Thanks for covering this. Sometime ago, I actually put in a change org petition for Princess Mako and other Japanese female royals to keep their statuses regardless of whom they married because I didn't think it was fair. I tried several times to contact the media outlets but it wasn't a "big enough story" so they wouldn't run it. As a father of a daughter, I fight for her "girl power" and the girl power of other girls, or rather, women's rights because I don't want doors shut in my daughter's face when she turns into a young woman ❤

It was reported that Princess Mako said, "I want to quit the Imperial family. There is only one way -- marriage." Being a member of the Imperial family pretty much means no freedom (a)because of our awful past, (b)because they live on our tax. They are like birds in a cage.
BTW it took her several years to do that because, allegedly, her man and his mother had some financial issues to be solved. Many Japanese ppl, excluding me who was supportive of them, and the media got mad at them like crazy, especially at her man. So her father told them to "explain" and "win the understanding" of the public, or no wedding.... Sadly, they failed. The whole thing was awful. I feel sorry for them.

Look at Selena Q. She didn’t give it all up but her and Chris knew that getting married was the only way to be together and have her family accept him. He didn’t ask her to give up anything nor did she and in the end true love prevailed. Sadly we know the ending of Selena’s story is sad, but at least she got to experience true love.
Her death has always caused me pain, for many reasons.
She was brutally killed when i was having my bridal shower march 31, 1995.
My Grandma passed march 31, 2015.
I was a fan of her American music back before she was taken from us, but after i watched JLo do an excellent job of displaying Selena's Spirit, i really have loved her.
I was upset to find out that Selena could've been saved, but her dad's cult beliefs (Jehovah's "Witness") caused her to not be saved.
It has been speculated that she was worth more dead than alive, but i do not believe her dad would choose worthless money over his beloved daughter. She was his heart.

I'm not sure if Harry got stripped of his title for marrying Meghan (*mind you, Meghan was married once before and got divorced which is looked down upon for whatever strange-ass reason, IDK! 😕🤷🏽♀️🙄😒*) but its not fair that THEIR kids WON'T have titles just like William and Kate's kids DO.
I mean, out of ALL the reason why someone should be stripped of certain titles (*like rape accusations, for example. Look up prince Andrew*), falling in love and marrying a so-called "commoner" shouldn't be one of them!
@@marissa._ You're very mistaken about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's situation. They have not lost any titles besides "HRH". In fact, Harry gained the Dukedom the morning of his marriage simply because he was getting married.
As for their children not being styled "Prince and Princess", that has absolutely nothing to do with Meghan. As soon as Prince Charles ascends to the throne, their children will receive their full titles. For now, their children are still Lord and Lady.
They usually offer the man a title, like in the case of Princess Anne her first husband was offered a title but he rejected it and that is why their children don't have any title.
King Edward abdicated the throne to marry a twice divorced Wallis Simpson. It happens and I agree completely with Jeannie, in the end all that matters is love. I have seen quite a few people pass alone and its heartbreaking. I will probably be one of them too. If you find true love hold on to it because its something more rare and precious than money can buy.

It's not EXACTLY the same thing as he didn't lose any of his titles except for "HRH". Whereas this Princess lost ALL titles and now she's a commoner. He did lose a lot of privileges though. He can't even return to England because he has no security and no one is helping him to get it.

To even be forced to make a choice between loving who you want to love or be disowned or worried about losing your Royal status to me I would think is so unfortunate… but some people are so miserable in these well respected rich and prestigious families having to put up a facade that… why not take the chance to finally have a sense of normalcy and REAL genuine peace without all of that other stuff ! I mean look at Harry & Meghan and how happy they seem now compared to when they first got married
Myron I agree. Life is short so you should embrace love. Sometimes people can be miserable and feel unfulfilled in those palatial settings. I'm happy for her. The man might be a commoner to them but they have no greater hold on life than he does. They too will be dirt one day and titles and crowns cannot be taken with them.

This is how citizenship is in some countries. If your father marries someone from another nationality, all the children are eligible for nationality but if the mother marries someone from another nationality, then the children will not receive the nationality EVEN if the children were born in the country.
In my honest opinion a woman shouldn't ever give up a darn thing in the hopes of finding true love or for the sake of getting married...lord knows I didn't and I found the guy that could possibly be my true love.

There are many reasons why (supposedly) the couple did not have a ceremony or receive monetary gift. One of them being Komuro's mother was in scandal (borrowed some money but hadn't paid back) which did not help the princess and her family look good or it was not good enough for the princess' parents to permit their marriage. The couple didn't feel it was a good idea to have a lavish wedding after all that they had to deal with. Besides, they thought the time was not right to spend (taxpayers') money while citizens of Japan are financially suffered from more than two decade long sluggish economy and having such a ceremony would look tacky because of it. The current Emperor's daughter turned 20 years old which is considered being a legally adult there. As a custom, they would have (probably day-log) ceremonies with making new crowns, etc. to commemorate it but they didn't because, again, they didn't think it would be a good idea as they want to stay connected with the citizens and show their solidarities with them by avoiding lavish lifestyles. I'm not saying they are saints and don't agree that female members of royals can't ascend to the throne but these are commonly known reasons why the couple wanted to get over the whole wedding thing besides it took them for 4 years.

Not sure how to explain it but for example my people, my sisters them get married. We’re still family, but we’re no longer the family they turn to when they need help. The husband side of the family have to do that. My brothers wife’s, we’re responsible for them.

Who knew Japan had royals? The only country that acknowledges their royals is England. I think these other countries should acknowledges theirs so that the world will know of them other than when a controversy pops off.
These other countries do "acknowledge" their royals. I think bc of the shared history and language of the UK and USA, that Americans only consider the British royals.
Spain also has royals. It's just that the us only really pays attention to UK's royalty.
