We had a P1 at the shop I work at for a photo shoot. The attention to detail on this car is amazing. Everything on this car is looks exquisite. No flaws in the carbon fiber. Fit and finish is really next level, from interior to bodywork. The car, whether you like the styling or not, is a work of art. I work on exotic cars for a living and I have to admit, this is one of the most finely detailed cars I've seen.
For me this is the most beautiful car in the world & has the all around package 100% nothing missing. If I could choose any car in the world no matter the price it would be a P1 hands down I wouldn't have to think for more than 3 seconds.
SuperStar O looks a lot worse in person and very underwhelming the first time i saw one. Just hasnt grown on me alomg with every other current mclaren .
Seriously, this particular P1 has been through everything. It's got the license plates "PI OOV" and I've seen it here, on Top Gear, and in official races.

Good to hear from some 918 fans here. I still think the original comments are still inline. There have been some tests between P1 and 918 WS. Do notice I say WS model. I have yet to see a comparison with normal model vs P1. The 918 does have more grip but oversteer is always part of it's DNA because of AWD. It's great to see 918 WS very competitive with P1 regardless. The track models are needed due to lack of grip in RWD platforms. 918 Torque can be sent to the front wheels. P1 and LaFerrari don't have that option. The Engineers are clearly being held back. Look at the RWD torque numbers for comparison both are cut to around 664. P1 GTR has been reported to have 738 ft-lbs or 1000NMs.So torque numbers are inline with 918 at the rear.918 front motor provides about 200ft-lbs more. I do assume Ferrari XX will be very similar. Track models provide a testing ground for upgrades and future models. The track only models clearly reinforce the original comments.

He's driven the LaFerrari but I think Ferarri don't allow direct comparisons as part of their road test rules. The fact that he said it's the best implies that it's better than the Ferrari.

King Chechen Porsche still had 918s to sell while Ferrari and McLaren don't have that problem, so I guess that's one way of marketing your product to show it's worthwhile to buy.
McLaren already did the lap on the nordschleife but they refuse to give us the time. They sold all P1s so why dont they just show it? Is it because the 918 has less performence but still did better on the track or what is the reason? I really don't get it.

In what way does this even come close to stepping forward on the 918? in terms of outright performance sure it is slightly faster in most circumstances but in any other measure I dont believe it does. The 918 gets 67mpg while still being just as fast if not faster than the P1 in most circumstances. Another Ignorant comment on youtube.

Awesome review. And i couldn't give a rat's anus about '918 better' 'LaFerrari faster'..just enjoy the fact that we've got these 3 incredible cars out at roughly the same time, each with their own personalities, and all incredibly quick.
I also wonder how many hours they had the car standing still at the charger to recharge the batteries :) I appreciate the technology they put into the car but if one was to take it to a track day then the batteries would probably be dead pretty fast - I'm just guessing but McLaren themselves said that the benchmark for the batteries was for them to last 1 lap of Nürburgring Nordscleife. I realise that the car will still drive but it is hardly a 900 hp car without the electric engine and the characteristics of the throttle response would also be completely altered with the torque filler gone.
The P1 is an absolute jewel of a machine. The performance is mind-boggling. But it doesn't look very nice and the interior isn't very nice. To be honest, I would get a 918, you get the performance, luxury, good looks, fuel economy and ride quality.
If you are looking for a Hybrid with this so called great interior. The new Lamborghini Asterion has what you are looking for in a car. No tests yet but they claim a better fuel economy and more hybrid options then the 918. Hopefully Asterion gets the green for production.

The design of the P1 in real life is outright insane! Seriously pictures and videos does not do justice to it. Also the car is sold out and it would take another 20 years for a brand new hypercar to roll out of McLaren. Though my all time favourite will always be the F1 LM edition.

