- Reviewing Google's Pixel Watch 2, an upgraded Wear OS wearable that's taking on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, etc. Following an unboxing, I tested the Pixel Watch 2 for around three weeks - but is it one of the best smartwatches of 2023? Well....
In the UK, this new model costs from £349 (add on £50 for the LTE version). Google's Wear OS is as enjoyable as ever, with full Play Store access, while Fitbit Premium serves up a bunch of great mindfulness and fitness sessions. The Pixel Watch 2 can track 40 types of exercise and also monitor stress, temperature etc.
However, it's not all gravy, baby. As with the original smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 2 can only survive a single day between charges. If you want a longer lasting Wear OS device, you'll be better served by a Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro or Ticwatch.
Likewise, the charger is now proprietary and when your Fitbit Premium trial runs out you'll need to stump up £8 a month. So the Pixel Watch 2 is a tough recommendation when you can get longer lasting smartwatches for less cash, with no subscription ties.

As someone who has never used wear OS Thumbs up for explaining how wear os works for day to day notifications.
This is the first video of yours I've watched and it was both informative and entertaining, so thank you. I ordered the pixel watch and then saw a few of the upgrades (battery and health additions) on pixel 2 so ordered that one also, I need to decide if I want to pay the extra £100 now and send the other back - decisions?!
Excellent revew thank you - considering one for Xmas, this told me everything I wanted to know. Your little asides made me laugh out loud loads.
I love mine, battery is vastly improved from the PW1. With AOD I have over 24hour every day even on my GPS outdoor run days / 1 hour with 30-40% left. With the 1 one same usage was down to 5-10%. I change mine to 100 just before bed when taking shower etc. Works great. Battery on par with AW not counting Ultra

I bought the Pixel watch 2 and got a case because I like cases. I've been using them since my fossil Gen 5 and Gen 6.... Cause I sometimes catch door knobs. But I'm used to watches with half day to full day battery life and fast charging with 2 to 4 pogo pins on charge pucks so.... I don't see the problem
Great review as always. I still haven't open the box of my Pixel watch 2 I received for free when I ordered my Pixel 8 Pro. I am already using the TicWatch Pro 5 and love it. I am thinking about selling mine or hold on to it to trade for the Pixel watch 3 where I hope Google finally give consumers a larger watch face option.
Might as well sell and get some cash for it.
I have mine too same get when purchase Pixel 8 pro still not open the box only the deal breaker is small face and not longer battery life. Im still sticking on my Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro.

If you want the health/stress tracking and sleep tracking and do all the other funltions to battery safe mode how long would it last.
The sense 2 lasts about 3-4 days but has half the battery capacity. Shouldn't it be possible to have a better battery life with the watch 2 when using the watch 2 more or less like a sense 2?

Love this watch though, I still have my GW4 Classic but hardly use it. I feel that the GW is really big on my wrist, I surprisingly enjoy the PW size (although it has a case on it too make it look a little bigger) and the software and the smoothness is nice.
I still use my GW for body composition and I do like the physical rotating bezel but other than that I'm loving the pixel watch more.
How long does it last without lighting up all day? There's only info about the battery with the screen always on, and I really don't want yet another screen in my face at all times.
Is the Fitbit subscription mandatory?
Try setting static IP addresses for all your smart home devices and see how much better your controls work 👌

I have a Fitbit Sense and the charging connectivity sucks with the charging cable. I'll sometimes have to waste minutes just to finagle until it says it is charging then slowly back away and not bump it. Based on your comment about the charging cable and from what it looks like, seems to be the same design, which is super sad.

What's the heart rate and blood pressure monitor like ?
I was considering getting one, but now that I know it needs to be charged every day it's a nono for me. My cheap chunky Xiaomi something something lite needs to be recharged every couple of weeks. Of course it has nowhere nearly as much functionality as a PW2, but I guess for now I'm OK my smartwatch only being good for waking me up.
Was this a review or just a listing of all the features?

