I have this pet theory about how Newtypes work, long story short it's a non-linear perception of time that can bleed out to other people; I think on top of the trauma Boone sees the Gundam like that because on some level he knows it's what kills him.
It's pretty much like when soldiers using iron weapons against stone or bronze weapons. Iron weaponry are so much sturdier and harder than bronze it steamrolled them so hard. Gundam was ridiculous. The power output is 5X than Zaku (based on MSG first episode) and the Gundarium alloy was so strong compared to Ceramic and Steel alloy it was ridiculous. The fact that it carry a compacted beam based weapon was also crazy. Imagine still using musket and someone already using modern rifle with full metal jacket bullets.
Gundam having the name The White Devil really makes you feel bad for them. They were horrified of this monster of a mobile suit that cut down and vaporized their friends, as well as just mercilessly mowing through young soldiers with little to no actual combat experience. What else would you call something other than a Devil.
I've always loved how expansive the UC has become. It can get a little jumbled up with whats goes where and whats canon or not, but I LOVE that there are so many different angles and sides to the conflict. The fact that someone can write a compelling story about the adventures of a supposed one-offer like Flannagan Boone says alot, let alone a piece of really fascinating Psychological horror!
THIS IS THE ONE!!! A friend mentioned a manga where a Zeon soldier sees the Gundam and it looks like a grim reaper horror monster to him but I for the life of me could not find the name. Thank you.
Garma seemed like a nice guy, but he was also a complete idiot. If Char hadn't betrayed him, he would have gotten killed in some other way. Or, had he survived and Zeon somehow won the war, he would have become just a puppet to Gihren like his father. Char's final words to him had multiple layers since it was the misfortune of his birth that led him to be a nepo kid who was promoted far beyond his abilities.
Even if Garma is nice but the rest of his family are backstabbing people. Also Garma will never gain position of power because Gihren will make sure of that.
@@fattiger6957 Garma was the good child of the Zabi family. He could be overzealous at times but that came more from a sense of youthful insecurity combined with the massive expectations placed on him rather than any sort of fanaticism. Wait so the guy who wrote Zeta Gundam ALSO wrote Eureka Seven.....That is a god damn whiplash lol. But wow, this is a pretty interesting look at how most people see the mobile suits, namely the gundam and it further proves that there are some good people on the Zeon side, despite all of the evil most of the time they do, especially the Zabis and Char. That is something I wish more modren gundam shows should embrace instead of both sides are awful with barely any good or there is nothing to grasp at or only the bad guys are bad and the good guys are super good. Plus they also don't go nearly as hard with the mental trauma as this does so again still interesting.
@@MrDarksol To be fair he was one of many writers on both but the shows vibes are definitely different lol. I agree with everything else you said as well.
Gundam (especially UC) can get really depressing. I couldn't even finish Unicorn because all the moral relativism BS. Tomino grew up in the ruins of post-WW2 Japan. He was anti-war because he saw the results of it first hand. It informed his work afterwards. So, while there are decent people in Zeon, he presented the nation as a whole as abhorrent. And while the Federation was not presented as saints at all, at least we had the grounding of people fighting for their home against abject tyranny. I feel like the writers of modern Gundam don't have anywhere close to the understanding that Tomino did. To be honest, I don't really care who wins what in the current state of UC. Both sides are terrible. The Zeon remnants tell themselves a lie that they were the saviours of spacenoids (despite the millions of spacenoids they killed to do colony drops) and the Federation gets more and more authoritarian and extreme under the auspices of fighting those remnants. There really isn't any optimism in Gundam and the best case scenario for UC is the Turn A future where humanity "only" almost destroys itself with a war machine.
@@fattiger6957 Oh believe me I know that a lot of the modern writers in recent gundam shows do not have that same energy considering most of the time it's either we have to be so dark as possible that we end app making the villains win but the heroes have to keep suffering so many losses and never get barely any victories and another one where let's waste 99% of the show's plot having the characters go to a stupid school setting and all have rushed endings. Also I hear you about trying to watch unicorn and failing miserably although I at least was able to finish it but I can't tell you a d*** thing about the plot I was just literally there for the great music and the awesome mobile zoo fights and the fact that we had one Puru clone that lasted longer then any of the other clones did. @@MrDarksol I couldn't find anything to latch onto in Unicorn. The whats-his-name main character was bland and floppy as a wet paper towel. I even supported his action in killing that Zeon pilot who went nuts and allowed her mobile armor to go out of control. But I suspect he went crazy in the later half of the series and became the villain. Yeah, the Federation was definitely down the dark path by Zeta. But at least Sunrise took pains to explain why they gave power to the Titans with Stardust Memory. It kinda makes sense that a government would go extreme after another colony drop due to the failure of their military. As someone who only watched F91 and a few episodes of Victory, I have no idea where they can take the UC timeline in the future. This series does show really well that there are good people on either side of the conflict just as there are bad people on either side of the conflict. You have to stop people from becoming their worse selves in order to stop war as opposed to just fighting everyone that is on the "other side".

I didnt even watc guyver, but the artstyle and especially the thumbnail really strike me as the same biomechanical horror. Anyways, it's super cool to see how terrifying all mobile suits are to their enemies, I'm glad that they didn't just explore the white devil but also the zeon's mono eyes. Strangely despite being described as opposites, they're both rightfully horrifying when you're on the receiving end Our lives would flash before our eyes if any of us saw a modern tank suddenly burst through our home, we can't even grasp how terrfying 20 meters titans would be to us.
”機動戦士ガンダム 宇宙のイシュタム” I am not sure English version is available but the story explain how evil Federation is since the beginning of this saga. Even breathing air is heavily taxed by Federation and many "poor" space colonists struggles for their lives prior to the 1 year war . This "air tax" is also mentioned in "ZZ." This space colony project has an aspect of abandoning low class into space. A space colony is actually a space ghetto for some. Although we may tend to think ”only the rich can live in space colony," it is actually opposite in Gundam series. "Gundam Unicorn" also mention this aspect with the "Box of Laplace. "

From Zeta we knew that he got PTSD and his attempt to cope with that is he loves to fool around with the ladies a lot but afraid of commitment (well, until CCA that is, but you know what happened there). Heck, his first scene from Zeta was him leaving a car full of girls (Fraw already married to Hayato at this time and we're diverting from Tomino timeline where Amuro hooking up with Sayla so....) Also since Quattro is part of the AEUG, I wonder what kind of interaction between Amuro and him at that time. Sometimes I wonder if Quattro can see Amuro's other side. Also it's kinda telling that broken people tend to be drift closer to each other. Heck, in Super Robot Wars series, Misato has a crush on CCA Amuro.
man Amuro's PTSD is so fascinating to see, how he cope with his situation and how he react before he eventually got roped back into the conflict is sad. man's afraid of war but keep a front of this hero who saved the war. i wish Tomino commit to the idea of Amuro getting with Sayla so CCA can hit harder because i don't really care about Chen.
That Miharu part, I think it will be much worse in this manga since in the series she only got thrown out from the plane from the force of rocket's exhaust. But in reality she will be burned so bad her body probably not going to be recognizeable so Kai was spared to not see her last moment. I want to see Kai going back to Ireland and adopt the two kids.