I dont'know how many lock-to-lock turns it takes in these super-cars, but I can assure you that on a 4 turns lock-to-lock steering system the paddles on the wheel are annoying: once your steering wheel is turned you have to think very hard about which paddle to pull, and that's not always possible exiting a fast corner.
I honestly think that the P1 looks better than the 918 and the LaFerrari. In my opinion, the P1 looks much more futuristic in design compared to its competitors.

John marsh, the ring time for the p1, is that official? Or is that what the so called insiders are saying. My insider tells me the 918 slowed down drasticaly at the end of its ring lap. So I don't put too much stock into these so called lap times. I also keep reading p1 on a different level, so much faster than 918. From Harris to Sutcliffe, well turns out they are flat out wrong. Top gear head to head confirms 918 is a beast, much better car. Car and driver did 60 mph in 2.2 sec, 1/4 mile in 9.8 sec. And p1 was supposed to destroy 918, according to insiders lol. In usual top gear style they do end the review and try to save face for mclaren, p1 is more exciting because its so flawed that it takes time to learn its quirks, its more demanding to drive ect, rubbish. Its the p1 not a lambo diablo. Top gear lap time was a dead heat for p1 and 918. But the way they achieved those times is vastly different. Porsche is smooth, calm and balanced. P1 driver has to be on his toes or an expert just to hang with 918. If the 918 gave p1 a bloody nose, I fear the laferrari will put it in the gutter.

My brother hates this car, because it weighs to much and because it has an ugly aerodynamic, which only wants to look cool and stylish, but unlike a race car. Somehow he is right. And of course this fat Sutcliffe guy figures out only the positive aspects of this car.
You really do need to know next to nothing about this car to have that opinion. There is virtually nothing on this car that isn't about aerodynamics. Every curve is doing something practical. Watch the interviews with the lead engineer and realize how ridiculously wrong you and your brother are. This is quite possibly the most aerodynamic car on the road today.
The quality of materials...the internal technology...the design...everything made by italians is better for millennia...you should know italian high, luxury and sports technology...this car has no soul
At 2:15, why did the car unsettle? It seems that he was on the brakes, but it doesn't make sense for the car to unsettle that much considering he is traveling in a straight line.

Awesome review. And i couldn't give a rat's anus about '918 better' 'LaFerrari faster'..just enjoy the fact that we've got these 3 incredible cars out at roughly the same time, each with their own personalities, and all incredibly quick.

I also wonder how many hours they had the car standing still at the charger to recharge the batteries :) I appreciate the technology they put into the car but if one was to take it to a track day then the batteries would probably be dead pretty fast - I'm just guessing but McLaren themselves said that the benchmark for the batteries was for them to last 1 lap of Nürburgring Nordscleife. I realise that the car will still drive but it is hardly a 900 hp car without the electric engine and the characteristics of the throttle response would also be completely altered with the torque filler gone.
One 1 is faster. Lighter with 400 more hp, and more downforce. Koenigsegg agera r is insane, but not enough turning safety, just too crazy
The P1 is an absolute jewel of a machine. The performance is mind-boggling. But it doesn't look very nice and the interior isn't very nice. To be honest, I would get a 918, you get the performance, luxury, good looks, fuel economy and ride quality.
If you are looking for a Hybrid with this so called great interior. The new Lamborghini Asterion has what you are looking for in a car. No tests yet but they claim a better fuel economy and more hybrid options then the 918.
Hopefully Asterion gets the green for production.

To me, P1 is the best looking car ever made! I agree that the interior is rather poor but I think that in P1 it's all about enjoying the driving, not getting from A to B most comfortably and efficiently....
The design of the P1 in real life is outright insane! Seriously pictures and videos does not do justice to it. Also the car is sold out and it would take another 20 years for a brand new hypercar to roll out of McLaren. Though my all time favourite will always be the F1 LM edition.
I think the P1s exterior looks amazing.
In the Motortrend test the 918 did the quarter mile in 10.0 sec. Haha P1.
If I would have to choose, I would go with the 918, but the P1 is still quicker -> 9.8

Many supercar manufacturers have had issues like that in the past, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Lotus. Shit happens with high performance engines. Ignoring incidents like that, anyone who's ever owned a Porsche will testify that they are among the highest quality and most reliable cars ever to roll off production lines.

