I admire Tamiya keeping these older kits on the market as cheaper alternatives. They still build up well and respond well to a little aftermarket detailing.
Got mine the other day. Nobody mentions just opening the kit and just looking at all the parts...dreams of a new build...we used to call it "grokking" I'm 63 lol...but I have been building kits since I was 4 mom or dad would build in front of me, then with me, then turned me loose. The tamiya box art is always worth some grins also...
I do love these older Tamiya kits, they're a fantastic introduction for new comers to the hobby and they're prime candidates for covering with aftermarket bits :)
I built that kit in the late 70s when I was in elementary school. I like the fact that they are releasing these kits again at a reasonable price. I always think about redemption builds. ie skills then compared to skills now. Greetings from Tennessee,USA
Redemption build! I love that as a concept. I’ve recently found my old Dungeons and dragons lead figures. I recall them being painted so masterfully and now I look at them they are horrible. Was planning to repaint one for my redemption of sorts. Thanks for connecting! Luck 🍀
That's too funny! I also try to build again now the botched jobs i did as a kid. Kinda makes me think the past has now been corrected and I don't need to feel guilty anymore......
Hello From Detroit, Ditto on “redemption build”! Both Hilarious and Very True- I was 13 when this kit came out- a kid with a News Paper Route (The Detroit News, route #54- still remember) have me ample pocket change- and in the U.S.A. Most towns and cities of all sizes had Hobby Stores we could ride a bike to- the Tamiya Kits then, were the Gold Standard (mainly still are). Tamiya was “pricy” compared to Airfix & Monogram- our tools & Glues were NOTHING like 21st century products… Testors Tube cement left a lot to be desired, heck I think we used NAIL CLIPPERS for “sprue cutters”. The Tamiya kits had a lot of “fiddly” parts for a ham handed kid. Built a few of their motorized tanks, but that was it. All Monogram, AMT (made in Michigan) and Revell. Now- we have more than a Plethora of tools, Paints, specialized sanding sticks, AIRBRUSHES (!) etc. during the pandemic, after a near 50-year absence from the hobby- I jumped back in. Four years now and still loving it. TH-cam has been a fabulous tutorial platform- THIS channel I just found- yesterday- while in the process of finishing a vintage 1976 M16 GMC- amazed that prior to having this superb channel/tutorial “pop up” on my algorithm- that I could find NO full builds of this vintage kit- a damned popular one to this day. Always a help in seeing others build/work the kit you plan to build prior to building it. Cheers to All and thank you.
Greetings from Artur in Mozambique 🇲🇿I'm a new modeller... 48 years young. I'd obviously love to win the model... Only one model shop here in Mozambique, with limited stock... We've registered a club. Small group, but we are on the lookout for new enthusiasts. Thank you for your work.🙏✨🫡🇲🇿
Greetings from the Netherlands. I'm from the matchbox/humbrol generation and restarted the hobby two years ago. A lot has changed since then like the availability of this kind of great video's. Thank you for sharing your work and effort 👍
Hi there! There has never been a better time to get back into this great hobby of ours. Thank you for connecting and I hope you enjoy the other videos 😎🍀🙏
I built this when it was first released (benefits of having a brother working in a model shop ). I pre-ordered it as soon as they announced it's re-release. At nearly a third of the price compared to other manufacturers it was a no brainer. I enjoyed building it then and enjoyed my nostalgia build. Cheers from Blighty.
Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧. I’m enjoying building the vintage Tamiya armour kits to get into armour modelling. Loving learning all the weathering techniques.
Greetings from 'Straylia 🇦🇺. Nice treatment of a classic kit.! My favourite version of the US half-track platform is the M3 GMC which Tamiya did not produce a version of. The Dragon version of this kit is also a bit of a nightmare, due to the incredibly thin and weak parts forming the driveline and suspension. I suspect if it was easier we wouldn't be so enamoured with this past-time.
As someone who has been building scale models for over 56 years , I have to say the details and fit models that have gotten much better. although there are some kits depicting certain weapons that you can't find easily, like a Sdkfz 7 troop carrier pulling a flack 36/ 37 flack cannon. Tamiya used to have the series, but to but discontinued both the sdkfz and the flack 36 /37 cannon line, I used to have the entire 7/1 ,7 / 2. 7/3 series along with the 20mm cannon ,being pulled by the Horch . Just as the flack crews, there were three types spread out from the kits ""a Africa. Corps Tropical, standard and eastern front, heavy winter. I sadly found out that a lot of the kits that I had gotten over the years were no longer available , SInce I had to file an insurance claim, Police report for the Arson at my house,It is true some of the kits had there silly motorized lower hulls to put a electric motor and gearbox to make it a hybrid between a scale model and a kids toy.. I would love to see some of thease discontinued kits reissued in a series together . Such Z Tamiya used to release a themed kit package .I wish they would do a series like a Horch , a hooch with the anti tankgun, and the single 20mm flack gun . Or do a Sdkfz 7/1 ,2,3 series with the three models. To me, it was much easier , faster time wise to pre paint ,and weather a whole bunch of the same sprue assembly versus each kit separately. Also, to me, sometimes a model that has so so details is a good candidate for a scratch build start point . How many models of an armored 7 series V2 launch vehicles do you know of ?????