I don't have one yet. It's a Pixel Watch 2 or a Tic Watch or even a low end Fitbit. Though I'll be honest, I have the Google Fit app and it at least measures my steps. I'm in my 50s and Google fit synchs with my AARP app 😅 I get points for walking! I guess it saves on Medicare! Haha great review and you made great points. I wish it lasted at least 4 days on regular raise to see the screen mode. At over $300 to only last a day or so with for $80 or so a Fitbit lasts a week almost? The Pixel watches are shiny tech while the Fitbit is practical and does some of the same things. I'll probably stick to my Google fit app for now though but i love watching your videos!

They need to make these watches bigger I currently use a garmin fenix 7x which is 51mm and still looks small on my wrist.

I bought my Google Pixel 2 watch at teh start of January and this week the microphone stopped working! I can't use Google Assistant on my watch (though couldn't use it at all for that) and now I can't use it for phonecalls because no one on the other end can hear me. Any ideas how to fix this?

What is best way have always on screen on but not so it drain battery so fast
I just can't do the charging every day. I have an e ink garmen and it lasts like 2 weeks. Good enough, can sync to my peloton for heart rate, notifications etc.

You called the Ticwatch 5 pro the best of the bunch a while ago. How does it stack up now vs this and the Xiaomi watch?

The first pixel watch could only charge with its own charger also. Tried with my phone, it starts for about 2 secs then stops.
My watch (pw2) will charge fine with the included charging cable connected to pixel phone.
I haven't watched the whole video yet, but has anyone encountered random reboots on their pixel watch 2? Any solutions?

It's not my favourite launcher - little things like not being able to drag down the notifications bar from anywhere on your desktops are quite annoying, and it can be a little buggy too

I'm still a little bit undecided between this and the Ticwatch, but great video!
I was doubting the same and decided in favour of the PW2 because:
- Cleaner software with less bloatware
- Consistent software updates (and first on that)
- Much more accurate data in heart and GPS
- Google Assistant
- (subjective) nicer looking
In favour of the TicWatch 5 Pro:
- Battery life
- Cheaper (less than 300€ during Black Friday)
Is there a smartwatch that function well as a phone replacement? I feel like there are situations when that might come in handy.
This one has LTE if you pay extra so it works as an extension of your phone should you not have your phone on you

@eastonator1 no I think your right i think all the high end flagship non Chinese dual sim watches all piggy back off the phone for calls.
I have had mine since October and I get compliments on it daily. I see so many negative comments about the fact that it's small but The vast majority of feedback that I get while out is that people love how small it is in comparison to other watches
I had the PW1 for about a year. I was happy with it. Sure, battery life wasn't amazing but for me it wasn't an issue. I charged in short bursts during showering and when doing the dishes. The only time I had to be mindful is when I'm away from home for a weekend or something. The proprietary charger was a bummer at first as I kept forgetting it. I got around it by buying a 2nd charger and keeping it in my tech bag. Even after a full year I wasn't iching to upgrade it. That is until I got a free PW2 with my 8 Pro.
The upgrade to the first gen was surprisingly substantial. I think I notice the performance boost the most. On the PW1 when you finished a workout it'd hang ever so slightly. This is now instant on the PW2. Battery life does seem better but that was never an issue for me with the PW1.
In terms of durability, my PW1 held up well. The one scuff it has on the screen was me banging it against a concrete wall by accident. Other than that the screen and casing look like new. I'm hoping I don't make the same mistake with the PW2 and keep it looking new for even longer!
All in all, quite happy with the PW2. I don't think I would've gotten it if I didn't get one for free though. I think the new perforated bands are a better "upgrade" for PW1 users, unless of course you're having issues with your PW1.

I have that annoying hang also. Started happening about 4 months back (probably after an upgrade). Any workout 30 mins+ (or somewhere around that) I cannot stop the workout. It just hangs and is super frustrating. I have to run the extra .25 miles and keep hitting it 30 times before it finally stops

Is the speaker still really garbage and tinny? Hoping for a bigger model so they can fit better next year, a lot of reviews on pixel watch one seemed quite bad for calls.