This is a wonderful piece of engineering that I would dearly love to own. The same can be said for its two main rivals, the 918 and the "the Ferrari". Anyone arguing about which is better without having driven them clearly doesn't understand the concept of subjective preference. Good day all.

I dont'know how many lock-to-lock turns it takes in these super-cars, but I can assure you that on a 4 turns lock-to-lock steering system the paddles on the wheel are annoying: once your steering wheel is turned you have to think very hard about which paddle to pull, and that's not always possible exiting a fast corner.
What kind of corner are you taking that needs 4 turns ??

I honestly think that the P1 looks better than the 918 and the LaFerrari. In my opinion, the P1 looks much more futuristic in design compared to its competitors.
The Koenigsegg One:1 makes these hybrids hypercars look obsolete when it comes to performance.
It depends on what do you mean ''performance''.Koeningsegg can accelerate faster on straight line and it can beat any car in a drag race.But in a real race or on a race track he cannot beat LaFerrari or P1.Plus it has 300 bhp more than McLaren and 250 more from Ferrari its normal to be faster on a straight line.McLaren and Ferrari are more agile and they can turn better so overall no-one right now (street legal) can beat them on a race track.Straight lines drag races are for useless fat boys who can only put their foot on the pedal and accelerate. Veyron used to be super quick but its a fat elephant even a Fiat 500 can turn on corners better than Veyron
There is a difference in going fast in a straight line and actually making a car go round corners.

Yes, I read the leaked transcript, the 918 thrashed the p1, not one to gloat, but hey. P1 fanboys,, I told you so! second magazine to confirm what I've suspected all along. P1 overhyped and over rated. Lol. 918 is boss.
John marsh, the ring time for the p1, is that official? Or is that what the so called insiders are saying. My insider tells me the 918 slowed down drasticaly at the end of its ring lap. So I don't put too much stock into these so called lap times. I also keep reading p1 on a different level, so much faster than 918. From Harris to Sutcliffe, well turns out they are flat out wrong. Top gear head to head confirms 918 is a beast, much better car. Car and driver did 60 mph in 2.2 sec, 1/4 mile in 9.8 sec. And p1 was supposed to destroy 918, according to insiders lol. In usual top gear style they do end the review and try to save face for mclaren, p1 is more exciting because its so flawed that it takes time to learn its quirks, its more demanding to drive ect, rubbish. Its the p1 not a lambo diablo. Top gear lap time was a dead heat for p1 and 918. But the way they achieved those times is vastly different. Porsche is smooth, calm and balanced. P1 driver has to be on his toes or an expert just to hang with 918. If the 918 gave p1 a bloody nose, I fear the laferrari will put it in the gutter.

My brother hates this car, because it weighs to much and because it has an ugly aerodynamic, which only wants to look cool and stylish, but unlike a race car. Somehow he is right. And of course this fat Sutcliffe guy figures out only the positive aspects of this car.

You really do need to know next to nothing about this car to have that opinion.
There is virtually nothing on this car that isn't about aerodynamics. Every curve is doing something practical. Watch the interviews with the lead engineer and realize how ridiculously wrong you and your brother are. This is quite possibly the most aerodynamic car on the road today.

At 2:15, why did the car unsettle? It seems that he was on the brakes, but it doesn't make sense for the car to unsettle that much considering he is traveling in a straight line.
Don't care which of the 3 new hypercars are better...can't afford them anyway. But the P1 is definitely a looker. On the road this machine truly looks like something out of this world. Good review

Seems to be 0-200 is around 7.2 and 0-300 is over 19 seconds, not the claimed 16.5