Firstly, sorry to hear about your home mate and the loss of your belongings, I can't imagine how devastating that would be. I would not be surprised given how popular this recent batch of re releases has been, if we would see Tamiya re releasing more of these old moulds. I am sure they would be very popular! Not sure on your 7 Series question, best to check out scalemates.com. Thank you for connecting 🙏
Greetings from Canada! I just found your channel and look forward to your videos. Covid got me back into the hobby after 50 years or so of an absence. This exact model is on my list so I appreciate your comments. Take care
Thank you Clayton for this wonderful trip down amnesia lane. I personally have never build this kit, but I vividly recall sitting at the kitchen table (late 70's) watching my father build this kit and thus my modelling addiction was started. It is good to see Tamiya digging into the ancient kit mould stash and re-releasing the models that got some/most or all of us into the hobby. Looking forward to part two.
Greetings from Stockholm, Sweden... I remember making my F-14 Tomcat in 1985, when I loved in Hong Kong, so much more details from the look halftrack M16, but enjoyed it so much!
Modelling is such an amazing hobby and so many people have fond memories of their childhood. Appreciate you saying gday and joining in with the channel 🍀🍺🙏
Greetings from south africa 🇿🇦 love your episode i have been building models since 1974 so i appreciate your retake on those lovely old models keep up the good work!
It's probably an older kit, but it also has its charm. With appropriate fine work, a beautiful model is possible, as your result shows. Excellent job with this model, Clayton. I wish you a nice weekend and further a good time. Greetings, Joachim
Greetings from the United States. I never had the opportunity to build one of these when they were new, but it still looks like a fun kit (especially at its price point) for someone like myself just starting in armor modelling. I appreciate how much information you manage to pack in while keeping the video moving right along.
Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧. loving the videos, especially vintage tamiya, anyone of that certain age will appreciate these kits with such atmospheric box art taking us back to a simpler time, keep up the great work, most enjoyable 👍
Greetings from Canada. Nice build! I think with a bit of sanding and scraping, that overscale armour could be thinned down a bit. Gluing the tracks flat across the top of the drive sprocket and idler would help the appearance also. The kit really seems to hold up well after close to 50 years.
Hey 👋 welcome to the channel. Thinning the armour down would be almost impossible without then doing some scratch building. The tracks are only loosely fitted here. All comes together in the next video. Appreciate your comments 🙏🍀
I built this kit when I was kid. It was a birthday gift for turning 11 in 1977. Great memories, if i remember correctly I also built a hedge hog Sherman and a rocket launch Sherman around the same time Thank you for reviving some Great Memories 🇺🇲
Greetings from Australia! This is certainly a better kit than the two '90s-era resin truck builds I've just finished. No warped parts, relatively decent fit, and a lot less clean-up all round! Oh, and congrats on discovering the SMS ceramic scraper - great tool, and much better than a #11 blade at its job.
Thanks from Detroit, USA- I was wondering what that ceramic scraper was- now I have a name- I hadn’t seen one before- seemed to perform much better than a #11 I used on same model last week- Cheers-
Back in the day, I built all 3 variants, nice kits for the time, and some good figures. Tamiya was one of my favorite manufacturers back then. Greetings from the USA!
Greetings from the United States of America🇺🇲. When I was 9 years old I actually built this kit. I never cleaned parts or painted, i just assembled them as toys. , I loved history and model kits were the only historical "toys" I could find. Now I'm 54 years old and rediscovering scale modeling. I've built a few 1/72 airplanes and now I'm working on the old Tamiya Pzkw II Ausf F as my first attempt at a 1/35 armor kit. I'm planning to revisit my childhood with this vintage kit next! Great videos and thanks for showing what is possible with these older molds.
