And I have yet to hear any real negative. Some feeding issues but I don’t think they were using the cones breach on .223 barrels they already had and decided to try, is about it. Seems the hype has lived up so far.
I will stick to my BAT machine actions. I have seen and handled the American Rifle Grace action, and I can tell you in my opinion and several friends that own them the BAT's are in a higher quality, function and just a completely better action. But still the ARC is a good action.
To be honest I’ve never ran a Krag action. But I have a zermatt origin and a lone peak fusion and it’s as smooth as either of those! Audio may be a bit misleading, it is definitely smooth! If you watch my video on the solus that action is not as smooth as I had hoped. This one however is very nice!
Man! Everything you have touched on, I have had the same problems with a magnum long action I received. I have tinkered with all issues, and I was abel to move forward and make this rifle work. I feel you on the smoothness. It is a beautiful action, and it slides like butter. But then the issues. I installed a preferred barrels 300 PRC and the barrel/action just looks like a million bucks!!
I own a couple of Nucleus actions, good stuff. Been looking forward to this one. Says alot when MPA has switched to this action for their rifles as well.

The benefit of his 3 lug with an "aw" mag is the lug at open/ feed is at 6:00 versus using the other mag, or lug positioning on other bolts or the other handle. Have a good day young man. Respectfully, Seth
If they can match the bolt smoothness of a Tikka I might be interested. The Tikka IMO is the smoothest action except for a ‘98 Oberndorf Mauser, or totally custom job, there is. Wait, the Tikka is just as smooth. My only negative is I wish it was a three position safety.
It is already slightly smoother than my tikka, it’s not quite as smooth as my loan peak to me, but that’s all pretty subjective on my part. Point is that it’s well made and they know what they’re doing. I’ve never owned a 3 position safety rifle but I can definitely see the benefit for hunting.
@@titan_codes I just went to Lone Peak. The action alone is more than a complete Tikka and it’s a custom in my book. I was just generalizing about customs and Tikkas. I’ve not handled a Lone Peak so……….
@@ShootingTheBC I’m loving the action, not as smooth as the falkor but it’s still breaking in. Got it in a 6GT IBI barrel and it’s impressive. The one thing about the action is that the DLC on the bolt does wear off in a few spots pretty quickly, I’m not sure if you or othe CDG users are seeing that.
I only ran it in my hand and so far had zero wear on the bolt, I think all the coatings wear off as the process hardens the metal so it’s still got the slick feel even if the black wears off. My origin has the black worn off all over but is still super slick!
I'm sure this is a nice action. What really pisses me off is the fact that ARC has pretty much dropped ALL support for the other actions. I have 2 Nucleus Gen 2s, one less than a year old, and need new bolt heads for different cartridges. Can't get any. This forces me to look elsewhere for an action the company I choose to go with will actually support. I could buy the Coup De Grace, especially if I plan to find a different action to replace these nucleus gen 2s. However, I will not be forced to buy the Coup De Grace because ARC decided to forget about the other actions in it's lineup. It would be my luck ARC will drop support for the Coup De Grace in less than a year also and then I'm really screwed. Never again ARC, never again. I'll find a company that will actually support their products....
It was my understanding they were still supporting all their previous actions and even still producing nukes and mausingfield. I’ll have to look into this because this is a real major concern if they are not! Is it possible they are just out of stock currently? Their website still has them for sale with one size being out of stock at the moment. That will be a huge deal breaker if they aren’t going to support their products down the line.
Glad I found this comment because this is the exact reason I’m watching this video. I just got off the phone with them and they said they have no plans in the immediate future to make nucleas actions that’s why you can’t even back order them. They wouldn’t give me a date so I asked a very long time and they said yes. Kinda bummed cuz I was pretty set on a nucleas 2 even ordered my grayboe inletted for it. Watching this video right now to decide what route I wanna go for a dangerous game gun build.
Well the good news is that grayboe is a universal inlet. They post specific actions so you know it’s a clone of a rem 700, but any 700 clone will drop in the grayboe, they don’t actually inlet them differently. I can maybe see why they would stop producing that action when the CDG is better and cheaper, but I really hope they don’t stop supporting their previous actions, that will absolutely turn a lot of people off of them! Go with the CDG over the nuke though, it’s superior in every way except possibly bolt stop durability. Possibly.
@@ShootingTheBC - I'm sure what's going to happen is all the parts they have on the shelves will be sold and they won't produce any more. I've been looking at this "Right hand, 0.473" bolt heads and extractors are currently out of stock. Est. in stock 2-3 months. We are not able to take backorders at this time." for the last 7 months. Need both a 473 and a 535. Can't get them and something tells me I won't be able to. I think I now know why this last action is called the Coup De Grace. Maybe it really is the end for ARC and it will be by their own hand. I wouldn't count on the Coup De Grace getting support for to long. Look what they've done to the rest of the line up. The Archimedes and Nucleus are basically gone. Horrible business practice.
After having too many failures of ARC components during matches, I'll never give them another dime of my money. I have a 1st Gen Nucleus that has had light primer strikes. My buddies 1st Gen Nucleus just straight up quit during a match due to light primer strikes. I've never been able to get my nucleus to actually control round feed. Now to get reliable ignition, my bold lift is terrible. Their mags are great as long as you replace the internals. Went with an origin, and it just works.
I know they had a stretch of trouble with some releases. It definitely seems like a more involved/tinkering required setup. I’m currently trying to get the right mag latch length to work with aics while I wait for my AW mags to come. Sometimes thinking outside of the box sacrifices ease of use I guess. For all mechanical ejectors, u have to have it positioned right for the bolt to go in. Also like most once u have the gun built and upright it will be a non issue. Just keep that in the back of your mind and never force it. This action is going to give the origin which I have and love a run for its money. And will blow the aero out of the water.

