Made the mistake of buying adjustable dumbbells a while back. Yeah they’re space savers for sure, but I almost immediately realized that switching weight with pairs of dumbbells is significantly faster and easier than adjustables, not to mention that most adjustables can’t be safely dropped and the bulky design makes doing some iso movements absurdly difficult. If I could go back and change one thing, buying pairs instead of adjustables would be it. As always, great content Coop. 🤙🏾 EDIT: I have Powerblock Elite Exp with stage kits 2 and 3, just in case anyone was curious to what my complaints are in reference to.
I get they are a little clunky but too many people complain about the speed to change the weight but come on man! What are we doin go speed runs? I takes maybe 30 seconds to switch weights on these. Do it during your rest period.
I'd rather have plain ol' dumbbells. You don't need a full set. Most people will probably only use a fraction of it, especially beginners, and most will just use a bar and plates when they start going heavy. Get 2 or 3 pairs to start out with then add more later on if you need to. They really don't take up that much space, there are plenty of ways to organize them and no need to have them laid out individually like a commercial gym would. They're extremely versatile and will last a lifetime, plus can be pretty cheap if you stick to lighter pairs. A good investment if you ask me.
@@ig7036 Agreed. I've been slowly building a collection of dumbbells for 17 years, but after spending $100 on a set of 50s (which was a good deal), and then needing room to go heavier, and having some irritating weight gaps (I only have one 35lb, which is my current working weight for several movements, but buying a second one is at least $45), I just decided to pull the trigger on the Nuobell 80s. I get all those gaps filled in, plus I get the equivalent of all the pairs of heavier dumbbells up to 80 lbs in five pound increments, which is where the value of the adjustables really shines. My brother got a set of Core 50s with a stand, and while I thought 50 lbs was a bit too light for the max, the simplicity, ergonomics, and convenience of the setup was really appealing.
I’m feeling very awesome right now that I have every one of these items. Including the leaf blower !! I would sweep for 20 minutes and they’d blow right back in. Lol!! I did make the mistake of the foam flooring but, live and learn! I’ll be replacing it with new floors very soon😊 Thanks for this video!!!
I was fortunate enough to buy pretty much every you mentioned like a month before covid struck and gym equipment skyrocketed. Although I kind of wish I purchased dumbells and a rack instead of opting for the dumbell bars that you manually add plates to and clip them on. It's super inconvenient having to constantly change the plates everytime I want to move up in weight or change exercises!
I literally have everything on this list and my garage gym is super minimal. I would 100% get rid of a leaf blower for a fan or a heater (especially now in Canada) and a broom. Sweeping between sets is the best.
+10 on the leaf blower. My garage is was built in the 50's. I have finished it, insulated it, clean it constantly- and some how dust rains down from the ceiling. When we do wall ball shots, you almost need safety glass. The leaf blower is a life saver for getting 70 percent of the crap out of the workout space in minutes (when you're done using it, you'll think it got 90 percent out, but another 20 percent will linger in the air and settle back into your gym after a few days)
I agree with the body weight exercise comment, when I first started at 14/15, it was push up variations and an empty gallon of Gatorade filled with water. Once my foundation was built, and workouts started taking a very long time to feel tired, I moved on to a regular gym membership, where I truly flourished with all the different equipment. Now that gym memberships have gotten absolutely crazy expensive, I made my home gym. Biggest thing for me so far is wanting a pull up bar. My basement ceilings are too short, and it gets cold where I am at, not the most convenient to go outside. The door frame ones suck, I’ve tried a few different types. Going to my sporting goods store today to see if I can figure something out.
Waiting for Elite FTS to get the cambered gridiron bar back in stock. I need something to save my shoulders. Spent 6weeks in a therapist office for a shoulder impingement. Not 100% but getting better.
Honestly the leaf blower is NO JOKE. 3 years ago I got one bc I was tired of sweeping the leafs out of my garage gym. 😂😂 I recommend it to everyone lol but for real.

@@girlsdrinkfeck Idk man, all I have are two crappy adjustable dumbbells that come in handy in emergency times and cost something like 50€ including the additional 5 kg plates (intended for the cheap-ass companion barbell I guess, but if it fits...) I bought. 2 kg (handle) to 20 kg (all loaded) both sides, or up to 30 kg if you put everything you can fit on one. They do not look good, screwing the nut on and off to change weight is a pain, but they take no space, have lasted me more than 10 years and other than the threaded bar and nut jutting out of the end they have exactly the same ergonomics of the regular cylindrical set. If I had a barbell, rack and bench to do heavy stuff I would totally be fine with just that, and without the aforementioned space-hungry and costly stuff those Chinese dumbbells have saved most of what little muscle I had before lockdowns and will continue to do so until I can get my ass back to lifting with homies on the way back from work.