That old panzer 2 is a great kit. And welcome back to the hobby! Building those kits as a kid not obsessing with seam lines and gaps really were great times weren’t they? Really appreciate you connecting here on the channel. Good luck with the m16! 🍀🍺🙏
Greetings from Colorado USA. Thanks for this out of the box build and standing by it! I built this kit when it was new and I was quite young. Glad to know it`s back in the market. While modern kits are much better engineered, I too am drawn back to building the kits of my youth. Love your skills. And yes, Tamiya knows their target market!
Hi Michael. They most certainly do don’t they! And thanks for acknowledging the out of box commitment. These kits bring back such great memories don’t they? Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙏
I built all versions of this kit in the late 70s early 80s and as a school kid I loved them. Would I still love them now as I did then, its hard to say because I would be looking at them with modern eyes and its easy to be critical of old stuff. But its funny how retro this and retro that has also become fashionable.
Phoenix, Arizona USA….I built this kit in the late 70s, and it was great to see you take it to a whole new level while managing to reign in your talent! Amazing build!
I remember building that kit when my local hobby shop got it in , was very enjoyable. Tough to not use any extras these days , still looks like it builds nice.
As a young "glue bomber" in the late 1970's I built a number of Tamiya's armour offerings including this very one. Now I primarily build class 8 trucks (the big rig kits) which were another favourite modelling subject for me back then. Much of what is one the market now is the same kits from way back although in some cases there has been some clean up of the original tooling when reissued. Clean up of ejector pin marks (sometimes in really inconvenient locations such as on the diamond tread side of part instead of the not visible when assembled opposite side!), seams and parting lines are familiar tasks with these older kits, which as you mentioned are a reflection of a different era in model kits. For me, I am happy to see kits like these available again without having to pay collector prices. Same with the Round 2 releases of those truck kits I remember which, for a time especially with the rarer ones, were priced at ridiculous collector levels that effectively discouraged actually opening up a sealed kit and building it.
Hi there. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. There is something about building a truck that excites me. I have the old Mack truck from Convoy in the stash…the rubber duck 🦆. That’s one of those legacy builds for me. I ‘gluebombed’ that as a kid 😛
Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺. When I heard Tamiya where Re-releasing these halftrack kits, I went straight to my hobby store an put my order in, he must have realized the value of these kits to use aging modeler… he had 4 or each offering, and they are all gone. Luckily I have all 3 variants in my stash now, and can’t wait for your next episode… awesome build. Thanks
Thanks so much. I can’t wait to bring it to you all! It’s great news for the hobby in general to see the popularity of these kits. Thanks for contributing 🍀
I have been waiting for Tamiya to re-release this kit for more than 10 years. Your video is wonderful for me to get prepare to build it. Thanks. Greetings from San Jose, California. 🇺🇸
So pleased to hear you enjoyed the video. Hopefully it helps with your own build. I can’t wait to bring the next episode to you! That’s when it goes from looking like a toy to a weathered warrior! Thanks for connecting 🍀🙏
Greetings from Scotland 🏴Recently returned to the hobby after a 48 year break, really enjoyed this build video of how to build this old kit with current skills, tools and techniques.
Hi David, thank you so much for joining in and more importantly, welcome back to the best hobby in the world, after a long 48 year break!!! I hope you enjoy the next part of the series too 🥳👍🏻🍀
Greetings from Australia 🏳. I was an avid scale modeller as a secondary school student in the 1970's. Unfortunately when I started work I could not find the time to continue the hobby. I am now retired after over 40 years working and looking forward to getting back into the scale modelling scene again. I actually built the Tamiya M21 81mm Mortar Carrier half-track way back then and it still sits in my display case after 4 decades.
😆 Fritz the Cat! That takes me back 😆 love that name I love the painting in the miniature world too. So many crossovers. Appreciate you joining the conversation and being part of the channel 🍺🙏
Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺 I too have started "redemption builds" during and after COVID and im having a ball building them! My older brother got the Tamiya 88mm flak gun kit for Christmas one year and was so so jealous of him. It was the first kit i bought during the pandemic. Tell you what, when building 1/72 kits my fingers seem so big and puddgy now😂 Thanks for your video, i enjoyed it immensely 👍👍
Yup! You nailed it there. We are so often crippled with concerns around accuracy now aren’t we. They were simpler times for sure. Thanks for connecting 🙏🍺💪
Love Tamiya's models . Made this one years ago and still stands up as a fine model . ln fact Tamiya in my opinion were and are the best model manufacturer as you always know their kits will be a pleasure to assemble unlike others that are over engineered and complicated for the sake of it ( six parts where two would do ) .
I built a lot of those Tamiya kits when they came out. I for one am glad Tamiya is re-releasing them. Gives me a chance to build the kit again. I still watch old movies and TV shows, so why not build these old kits again.
