    Helpful tip when pulling the fan shroud out. The right side clip has a hinge that folds clip in so you can pull out easier (2013 35i twin turbo)

    Thank you for the video!!. By the way do you know if by any chance this might be why my cars RPM bounces while idling?

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hector Idarza If the idle is surging or bouncing I would look into vacuum leaks. This will make the fan run on super high speed even when the engine is cold.

    Is this the only way to drain the coolant? seems very messy?

    • @biz4twobiz463
      @biz4twobiz463 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES, you can actually loosen a lower hose under the car first. Let the coolant drain, so that when you start removing hose connections to the eThermostat housing...you'll have less mess.

    What would happen without draining coolant? It is less messy with empty coolant reservoir, but I guess we can replace thermostat without draining the whole reservoir if we can handle reasonable amount of remaining coolant in those four pipes. Thanks for the nice instructional video by the way.

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JohnJHPark If you drain it or drain the coolant in the reservoir is definitely less likely to spill everywhere. Changing the thermostat only is not going to drain the whole system so you won’t lose that much coolant. If you don’t drain it the worst will happen is you’ll create a little bit of a mess.

      @@HowtoAutomotive I've just ordered a new thermostat, and I'll do the replacement by myself. Much more confident after watching your video and this reply. Thanks again!

    How much will you charge to do a job like this

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The labor on that job is 1.50 hours. The shops labor rate here is 95 an hour. If you go to the dealer you expect to pay 125 an hour. And the Parts around 60 to 100 bucks depending on markup. + coolant .
