I didn't know Austrians wanted to restore Commonwealth, but that makes so much sense. No doubt that was the idea of Metternich
It was!
If Britain owned Indonesia in addition to India and Malaysia, it would have basically been GG for every other empire. Not only would it have the massive Indonesian population at its disposal, it would have also had 100% control over the straits of Malacca, and the indian ocean would be effectively a British lake as they would control East Africa, south Arabia, India, SEA on the indian ocean and Australia.
Ah yes I do love a nice voyage across the British Indian ocean.
But yeah Britain may decide to just dominant all Asian trade by being a little more open to taking more land from the Qing.
@@The_Alt_Vault The British could annex the entirety of Hainan Island to counter French influence in South China and threatened the French colonies in Indochina.
Who knows, perhaps this alternate Britain might be bold enough to annex Siam (or at least make it a protectorate)?
@@ryannathaniel9296 Maybe, same goes for Taiwan the Brits could take that during the Opium wars.
Maybe they'd want china closed to leverage the massive imperial population

@@crazyduck156eaven is France and britan

Truly a best case scenario
Some extra proposals and aims:
Spain was initially in a great power position, however the Spanish ambassador (a political appointee) was completely ignorant of the situation of Europe, lacked diplomatic skills, and was so annoying he was described as insufferable by the British and swiftly ignored. It was through this loophole that Talleyrand, and then France, sneaked in the negotiations. The Spanish wanted the Rousillon from France and influence over Parma, Tuscany, Lucca and the Two Sicilies due to dinastic ties. They got nothing except international embarassment.
Portugal simply wanted Olivenza back, taken without a treaty by the Spanish in 1801 while they were still allied to France. The issue was pushed under the rug by the British, who wanted Spanish support begore the whole fiasco thing.
As for Bavaria, it was proposed that Austria would annex it while the Wittelsbachs would rule over Belgium, but this was swiftly denied.
There was a fourth option for Saxony. Gigen the royal family was catholic, Prussia purposed an exchange. They would get the mostly protestant Saxony in exchange for the Wettins to rule over Prussian Rhineland and Westphalia, which is mostly catholic.
Portugal also had to give back French Guiana.
Scenario Idea: What if my parents loved me?
For anyone else interested, Historia Civilis made two videos about the Congress of Viena that really goes into great detail into how the event went and what every great power (and diplomats representing them) wanted out of it. It's an excelent watch that really complements this one.

