One of the coolest things about these types of videos is the point where he is struggling to drive whilst speaking to the camera. As he pointed out, this was definitely one of those cars. The sheer speed of that thing out of the corners is remarkable.
***** weeell... the 918 is the only convertible and has by far the most luxury (the p1 does not even have a glovebox lol) in terms of extra stuff, the only car that has proven the nordschleife time yet and didn't have a problem. mclaren hasn't given a nurburgring time because the car had problems going fast on that track (because it's bumpy and the car is too hard in the suspension for that, which makes it uncontrollable, also a problem because of its massive downforce). also the 918 is way more economical in terms of fuel consumption. therefore the p1 might be faster. one or the other ^^ ... and the laferrari? a tuned 458 with all known kers and a almost 13 year old, tuned ferrari enzo fxx engine. expected more of ferrari, i'm sorry.
If you really want to bring up practicality and fuel consumption i think you're looking at the wrong kind of cars mate. Speed is EVERYTHING when it comes to these cars, and as soon as the other two are dialed in, i'll bet you they're faster. Or you can call me Jeniffer.
***** lol? fuel consumption and regulations are the reason why they made the cars hybrid. they wanted to show that hybrids can also be fast. otherwise porsche just could've done what they are best at, make that v8 a biturbo, let it have ~850hp alone and have almost 300kg less. and practicality... i mean when i drive a car that has 2 seats, a roof and a radio i at least except a glovebox^^ otherwise for that money you could ask BAC to build you a longbase version where a bigger engine fits in and smoke all of the 3 cars - 918, p1 and laferrari. yea funny joke you stole from jeremy clarkson :P i have no doubt that the p1 can be faster, because they took away many things you still have in the porsche to reach that low weight... even mclaren can't perform magic. on the other hand, porsche is known as the automobile master of calibration. their cars were always as fast as stronger ferraris and lambos with the same weight because the calibration, weight distribution etc. were almost perfect. let's just say we don't know until it's done^^ btw what do you want with 900hp if you can't use them in a city - which is the potential of hybrids. and when i see that the mclaren can go 6 miles whereas the 918 can go 18 miles, i know what i would take for the city - what does the hybrid give me if i still have to fill up the tank like a maniac?^^ both cars have their advantages and disadvantages. but imo the porsche is the better allrounder, whereas the p1 is faster... taking out the laferrari, which is basically a longbase 458 with the ferrari enzo fxx engine and kers mounted on it.
Personally i think you're missing the point of these cars. Fuels consumption is not an integral part of the statement these cars are supposed to make, rather they're a display of what can be achieved using relatively polar bear friendly tech. Note i used the word relatively, because the P1 still spits blue fire out it's ass, and the 918 does have to chimneys the size of coal mining tunnels in the back. I like the 918 and while it certainly would be a better daily driver, i just don't think it makes a big a statement as the P1. I also think the P1 is a bigger "fuck you" to treehuggers such as green peace... Regardless of how cleverly Porsche adjusts the 918, i don't think the 80 less HP and weight disadvantage can be made up for. This remains to be seen though, so no one knows just yet. Do you really think the LaFerrari is no more than that though? An elongated 458 with and old motor and KERS? I find it a bit hard to beleive that Ferrari would put so little effort into it.
Chris Harris is awesome. So glad he got a job on Top Gear. But instead of being on their extra online channel he's more than good enough and has the charisma to have Chris Evans' job.
I waited all week to watch this with a beer in hand. Worth the wait mate! Absolutely brilliant review. I've gone from having zero interest in the 918 to it now being the definitive dream car that I'll never own. Thanks for the great review Chris
+LuaniFFM In a straight line it probably isn't (mostly because of the extra weight it's carrying), but on the track and from a standstill it probably is
+dustyowl99 I honestly fail to see how it's possible for the 918 to be faster than the other two considering it's a car that on top of being ridicilously fast is also well equipped, luxurious and has four drive. Fact of the matter is, though, that the Porsche has beaten the P1 in every test so far. Fair enough, it lost in a straight line, but in both of the track tests that have been done the P1 stood no chance. I'm not a big fan of the Porsche because, for a hypercar, it's a bit dull in terms of looks and what not, but it really is the superior car. Would I rather have the P1? No doubt. Is the P1 better than the 918? No way. Whether or not the 918 is faster than the LaFerrari, however, remains to be seen.