Thanks for sharing ! bought all the versions from hobbylink Japan the moment they were (re) released.. yes they require some work but only cost a third to the Dragon offerings... 😊 Very little flash.. means the molds stood the test of time 👍🏻
Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱 And thanks for revisiting an old kit! I'm just getting back to the hobby after over the decades, taking apart, stripping paint and rebuilding some of my old models before I play with all the latest and greatest tech like photo etched and resin printed elements.
I think it is cool to release some older kits like this. Great to see how things were once, snd also if things are just put together without any work, and no challenge. Well, where is the fun in that.
Greetings from NorCal USA. I had two out of the three half-tracks growing up, the M16 Quad 50 Gun Carriage, and the M32A2 Personnel Half-Track variant. I loved both of them, loaded the personnel carrier with figures from their 8 man infantry set. Glad to see they re-released it.
Thank you for the build review...Love this old school stuff and the prices are right. Some companies, Revell comes to mind, would take these old molds and triple the price. Tamiya has made their money on these 100x over, as have the others, so I, like most of us, really appreciate them releasing these once again. Certainly we will see more of these Tamiya classics in the near future 🇺🇸
Good day from central Illinois, US. Model builder since the 60’s. Exc. video and honest evaluation of kit. I’ve built tamiya kits for sometime in 1/12, 1/35, & 1/20. This kit sure seems like it has more seam lines than I’m used to seeing. Thanks for bringing us along on the build.
greetings from California USA!, I actually only recently got into model building with Warhammer figures and soon remembered these military vehicles and space shuttles my dad would make when I was a kid and just making models in general has been so much fun seeing a spru board go from plastic parts to a replica of something always makes me smile now i know why my dad would make these!
That’s so awesome. Great memories huh?! So many crossovers with modelling and warhammer. Makes me wonder why those two communities don’t pull together to promote the hobby a little more. Really appreciate you joining in 🙏💪🍺🍀
Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 I built this kit many moons ago. Your video brought back memories. You did a great job on the kit, and it looks great straight from the box.
Hello from Washington State in the USA. Frankly, I'm still a fan of old Tamiya kits. To me they're fun to build, detailed enough, and don't cost an arm and leg. I'm still building some of the oldies but goodies.
Greetings from Ohio! Glad I found your channel. I like your approach on this model. As a new modeler (a little over a year and about 5 models) my approach mirrors yours. You are obviously very talented, but the “out of the box” approach is great for the beginner. Your management of time vs reward on certain areas was very helpful, thank you for verbalizing your thought process on that. Also, the way you visually present your process makes me feel like “I can do that!”
As a child in the 70s. I made this model. I think in those times, and as children such models encouraged us to reasurch, abd taught us some basic mechanical skills. Making something "more real" generially meant drybrushing, adding tarps made from sheets of toilet paper, roots cleaned and painted into tree sections, grabbing jewelry chains for truck tire chains. Etc. In the end such models in play were further "modified" with "combat damage" made with heated wire, and actuial fireworks, smoke bombs, etc. This play certainly encouraged learning historical facts, but also showed that these real vehicles were disposable. Something I always note when looking at so many "restored" wwii jeeps today in parades. This model, not quite a 'cash grab', but more of a test of skills for the "more mature" modelers.
Hi Clayton Like a lot of people worldwide I’ve built the whole range of Tamiya’s old Halftracks. Bit scary when you compare them to Dragon’s beautiful range but okay for novice modellers. Those rubber band tracks are a shocker 😂 but FC Model trend do a complete resin upgrade set. I’ve seen some fantastic scratch built plastic tracks but man it’s a lot of work. Great piece of work though mate, looks great! Cheers from the West coast in Perth 😊
Hey Michael. Thanks for tuning in. The tracks came together in the next part of the build. I found supergluing the joint really helped take the slack up in them. But yeah, not great but not a dealbreaker. Of course the Dragon kit runs rings around this, but this was all about giving us the chance to relive our childhoods. Thanks again for connecting 🙏🍺💪
@@workbenchhobbies4316 I’ve been trying to get back to watch your video for days lol I reckon that they’re still a nice build, for a kit that is so old, but not as old as me though, helps sharpen up your detaining skills hahahaha Looking forward to watching your next stage old mate!