Scenario Idea: What if Britain and Hanover remained in personal union?
That'd mean either queen Victoria never rises to power, or hanover changes its succession laws
@oake6180 easier to do one than the other just have to convince the Hanoverian nobility that the Prussias would take over if they became independent.
But if Britain cam keep hold of it, some minor German states in the north may seek British protection from prussian dominance. Though Britain may give it to Prussia to secure an alliance against Russia. While keeping the tittle of king of Hanover.
@@oake6180slight nitpick: as a constitutional monarch, Victoria reigned, she didn’t rule.
That of course; was the main difference between Britain and Hanover: Britain had a parliamentary tradition going back centuries, and its monarchs were little more than figureheads by this point, whereas Hanover quite frankly wasn’t: it was an absolutist state in the tradition of a lot of the other German states of the time. And though Hanover *did* have a democratic constitution from 1836 onwards, on his succession to the throne, Ernest Augustus abrogated it, dissolved the Hanoverian parliament, and restored the (much more authoritarian) constitution of 1819.
The other problem re. the relationship between Hanover and Britain during the personal union between the two was the level of priority the monarchs gave to each territory: George I and George II clearly preferred Hanover and Hanoverian interests, but George III, being born and brought up in Britain, had little interest in Hanover at all (and never bothered to actually visit the state despite ruling it for nearly 60 years), and though his son George IV actually bothered to visit Hanover (and even had a crown created for his role as King there), and William IV gave it a constitution, Hanover was pretty low down on the list of priorities of both men.
So to the public opinion of people in the Kingdom of Hanover; people resented the fact that Hanover was pretty low down on the list of priorities for its Kings and their representatives. In Britain, people viewed Hanover as an autocratic liability-a millstone around their nexts that got Britain entangled in continental issues that people quite frankly, didn’t want to be involved in.
even though both men *were* next in line to the throne of Hanover, and both men were born and raised in Britain, public opinion in both Kingdoms in respect to the succession of Ernest Augustus I and his son the future George V of Hanover was kind of softened by the fact that they were really only the two members of the Royal Family who were actually bothered about Hanover.
So it would all depend on *who* succeeded in Hanover-if it was still Ernest Augustus I and his descendants, there is no way Hanover would have democratised.
British Germany 😂
What if everything went perfectly for France after Napoleon's coronation in 1804?🎉🎉🎉🎉
Maybe after the proclamation of the second republic.
It would be a bit more interesting.
Seconded!
Roman Empire, then it falls again
Yes like this so ph sees
France dominates Europe till Russia industrialization.....After which Russia and GB destroy French hegemony after like 150 years
Its kinda sad to consider how france wasnt punished at all yet in later wars was driven by mad revanchism for the smallest losses.
I agree. Also Germany was just defending his ally Austria in WW1 (possibly they would take some territories if they had winned), and not doying a big imperialism like France before and in Napoleonic Wars
@@gustavotreze3193 we know what they wanted to do if they won, because when they won in russia they imposed an absolutely insane peace deal (brest-litovsk) so the war was definitely about imperialism for germany
@@VineFynn the Brest-Litovsk peace deal only got implemented because Russia refused the much more lenient peace deal which only saw them lose small amounts of Polish land to an independent Poland and the Baltics, why do people keep failing to mention this very fact?
Also most of the land Russia lost barely had any ethnic Russians in them so they weren't really core territories to begin with, but thats besides the point that Brest-Litovsk only came about after the Russian thought they could somehow just ignore German peace offerings and retake all of Poland and the Baltics once the civil war might've ended.
@@cqpp And also the french wanted a much harsher treaty on Germany in WW1 but the UK and USA held them back in peace negotiations. so the biggest take away is the french are just crazy and no one really cares. i think everyone already knew that tho.
@@cqpp I think that not seeing the ukrainian lands as part of core Russia is fundamentally flawed. Not only were the ukrainian cities mostly Russian and was an economic motor, but it also had a symbolic value.
I just want Denmark to have the entire peninsula. It looks a lot nicer.
True, we should have had an anti-bordergore faction at the table back then.
If they had restored Lotharingia (with UK backing during war) then no more wars for western europe
Just give denmark all of europe
@@donpollo3154 I support that opinion
Yeah, Denmark just looks weird. Give them the Poland threatment:
Clear out Jutland and extend the Netherlands to beef them up there and give Funen and Lolland to Sweden as compensation for Finland. Zealand becomes a part of the United Kingdom so they finally have both Zealand and New Zealand which never made sense that they're split up. Also the brits finally get revenge for the viking invasions. Denmark can keep Bornholm, as a puppet state of Iceland of course.
I think I see some fans of my Danish-Dutch-Hannoverian superstate overhere 😁
Scenario idea: Don't wanting to lose they're new territories, but also wanting a strong Neterland, England decides to use the close relation betwenn bot countries royal families to form a confederation.
Learn better English please.
The Dutch already tried that, and it cost them their hegemony on the seas.
Or just organize a personal union, making England and Anglia finally be under the same rule
Scenario idea:What if Frederick William IV of Prussia had accepted to become Kaiser per the offer of the Frankfurt Parliament in 1849?
You ignored the fact that the Netherlands tried to claim German territory all the way up to Koblenz and that it was almost granted.
Scenario Idea: Seven Years' War but Russia and Austria crush Prussia but Britain still wins on every other continent. My main idea behind this is if the French Revolution and Napoleon happen but Prussia is not there would Austria take over the Rhineland directly and try to go for German unification or would they continue to rule it indirectly. Also, what would happen to Poland before the French Revolution in this scenario?
Historia Civilis has a brilliant 2 part video on the negotiations that took place at the conference of Vienna in 1815. Greatly recommended.

What if Martin Luther became the Pope?

I have to be honest, the scenario where Austria has the possibility of conquering Italy, in a daring hypothetical scenario, even having annexed it, and having influence in even annexed Germania It intrigues me, but I'll tell you in my opinion I would really like to see the scenario where the British annex Indonesia, the guys would do very well, I think that of all the British Indonesia was the What caught my attention the most
I do want to see you say "this small german state would prefer not to get annexed to prussia" for 5 hours lol

What if central america never split, what if Minas Gerais achieved independence from Portugal in the 18th century, what if the separatist movements of the regency period of the Empire of Brazil all succeded, what if everything went right for Bolivia after its independence, what if the Netherlands colonized Nordeste, what if China and Cambodia won the third Indochina war, what if the Iberian Union never split, what if Sweden never lost its colonies until the 1950s, what if Otto III won the war for the Hungarian throne against Charles I, what if Russia didnt expand towards Asia, what if Russia didnt make peace with Prussia in the 7 years war
What if Rio Grande do Sul winned the Ragamuffin war, what if the German Empire restaured the Brazillian monarchy in 1889 (they planned to put Luiz August from Saxe-Coburgh-Gotha dynasty, the husband of princess Leopoldina, in charge of the throne of the "second empire of Brazil")
Scenario Idea; What if Lotharingia survived (Maybe in a way like Poland did)? Or atleast have Lower Lotharingia survive?

it would be interesting to see what if poland havent stopped occupying moscow and didnt collapse internally and what if they didnt stop on only smolensk and what if fake dimitry stayed in power and wasnt overthrowned by the russian people (the day the polish were kicked out of moscow is a unification day in russia celebrated to this day)
I do wonder what would have happened if Britain took all Dutch lands as Indonesia is a massively important part of the world from population density
East India company "Ah yes profits 📈 "
The British government 50 years latter "can I add you to the Raj?"
In 5 years of British occupation, slavery in Indonesia was banned, education supported, capitalism in the form of land rent implemented, infrastructure greatly improved, bureaucracy restructured, and general economic improvement as its own sect (not just an extension of European market) introduced. This is before the fact that the Dutch introduced forced labors and harsh taxation after they regained power. Indonesia taken by the British indefinitely wouldn't only benefit us from the integration of Malaysia, but also as a whole. As much as Indians hate them today, the British were far better colonizers than the Dutch.
@@sharkronical British Empire secretly being the good guy the whole time.

