300 Years of Lost Things! - Metal Detecting a 1720s Home For Early American Coins & Everyday Relics!

- W've had an amazing year so far metal detecting some of the earliest homes throughout America's northeaast and this stone house is right up there with the best of them! The house goes back to 1720 and the property owner is a local historian and shared a ton of information about the house itself as well as its origin and how it came to be. The original owner came over to the new world around 1715 with limited supplies and him and his family had to live in a cave on the side of a river for 3 years while building the home. They survived in this unknown land with help from the Native Americans throughout their fearless stay in these early years, through brutally cold winters getting food and supplies from their new native friends. Once the home was completed he would open his doors in appreciation so the native people could warm themselves by the fire and get out of the elements themselves. His family grew throughout the years nd settled all througout the county and became a prominent name in this new land, but his house always remainded open in appreciaion for the help he received. An incredible story of bravery and fear and this is the house that started it all. We've been fortunate to get access to metal detect the grounds and see if we can find anything close to the age of the origiana family so the homeowner can display them proudly in the house where they belong. So let's get started and see if we can add first hand peices to match the stories and help this history come alive!

I live in southwest NH! The old man on the mountain is our state mascot! It's on our license plate and drivers license! As someone said earlier, it fell down probably close to 10 years ago now! We are proud of the natural wonder he was!

The Old Man of the Mountain was a natural rock formation that was likely formed after the retreat of glaciers 12,000 years ago. It is essentially the symbol of the State of New Hampshire and appears on the state emblem. It collapsed on May 3, 2003.

The old man of the mountain fell down a few years ago. It's on the state quarter too.
Was 2003 then it fell off. Crazy that it was 20’yrs ago. That token is a great keepsake!

The old man in the mountain was a natural tock formation in the NH mountains. Sadly it collapsed in the early 2000's, it was/is the 'mascot' of the state of NH.

Beautiful early house, one of the many great locations you guys have been fortunate enough to hunt. The finds were incredible for all- looking forward to next week already and hoping Matt can knock off the Classic Head and Liberty Cap LCs and of course Doug needs to get one year earlier and nab that elusive FE!

Franconia is where my grandparents used to live. The old man in the mountains slid off the face a few years ago.
Grey and cold over here in the sticks on my side of the Pond, but never a dull day when I stop for a coffee, turn on my pc, and the latest Quarter Hoarder hunt video alert pops up, just like a real good find signal; Damn fine outing as per..."Meur ras" ( "Thank you"), as we proper old-school 'Celt' Cornish say in our native tongue, to those we like and respect.

Franconia Notch is a famous spot in NH. The old man of the mountain was also an iconic sight, until it collapsed not too long ago. It was such a tourist spot that some people wanted to rectify the old man. It was always assumed, as well, that the old man was a Native American.
I just keep rooting for Doug to get that flying eagle. Us seasoned fellas need to stick together. Lol. Another great video gentlemen. They make my week every week.

Old man of the mountain was featured on the New Nampshire quarte!! CIRCA 1999
He was also on the back of the new Hampshire State quarter. A heavy fog hid the old man and when the fog lifted he was gone.
The Flume is in Fraconia Notch..
Miss the old Man on the mountain...lots other natural beauties in the notch..Boise rock.. lake in the clouds.. artist bluff...the tram car to the top of cannon mt.

We are from New Hampshire too, I remember when the Old Man collapsed back in 2003. Sadly his face now rests in a pile of rubble at the base of Cannon Mountain. Would love to send you guys some Old Man of the Mountain NH highway tokens that are obsolete. Or maybe we will see you at the BONE 31 event?
I've been travelling to Spain, France, and Germany over the last 2 months so I'm behind on the videos but this one was quite a treat! Always funny and the old ringing bell was neat! I really love the new ending you put in recapping all the things you found. I'm going to cuddle up with my BF tonight and catch up all the last few months of excitement!

I have a few newer, but old, tokens from NH and unfortunately the old man has fallen apart over time! Very historic though! Great finds, bummer Doug missed the Eagle again! Beautiful largies and silver, but I sure love the bells! Wicked happy hunting!

I live in Maine about 90 min, from the old man of the mt. and no it is not there anymore . The face was found collapsed on the morning of May 3, 2003. been many times .