Dear /Drive, This guy is simply GREAT. It is as if he is talking from a poem as he drives this aggressive car. He speeds up his talking and volume as he accelerates, building up the revs until the next gear kicks in. Wow. Thank you, Drive Fan Now
One of the best videos I've seen on Drive, Chris making a description of the car, showing his emotions, it was pretty nice! And what a gorgeous car the 918 is.
Chris, thank you for this great journal. I truly believe this journal is one of your greatest pieces of work. After reading all about the 918 Spyder on the internet and watching numerous videos, you're the only journo that made me feel like I was there with you and I felt the car from my chair. For some time now I've been turning off Porsche, but you've managed to bring me back. Thank you!
The reason this car (and any electric hybrid supercar) gives you a kick in the seat when you floor the throttle is because electric motors provide instant torque (thrust). Thats the secret to its 0-60mph time of 2.5 seconds. This car is true to the German philosopy of motoring - Its all about the engineering
World class review. Give this guy a raise. Rapping a car review while driving at 9/10ths. More more more..! Keep up the good work in production and reviews. The delivery of the reviews is awesome.
Loving the 918, especially the interior, but I've yet to read a single review that doesn't say that the P1 is significantly faster than the Porsche. Im reading 700KG of downforce at 150mph in the P1! I think all weighed up, Id rather have the car made by the people that have won 20 F1 world championships but up most respect to Porsche for this, not quite the Carrera GT love affair I had
The P1 is faster in terms of top speed but the 918 does slightly better from 0-60 I would take the 918 because it just seems like a better driving experience and as you said the interior is really nice.
Raptor Claw I was more referring to cornering speeds than anything else and I think if you're talking driving pleasure theirs no competition between RWD vs 4WD for the real driving purist. BMW have known that for a half a century and have won the world twice over with the philosophy. Less weight, more feel, more fun. We're lucky to have both in the world though, sir. If someone gave me either, I'd be a very happy man. A fantastic period of time to be a car enthusiast regardless!
The 918 has the third fastest lap in the nurburgring behind the Radical SR8 and the Radical SR8L. The P1 dose 0-60 in 2.5 sec with a top speed of 217mph. While the 918 dose 0-62 in 2.8 sec with a top speed of 216mph. Both cars are very impressive.
Nafir Alvarez 0-60 is meaning less and less, especially in a track context. Something Bugatti have failed to clock onto. It's all about good active downforce and lateral G, all the times are made up on the corners.
I remember when the concepts came out for this car I fell in love. Now it's my favorite car/dream car. Every time I don't want to roll out of bed for school, I think of this and get right up.
I hated it at first. Why would I want to buy a hypercar that was a nanny hybrid? Looking at all the pictures of it development, I feel in love with its looks, but I still didnt understand why they didnt just put a massive engine the back of it and make it a Carrera GT update. Then I learned about how it worked and how effective the combo was. I realized that hybrid =/= prius and could be used very effectively. Then it set a record lap time at the Nurburgring. The designers set this car up wonderfully and if it only had an engine it would be a completely different car especially with all that shed weight from no batteries. The 918 is great as it is and I finally have a car that I can call my favorite again.
Throttle why is 918 last? Let me guess because you think it will loose to those insect looking cars? Well you are wrong, porsche is the fastest car on quarter mile, the fastest on the lap, the most efficient, the most beautiful, best sounding car out of the trio imo. Or is there anything else you expect from a car?
Chris was basically speechless after experiencing the 918. That’s all I need to know about how special this car is. Brilliant, the apex of automotive engineering.
@This slice of paradise This sacred throne of Kings I don't agree, most of that undercut, sharp line trend is just lazy design led by marketing. It's why you see it on every car. I'm pretty sure there were many contrarian designers who hated having to succumb to this trend. I see this on BMWs, makes me sick knowing how dedicated to form German's usually are.