@@sharkronical Don't forget that the British might give Christmas Island and the Cocos and Keeling Islands to Indonesia (since both of those islands had Malay majority population)
I wonder what would happen to the Indonesian monarchies once the British gave them independence, though. Would they have the same fate like our own timeline, something better like what happened to Malaysia, or would the British set up something like a House of Lords for their colony?
Scenario what if austria unified germany, not prussia
Austria unifying Germany with the added caveat; without Prussia, is even more interesting.
In an alternate timeline, the Vienna treaty looks exactly like ours

Scenario idea: What if Sweden won the Great Northern War
Scenario British Empire got everything it wanted
Thats tricky since "wanted" is not the same as "could have got." For example the king of hawaii actually asked Britain to annex the kingdom but Britain refused.
Roads just vibing as he takes the train from Cape Town to Singapore and never leaves British soil. Before take a ship back amd never seeing another country's flag that isn't under British protection.

I would have liked a Danish-Dutch-Hannoverian union as a counterbalance against Britain and Sweden and a Belgian-Rhineland-Bavarian-Polish-Lithuanian cursed state as a counterbalance against France, Prussia, and Russia. Anyone opposed?

What if Australia and New Zealand never existed at all?
What if Japan was conquered by the monghols?
Abolished Yamato Dynasty and Hojo Shogunate, a short lived Mongolian Horde occupying the former Kamakura period Japan… potential early Sengoku Jidai style Kenmu Restoration and Genko War between rival Mongol khans and Chinese princes pretending to be loyal to the Yuan Mongol Empire in China. Possible syncretic Shinto-Buddhist Confucian Japanese empire/feudal military government with high chances of supposed friendships or enmities with Ming China and/or Joseon (an Imjin War can happen in the name of avenging the Mongol invasions of Japan)
What if Sweden won the great northern war.

The initial British plan for the Netherlands was to have the southern border follow the Antwerp-Maatsricht-Jülich line.
King Willem I wanted all of Belgium, Luxembourg, and all of Germany west of the Rhine and north of the Moselle, as well as most French fortesses that straddled the Franco-Belgian border (Givet, Maubeuge, Le Quesnoy, Valenciennes, and Condé).
This was too much, so he had to be content with Belgium when Austria didn't want it back.
What if everything went perfecly for the Ottomans?
What if the US intervened in the spanish civil war?
USA "nobody panic, were here to help"
Republicans "screaming in pain and infighting"
USA "Well guess I'll go see what the nationalists are doing"
Nationalists "I want nothing to do with you"
I think it would have been interesting if Sweden was the 5th major power in the congress of Vienna instead of France because they were on the winning side. Russia and France would be a lot less dominant.
Here's an idea, What if the Duchy of Prussia united with Austria instead of Brandenburg in 1618?
Even better, what if Brandenburg united Austria instead of Prussia, at some point in its history I remember that Bohemia had the right to the throne of Barandenburg, that is, at some point in history If you pull strings, we can get Austria to have Brandenburg.
@@lordeveigar I know Brandenburg became independent from Bohemia somewhere around the mid 12th century.
Exactly I would find it really cool if the Habsburgs had possession in Brandenburg too, Austria would be insane in this alternate reality
@@lordeveigar yeah, since they would now have no one to challenge their power, and without a a protestant power to counteract the catholic Austrians, Germany may become a catholic state lead by Austria after the napoleonic wars since that's where it would most likely happen.
@@ComixStudios-eq2hqYes man, it would be really cool to see an alternative scenario like this and if, like an alternative scenario where the first 2 kings rudolph had not died, Austria would maybe annex Bohemia more Easily, or even further expanding Austrian borders and consolidating Austrian culture and influence, this could lead to Austria being emperor of the HRE for a longer time.
I wish France was weak normally...
How about a strong Germany?
A weaker France will pave the way for a sadder Europe, with the two deadlock delegation factions of the Vienna Congress realigning their alliances back to the starting situation of the Seven Years War, just that the France of this situation is neutralized

So what happens if Napoleon is assassinated in 1809 as almost happened and France is then defeated quickly? Russia is on the outs with the allies. And independent Holand not given to Russia makes sense in this scenario but if Sweden can't defeat Russia can the allies just say "well too bad you should Have Finland but we can't help, sorry." Because it seems hard to give Pomerania as well since I think Prussia got that. Although one thought is that Prussia could be given one of the Dutch colonies.
