I’d love to see Forgotten Weapons do another mud test video with this. If it’s comparable in reliability to the Hellion, it would be one of the more expensive bullpups on the market but it would worth the premium.
Now if you could incorporate the QUATTRO-15 magazine well into the sabretooth model, WOW, that would be even more innovation. I love all the products you all have made as a company and hope to own some of your products in the future.
This video does an excellent job explaining everything I wanted it to and really answers all my questions. I'm very happy to see the improvements made to the platform and hope they end up materializing in the real world.
I have always loved the look of the MDR, recently got to shoot one and I was saving to get one as my next rifle. Think I might spring for the WLVRN instead with its improvements. Definitely Dream gun material; beautiful work
This was a very bad surprise. This company went from making the only good bull pup ever made to just making a unusable range toy like all other toy bull pups. This new gun is a massive step backwards.
@@robertsears8323 The popular service bullpups are all side eject... AUG, VHS-2, Tavor... I'm no operator, but I'm guessing in life or death situations, I wouldn't mind the love kiss from brass shooting off-hand if it means the rifle is lighter, magnitudes more reliable, quicker to clear malfunctions, easier to brass check the chamber.
Glad to see these new products benefiting from all of your R&D. Really hoped you guys would capitalize on the interest in bullpups by making a bullpup lower that will fit any mil spec AR upper. Imagine a Desert Tech bullpup universal lower that accepts Quattro magazines. Man! That would rule.
I appreciate you publishing this video quickly, even if production values were slightly less. Especially for those of us who (intentionally) purchased heavily into the MDR-X (Gen2) knowing the limitations. Engineering breakdowns especially. The "barrel block" screws were a community note of consternation. Iteration is normal in product design. But proper support and warranty follow-through of prior designs is also appreciated (and sets tone for future).
As a prior serving Marine and former weapons instructor while serving, I have slowly and begrudgingly been drawn to bullpups. I am a supporter and fan of the IDF and their main rifle, which is a bullpup. There are many options out there, however, it took me a while to stumble upon Desert Tech and the MRDX and learn this is an American bullpup manufacturer. I have yet to acquire a bullpup to add to my loadout options. However, after thoroughly researching all the manufacturers, I know that I want an American made rifle. Desert Tech like any company has had success and challenges. The thing that sticks out to me about DT, they NEVER down play issues and concerns from their consumers. They appear to be upfront and transparent about the evolutionary steps they've taken to make consistent improvements of each iteration of their bullpup based on user feedback. That is uncommon in the firearms manufacturing industry. I liked what I saw in the MRDX with a few reservations, however, I think the WLVRN may have pushed me over the edge to acquire my first bullpup with the intention of making it my main rifle load out option. The sheer shortness of bullpups by default is a huge advantage without a reduction in barrel length, maintaining the potential for maximizing intended powder burn.
I love how y’all simplified the design and eliminated some parts. Sad to see the forward ejection go, as I think it was a really cool feature, but it’s understandable. Oh man that full auto is a thing of beauty, basically no recoil and an excellent cyclic rate. Well done! 👍🏻
Love the shirt! The forward eject was a neat idea, also proof that not all good ideas are marketing successes. I can see why the military wasn't big on it, it is not grunt proof.
Looking forward to this hitting the market. I've always wanted an MDRx, but looks like being patient has rewarded me with a further improved platform. If only those quad-stack mags could fit lol.
We at LEPUS210 are more than a little excited for this launch. We have been waiting a long time for Desert Tech to bring us the next generation rifle for our nations future! Congratulations gentlemen!
To cut weight even more, release ultra light version with skeleton frame, or near skeleton cuts, and heavy profile deep fluted barrel. Titanium rod for gas piston.
Some pins and small parts can also switch to cast or milled aluminum. Extra cost, but some will pay for ultra light versions. Especially when decked with accessories and rigs that will add weight for all day use.
A little bummed that my MDRx is getting phased out, but I'm really glad to see the improvements and evolutions the platform is getting overall. All you need to do is get Magpul's fancy computer scope and we'll finally have the UNSC's service rifle.