Well done Chris..I think you are the only reviewer who can actually make us, the viewers, feel what it is like to actually drive these amazing machines... Cheer's mate!
***** The Veyron is built for a completely different purpose than the P1, 918, and LaFerrari. The Veyron goes in a straight line to a top speed over 400 km/h and it does this very well. But in an effort to make it conformable it also means the Veyron is really heavy. If it did a Nurburgring lap time it would just be an embarrassment to Bugatti. But they are ok with it because they know the car isn't designed to set track records, its designed to set top speed records which it kicks ass in doing
sahil nikumbh I believe Koenigsegg currently holds that record with a car that is a lot lighter and only a 5 litre V8 (twin turbocharged) and goes around corners a whole lot better.
Chris Harris you will go down in history as one of the best motoring jounos. You perfectly balance technical details, personality, oppinion and charisma. Well shot and edited as usual too camera guy.. Keep up the good work.
A vote from one of the (197) countries using the metric system, it'd be great to hear just a mumble of the kw/nm figures. Otherwise awesome stuff, as always.
Jinsun202 OK I got my kilowatt abbreviation wrong. But really, is it too much to ask that the car is described as four billion, six hundred and fourty three million nanometres long? Hmmm?
The editing and videography in this are gorgeous. Even the monologue syncs when it transitions from the interior to exterior shot while leaving the pit line. Nice attention to detail!
Chris Harris is hands down the best writer/driver/entertainment segment around. This guy rocks and knows cars and knows how to explain them. Love this channel.
Brilliant review! One of Chris Harris' best. Love his reactions. I think his initial reaction to dependence on chassis computer control is due to a completely new car, with massive power and torque. My guess is supercars' power natural progression will require more computer control, sort of like trying to fly a X-29 experimental jet without computer control - you just can't do it. Similarly, super cars will have such massive capability, that turning off computer control will almost instantly kill you. It was rewarding that he drove it again the second day - as he would time and time again with a race car - becoming familiar with it, learning its limits and how to squeeze every bit of track performance for competition. The 918 is one of Porsche's finest!
Great review as always Chris, and what a car! I think this could be as fast as the other two due to its 4WD grip in combination with immediate torque of the electric engines compensating the extra weight. Dispite being the most complex, my guess it will be the most reliable of them as well to own.
Truly one of, if not the best vid you and Neil have shot to date. Thank you Chris for bringing this to the masses from a car enthusiast brain with all the respect, fear, lunacy and childish giggles. Great emotion, information and imagery. Of course lets not forget, Thank You Porsche for showing what a hybrid can be. The future does look bright indeed.
This is why i love chris harris. He's the only reviewer I've seen so far who has had the balls/skill to drift this thing. He's also the only the only one who's able to drive it hard enough to find any flaws. Everyone else has just said it's fantastic with no ifs or buts...
With regards to the electronic systems, it's almost as if we are at a point with super cars where computers are a good thing, no only for safety but for performance. Similar to modern fighter jets, it allows the engineers to build something with more performance than anyone other than an F1 driver could ever use, and it reels it in as necessary to ensure that even your grandmother can look heroic.
Porsche's engineers are on point. This thing is an absolute beast, and being a hybrid, just makes it like a well trained guard tiger just itching to tear your face off.
I usually can't watch through an entire review done on a track. but kudos chris, your excitement for the car is well conveyed. "watch again" youtube asks, bloody oath!
awesome video Chris!!!! next one P1!!! then the LA Ferrari! then compare all three!!! back to back!! on the nurberg !!! that would be the most epic video ever...I would be able to die in peace after that lol
I'm sorry to inform you that he is only driving the 918 because they haven't sold them all.. It's like a way to advertise; to give journalists cars. The P1 and LaFerrari have both been sold out so he won't get to drive those. UNLESS! A fantastic private owner let's him have a go in their super rare, super expensive, super car. lol
Most beautiful car made in the past 10 years. Instantly original and recognizable. Not over-designed like some hyper-cars, not lumpy like Bugatti or infantile looking like Pagani. Proper adult car, evocative of Le-Mans bolide designs. And position of two exhausts on top of the engine is a stroke of design genius. Torque vectoring is a must for any novice driver.