Hi Clayton! Great job on the M16 my friend as usual. A lot of YT modellers bag the older Tamiya kits as not being worth the effort to build them, and while they may not live up to modern standards and design technology, I still think they have their place in our hobby. Yes they may be a little unrefined, and they do offer some challenges compared to their more recent kits, but I find them a joy to build, as they drag my memory back to when I was a teenager building models with my Dad. I have only returned to the hobby in the last couple of years after a break (of too many years to mention), and my first attempts building armour models was with older Tamiya kits just like this one. I actually still have some kits of this vintage in my stash, and I intend to build them soon. A great subject Clayton, and as usual, clearly showing build techniques you used. Greetings mate from Australia 🇦🇺 (of course)!
Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦! I remember when I first saw this kit in the 80's... I had just started on the hobby. Verlinden models were on vogue and I did my best to replicate his techniques on my build. I loved building it!
Depending upon the version, my local hobby shop (Michigan USA) sells these kits for between $19 and $22 - definitely not a cash grab. Thank you for an excellent video!
I still have the one I built as a kid sitting on my shelf. It's important to note that while there were seamlines and ejector pin sink marks, nothing else made by other manufacturers compared in terms of detail and quality. Tamiya kits were simply the pinnacle and I would gobble up anything Tamiya I could get my hands on.
Yeah. Agree. The seam lines and marks are just a reminder that we are dealing with a 50yo kit and that was a result of the limitations of the day. Great to hear you have your old one still! Wish I knew where all my childhood models ended up 🧐 Appreciate you sharing your thoughts 💪🙏
Greetings from Australia. I’ve never built the Tamiya American Halftracks as they just weren’t around when I got into the hobby. You really made this old kit shine and I to enjoy building an older kit sometimes just to see if I can make it look to its full potential with the skills I’ve learned.
For sure! These oldies go together quickly and give us a great platform to use painting and weathering techniques to get them to shine! Thanks for joining in my friend 🍀
Great video. In my youth I truly enjoyed the Tamiya scale models especialy those that were motorized. I would be wonderful to get back to building. Keep up the great work. -Phil , Seattle Washington. U.S.A
Hi Phil! They were a heap of fun weren't they? I'd encourage you to try the hobby again. It has come so far and it has given me so much joy participating as an adult. Thanks for joining in 🤗
Thank you! It still looks a little toy like in this video, just wait until the next one and you will be blown away at how good they can look with just a few simple techniques! Thank you for joining in 👍🏻
Greetings 😀 I think it’s about time you gave it a try again!? It’s such a satisfying and rewarding hobby. Appreciate you taking the time to connect 🙏🍺🍀💪
Greetings from New Zealand 🇳🇿 loved the video bro! Real new to the whole modeling thing but so far from the community is so welcoming and friendly and I love it!
Another fantastic video Clayton. I was on the fence about the kit, worrying that it might be too long in the tooth, but you showed us otherwise! Thanks again from Martin, originally from 🇬🇧 but living in 🇺🇸
Hey Martin. Great to see you again mate. It’s clearly an old kit, but still a lot of fun…especially given the price point. Thanks for connecting mate 🙏💪
Just found your site, Arizona, 🇺🇸...nice to see good skills applied to older kits, especially staring 70 in the face. Tamiya is still, for me, the best bang for the buck.... thanks for the reminder.
Greetings from Norway.I had the other halftracks when i was a kid in the good old seventies, this was a great kit for it`s time and this really took me back to my childhood.I still build models and i love the hobby. Thanks for all the great videos.
I haven't built a model in over 20+ years but kept on reading the modeling magazines, watching videos and have some tank models in the closet for that "one day" I may return to it. Loved this video. Coming to you from Atlanta, GA USA
Greetings from the England/ UK. I enjoy seeing these vintage releases. Good to see how far the industry has progressed. This hobby is my retirement anti aging activity. 👌
I admire Tamiya keeping these older kits on the market as cheaper alternatives. They still build up well and respond well to a little aftermarket detailing.
For sure. It’s great people are responding and buying them. Hopefully it inspires other manufacturers to join in and price the accordingly. 💪🙏
Fantastic memories 🎉 Nothing like opening the box lid for the first time is there 🙏
I do love these older Tamiya kits, they're a fantastic introduction for new comers to the hobby and they're prime candidates for covering with aftermarket bits :)
Absolutely! You can do as little or as much as you like right!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts 💭 🍺💪🙏

My dad had that first version you showed remember the box sitting there for years in his model building area even after he built it.
Nice! Hopefully it gave you a nice little reminder into your past. Thanks for sharing that memory 🙏✅🍀
Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧. I’m enjoying building the vintage Tamiya armour kits to get into armour modelling. Loving learning all the weathering techniques.
