Pathrode is a seasonal dish of South Karnataka and Kasaragod district of Kerala State. There are few methods of preparing pathrode. We have already uploaded one and here is the second method. This is a pathrode tava fry. There is no requirement of banana leaves. fried spices are ground with rice. The ground paste is applied over the colocasia leaves, layer by layer and rolled, then steam cooked. After steam cooking, pathrodes are made slice and roasted on the hot tava by adding coconut oil. It tastes so good as we get a crispiness of roasting it.
ingredients-
Raw rice- 1 seru
colocasia leaves
red chillies- 10-15
dhania seeds- 4 tsp
methi seeds- 1 tsp
urad dal- 2 tsp
curry leaves
grated coconut- a fistful
oil for roasting
salt, jaggery, tamarind for taste
turmeric powder

My mom once told me how to make patrode exactly like this. I am amazed how far you are located from us and still the same name and recipe for this wonderful dish ! India is truly unique in its unity in diversity and food is a great force in bringing us together.

Truly amazing. Even gurajatis have this dish and they call this patra! My mom is from costal karnataka and she prepares the way it is shows in other video of same channel. (Which is also very similar)
Since you mentioned jammu i am just thinking this. I have read that Konkani Brahmins (SB and GSBs) of Karnataka are kashmiri descendants who migrated down south during early pandit exodus. They prepare patrode exactly same way! I am no expert of these topics though .
@@krvnaick2022 ok. From Kashmir till Kerala as well. We also have similar migration stories.(Kokanasta /chitpavan Brahmins )
@@SD-ld5lz yes I have heard something similar from my aunt too, she’s a Konkani Christian (Brahmin convert), only advanced dna patterns can reveal such ancient connections. I guess this dish is consumed throughout India due to ample availability in monsoon, but the batter used to layer has regional influences, like my grandma used Besan instead of rice paste etc.
@@krvnaick2022 that’s true, there was a lot of movement of Saraswats throughout India,only few of such movements are in recorded history. It’s natural to feel curious and draw connections. My maternal side is Gaud Brahmin, and I encounter so many Gauds throughout India with no clear connection to my region. Marrying into same kul/gotra/sub caste is discouraged since ancient times. All this gives indication of mass mixing of all Brahmin groups throughout India.

In Maharashtra we use chana dal ata ( coarse besan) in place of rice. Rest all process is same.

Nan last week 1 small piece thinde but within 2 min I got horrible throat pain for 30min...will everyone feel the same after eating...
Vinodchandrashekar, one has to take care that only tender leaves are used for preparing this recipe. In a cluster of leaves, only the center most leaf is to be harvested. Also, sufficient quantity of tamarind must be added to the masala. And patrode must be cooked well in steam. If you observe these precautions, there won't be itching sensation after eating patrode.
Sudharshan this vlog brought back all my childhood memories. I love this roasted pathrode. I literally grew up in a South Kanara home as my best friend was from there. So Aunty used to make this along with tomato Saaru.....aah. I really miss it now. Thank you for the vlog. What happened to Ameya? He is annoyed?

You can check video where another version of patrode is show . that is not fried version. My mom makes it that way, where in the end instead of cutting in circle, its cut into small pieces and then seasoned. She adds grated coconut and some jaggery if leaf is itchy.
