Hey @Blitz the reason the new river is flooding is that the water has no where to go when it reaches the end, so the water level rises. Near the eadge of the spawned in river you pointed out the trees and debris at 16:22 the debris wall wont allow water to flow back into the main river, so until you fix it it will flood again.
Dams don’t let “some” water through. They hold back all water unless the water level behind them is greater than their height which is a little less than 1 unit.
You should turn off pumps during the dry season unless you need it. Makes the water level drop way too fast and will dry everything out in long dry seasons. Also, you are flooding because of the rocks at the end of your river...unblock it, build a damn, should be good.
Word of the day: Buildining /bildəniŋ/ verb 1. construct (something) by putting parts or material together. “I hired a bunch of contractors to buildining my house.”
So... At the tip where you built those three dams, the water from the source is lower than those dams tops, if you were to build a dam on the main part of the river, the right fork, then the area at the top will start to fill nicely.
You need to clear the debris at the edge of the river, it's causing the backflow, and now that you built that last small dam, water won't flow through until it passes a certain level, and it never will because it's easier for the water to just go the other way, so you either need a dam on the other fork, or to destroy the small dam
It's super useful. I started doing this on my hard playthrough with the second type of beavers. It lets me keep my maple farms growing during my >20-day dry seasons. Which lets me keep my engines running the whole time. Those engines power my entire colony. I've given up on using the water wheels, because they only run during the wet season, which is only eight days long now.
@@theInsaneRodent actually if you build a sluice way with some manipulations of water dumps and water pumps you can keep them going forever, it just takes a bit of fiddling to get the ratio just right, plus lots of beavers to transport water from the pump, to the storage tank and then from the tank to the dump
Now just go vertical with some buildings so the remaining land can be better utilized for resource production. (Seen some other people playing with that faction and they have 3 or 4 story buildings with the ones that are stackable.)
Your upper levies wont let any water trough, because it flows in your main river, and therefore the waterlevel doesn't rise to the spillpoint of the levie. You need to build a dam/levie to the main river, to get water in both directions
Holding shift when you hit delete on your keyboard bypasses the warning. Platforms and walkways can be built on top of each other, and a two tile high platform can be built over stairs. You can build up a long way with this spiral method. Think of running your housing vertically.
Damns let water flow through if the level is over ½ a block deep. The second river flooded because the blockages right where it merges with the first river act as levees. The floodgates flooded because despite the level above them not being more than ½ a block high, it was still higher than the floodgates themselves. Note that slitting the flow of the river may cause it to remain lower than ½ a block by your town, potentially messing with downstream flow from damns
I think it is 0.65 depth before dams let water over. The floodgates flooded for the same reason as the second river, but with the floodgates at the end rather than natural blockages. The important point here is that floodgates, natural blockages and levees go up to full block height, but dams do not.
The double debris at the end of the new channel is the culprit of your floding, basically it is like a levy blocking the end, and since there was continious input of water....
Erm @blitz there reason for your river flooded is due to a reason u actually said there river is blocked at the other end linking the river with the other river will sort it or you could remover the blockage at the end of the river to allow flow :)
My tactic with new Disricts to get to metal, because each bloody set of ruins is too far from my original district centre: District Centre, Water Storage, Farmer, Forrester, Lumberjack, Storage, Housing, Drop-Off Point. Build distribution centre in original district, wait until they've filled the drop-off point with materials (and food and water). THEN migrate a dozen beavers, leave them to build and start planting farms & trees, when they all start to need food/water, migrate them ALL back. Fill the Drop Off Point again, Migrate a dozen beavers, repeat. Until everything is built that they'll need to survive on their own, making sure I hit a few of their happiness triggers for efficiencies and that I'm sending over the types of foods they can't make yet. And just have them chug along supporting as many beavers getting scrap as I can manage. When the scrap is all gone, build a new district by the next ruins, do it all again, but hopefully by then have dynamite and they'll have more land with water by it.
the water has no problem moving though the trees and ruins it is the rocky debris at the end of the new river is why it is flooding you need to remove it before the water can flow all the way through. The dam at the top is not letting water through because the water level is to low you need to place another dam on the other side as well so that the water levels out and flows down both sides.
to fix that flod u can either destroy the debreis at the end of that cannal and allow the water flow to the end or put levees on the entire perimeter incresing the side size so the water wont overstep
You can put your new District Center anywhere, it doesn't have to be close to the first one. In fact it probably shouldn't be that close because all that overlapping territory is kind of a waste.
Hey blitz the flood gates make it so you can adjust the amount of water if a flood happens raise the height of the gate and synchronize means all of them are same I hope you can use the flood gates now.
This guy is specifically the reason you need permission from the army core of engineers to adjust the flow of water in any rivers. Because the flow of water and physics seems alien to the unintelligent.
I think the reason the new river is flooding is because it's blocked off at the end. Not by the trees though, by the other thing that I don't know the name of.
i wanna add something, the water not gonna flow to the other side because you made a dam, if you want to dam the new colony river you have to dam the main river too so the water gonna flow to both side. you can either delete the dam or dam the main river.
The top of your flood gates are lower than where the water is coming in from so you need to build levees on the sides of the river upstream from the floodgates
I just wanted to say that but you Already did good job
Take a reply, so he's more likely to see this!
And the reason the dam wasn't letting water through at the end was because the water level is too low since it's also flowing elsewhere.
He'd better see this
@Blitz we're very helpful beavers, just remove the debris :P

Love how Blitz noticed the barrier blocking that river flow before the dry cycle them promptly forgot about it when things got flooded.
yes
I came for this comment.
I was sitting there saying you're so close, just look downstream
At the end of the second river where it dumps into the main one there's a natural barrier that's what's causing the flooding
true
Also the already existing water
He even said something about the Barrier and proceeded to instantly forget about it

not normal you should probably be a bit more clear
1 unit squared you meant

Blitz at the end of your new river there is a blockage which is stopping the flow at the end, once removed your flooding issue should be resolved
@Blitz, if you put a explosive in a hole with water in it, when the drought comes, it works like a free small irrigation tower during the drought

Place a water pump at the lake you created. It would remove the water and the beavers would be able to plant trees without holding their breath.
Blitz, You FLOODED the beaver land because you didn't remove the blockage at the END of the river.
Hey @blitz uk the waterfall through which the river is coming to your village make triple flood gate to store more water
love all of your vids keep going
The reason the second river flooded is because the water has nowhere to go so I suggest getting rid of the stone wall at the end of it
At the end of the river it started to flood because there are barriers at the end, not because of the trees or the ruins
Hydro"electric" dam is needed
