It totally depends on you. If you really want to be able to make and receive calls without your phone then its worth it.

Can the wifi model Answer WhatsApp call on wifi? Or does it still need the phone nearby?

Yes it does. Once you are connected to a working Wi-Fi network, you should be able to take WhatsApp calls as well as receive and reply to WhatsApp messages.
