Virge of madness with the enchant spell on it, is stronger than an elemental weapon. However, you need to keep casting the spell and it wastes an ability slot. I prefer to use the elemental weapons for convenience. The damage is still decent with them.
Hi there! Quick question based on your stat planner how are you not having to take at least some level in the base vocations? Your gonna be at least LVL 6 once you get to the Inn to change to ranger?
A few months late but hope this helps clarify: If you look at the stat planner, you'll notice the column on the left only accounts for 90 levels (10-100) and the column on the right accounts for 100 levels (101-200). The planner assumes you'll be starting from level 10, these first 10 levels being basic starting vocations. You can check the difference by switching the starting vocations under the stat table and see how those first 10 levels will affect the end result.

Each vocation levels differently. If it'd your first time, just play the vocation you want and don't worry about min maxing. Min maxing isn't really important in this game. The majority of your defense and damage comes from your gear. I'd say it's 90% gear
