  • When performing preacher curls, which is a classic favorite of the most gym goers, you actually lose bicep muscle fiber recruitment at the very top and bottom range of motion.
At the very bottom position of a preacher curl you have loads of tension on the wrist, forearm and connective tissue in the elbow joint. The bicep fibers don’t get recruited until the elbow starts to bend.
Then at the very top range of motion when your forearm is perpendicular to the floor, you lose bicep activation again because the weight is now just balancing in your hands.
To get the most out of your preacher curl and to keep constant tension on the biceps throughout the entire range of motion, all you need to do is add a resistance band to the bar and have it pull away from you. From the bottom of the range of motion all the way to the top you will not only be fighting the force of gravity but also the resistance band trying to pull the bar away from you keeping the biceps under tension throughout the entire range of motion.
    Get those gains!