jesus, Chris getting speachless.. must be a monster of a car, getting chills just looking at the vid and listetning to the noise.. i think it'll be closer to the p1 and the ferrari than some ppl say.. well done porsche.. awesome vid btw :)
Massive investment is obvious in every aspect of automotive performance...Except the tires. Incremental creep for over 100 years. We have just begun ERW hyper car development. High frequency in wheel suspension, screw force accumulation and return. Uber high speed "airless". Negative pressure, vacuum boost. Yes we can.
Our most recently published patent addresses how to bring more camber g force to the surface. High frequency contact is the opposite of the pneumatic tire!
@@callefalk6557 Our traction is spooled out at millisecond speeds. We are anti bounce and respond to the path of 'most resistance'. The exact opposite of the Pneumatic Tire. We are banned by congress for use on US Highways. Can't stop fleeing criminals was the excuse.
Back in 03, I remember all the Road and Track and Car and Driver type magazines were raving on the engineering of the Enzo, the Carrera Gt, and the SLR McLaren. Move over legends the three companies are back and paving away for the future. Ferrari, Porsche are obvious car god companies, but when you you look and McLaren, they just have winning in their blood. Personally, I just can't wait for a three way comparison. Controversial, yes, these dually powered cars are just blisteringly quick. Great Video Chris!
Love the heat shear the high exhaust creates.. follows you around like your packing an entire power station in the boot.. oh yeah you are.. Cant imagine what the running costs of these hyper cars are, how much are those tyres, special 918 service costs and just how much servicing do those thing take.. there has to be a few hard to reach highly sophisticated hand built consumable parts in that power train, cost you 5k in porsche dealership for new clutch on a normal car.. Yeh yeh dont say if you can afford one it dont matter well.. when running the thing for a few years cost a F458 in porsche invoices.. it just might!
I can't wait for some of this technology to be available in aftermarket applications!!!!!!It will take a long time I believe….Especially the Engine management system. not to mention getting an electric motor to pair up with an gasoline engine.
Well the gasoline engine sounds bulletproof. No timing chain, belts or pulleys = fewer moving parts = less chance of mechanical failure. My biggest concern would be the electronics.
I really enjoy the fact that Ferrari, Porsche, and Mclaren come out with world beating supercars around the same time every 10-15 years or so. Always great to see which will come out on top
"I don't think its gonna be as quick as a laferrari or that mclarren " Nurburgring lap record 6min 57 Mclarren and ferrari too afraid to put official numbers because they know its slower then the 918 and for the p1 witch is a great car its still not faster then the 918 ( Watch the Motortrend Head2head on laguna seca )
+94GOOGLE94 Pretty sure what he said was ¨I didn't think this was going to be¨, not ¨I don't think this is going to be¨. Makes a pretty huge difference.
+Vetle A 6:35 hear what chris said again he said "i don't think it is going to be as quick as la ferrari and that mclarren, but if this is fast enough for you then you're a proper headedness because it is bloddy terrefying for me" If he said i didn't think this was going to be as quick why would he add the sentence "but if this is fast enough for you then you're a proper headedness because it is bloddy terrefying for me" Implaying that there are cars faster in the market with the same thec a direct rival that is faster then the 918 ?
somehow i feel like this car is more appealing than the LaFerrari or the P1… Its like the Carrera GT in that it was never the fastest compared to the Enzo, SLR, etc but it was so much more than the sum of its parts, and when you are talking about a car that has 'parts' which produce around 900hp, that's pretty amazing
I'm still getting used to the sound of that engine. Not sure how I feel about it yet. I miss the high-rev scream of the Carrera GT. Nothing beats that.
I'm rather high right now but Chris Harris sure is a great entertainer....why isn't he and his production company working for a TV series? Or is this part of the slow death of the TV and it's reincarnation on the web?