The forward eject is a brilliant concept, maybe a bit too far ahead of it's time. I assume it would be difficult to manage the varying pressure loads without electronic venting assistance. Don't give up on it, as technology should catch up in the future. Secondly, the multi calibre chassis aspect may benefit LE/military logistically as they would be able to transport up to 4x as many conversion kits per firearm, saving on weight and space.
I'm really excited for this weapon system however it's kinda messed up to know that the current hand guard doesn't hold zero but continue to use it anyway while hiding the improved model behind another pay wall on an already expensive rifle especially when it comes stock on the Mil/LE model. It would also be nice to have that anti bounce feature on the civilian guns but it could be an ATF reason stopping that regardless it's great to see further innovation in the firearms world and I one day hope to see this become as big as the AR
You have made amazing efforts in engineering these @DesertTechUT now please refine the human aspect before you launch it in Q2. If the grip is AR compatible and cheek rest is more adjustable / plush, this would become a much more friendlier package for operators.
Posting here too in hopes of getting seen-- I had to bump my MDRx review to release this morning since the WLVRN will replace it at SHOT. Idea for using the QMAG53s with bullpups... consider using cable linkages rather than solid bars. The AN94 used cables in its mechanism, and maybe the lower intensity use-case for steel cables actuating mag releases or triggers would allow more flexibility around the wider magazine in a way the bars can't. Thanks for all you do!
Few things more enjoyable than seeing people fail at something, overlook the negativity, focus on the criticism and turn said failure into a redemption. 👏👏👏 Too early to tell, but I suspect this will be wildly successful.
I guess it's harder to scale manufacturing with smaller/larger frames, but it would be cool to see how light and mobile a dedicated 5.56 would be. Appreciate the openness of communication!
I have a SBRed MDRx. Is there any path for me to get access to future developments and design features of the WLVRN on my current receiver? For example sending my gun in for a conversion. If not it kind of seems like this is abandoning the early adopters.
@DesertTechUT is there no way to further lighten the MDRx line? Accurizing upgrades is nice, and I appreciate that, but I also just SBRd a Micron recently and feel a bit let down with my timing
I like everything that was done to improve the Desert Tech bullpups. However, there's a few things, in my opinion, that could make this rifle even better. Using the IWI Tavor 7 as an example. The ambi ejection ports can be changed on the fly, in seconds. THAT should be incorporated. Secondly, and this is not a minor thing. Spring loaded charging handles. Having them stick out can be an issue in CQB, room clearing operations. I didn't hear your say anything about a gas selector. I hope there is a selector for suppressed and unsuppressed. Is the safe/fire selector switches replaceable? Finally, the MLOK rails should be standard on all your bullpups. Anything else is just playing with your customer base. Everything I mentioned is easy to remedy. They should be remedied. The WLVRN and Sabertooth are very nice. They're on the cusp of being perfect. Everything I mentioned would be easy to accomplish. I truly hope you consider these suggestions. Thank you for all you do. Desert Tech Bullpups are a fun platform to shoot. Without the improvements that I suggested, I would not take them into a hostile situation. Not yet. You're very close.
Thanks for your feedback. The rifles have 6-position adjustable gas valves. They all have mlok too. Changing ejection side is very simple and fast but requires a tool to do. Charging handle are locked forward and must be pulled downward before you can pull them backwards which will help prevent malfunctions from them being bumped, a folding option would have been nice but with current sized constraints then the one piece charging handle was much stronger.
@@DesertTechUT Thank you for your reply and info. The only thing(s) left then is to adopt the Tavor 7 ejection method...which does not require any tools, One last, and minor, thing. I am a southpaw. I don't mind that the bolt catch/release is on the left side. Maybe use something like the Geissele Maritime Bolt Catch which offers more real estate for me when I reach under to operate the bolt catch/release. It's minor, but for a southpaw, it would help in a combat/fire fight situation. Or...just make the raised area around the bolt catch a wider rectangular shape. I'm a 20+ year LEO and I really like where you're going with this. Please consider my suggestions. Southpaws would appreciate it.

