Thank you Michael! In my case, intermittently the door would start to close for a second or two then return open. I found the green sensor LED flickering during operation. Cause of problem was loosely mounted sensing LED, vibration of door closing was shaking receiver. Tightened wing nut and back in business. Thank you for your video.

My situation was much the same as many others: door would open from touchpad but not anything else, then would not close anytime thereafter unless you held down keypad opener until fully closed then release. Figured it must be sunlight overpowering sensors light and ordered 2 new sensors. While inspecting wiring (OK), noticed back of 1sensor was not fully snapped together ( ladder in that area had been moved and dislodged slightly the back cover. Pressed sensor & back cover together, everything works now.

You seem to know alot about these garage door systems. See if you can figure this one out; wall push button light is flashing continuously and will not operate the door. Except if I somehow mess around with the "lock"button, in which case it MAY open but then starts closing before it's up all the way. Remotes work. Keypad won't work. Sensor lights are on and are working properly. I can play around with all the buttons and get it to open and then I just stand there and watch it go partially up and then partially down and then partially up then partially down... all by itself! The light on the motor does not flash.

Michael Borders: Thanks for your prompt reply! We misplaced our book. We have a Chamberlain chain drive and its almost identical to yours. The carriage was bound up real tight. Physically the opener is trying to open the door but the carriage won't move. I took the pin out of the bar that connects the door to the opener. Now it will move. Not sure what caused it to bind to begin with. Anyway I'm trying to remember how to re program both directions. So I (1) press and hold the teach button. (2) Press the up button until the door is fully raised. (3) press and hold the down button until the door seals on the floor. .... after that not sure...should I press the teach button again, I think I'm leaving something out haha...If you have time I appreciate it, very much!!

I have 3 overhead garage doors using the side winders motors mounted on the side of garage door. I do have 2 ceiling lights trade off flashing when the doors don't close. The doors will go sown a couple inches and then one of the overhead ceiling lights will flash 10 times indicating sensor, wiring and misalignment issues. The problem is only when closing the garage doors doesn't matter which door and it doesn't matter whether you are using the remote from the car or standing in the garage using the manual button. The only way I get the door to close is hold the manual button down until the door is closed all the way. Sensors have the ambler and green lights for alignment but still problems. I'm guessing there's some kind of frequency interference. I hate to call a door tech out and they come out and do a couple things and the doors are working when they leave but then the next day the doors will be back to their usual erratic behavior.
Any suggestion. Doors are 9 years old. Chamberlan Liftmaster Elite Series model 3800.
Oh yeah the ceiling lights are just as erratic, they come in via motion detection but are suppose to go off after a few minutes. Sometimes they just stay on all night. I will push the manual light button and one light will go off and then the other light will come on. Sometimes pressing the button twice will turn both off. We have changed the bulbs in these too and they are just your regular cheap light bulbs, No LED's.

Earl, how have you been? Great to hear from you. Let’s get this figured! By chance, do you have new LED bulbs installed in unit?
We ask because more times than not, LED lights installed in older units can interfere with the signal thus causing degraded performance with your system.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I have removed the LED lights in my ceiling lights but my outside coach lights have LED's light bulbs maybe I should remove them too since they are so close to the garage door. I also removed all my wifi cams near the garage. I even add additional wiring to the antenna because the door would only open if I was within 5 feet of the door, so I always had to get out of the car to use the remote. The longer wiring has help now and can open the door from the street now. Tomorrow morning I'm going to try the reprogramming of the motors to see if that's the problem. I have adjusted the sensors until I'm blue in the face.

Thanks for the reply. It’s also possible that your remote button is losing its top notch condition.
Try pressing & holding remote button down for 3-5 seconds. If it works at longer distances...& it doesn’t work when just tapping on button, your remote is fading away & will fail all together sooner or later.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I have 3 remotes with all new batteries, I only use the one remote for the stall I park in. All 3 remotes have 3 buttons and all 3 are program to open all doors. The 2 remotes that I nee=ver use don't work either. Everything works when the doors are working once the door won't go down it doesn't matter whether you try all 3 remotes, try the manual wall button or even the remote keypad outside mounted on the side of the door.
The problem exist with the remotes and the manual wall buttons at the same time. So I don't think my problem is the control wireless remotes or wall mounted buttons. I wish I could add a quick video here.