What an incredible show. Thanks guys. Also want them all. Ferrari by far the best looking, P1 drop dead awesome, Carrera GT; like the theoretical ultimate concept put into practice by the best of the best companies in the universe, perhaps 10 years ahead of its time.
speed is not everything the Ferrari would smoke it but I do not think that is the point of the three the 918 is the technical masterpiece and the most progressive for the future
***** wow, u are a fucking idiot. the laferrari is 1000 lbs!!!! lighter than the 918 spyder. stop talking bullshit u impecile. not to mention that the dct from ferrari is the fastest on the market, as great as the pdk is, its not the best. use google before talking nonsense. the 918 is faster from 0-60 but will stand no chance afterwards.
***** you are so fucking dumb, its unbelievable. the laferrari isnt even out yet. we only got its 0-300 in 15 seconds claim. that being said, the laferrari will beat it in a straight line once its rolling. it has more hp, less weight and the advantage of being rwd. you are a clown now go fuck yourself and stop posting because u have no fucking clue. its simple physics.

yea funny joke you stole from jeremy clarkson :P i have no doubt that the p1 can be faster, because they took away many things you still have in the porsche to reach that low weight... even mclaren can't perform magic. on the other hand, porsche is known as the automobile master of calibration. their cars were always as fast as stronger ferraris and lambos with the same weight because the calibration, weight distribution etc. were almost perfect.
let's just say we don't know until it's done^^
btw what do you want with 900hp if you can't use them in a city - which is the potential of hybrids. and when i see that the mclaren can go 6 miles whereas the 918 can go 18 miles, i know what i would take for the city - what does the hybrid give me if i still have to fill up the tank like a maniac?^^
both cars have their advantages and disadvantages. but imo the porsche is the better allrounder, whereas the p1 is faster... taking out the laferrari, which is basically a longbase 458 with the ferrari enzo fxx engine and kers mounted on it.
Something tells me Evans will be out soon and hopefully, if they're smart, Chris Harris will take a lead roll.
you were right about that....
SMURF!!🖕🏻👊🏻🤟🏻👎🏻
Chris Harris is the only reviewer who can do a long vid and still left viewers wanting more at the end. Great review mate.
I waited all week to watch this with a beer in hand. Worth the wait mate! Absolutely brilliant review. I've gone from having zero interest in the 918 to it now being the definitive dream car that I'll never own. Thanks for the great review Chris
3:43 that bit of radiant heat wave distortion above the car makes it look so much more epic than it already is.
so unique and beautiful
6:36 "I don't think it's gonna be as quick as La Ferrari and that Mc Laren" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha xD
+LuaniFFM In a straight line it probably isn't (mostly because of the extra weight it's carrying), but on the track and from a standstill it probably is
+LuaniFFM lol its not though youre a fucking idiot
+dustyowl99 I personally believe Mclaren wont release its laptime because its slower than the heavier less powerful 918. still love the P1 though
+dustyowl99 Calm down forza boy. It's just a comment you whinny little bitch.
Beautiful car and awdsome review Chris!
In the years I've been watching Chris Harris review cars,
I have never heard him say astonishing and wow as much
as in this video.
Dear /Drive,
This guy is simply GREAT. It is as if he is talking from a poem as he drives this aggressive car. He speeds up his talking and volume as he accelerates, building up the revs until the next gear kicks in. Wow.
Thank you,
Drive Fan Now
Best feature of this car is the teleporting roof
One of the best videos I've seen on Drive, Chris making a description of the car, showing his emotions, it was pretty nice!
And what a gorgeous car the 918 is.
"its petrol farts are PRE-CLEANSED!" LOL Brilliant writing yet again, Harris! Much more exciting than Evo's video.
Thank you!
Hey BMW, how come Porsche allows their near $1,000,000 hypercar to be drifted around, but your ass wouldn't even allow your 435i to be drifted around?
The reason this car (and any electric hybrid supercar) gives you a kick in the seat when you floor the throttle is because electric motors provide instant torque (thrust). Thats the secret to its 0-60mph time of 2.5 seconds. This car is true to the German philosopy of motoring - Its all about the engineering
and now 7 years later the 992 turbo s does 0-100 kmh in 2.5 sek - crazy world
@@deinvater7770 And the Nevaro does it in sub 2 seconds. Even crazier.
