Our Ancestors Needed Better Pockets! - Metal Detecting a Colonial Farm Finds Old Coins & Cool Relics

  • People ask me quite often, why did people lose so many coins, buttons, and other things hundreds of years ago. I usually say that we still drop a lot of coins to this day, and how often will you bend over to pick up a penny you lost. Then there's buttons, buttons were attached differently back then with one metal shank holding the thread where modern buttons have 4 thread holes so that thing ain't going anywhere. Plus out clothing is different, many colonial outfits didn't have pockets so you carried things in satchels or small bags and carried them in your hand all day. Just asking to lose things in my book but they only had what they had. Now hundreds of years later if you have a metal detector and go to a place that had a lot of activity back then you'll have a good chance at finding some of these things like old coins, buttons, buckles, badges, you name it and you'll probably find it. Any that's what we do every week! Now let's jump into this field and see what out forefathers lost!

Awesome outing! Really enjoyable viewing; the content, the commentary and comradery! Fantastic finds!