Thanks for the reply Earl. As the units continue to age, you may be stuck with stubborn & annoying behaviors from the remotes....unfortunately...however normal. 😆

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders

      tomal_rocks
Thanks for watching. If you are hearing mechanical noises or grinding, it’s very possible that your chain has become disconnected from the track and motor.
The motor is most likely doing what it is supposed to and attempting to grab ahold of the chain links to open and close the door...however...the sound you are hearing may be the internal motor attempting to grab ahold of the chain, but while doing so...it’s missing the links.

I have 3 side winders Liftmaster garage door openers. All 3 of them will open with no problems. But when I go to close them most of the time the door tries to go down about a foot before it returns and the ceiling light is flashing 10 times. I can hold the button down and the door will close as long as I hold the button until its all the way down/closed. All my wiring seems to be fine. I hit the reset button for 5 seconds, unplugged power for a minute but still have problem. I use to be a half a block away the doors would open with the remote, now I got to get out of my car and be within 5 feet of the door for it to finally open. I check the sensors and one is amber color and the other is a very fast flashing green, I tried to adjust it but the green light goes out all together. Any ideas before I use dynamite : )
I should add that the doors have all worked fine for 8 years only in the last several months they been erratic.

Thanks for watching. 10 flash indicates that your sensors are off set or dirty. It’s very possible that the laser lens is dirty and leading to erratic and faulty readings.
Also check the wiring connections at both sensors. One sensor should be Amber and the other should be Green.
It’s also possible that your sensors are not properly secured to the mount and as the door is opening and closing, the slightest vibration is leading to a misaligned sensor. Keep us posted.

I cleaned all the sensors lens and the one sensor that was flicking green is now a steady light. I will go around with a wrench and make sure all the hinges and rails are tight. I appears I have more problems with the doors when the sun is rising or sitting low or high with the sun shinning directly into a sensor. When the sun is sitting (evening 5pm) with my garage doors facing north the western sun shines directly into the sensor. If I stand and block the sun and create a shade over the sensor the door closes find.
Again as always the doors don't have a problem opening but always closing. My remote still has a very short radio distance trying to open the door from the outside in my car. I have to get out and walk up to the door for it to open : (

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Iinstalled 20 feet of small gage wire connected ted to the antenna wire coming out of the light fixture. Seems like it helped some but I still have to be right in the drive way in front of my garage door before it opens with the remote. I attached the wire from the center of the garage with the light/antenna was exposed, tack the wire from center all the way up front at the top of garage door and them down to the corner of garage door. DIY With Michael Borders it’s a single incandescent bulb. I’ve also gotten new sensors just in case, still a no go. No matter what, I can reset the error and in a couple seconds it starts flashing again without me touching anything or any wires connected.

Thanks for sharing. Your remotes are not working correct?...may need to reprogram your remotes. Are there LED bulbs installed inside garage door unit? Certain brands of LED bulbs will cause interference with your garage door frequencies thus causing symptoms like yours. Keep us posted.

My door will go down until a foot before closing and then opens back up light flashes 10 times. The Eye-beams are clear and clean. door does not get caught up on anything rails are new.

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for watching, there are two common causes that lead to this.
      1. Lock button is turned on. We recommend turning Lock button off. Button is located on wall mounted push button unit & will need to be pushed for 5 seconds for Lock mode to disengage.
      2. Faulty sensor. There are two safety reverse sensors. If one is faulty or unplugged, lights will flicker continuously.
Please keep us posted on your project.

Thanks for watching, let’s get this figured out!
1st: Verify no objects are stuck inside & along track...leaves, acorns, gravel particles...
2nd: Unplug unit from ceiling outlet and leave it unplugged for a minimum of 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, plug unit back in and test garage door unit.

Thanks for watching. In most cases it may be an electrical wiring issue or the actual mount mechanism itself has failed.
We recommend starting with a thorough inspection of all electrical wiring from the wall mount all the way out to the sensors, as well as up to the garage door opener motor unit. Check for any signs of stress, wear & tear along the wires, or any signs of melted wires as a result of overheating or spark/arching.