@@deinvater7770 The Turbo S has no chance whatsoever against the 918 on a racetrack. It's a nice car but this 918 at a totally different level.
Chris has the best job on the planet. Awesome car.
Chris Harris, changing the perception of motor sports, one TH-cam video at a time. It's an art what he does. Great stuff!!
He needs his own TV show!
I agree. I'd pay to watch it.
He has the absolute best job...and deservedly so. I'm a fan.
World class review. Give this guy a raise. Rapping a car review while driving at 9/10ths. More more more..! Keep up the good work in production and reviews. The delivery of the reviews is awesome.
1. 918
2. P1
3. LaFerrari
918 I WANT YOU
Loving the 918, especially the interior, but I've yet to read a single review that doesn't say that the P1 is significantly faster than the Porsche.
Absolute marvel of engineering on every level.
Say whatever you want about Porsche or VW/VAG. They have the best engineers in the industry.
after every one of these chris harris on drive videos i grumble like i just ate a hearty meal. delicious.
man oh man! This has got to be the best 918 video ever. Well done chris and the production team
Cant wait for the La Ferrari vs P1 vs 918
Throttle why is 918 last?
Let me guess because you think it will loose to those insect looking cars? Well you are wrong, porsche is the fastest car on quarter mile, the fastest on the lap, the most efficient, the most beautiful, best sounding car out of the trio imo.
Or is there anything else you expect from a car?
NEGRO?a?👀🖕🏻🤟🏻🐽
Chris was basically speechless after experiencing the 918. That’s all I need to know about how special this car is. Brilliant, the apex of automotive engineering.
I am glad Porsche didn't go with crazy angels on the design. It is much more elegant inside and out than P1 or LaFerrari and the roof can be removed.
Crazy Angels...sounds like a Band.
they never do so. Function over form. It’s not lamborghini
I hope soon we'll see a race between Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1, Zaporozhets ZAZ-965 and Ferrari LaFerrari.
zapo what?! :D
***** There is a rumor that the P1 did the Nurburgring in 6:47.
But they are ok with it because they know the car isn't designed to set track records, its designed to set top speed records which it kicks ass in doing
sahil nikumbh
I believe Koenigsegg currently holds that record with a car that is a lot lighter and only a 5 litre V8 (twin turbocharged) and goes around corners a whole lot better.
***** what about zonda r I have heard its done it in 6.47 and zonda revoluction will do it in 15 seconds less around nurburgring
Car looks so much better in action than in still pictures. Well done. Thanks Chris!
What WAS the last car you drove where you didn't want to shut the systems off?
Chris Harris you will go down in history as one of the best motoring jounos. You perfectly balance technical details, personality, oppinion and charisma.
Well shot and edited as usual too camera guy..
Keep up the good work.
Chris Harris is still the best. Who agrees?
***** Bereck Obeme
Yup
BONDJÄVEL!!!🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
I love these videos where Harris goes bonkers and whoops for joy. It's awesome and the reason why we mortals love driving.
A vote from one of the (197) countries using the metric system, it'd be great to hear just a mumble of the kw/nm figures. Otherwise awesome stuff, as always.
Fair point, although he did mention kilogrammes and litres :)
By the way, nm = nanometres, Nm = Newton metres. And it's "kW".
Jinsun202 OK I got my kilowatt abbreviation wrong. But really, is it too much to ask that the car is described as four billion, six hundred and fourty three million nanometres long? Hmmm?
It would be nice to do that once in a while, yes!
You can't read? Its in the description. Being a bit too whiny.
GAY-HOMOSEXUALITET??🖕🏻👎🏻👀
The editing and videography in this are gorgeous. Even the monologue syncs when it transitions from the interior to exterior shot while leaving the pit line. Nice attention to detail!
Holy shit, Just seeing Chris so speechless is kinda nerve wracking.
Chris Harris is hands down the best writer/driver/entertainment segment around. This guy rocks and knows cars and knows how to explain them. Love this channel.