I am super impressed with the WLVRN, I had the chance to shoot one and it was my 3rd bullpup I’ve shot including the Tavor and the Kel-Tec RDB. I liked the Tavor and wasn’t a fan of the RDB but the Desert Tech was great! The trigger is impressive for a bullpup and the modularity was something I really liked with the conversion kits. I’m very close to buying one and converting it to the 11.5” Micron with the kit as well as getting a .308 conversion kit for it. Keep up the great work fellas, I hope bullpups start gaining more popularity in the US and the development keeps improving! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
Why are there no half-pups like the WW2 German FG-42 and the M-60 that followed? Put the Quattro on a half-pup to replace the Marines IAR. No forward ejection needed. Better balance. Shorter overall length. More space for recoil like the Ultimax or Surefire MGX. That handguard and bipod is already slick for an IAR. The Quattro would be perfect for the Surefire MGX too.

Glad it was helpful!
Man those are slick. The MDR carries me through the early wipe of Tarkov and ive always wanted to own one.
I have always loved the look of the MDR, recently got to shoot one and I was saving to get one as my next rifle. Think I might spring for the WLVRN instead with its improvements. Definitely Dream gun material; beautiful work
4:13 how can you not love this guy?
Easy. I’m left handed
This company keeps surprising me, even after all those years❤
This was a very bad surprise.
This company went from making the only good bull pup ever made to just making a unusable range toy like all other toy bull pups.
This new gun is a massive step backwards.
@@robertsears8323 It seems like they just made a lot of improvements. How is it a step backwards from the MDR?
@@robertsears8323 how so? changing the ejection direction to well known and understood way of doing things is a good thing
Me too but not in good ways.
We will make sure that we have good support for the MDR and MDRX product
Wow. The innovation never stops. 👍
You got that right!
I love how y’all simplified the design and eliminated some parts. Sad to see the forward ejection go, as I think it was a really cool feature, but it’s understandable. Oh man that full auto is a thing of beauty, basically no recoil and an excellent cyclic rate. Well done! 👍🏻
This is incredible on alot of engineering levels! Appreciate you sharing!
Love the shirt! The forward eject was a neat idea, also proof that not all good ideas are marketing successes. I can see why the military wasn't big on it, it is not grunt proof.
So now I have to sell my MDRX with both .556 and .308 to get this. You should offer an upgrade program!
Excellent and sincere review on two advanced compact and powerful bullpups. Peace
The DMR WLVRN would be absolutely of interest! Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹 😀
Super glad to hear you guys keep developing and refining this platform
Looking forward to this hitting the market. I've always wanted an MDRx, but looks like being patient has rewarded me with a further improved platform. If only those quad-stack mags could fit lol.
Definitely would love to T&E one of these guys !
You guys are totally awesome.
That’s funny as hell, I purchased an MDRX yesterday, I am glad to see new weapons systems but hope you continue support the mdrx.
I want a wlvrn...I don't really have a need or a place to shoot it...but I still want it...awesome....
A little bummed that my MDRx is getting phased out, but I'm really glad to see the improvements and evolutions the platform is getting overall. All you need to do is get Magpul's fancy computer scope and we'll finally have the UNSC's service rifle.
I love it and btw screw all the haters just keep doing you.
When I decide to get a bullpup ill be supporting this new version. I like to see innovation and support US companies
great! new handguard design, finally!
Glad you like it!
That control during one hand full auto is sweet
Nick is like your friend's dad who shows you things you shouldnt see yet cause hes so excited XD
PAUSE
I love the new innovations I see a bullpup in my future
The forward eject is a brilliant concept, maybe a bit too far ahead of it's time. I assume it would be difficult to manage the varying pressure loads without electronic venting assistance. Don't give up on it, as technology should catch up in the future.
Secondly, the multi calibre chassis aspect may benefit LE/military logistically as they would be able to transport up to 4x as many conversion kits per firearm, saving on weight and space.
Wolverine and Sabre-tooth! Like what you guys did there! 😉
Also the cam pin should be a roller cam pin like the design that POF uses in their bolt carriers. That will increase smoothness.
Excited to get my hands on the WLVRN.
Congratulations on releasing the new rifle’s. They seem very impressive
I ended up dropping my preorder back in 2016 due to the delays, but looks like I might be getting an MDR (WLVRN) after all. Love my SRS A2.
Yes please
Your shorter bullpup rifles should have a whole-hand guard option, like a Tavor.
Excellent video -- answered all my questions! Needless to say I want one (with all the conversions and accessories).
Good to hear!