Most of those are just not very good at anything or only do fitness tracking. The branded ones have a more fleshed out OS, far better compatibility, full on apps like Google Maps and better fitness tracking overall
Onr thing to note for uk, o2 doesnt support the LTE watch.

I got it for free with my Pixel 8 Pro. But I kind of hoped to be able to sell it for 300€. But since everyone got one they're going for 200€. At that point I'm thinking is it even worth selling? Shall I keep it or sell it for 200€?
Keep it. It will go well with your Google ecosystem 👍Google Account phone and watch. You can do extra things other Google users don't get. New Google maps features camera features ect 👍
You won't get much for it as I just bought one on eBay and the seller only used it twice. I paid £129 for it. Wasn't going to pay over £150 for it. My Google pixel 1st Jen cost my £150 brand new. But I know I will only get £50 at the most for it.

Still struggle to see the point in these things. Google sent me an email saying £150 off but after looking at what it can do I'm left wondering why I would bother? Step counter? Thats on my phone? Google Assistant? On my phone?
If you don't workout then only to see your notifications, answer, calls and stuff like that
I've been wearing mine for a week now and am still pretty on the fence about how small it is... The screen is really small and if you're 185 or taller and wear normal watches. I did pick up a nice heavy metal band and that's helped significantly. It's SO much better than the last time I tried a smart watch (Skagen Falster 1). I'll be keeping this one in the rotation for sure.

Been waiting for your review on this wee pebble of a watch, it would suit my stick insect wrists for sure, but having to charge daily would just get right on my tubby tubas, the Pixel watch 3 seriously needs to at least last longer than a plate swallowing bird can fly to Skegness (two days if you wanted to know). I'm still completely confused as to which watch to buy, probably just end up scribbling a watch on my wrist with some chubby chalks and be done with it.

I learned two things while watching this video, one is that this watch is still an option against going over to apple and the other is that eating three handfuls of Jelly beans makes me feel sick.
Just ordered mine 2nd hand on eBay for £129. I hope it's better than the Google pixel 1st jen. I'm a fan on Google watches. I bought the very first Google watch all those years ago. Then they never updated it. Do sadly couldn't use it anymore. Just bought the amazfit watches which was no where near as good as Google. But thrn Google indeed bring out it's pixel watch. It was good. But still not as good as the first Google watch that came out. Just hope the pixel 2 is the perfect match. We will see.

No, they've filed a patent but the feature isn't on this watch
The other blood pressure reading watches are pretty useless though, you need to calibrate with a real blood pressure cuff every month and monthly blood pressure measurements are a lot more frequent than is recommended for nearly anyone so knowing what it is day to day in between these monthly calibrations doesn't provide much
My Huawei watch battery lasts 14 days. Could not imagine charging everyday 😮
Doesn’t really do as much; there’s no app support. I’ve seen the app selection for Huawei watches and they are borderline useless, so yeah a “dumber” watch is going to last longer.

Just got one today to keep my phone away from me, so far it is working really well. LTE so my phone can get far away from me.

Mine sucks!!! Having a lot of problems with notifications sounds (LTE model). I've done everything and the only way it works if if I restart. Same with many problems with GPS tracking and the "always on display" . They just stop working unless I restart. I have factory reset it 2 times and have contacted Google support but they have since gone silent and ghosted me. How hard it it for a trillion dollar company to warranty a $300 piece of tech? Oh...and the watch face scratches very easily...be careful!

Everyone uses the watch differently. I don't use the always on display and I DONT want every little phone notification to buzz on my wrist either so I keep it on silent. I just flick the wrist to show the time etc. My watch lasts 48hrs between charging for my everyday use. I'd say I'm a light user though. Came from using a sub $40 Wyze watch that lasted over a week on one charge so to me 2 days is kinda meh as well.. This watch tracks SO MUCH more though so I understand. Decent though, got it for free with my pixel purchase so hey, why not?
Might as well get a analog watch at that point.
@@ChristopherPoitras Not really, it still tracks my sleep, steps, any workouts and weight (integrated scale with Fitbit) etc so it does a lot. I just don't need to know all the notifications coming from apps etc.