Great news. For me, most of the joy in the hobby comes from the weathering, so I feel you are on the right path! Thank you for joining in 🍀

I would not be surprised given how popular this recent batch of re releases has been, if we would see Tamiya re releasing more of these old moulds. I am sure they would be very popular! Not sure on your 7 Series question, best to check out scalemates.com. Thank you for connecting 🙏
Greetings from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪. I remember building that kit back in the late 70's.
Hey Alan, such great memories aren't they! Thanks for connecting 🙏
Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧 but I'm Polish 🇵🇱 Thank you for the content, the chipping was good to see.
Thanks for watching. It’s truly appreciated 🙏 Good luck 🤞
Greetings from Canada! I just found your channel and look forward to your videos. Covid got me back into the hobby after 50 years or so of an absence. This exact model is on my list so I appreciate your comments. Take care
Welcome back to the hobby! At least something positive came out of that time! 🍀
Very good job 👏 👍
Thank you very much 🙏
Thank you Clayton for this wonderful trip down amnesia lane.
Thank you for sharing with me your introduction to this great hobby of ours! Beautiful memories. Thank you for being a part of this community.
Greeting from the UK 🇬🇧 excellent advice and finish.
Greetings Jay. Thanks for connecting 🦘🍀
@@workbenchhobbies4316 welcome, thank you
Greetings from Denver, CO, USA 🏴 I have always loved half-tracks ever since watching Kelly's Heroes when I was a kid!
They are cool aren’t they?! Versatile machines that played a vital role in the war effort. Thanks for joining in ☝️🤞
Greetings from Stockholm, Sweden...
🇿🇦 ! Greetings 😎 so pleased you are enjoying the content. Thanks for being part of this community 🙏😎🍀
Built this model 30 yrs ago and it is still here I'm looking at it in my vast collection.
Hey David. You’re not alone there. Thanks for sharing your experience 🙏🙂
It's probably an older kit, but it also has its charm. With appropriate fine work, a beautiful model is possible, as your result shows.
Excellent job with this model, Clayton. I wish you a nice weekend and further a good time.
Greetings, Joachim
Thanks Joachim. Appreciate you being part of this community
Greetings from the United States. I never had the opportunity to build one of these when they were new, but it still looks like a fun kit (especially at its price point) for someone like myself just starting in armor modelling. I appreciate how much information you manage to pack in while keeping the video moving right along.
Thanks Benjamin. I try to keep the pace up with these presentations, so that really encouraging to hear your thoughts. Thanks for connecting 🙏💪😎
I built that kit in the 70's as a kid. I loved it! I think it is great that they chose to release these kits again!
Tamiya really did come to the party didn’t they?! Question is what kit should you like to see next ? 🤔
Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧. loving the videos, especially vintage tamiya, anyone of that certain age will appreciate these kits with such atmospheric box art taking us back to a simpler time, keep up the great work, most enjoyable 👍
Hi Jamie, many thanks for your comments and for connecting. They sure do take us back don't they! 😁🥳🫡
My pleasure Keith. So many great memories 🙏 Good luck 🤞
Thanks from Detroit, USA- I was wondering what that ceramic scraper was- now I have a name- I hadn’t seen one before- seemed to perform much better than a #11 I used on same model last week- Cheers-
Greetings 🇦🇺 The ceramic scraper is a beauty isn’t it 🤩 Good luck with the draw 🙏🍀🍻

Greetings to you! Great memories aren't they!? The good ol days 😎
Back in the day, I built all 3 variants, nice kits for the time, and some good figures. Tamiya was one of my favorite manufacturers back then. Greetings from the USA!
Greetings! Pretty hard to dislike a Tamiya kit isn’t it? Thanks for taking the time to connect. Good luck 🍀🙏☝️
Hello!! Tyler from New Jersey, USA here 🇺🇲 Who doesn't like some cool, classic US military hardware?! Very cool model!
Hello Tyler. Welcome aboard. Thanks for joining in the fun 🍀🍺💪🙏
Greeting from Singapore. Remember this kit when I was 10 years old... a gift from my recently pass away mom.
I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. Hopefully this brought back some treasured memories for you. Thanks for sharing your story 🙏🫶🏻
I think kits like this are perfect for beginners, you get a taste of everything a modeler goes through; the good and the bad .
Hey Zach. You make a good point. It’s far from perfect but easy enough for the beginner…but lessons to be learned along the way. Love it! 👍😁
Greetings from Missouri, USA.
I remember building these half tracks in my youth!
Greetings to you! Great memories aren't they 🥳
Greetings from Canada ! I built this kit unsuccessful during a summer school break many many moons ago.
Ahhh Michael, time for another go I would say!!! Good luck to you 🍀
Greetings from Colorado USA.