Won't lie, I thought at first the barbell you were holding in the thumbnail was a stripper pole and was curious why that would be in your top 10 gym essentials.
I'm starting to build my home gym and that's the list that I was thinking about. Dumbells here in Brazil are too expansive, I recommend to do concrete dumbells. A dumbell of 16 kg here costs about 350 Reais. With 26 Reais I made a pair of 5 kg, a pair of 10 kg, a pair of 17 kg and a pair of 1 kg. Now that I'm gonna buy a barbell bar I'll do some concrete plates.
I'd replace the gymnastic rings with a TRX style suspension trainer. I'd also add in resistance bands. Both are inexpensive, take up very little room and can be used for a number of exercises.
I got 35s in a big weight package set and thought I'd never use em, but they have become my go to for propping open my door to get some airflow, definitely essential

Cable attachement on that power rack and some bands, more important then that leaf blower...
Bands are essential items. You can mimick a lot of cable exercises with a good set of bands and a few shackles.
100% agree on the leaf blower! And for the winter, a good heater. Placing hands on frozen KBs is brutal.
All these people shitting on Coop for “not looking like he lifts” when he can squat more than 90% of them lmao.
I don't know man...coop is an equipment seller...not a fitness guy.
It's probably his nutrition. His face doesn't look like he's has lean body fat, so he probably lifts a lot, and then convinces himself he earned that cheesecake. (no offense, life is short, as long as you're happy!) :)
And does muscle ups on rings pretty well
Looks quite ordinary, but surprisingly strong squatter👍
The man did a muscle-up. That means he’s in better shape than 95% of the planet
Couldn’t agree more. Finished mine up with all those items today and cleaned it up with a leaf blower!
Heavy bag is the best cardio ever. Not only does it make you sweat, but it works muscle and its functional. Learning how to throw a punch never hurt anyone.
I love the irony of your comment but you are absolutely right, great cardio from the good workout.