It's smart to rebrand into a "new" platform. I hope it competes well in the market!
very cool. i think im ready to take a second look at desert tech
Few things more enjoyable than seeing people fail at something, overlook the negativity, focus on the criticism and turn said failure into a redemption. 👏👏👏
Too early to tell, but I suspect this will be wildly successful.
These improvements look great! I'm really impressed by all of the innovation coming from Desert Tech!
The smile on your face says it all. I know I am gonna love mine. 308. All day!
I can't wait to get my hands on one!
I guess it's harder to scale manufacturing with smaller/larger frames, but it would be cool to see how light and mobile a dedicated 5.56 would be. Appreciate the openness of communication!
Been waiting for this ever since the military contract attempt ( dod already picked before companies submitted).
I love to see the weight come down on these rifles. Great job!
I have a SBRed MDRx. Is there any path for me to get access to future developments and design features of the WLVRN on my current receiver? For example sending my gun in for a conversion. If not it kind of seems like this is abandoning the early adopters.
It is possible to offer the new piston and guide rod to improve accuracy and the stock panel upgrade for more positive magazine retention.
I too have a fully kitted out MDRx that would love some upgrades that were mentioned@@DesertTechUT
Roger on the ejection port. The bolt catch/release is on the bottom so its the same access from right and left sides.
Love that sd style hand guard!
Will there be a 300blk Micron available?
I’ve been waiting to get my first bullpup, and you guys are at the top of my list now. Can’t wait to see what production looks like
Don't buy IWI you'll be happier with the reliability I have mdrx which is shit
I like these videos. They are definitely getting better. I really like what Desert Tech has been doing, and I'm excited to see these new versions getting into the wild.
Glad to hear it!
Also would love to see a brand new weapon configurator for the WLVRN that gets constant updates for new parts and is a proper 3D model we can inspect, would be very cool and give users the ability to truly decide what parts they do and don’t want
Sad to see the forward eject go, but understandable.
I really hope that this thing at least has an effective brass deflector.
Brass in the face sucks.
Also I wish more companies would use an AR style dust cover.
Also does this new rifle feature a forward assist?
Hi, you did a good and informative presentation, wich I realy liked and enjoyed! Now I'm heading to your homepage to see what I want. After seeing this your company and your products jumped to NR 1 on my list! Well done. Br from Sweden.
Thanks! My grandfather is from Sweden. 👍🏻
Sad to see the FE go but on balance its probably a good change. Ive been waiting in the wings to see these improvements, especially to accuracy/reliability, and am glad to see DT taking customer feedback and continuing to innovate with their product. I look forward to seeing the 3rd party reviews, hopefully this will be the year i can finally justify buying one
Owned the first Gen MDR and loved it. Excited about what you guys are doing! Keep it up!
Sounds amazing. Cant wish wait to get my b hands on one
I want that DMR Wolverine in 6.5 CM. The only competition I’m considering is the Scar 20s in 6.5 CM. Desertech is currently building my HTI in Barrett 416 and just waiting for the shipping notification to my FFL.
Thank you for a tighter clamp hand guard for holding zero on lasers. I can’t get to get a Wolverine and glad I never got a MDRX (even though I wanted to) don’t regret it one bit! Hopefully pricing is similar if not the same
I really hope to see a bullpup 12 gauge shotgun from Desert Tech in the future! I'm a huge fan and I'm looking forward to owning the HTI & WLVRN but I would really like to match up a shotty with them! There are not many options currently and I think Desert Tech could really change the game & take that market by a long shot! I see them being a good move either way!!
When can I expect to see the 20-in DMR version in Canada
I would love to see a complete Trek-22 rifle as the second generation.
Maybe work with Fletcher and their open top 11/22 to make it easier to clean, plus a metal rail for a more rugged zero.
I’m only two minutes and 25 seconds into the video and you’re already making me want to buy one I don’t own a bull pup but this sounds exciting
So are you guys going to offer a version in 277 fury? It seems like it would fit but i know the pressure requirements would be much higher.
I don’t know yet.
That grin is just priceles.
Love seeing how far this platform has come!
Btw, I believe Wylde is pronounced “wild” like wildlife.
I hope that the availability of calibers like 8.6 blk and a video on how a suppressor can affect the function