@ShootingTheBC Since u have the Origin, what is your opinion on the CDG vs the origin. I love my origin and if I had to be picky, I wish the bolt had a little less slop, it is buttery smooth and that means more, but a few thousandths less slop when the bolt is back would be nice. I also wish there were more rail options than just 20 moa, and I wish the bolt coating would last longer, I would say after 500rds, there was significant coating wear. I talked to Zermatt ,who has incredible customer service, and he said they coating was used to make it as smooth as it is, but it wears easily.
My bolt has hd the coating wear off quite a bit from my origin. I can’t really say yet to compare the two beyond initial impressions. I will say the origin is a solid action! The fact that the CDG has integral rail and recoil lug is huge though! I swap barrels a ton on my origin and I’m getting tired of the pinned lug. Zermatts customer service is absolutely top tier! I emailed them at 5 am one day about the lug pin deforming and they had a baggie of them in the mail by 9 am! Super impressed. I so far would give the tip slightly to CDG but again I haven’t shot it so the most important part is yet to be compared.
I have the same 260 barrel for my origin that was in previous videos. I’m debating getting another for this action as well as the one I’m having spun up by my smith
I don’t know for sure, but it seems like they’ve gotten caught up for the most part with the initial rush, or at least close to it! You won’t regret buying this one!
I am still in the fence with my barrel from them. I plan to do a comparison with it in my origin action and my gunsmith spun up 6.5 creed on this platform.