I love using my kettlebells to do a full body warm up before lifting..I do some swings ,squats, around the worlds, snatches etc…warms up your joints and heats up the muscles.
Perfect! I almost did mine in the same order you listed. I bought the horse stall mats after the barbell plates though. Other reviewers will list some pretty high dollar items and perform one or two exercises. Thanks for keeping it realistic.
I use my Stihl BR800 to clean my yard, snow in winter and my garage/home gym. Works great!
The $1.100 Bare Steel Eleiko Power Bar should be your highest priority for a home gym lol
Yep...checked that off my list...its awesome
Watson Gym Works stainless plates. Should be an essential.
@@bmstylee I have never heard of these and just looked them up and now you owe me thousands of dollars for dental work after the damage done from my jaw hitting the floor. They look amazing but holy cow are they expensive.
@@BM-si2ei add in shipping, duties, and finding an import/export guy and it gets even more expensive. They are beautiful plates though. A set costs more than everything in my gym. Rogue RM4, 3 Rogue bars, full set of bumpers and iron plates, all the wall art which is a lot of pieces, 2 platforms and the materials to insulate the walls, ceiling, and sheet the walls in my 1 car garage.
I mean should it though? That's a huge waste of money for a bar..... this is why people don't have home gyms lol advice like this
Coop keeps being the People’s Champ, keep grinding brudduh
I don’t want any equipment and am not even living at home I’m at college,
but
I still can’t stop watching all of coop’s videos
Putting together a home gym and we would not be friends in real life but your videos have been really helpful. So, thank you.
EDIT: I have Powerblock Elite Exp with stage kits 2 and 3, just in case anyone was curious to what my complaints are in reference to.
@@HarakiriRock too expensive atm adjustables are the way to go
@@ig7036 Agreed.
@@NathanielDowell Combine with weight cuffs, and don't use momentum. No one needs a 35 lb dumbbell.
The leafblower, especially the Milwaukee one is essential because I constantly get dust and leaves in mine.
One of the greatest things about Coop is that he looks like a perfectly normal guy, until he starts jacking steel and performing muscle-ups.
I am blessed to have everything on the list and yes, blowing out my garage is my pre workout ritual.
I’m feeling very awesome right now that I have every one of these items. Including the leaf blower !! I would sweep for 20 minutes and they’d blow right back in. Lol!! I did make the mistake of the foam flooring but, live and learn! I’ll be replacing it with new floors very soon😊 Thanks for this video!!!
the pure hatred for foam tiles...so primal. love it
I was fortunate enough to buy pretty much every you mentioned like a month before covid struck and gym equipment skyrocketed. Although I kind of wish I purchased dumbells and a rack instead of opting for the dumbell bars that you manually add plates to and clip them on. It's super inconvenient having to constantly change the plates everytime I want to move up in weight or change exercises!
I would add some sort of pulley system. Titan fitness makes one that takes up very little space, I love it
10:50 I literally just bought foam tiles lmao 💀
I would put a lat pulley system (usually bolted on the power rack) / cable system on spot number 6 over kettle bells.
Super excited to get my home gym going. Enjoy your content!
Most impressed with his ring muscle ups
I was super surprised too. Boy is stronger then he looks.
I got adjustable dumbells as a gift, and have an adjustable bench. That's really all I need for my use.
Makes me feel good to have almost all the items...sans kettle bells. Also, the mustache should be #11!
Love it -- and agree with all of them! If you have mirrors, be sure to mount them well when using a leaf blower - almost found that out the hard way
Coop please talk about benefits of a Swiss bar, they have saved my shoulders and wrists!
I think coop did reviews of various football and swiss bars, I know that influenced me in buying a Kabuki kadillac bar
Waiting for Elite FTS to get the cambered gridiron bar back in stock. I need something to save my shoulders. Spent 6weeks in a therapist office for a shoulder impingement. Not 100% but getting better.
Just got one. Love the thing
@@bmstylee I got the Swiss bar as have torn both wrist and pec using a barbells. Do not regret it. Can bench pain free now
Honestly the leaf blower is NO JOKE. 3 years ago I got one bc I was tired of sweeping the leafs out of my garage gym. 😂😂 I recommend it to everyone lol but for real.
I love my foam mats
As someone who discovered the power of the leafblower indoors 3 years ago, this video spoke to my soul at the end
Hey coop, when is the best adjustible dumbell comparison coming?
I bought some and all you need is standard 10lb plates and 18 inch spinlock handles its cheapest and sturdiest
I think he did one already comparing the BowFlex, PowerBlocks, and IronMaster. I could be mistaken and thinking of the individual reviews.
@@hidudehello3270 adjustable dumbbells are all overpriced clunky oversized cheesy looking CRAP IMO, 1inch spinlock bars FTW and a crap load of 1 - 5kg plates
I'm waiting on one more set. Unfortunately, some of these companies don't even have any in their warehouse to send us.
@@GarageGymReviews what do you think of spinlock dumbells?
Powerblocks 90's came first for me. Had them for two years doing every exercise along with a bench.
Cardio a treadmill.
Schwinn airdyne AD2 bike I picked up for $5.
THEN came the half squat rack with weights and barbell.
Stamina X Fortress Power tower. (Free!)
Leg machine with standard weights.
This covers every area of the body inside as well as outside.
Never neglect cardio folks. All the weight lifting in the world won't let you live longer if your heart is out of shape.
“Adjustable dumbbells” as Coop stands behind a wall of 5-120lb DBs
id never waste my money on adjustable
@@Rookie64v I got my spin locks used or cheap. And I got some nice 18 inch bars that can easily hold 60kg of plates each with a, capping end plate on it! The capping plate spins on the end without the need for a spin lock nut so it's flush. Very good stuff
Now that I have most of these...
I now actually have to go to the gym and use it.
After having all these equipments at gym, I can just start giving membership to my neighbours
Brilliant!
I have everything you mentioned and then some in my garage home gym, except my flooring, which is carpet.
Hey Coop! Will you do a top 10 rack attachments!
#10 was actually incredibly practical
and I would have never thought of it.
Thanks again COOP!!
Extremely Strong Trainer would tell you to reverse programm that schmideydig and leave the rings Rb4.
I have a home gym and all I have are dumbbells a pullup bar a bunch of p90x dvds. So far it's working :)
We need a Nuobell droptest!
Number one and most important home gym essential is subscribing to this channel..and thats a FACT!!
If this list had a number 11 it would be 35lbs plates.
45 pound plates are better
This makes me feel better about owning one pair of 35s
I got 35s in a big weight package set and thought I'd never use em, but they have become my go to for propping open my door to get some airflow, definitely essential
LIES! DON'T LISTEN TO THIS GUY! IT'S A TRAP!
@@GarageGymReviews "Hey want to come down to my basement and train with all the 35s your heart desires?"
Spot on with the leaf blower....we often say that and the Rouge Assault bike are the most effective tools for their job but the leaf blower has to be #1.
Missing a landmine attachment on the list. Extremely versatile, rather cheap, takes up almost no floor space.
He just uses a tennis ball on the end and puts it in a corner.
Landmines are pretty useless for most people. I've never done a landmine row in my life and see no reason to
@@TrenbologneSandwich Landmines can give you multiple row angles (tbar rows are fantastic) and shoulder exercises you cannot otherwise achieve with a barbell or dumbbells. Pretty reasonable for the $60 they cost. You are not going to get that versatility out of $60 anywhere else.

a section of foam tiles(on top of floor of mats), say 10x10, is great for lying on to stretch, exercise like get ups, etc. can move it or lean against wall.
Also have a section to stand on for barefoot squatting. gives toes something to grip.

No.2 place to hang Gymnastics Rings
No.3 Kettlebell

100%!!! I started with a crappy 300 lb weight set and a crappy New York Barbell power rack. First thing I upgraded when I could afford it was the bar to a Texas power bar. These things served me well for over a decade. I have since upgraded everything and sold all the original stuff on craigslist and I'm sure all of it is being used by someone to this day. Buy what you can afford, but get the basics first.

1. suspension trainer or gymnastic rings
2. weight (dumbbell, kettlebell, weight vest, chains, etc.)

I agree the leaf blower is essential. My gym is set up outside in a covered patio in my backyard. Thank fully I’m in Los Angeles and the weather is always nice. But, it gets dirty easily and without the leaf blower it would just be unmanageable.
