Don't worry about it being JS or IS, it just means Joseph Stalin, ioseph in IS case.

@@rexiejay-3424 It is the result of a simplifiction. The cyrillic 'j' (й) and 'i' (и) is the same letter, but the j has a sign (I dont know the correct name for that modifier, its not an umlaut) over it. Even russians tend to left the sign because in their vocabulary the io and jo is pronounced the same way. The other common simplification is the 'jo' (ё) letter written by 'je' (е). Tipical example is the name of Degtyaryov (Дегтярёв), and thanks to this for a long time his name were written in the west as Degtarev. His name is a real veterinary horse, it contains a lot of russian languistic traps for those who know nothing about the language. By the way, the ё and й letters most of the time missing from russian typewriters. This is the other reason of the confusion. Tipically nobody bothered him/herself to correct the typos, not even in official documents.

on some tanks the barrel would move back into the turret. you should do some BIG scratches on the linkage of a Turret and a barrel.

Nice build Andy :) I've done the same IS-2 and I must say it was fun to build at first I used the rubber tracks but then I thought let me try out the track links but then I thought to my self why don't I give the tank its natural sag whilst being able to move so I used the heavy wired linked tracks. Did 432 with the Bear and Star insignia and hand painted the white stripes then dusted up the crew and tank and made a flag for them to wave out of toothpicks and a tissue lol dusted it up with a charcoal black chalk for soot and dust and used a rust toned chalk to rust up my tracks, yours seemed to look better than mine keep up the good work

I like the idea of having plastic tracks for the experience and serious builders and the rubber tracks for the beginner and people who just want build the tank all in one kit like this one. That's why i love Tamiya its can be challenging on some models but fun and enjoyable.

I have to keep telling people the same thing about certain tanks....Ceramic coated reactive armor plates and titanium do not rust....its impossible, You might as well rust tires on an F1 model. certain materials don't rust because they contain no iron.

Excellent build 👍 Do you use some kind of retarder with the Tamiya paints for the sponge chipping? I've sprayed a T-34 with Tamiya paints but when I tried to do the sponge chipping with a lighter mix the Tamiya paint had dried on my palette and sponge before I could do more than a couple of dabs.

  • @Anlushac11
    @Anlushac11 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I have been looking at buying a IS kit and was surprised how hard it is to find a early IS-2 with the stepped front hull. There is a resin conversion kit and apparently Dragon made a IS-1 and early IS-2
Stalin was called Joseph or Uncle Joe in western media so the Stalin tanks were called JS-1 or 2 by the west. The actual spelling was Iosef so in Soviet union it was called the IS-1 or 2. I guess it depends on if you live in western culture or eastern europe culture whether you call it JS or IS.

If i’m not mistaken the Americans often like to call the JS tanks IS for whatever reason. It means the same thing though, “Joseph/Iosif” stalin so it really doesn’t matter.
I find it strange that people would use the russian name Iosif instead of the western name Joseph when the russian name for the JS tanks are ИС...

so once you're finished with the paint job, you put a coat of ts-80 to seal it. Then why put another coat of paint on it? I thought you're supposed to put the weathering and decals on a model that's been sealed? I'm still learning.

That is one hell of a filthy tank. Personally I think all that weathering ect. is a bit much. Whenever we had down time and near a water source, like a stream or pond I'd have the men drive it in and do some washing. A clean tank is a happy tank and commander.

If possible I would like to ask if you could make a guide for modern armored cars and their clear parts for lights, etc. I cannot seem to find a good guide on how to paint the clear parts and especially when. Should I paint them last and glue them on last or should I paint while building and mask them off? Which colors should I use and which colors will make a glass kind of look? I really hope you could help out with this as many modelers do old tanks instead of modern armored cars.

The dispute for the JS or IS dedication on any tank ist due to the difrent pronoucings of the name Joseph Stalin.

    Ijoseph Stalin = IS
Im not sure which is the original russian but i belive it was the JS designation.

I got a few Vallejo pigments the other week and one was titanium white pigment powder I wasn't to sure of it but bought it just to have so tried it out on my practice Sherman and waw! It's great for adding highlights and using for woren through pain streaks etc and it's really good for an ash look if you wanted to do a burnt out tank which iv never seen in a diarama yet so I'm thinking along the way of a burn out Sherman since it's just a practice model it'll still come in useful

Hello Andy. I have been watching your videos for a long time. And i've never thought to ask this question of you before. I can see part of your store. How much more is there in your store for the customer to look at. Or is what it shows in your video it as far as your store goes. I am just curious about that. One more thanks, sir.Would you please email me your address of your store for ordering. So I can do soom ordering from you. I do like all the 1/16th. Scale model kits that you have put out. But I have been doing my diaramas all in 1/35 scale. All of my building molds are in 1/35th scale. All of the wood I have is too small to make things into 1/16th scale. So I am going to continue ordering 1/35th scale items. Looking at your videos, it seems you have a large variety of them. Where I live at they don't even store that kind of a model anymore. Nobody has armor anymore. By the way, I live in middle Tennessee. So if you would sir could you answer me about the size of your store and send me the address so I can see what you have for sale.
    Thank you very much.

Its the 1944 variant cause of the sloping front plate, the JS-2 standard type is the same as the JS-152 which you've built for us, Great work as always, Personally I would of used the fruilmodel tracks since they're easier to rust/weather.