Pretty sure that for reasons of reliable feeding, a controlled round feed actions need a conical breech because, unlike a push feed action, the round is held by the extractor and isn't floating in the receiver. Having a coned breech gives guidance to help the cartridge move under the tension of the extractor and center itself as it goes into the chamber. It's a trade-off... a flat breech works with a push feed but the round has to be loose and uncontrolled in the receiver for it to feed reliably. Push feeds are more reliable if the action is worked quickly (why semi- and full-auto actions are push feed), but at human speeds controlled round feed is more reliable and especially so if the bolt is cycled with the rifle at an angle from horizontal and level.
I don’t have experience with a model 70, but I do not believe it has an integral rail, huge aftermarket support or tight tolerances that allow prefit barrels to be made. So it would probably come down to what do you consider better? I’ve heard good things about the model 70, but it is not a modern action with modern features. If you shoot 20-100 rds a year you’ll never see or know any difference I don’t think. The model 70 definitely seems like a superior action of its time that just didn’t takeoff, almost like 260 rem not really doing much and being over looked and overshadowed by the 6.5 Creedmoor. Wrong question you are asking there! They all need the safety factor of exhaust ports. They opted for looks of clean lines vs safety as a marketing tool. Make NO mistake about this issue of Safety. I was wearing safety glasses when the case head separated, otherwise, I may have lost an eye.
Did your action have a relief port? I honestly don’t know how many do or how much it helps with safety. I’ll have to look more into that, maybe ask a few action mfg about it as well.
The side binding is minimal and feels pretty much like my lone peak action. Sure if you apply pressure at almost 90 degrees it will bind but normal side loading while working the bolt it does not at all
Looks impressive. The best part is the fixed ejector. SAKO really disappointed me with the 90. I wish they'd make the extractor a bit wider. The handle is a matter of taste for me. Personally, I'd go for a large ball AI-style one. For me, the best type of handle is the one that's part of the bolt itself.
Would like to see a 6.5CM /6GT prefit ,very interested to see the action in action ,Im in New Zealand and would love to do a custion build ,but need something absolutely bullet proof over here ,havent got the luxury of resources you guys are spoilt with.
Having no personal experience with the ruckus I can’t say definitively, but I do know it shares a Remington 700 footprint and trigger, integral rail and lug. That’s probably about it. 3 lug vs 2 lug, this has control round feeding, floating bolt head etc. As far as quality goes, I do think this is very high quality, and I know defiance has a reputation of being high quality. For $500-$600 difference, if you like the features of the CDG I think its a no brainer! Again I’ve never owned a defiance and have only held a ruckus for a minute or two. The Ruckus is more traditional. 90* Bolt throw, no gimmicks. Smooth & integrated lug/rail. ARC has a large list of features, and high quality workmanship. It really just depends on what you are looking for. Both are top shelf actions, along with Impact, Lone Peak, Zermatt, etc. I personally run a Ruckus in an ARC chassis. Defiance went out of their way to take extremely good care of me with my Tenacity, so I will continue to run their actions. By the same token Ted (owner) at ARC picked up the phone, took my order and made sure I got a few extra pieces needed for my ARC chassis. Would not hesitate to do business with either company.
I would not be able to answer that as I have zero experience with benchrest. It is my understanding that typical benchrest rifles are single shot to increase the rigidity of the action and increase accuracy. I don't know what bolt tolerance you are referring to nor would I know if it is acceptable for benchrest. My guess is going to be no though lol
Seems like a lot of "stuff" going on with this thing. If you want to run pre-fits, I'd go with Lone Peak Arms Fuzion. I like simple actions. Less to go wrong. Less to fuss with. My favorite action is the Defiance Deviant Tactical because it just works. Defiance primary extraction is great. One-piece rail, action, lug, etc. And you can customize all the features if you want. But if you want to run pre-fits, I like the Fuzion a lot. I've tried the 737r as well but not my thing. All the innovations on the ARC stuff are cool on paper, but meh... they don't get you anything in practice when you're actually shooting. Controlled round feed is cool, but I've literally never had an issue with more traditional custom 700 actions in 10 years.
The biggest thing in my opinion with this action is you’re getting all that for almost half the price of some of those other actions! Sure it’s not the same quality, I live my lone peak, but Amman for $900 it does a whole lot especially for those wanting to try their hand at a custom action! Thanks for commenting
Only one glaring flaw with this design. The bolt body is round. That creates inconsistent twisting Under Fire due to Barrel whip. This has been a known problem with Remington 700 actions for decades. Square bolt bodies have always had a natural advantage over round ones. They are naturally stiffer and resist the inconsistent twisting imparted by the physics of firing the round down the barrel.
This is probably true for benchrest level of accuracy. I’ve heard BAT make similar claims for flat bottom actions. For tactical/field shooting, I honestly don’t think there’s enough to tell the difference. The top actions in the PRS are all round actions, round bolts. When you’re trying to shrink .2 inch groups to .05 inch groups I’m sure that’s the type of thing you look at though!
The slot in the bolt for the bolt stop is not new it has done back in the 60's and 70's by several companies as far as the piviting bolt handle its only needed cause you cant get enough primarily extraction in a 3 lug cause there is not enough travel to have optional primary.
@@ShootingTheBC primary extraction is dictated by bolt lift travel and helix in locks and lugs. Shorter throw bolts like 60 deg. and 70 deg. Have less primary extraction vrs 90 deg.( Like your typical 2 lug actions ) its part of the problems of 3 lug actions. That and typical surface drag. With out slick surface coating cause most 3 lugs to be rougher but create a false sence of bolt lift making it difficult to sence higher load pressures.
FYI All ejectors are “mechanical” Some are fixed, and some are spring plungers. But all are mechanical. And red knob matching the red trigger hanger that no one will see?? Your bolt stop ejector combo bolt reassembly issue is the same on all fixed ejector actions. I guess you’ve never played with a Mauser?