9:08 "Thank you Mr. Computer I probably would've spun without you!" Chris and his cheeky comments
First proper review of the car, Chris nails it again. Only wished it was longer.
This is so much better than the Autocar drive!
Beautiful car and awesome review Chris!
Say again? Lol
R U GAY??👀🤪✌🏻😮
This is why i love chris harris. He's the only reviewer I've seen so far who has had the balls/skill to drift this thing. He's also the only the only one who's able to drive it hard enough to find any flaws. Everyone else has just said it's fantastic with no ifs or buts...
Amazing car and great review.
Chris, it has been a pleasure watching you all year. On behalf of everyone who watches and subscribes, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.
At first I thought laferrari was the best. But overtime it seems 918 is the underdog.
Best vid yet on the 918 - cracking videography, thanks. Makes me salivate at the prospect of seeing P1 and fezza.
With regards to the electronic systems, it's almost as if we are at a point with super cars where computers are a good thing, no only for safety but for performance. Similar to modern fighter jets, it allows the engineers to build something with more performance than anyone other than an F1 driver could ever use, and it reels it in as necessary to ensure that even your grandmother can look heroic.
the convertable shots are crazy!! i watched them over and over again
9:35 lol at the guy, he missed it
Porsche's engineers are on point. This thing is an absolute beast, and being a hybrid, just makes it like a well trained guard tiger just itching to tear your face off.
Did Porsche give you 5 sets of tires too?
UNLESS! A fantastic private owner let's him have a go in their super rare, super expensive, super car. lol
that has happened before....remember the F40 & F50?....
Robert Elliott Yeah that's what I'm hopping for.. :/
It's just a rare occurrence I believe but fingers crossed.
SMURF?!?!🖕🏻👀🤟🏻👎🏻👈🏻👊🏻
Most beautiful car made in the past 10 years. Instantly original and recognizable. Not over-designed like some hyper-cars, not lumpy like Bugatti or infantile looking like Pagani. Proper adult car, evocative of Le-Mans bolide designs. And position of two exhausts on top of the engine is a stroke of design genius. Torque vectoring is a must for any novice driver.
Best car in the world imo
Thanks Chris for helping me to take the decision to buy the 918,yesterday i ordered it after watching manu time the youtube film.Ralph,Monaco.
In my opinion is the Porsche more like a hybrid compard to the P1 and the LaFerrari!
Porsche - Thank you for showing me what a real hybrid should look like.
Chris - thanks as always for a wonderful review.
Chris Harris + 918 Spyder = Like before watching.
I did it too :D
ZIGENARE??🖕🏻👎🏻👊🏻
@@callefalk6557 wow. 7 years later. Thanks for reminding my of this video lol.
@@callefalk6557 also.. wtf do you mean?
Chris Harris you continue to be the best reviewer out there. Really feels like we're hanging out with you. Well done mate!
LOVE IT! This is the future without question... now, how can I afford one????
you wait, and have faith
YEE-HAA!!🖕🏻👈🏻🤟🏻
Chris Harris is the best car reviewer out there by far! Bring on the LaFerrari - P1 - 918 test!!!
If my numbers come up on Friday, this is the first thing I put my money down for, along with a GT3 of course whilst I'm at the Porsche centre.
GT3 for learning how to drive a car with more then 300hp (max I have ever ridden) and the 918 because its the holy grail of my automotive dreams.
tubejorrit Exactly. But just drive the 918 with all the assists on and electric mode until I can tame the GT3 :P
ZIGENARE??🖕🏻👀🤟🏻👎🏻
jesus, Chris getting speachless.. must be a monster of a car, getting chills just looking at the vid and listetning to the noise.. i think it'll be closer to the p1 and the ferrari than some ppl say.. well done porsche.. awesome vid btw :)
Yes we can.
Or maybe we just need to shape them differently?
watch?v=Z5bT4hJ4B6M
Our most recently published patent addresses how to bring more camber g force to the surface. High frequency contact is the opposite of the pneumatic tire!
The composite hoops can flex to the surface at speeds the pneumatic can not, high frequency is what is required for true high speed performance.