Greeting from California USA 🇺🇸
I think this model has really stood the test of time.
Greetings to you Dan! Thank you for connecting and welcome 🥳
Greetings from Oklahoma, USA 🇺🇸
The half tracks and the old Sherman were some of my favorite models as a child
Hi and thank you for you connecting. Great memories aren't they! 🥳
I built all versions of this kit in the late 70s early 80s and as a school kid I loved them. Would I still love them now as I did then, its hard to say because I would be looking at them with modern eyes and its easy to be critical of old stuff. But its funny how retro this and retro that has also become fashionable.
Everything old is new again hey. It’s a great reminder of simpler times. Thanks for sharing 🙏💪
Phoenix, Arizona USA….I built this kit in the late 70s, and it was great to see you take it to a whole new level while managing to reign in your talent! Amazing build!
Hi and thank you for your kind words and for connecting. I hope you took a trip down memory lane 🥳
Built one of these about 5yrs ago. Had a great time building it. No muss no fuss. Allowed me to dive into detail weathering.
Nice! That was the angle I took with it as well…it was all about the weathering. Hope you enjoyed the vid ☝️💪
Greetings from California, USA. I enjoyed this walk down memory lane. Your work is fantastic.
Thank you so much for your kind words William and for reaching out. Such great memories aren't they!
I remember building that kit when my local hobby shop got it in , was very enjoyable. Tough to not use any extras these days , still looks like it builds nice.
Greetings! I found it very difficult to not add anything to it. But held my ground and was pretty happy with the results!
The quad fifty on the half track was one of my favorite kits years ago. The mount and guns moved about just fine.
It’s a pretty sweet machine isn’t it! Thanks for your comments 🙏💪
I remember building this one many, many years ago... I'll confess to being very tempted to give it another go.
It brought back a lot of great memories for me. You should give it a go. I’m sure you’ll love it 💪🙏
I have been waiting for Tamiya to re-release this kit for more than 10 years.

Wow after 37 years I may finally get one of these. Life is good.
Good stuff Steven! Life is good - greatest hobby in the world 🥳
Greetings from Scotland 🏴Recently returned to the hobby after a 48 year break, really enjoyed this build video of how to build this old kit with current skills, tools and techniques.
So glad to hear you have found your way back to this incredible hobby and appreciate you connecting with me 🍀
greetings from canada. I'm more a miniature wargamer, but I really enjoy watching the tricks and techniques of scale modelers
😆 Fritz the Cat! That takes me back 😆 love that name
I love the painting in the miniature world too.
Ah yes! That 88 was epic wasn’t it! With the full crew! I’d be jealous too 😆 Thanks for connecting. It’s appreciated 🙏🍀
So many memories! Fun kits, easy builds for a kid, some figures, and reasonable price. (And no Internet to point out all the kit mistakes?!?)
Yup! You nailed it there. We are so often crippled with concerns around accuracy now aren’t we. They were simpler times for sure. Thanks for connecting 🙏🍺💪
Greeting from the UK. I made a huge effort to acquire this kit last year, loved it when my mate Neil built it in 1977 (I was 12),
You might give Neil a run for his money - you never know! Good memories aren't they! Good luck and thank you for joining in 🍀
Lol I love how much focus he gives the ceramic scraper while we can see the bandaid
I can’t be trusted with sharps! 😉😆
Yes, you always know what you are going to get with a Tamiya kit! Thank you for connecting 👍🏻
I built a lot of those Tamiya kits when they came out. I for one am glad Tamiya is re-releasing them. Gives me a chance to build the kit again. I still watch old movies and TV shows, so why not build these old kits again.
So many awesome memories hey. And that opportunity to revisit them came as a nice surprise didnt it. Thanks for connecting 🙏💪🍺
Thanks for sharing ! bought all the versions from hobbylink Japan the moment they were (re) released..
yes they require some work but only cost a third to the Dragon offerings...
😊 Very little flash..
means the molds stood the test of time 👍🏻
Sounds like you’ve got some work to do! 😆
Greetings from Canada, I remember this kit when I was much younger great to see it back.
I’m sure you’re not alone. These rereleases are proving to be very popular 🍀
Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱
And thanks for revisiting an old kit! I'm just getting back to the hobby after over the decades, taking apart, stripping paint and rebuilding some of my old models before I play with all the latest and greatest tech like photo etched and resin printed elements.