@@ShootingTheBC Why not use the terms that have been used since the advent of the Remington 700. Fixed ejectors were called fixed blade ejectors or manual ejectors, the Remington 700 style was a Spring plunger ejector or an automatic ejector.

These kids designing actions forget that this stuff was figured out and named in 1890's. What's being done today is fixing all the corners Remington cut in the 1960's to compete with the original Winchester model 70 The best commercial action ever made. Comercial action. Not these custom and semi custom actions that are light years ahead of a 1960's technology.

The primary extraction is not done at bolt rotation, so if you get a slightly stuck case , it’s a lever instead of hitting the bolt knob up to get it to extract. Also because of that, it makes it extremely smooth on closing as well.

Yes I have the matrix and the lite, amazing chassis! The ba comp is great as well. I know a couple top competitors use mpa with aw mags exclusively. I haven’t tried them yet though with AW mags.
I love the fact you are staying with the 260 as far as I can see they all are just wanabees there is something that is equal to or better than all the new stuff as far as speed the twist and the long bullets are kind of advancements
@@ShootingTheBC An update would be good since Tikka actions are consistent enough for prefit barrels, it would be pretty disappointing for a custom action to be less consistent than a factory one...
One of the things is everyone has a different opinion on what consistent means. My gunsmith has measured over .011” difference between tikkas and fixes prefits fairly regularly because if that. I think stacking tolerances with some actions/prefits makes it into gray area, but if you’re not checking with go and no go gauges, you may never know. I’ve had multiple AR barrels not headspace but most people never even check them honestly. The Solus will help get people into precision bolt guns at a reasonable price, but I feel there are way better options out there for the same price, like the CDG. Aero’s customer service was second to none though I will say!
Hey just received my CDG short action. The 6 o’clock lug bumps the feed ramp and kind of jumps up and into the breach area. It also rubs just behind the rear of the mag cut out. Does yours do the same thing? There are slight wear marks in these areas. Your input is appreciated.
@@ShootingTheBC It’s the action by itself not attached to anything. That’s interesting to know that yours operates freely. ARC said spring tension from the firing pin spring can bias the bolt head downward causing this issue. However they said it’s normal. I removed the firing pin and spring and ran the bolt yet it still hits the ramp then slides up and into what would be the chamber area. Guys on SH did suggest spring tension from a mag may assist it upward
You can delete the post above. I placed it in my foundation stock a minute ago with bottom metal and AIAW mag and it runs pretty smooth. Still bumps the ramp a tad bit, but with rounds added to the mix increasing the tension upward it should be totally fine. Thanks to the guys too over on SH with some good suggestions.
It wouldn’t headspace in my origin barrels, and I didn’t particularly like the feel of it. They were a great company to work with and I think they’ve remedied issues in later actions
To each their own, when I opened it my wife commented on how it was the best looking action I have. And I agree. I live the lines and angles that it has. But, not everyone has the same taste in styles