WTF???🖕🏻🐽👈🏻🤟🏻
9000RPM?! Damn, that is insane for a V8
3:40 This shot has to be one of the most badass things I've ever seen
My biggest concern would be the electronics.
yes like how long would the batterys last and how long does it take to charge for only a 18? min drive??
ErrlsAnd Glass you don't need to charge them really, cuz the car will charge them for you on the go...
If you can afford one, and if you want one, it doesn't matter. Though it may matter if you can afford one, but you DON'T want one.
I really enjoy the fact that Ferrari, Porsche, and Mclaren come out with world beating supercars around the same time every 10-15 years or so. Always great to see which will come out on top
"I don't think its gonna be as quick as a laferrari or that mclarren "
Nurburgring lap record 6min 57 Mclarren and ferrari too afraid to put official numbers because they know its slower then the 918 and for the p1 witch is a great car its still not faster then the 918 ( Watch the Motortrend Head2head on laguna seca )
Funny isn't it ?
Simon 2810
Yes.
+94GOOGLE94 Pretty sure what he said was ¨I didn't think this was going to be¨, not ¨I don't think this is going to be¨.
Makes a pretty huge difference.
+Vetle A 6:35 hear what chris said again
he said "i don't think it is going to be as quick as la ferrari and that mclarren, but if this is fast enough for you then you're a proper headedness because it is bloddy terrefying for me"
If he said i didn't think this was going to be as quick why would he add the sentence "but if this is fast enough for you then you're a proper headedness because it is bloddy terrefying for me" Implaying that there are cars faster in the market with the same thec a direct rival that is faster then the 918 ?
94GOOGLE94 I agree, it does make more sense considering what he said afterwards, but to me it still does sound like he's saying ¨didn't think¨.
Chris, thanks a lot for the best Christmas gift ever. That 918 Spider Hybrid review was heart smoothing.
Jah bless you.
somehow i feel like this car is more appealing than the LaFerrari or the P1… Its like the Carrera GT in that it was never the fastest compared to the Enzo, SLR, etc but it was so much more than the sum of its parts, and when you are talking about a car that has 'parts' which produce around 900hp, that's pretty amazing
CGT is faster than SLR, and maybe as fast as Enzo. It's hard to say because Ferrari cheats, just like McLaren.
CGT, had similar 0-60 times as Enzo (3.5 secs), and that was with manual tranny. And it was certainly faster than an SLR in all areas
SURF!?!?🖕🏻👀🤟🏻👎🏻👈🏻👊🏻
Cannot wait for La Ferrari video! Another brilliant vid, chris!
I'm still getting used to the sound of that engine. Not sure how I feel about it yet. I miss the high-rev scream of the Carrera GT. Nothing beats that.
Best video of the 918 till now.
I prefer the CGT but this thing is awesome as well.
I'm rather high right now but Chris Harris sure is a great entertainer....why isn't he and his production company working for a TV series? Or is this part of the slow death of the TV and it's reincarnation on the web?
What an incredible show. Thanks guys. Also want them all. Ferrari by far the best looking, P1 drop dead awesome, Carrera GT; like the theoretical ultimate concept put into practice by the best of the best companies in the universe, perhaps 10 years ahead of its time.
speed is not everything the Ferrari would smoke it but I do not think that is the point of the three the 918 is the technical masterpiece and the most progressive for the future
it has early 100 less horsepower than the Ferrari do some homework please
*****
wow, u are a fucking idiot.
the laferrari is 1000 lbs!!!! lighter than the 918 spyder. stop talking bullshit u impecile.
not to mention that the dct from ferrari is the fastest on the market, as great as the pdk is, its not the best.
use google before talking nonsense.
the 918 is faster from 0-60 but will stand no chance afterwards.

you are so fucking dumb, its unbelievable.
the laferrari isnt even out yet. we only got its 0-300 in 15 seconds claim. that being said, the laferrari will beat it in a straight line once its rolling. it has more hp, less weight and the advantage of being rwd. you are a clown now go fuck yourself and stop posting because u have no fucking clue. its simple physics.
