexico.
This movie is some clear-cut proof that Nickelodeon has become so drunk on *_SpongeBob_* that they've completely run out of ideas for the show.
0:01 I even think the movie poster is extremely inappropriate!
😂😂😂
First time since sixth grade (2012) that someone has mentioned Beakman to me. I remember my science teacher slapping an episode of his on before classes would startfor the day. Love to see someone else watches his shoe because no one talks about him
Big head mode was the last straw that I had to shut the movie off. 😂😂😂😂
The main reason why I didn't like this movie is because of the villain, especially the uncanny head effect! I agree Sandy deserves a better movie, but I really enjoyed the scene with the rattlesnakes!

At least sponge out of water was actually good.

@@ravene9978You should. He's a manchild who holds a grudge against animation reviewers for disliking preschool fodder.
13:57 The head effect looks like something out of the Mortal Kombat Movie from 1995.
I was mostly just fond of Sandy’s Suit Transformation!
I'll still rewatch this movie anyday before I ever watch "Sponge on the Run" again.
Same here
My biggest gripe with the movie is animation because I don't know how, but I could definitely feel a green screen effect during scenes where the characters are moving, especially flying, and the plot is just ok
This entire video Strider and I'm like, "Wanda Sykes does not age. She'll always be about 45 to me. She's been 45 for, like, 30 years now."
Honestly the villains plan of selling the Bikini Bottom citizens as merch kinda sounds like how SpongeBob has been treated in recent years.
Looks like getting a studio named Sinking Ship Entertainment became a self fulfilling prophecy for the movie. 😏
This movie was a HOT MESS, I just hope the Plankton movie coming next year is better.
Top 10 forgotten SpongeBob episodes please ❤
The worst thing about is that people would use this as an justification for harassing the staff with death threats.