Another modeller finding their way home. Welcome back 🙏 Thanks for connecting 🍀
I think it is cool to release some older kits like this. Great to see how things were once, snd also if things are just put together without any work, and no challenge. Well, where is the fun in that.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 🙏
Yeah, that personnel carrier was epic wasn’t it! Thanks for connecting 🍀🙏
Greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
Recently decided to get back into the hobby, so that is how I found this channel
My first Costa Rica 🥳 welcome and thank you for joining in! Welcome back to the greatest hobby in the world 😎
Thank you for the build review...Love this old school stuff and the prices are right. Some companies, Revell comes to mind, would take these old molds and triple the price. Tamiya has made their money on these 100x over, as have the others, so
I, like most of us, really appreciate them releasing these once again. Certainly we will see more of these Tamiya classics in the near future 🇺🇸
It would seem that way - we can only hope! Thank you for joining in to this great community of ours.
Greetings from Texas, USA I use to build models in the 70's glad to see it still continues.
The good ol' days right!! I hope you are still building now too!? Thank you for your comment 🍀
Hi Robert. Thanks for tuning in! 🙏💪😎
greetings from California USA!, I actually only recently got into model building with Warhammer figures and soon remembered these military vehicles and space shuttles my dad would make when I was a kid and just making models in general has been so much fun seeing a spru board go from plastic parts to a replica of something always makes me smile now i know why my dad would make these!
That’s so awesome. Great memories huh?! So many crossovers with modelling and warhammer. Makes me wonder why those two communities don’t pull together to promote the hobby a little more.
Really appreciate you joining in 🙏💪🍺🍀
Holy carp! I owned and made this model back in the late 70s. I believe it was the first half-decent build I ever completed!
Hi there!! Memory lane 😄 glad to hear you had success 😎
Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
I built this kit many moons ago. Your video brought back memories. You did a great job on the kit, and it looks great straight from the box.
Hi there and thank you for your kind comment. It was a fun trip down memory lane for sure. Glad it brought back some memories for you too 🤝
Hello from Washington State in the USA. Frankly, I'm still a fan of old Tamiya kits. To me they're fun to build, detailed enough, and don't cost an arm and leg. I'm still building some of the oldies but goodies.
It’s all about finding joy in the hobby isn’t it! Tamiya deliver in spades!
Thanks for connecting 🙏🍺😎
Greetings from Ohio! Glad I found your channel. I like your approach on this model. As a new modeler (a little over a year and about 5 models) my approach mirrors yours. You are obviously very talented, but the “out of the box” approach is great for the beginner. Your management of time vs reward on certain areas was very helpful, thank you for verbalizing your thought process on that. Also, the way you visually present your process makes me feel like “I can do that!”
That’s so pleasing to hear. I’m glad you feel some of these techniques are achievable. That was always my goal. Thanks so much for connecting 🙏🍀
We have all modified our models with fireworks 😉 some of the fondest memories of my childhood. Thank you so much for sharing your story.
Greetings from Pennsylvania, United States🇺🇸. I recently got this reissue. For its age,it’s actually in decent shape. Nothing that can’t be fixed.
Greetings 😎 It’s definitely a bit of fun and surprisingly relevant for its age for sure. Thanks for connecting 🙏🫡😎
Hi Clayton
Like a lot of people worldwide I’ve built the whole range of Tamiya’s old Halftracks.
@@workbenchhobbies4316 I’ve been trying to get back to watch your video for days lol
I reckon that they’re still a nice build, for a kit that is so old, but not as old as me though, helps sharpen up your detaining skills hahahaha
Looking forward to watching your next stage old mate!
@@michaeldean1289 THanks again for joining in Michael
Thanks for checking in Gary, always grateful to hear from you and your support. Love hearing what these old kit mean to you 😀

Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦! I remember when I first saw this kit in the 80's... I had just started on the hobby. Verlinden models were on vogue and I did my best to replicate his techniques on my build. I loved building it!
I remember the first time I saw a Verlinden set it absolutely blew my mind! Great memories weren't they! Thank you for joining in.
Depending upon the version, my local hobby shop (Michigan USA) sells these kits for between $19 and $22 - definitely not a cash grab. Thank you for an excellent video!
Definitely an attractive price point isn’t it! Thanks to you for watching! There’d be no videos without you guys 🙏💪😎
I've built all three variants (around 1990-2). REALLY loved them!
Great memories right! 🥳😎
Wish I knew where all my childhood models ended up 🧐
Appreciate you sharing your thoughts 💪🙏
Greetings from an Aussie 🇦🇺 in the USA 🇺🇸

Crisis averted 😉 thank you for joining in fellow Aussie, truly appreciated and good luck to you 🍀
Greetings from Australia.