OK... It's good to have another competitor in the market, but it's not yet tested by mass amount of shooters in rough environment, like full of fine red dirt in OK or shooting in cold in MT. And ARC is bottlenecked by its productivity, a good amount of users on the hide complains that no ETA or follow up after putting an order in.
This is very true, maybe I should do some torture testing? I do believe as a company they have a reputation of their actions running well in the dirt and grime, but you are correct, this one is too new to know that yet. I know ARC said when they did pre orders, be patient and don’t ask (essentially) about when it’s going to be available. You’ll get it when you get it. Is that a good way to do it? Ah I see. I think Ted says that his design doesn’t really need flutes, I don’t know how, but that he only added flutes for aesthetics primarily, though it does help.
@@ShootingTheBC yeah that could be true based on the coatings they use and design. I’ve just seen videos of some hard-core PRS guys say that after a long day match or maybe a two day match where they didn’t get a chance to clean the bolt especially in Arizona and Utah where I shoot that moon dust gets in there and sometimes the fluting was the difference between some guys guns running and not when it’s right on the edge at the end of the day. Haven’t experienced it with a bolt action, but do you know from running AR15s and PCCs in matches that the desert surface can really get in there clog even freshly cleaned stuff up after a long day of hard use
Ya I’m in that area as well, so we’ll see this next season how it does! I’ll probably take it to the hornady match this year as the wind kicked my butt with my little 22 dasher last year!

A few things that seperate are the trigger hangar design to adjust engagement. Yes others do it but not like this. The big one is the pivoting bolt handle does no primary extraction on rotation but uses a lever system for stuck or stiff cases, and the biggest deal is the integral lug and rail plus tolerances to take prefits at $899. I don’t know if another rem clone that does that for the price.
@@ShootingTheBCnice that it’s “cheap.” But are solving any of these “problems” really necessary? I’ve never had any of these problems with even a standard blueprinted rem700. Much less a Stiller action I bought for around $900; 15 or so years ago.
Necessary is I guess for each individual to answer. I for one don’t know if I will ever buy an action without an integral lug. Swapping barrels is so much easier. And yes I personally swap barrels quite a bit. The pinned recoil lug on my origin is fine, but it gets annoying at the same time. We’re lucky to be in a time with so many options!

Those parts are really flying around faster than the camera focus. Maybe too much caffeine before the video. Try a light blue background. And no such thing as a "grub screw", unless you're a grubologist watching grubs mate.
OK, IF/when you have a case head separation, where do the gases go? Stolle Panda has the same issue, no gas ports on the side, none in the bolt body. Gases go in your face with a massive amount of gas going in the bolt body from the firing in the hole. OF course, the firing pin is slammed to the rear with such force that it breaks your three-lever trigger(2 oz). You see, I have had this actually happen to me. I pulled the trigger, and the next second, I was sitting on my butt, on the floor, involuntary reflex from all the gases coming at me! Custom actions need a gas port on both sides of the action at the point of the gap between the bolt and the breech of the barrel.@@ptmonroe3101
May I ask why? I run all my custom actions with little to no lube. I’ve found the quality actions with coatings don’t need it, and they end up getting just caked in dirt and grime. I’m always wanting to learn though! Thanks for watching and commenting!
It seems that way but it’s not. The ejector can’t be fully extended or retracted. So it’s not just lining it up, it’s getting the ejector in the correct position. Took a bit of messing with but I can get it without issue now. We’ll see how it goes when it’s actually all put together.

He’s a pretty firm believer in buying only top tier action wise, and leans very heavy toward Lone Peak (still my favorite) and Impact or bust. He usually will steer someone towards a tikka before anything other than those two, but he’s done 3-4 of the CDG now, I got the impression he liked them more than lot of other budget actions out there, but still told me he thinks it’s better to save up for a top tier action. Me personally, I don’t like having 2 of the same thing and I like to be a little different lol. So far I think this CDG is the best “budget” action. Is the difference between the CDG and the Lone Peak worth the cost? Well I ain’t selling my Lone Peak to buy another CDG, but I’m also not selling my CDG and buying another Lone Peak. I quite like em both!
6.5CM...is that the best ya can do??? Hahahahaha. So much more about customs this critter doesn't know... where is firing pin, spring/s, what is effect of 3 lug on timing? He should just buy a Tikka and enjoy the smooth cycle because he doesn't have the knowledge to really critique an action. Seriously can't get over he is building a custom 6.5CM!!!!!

The benefit of his 3 lug with an "aw" mag is the lug at open/ feed is at 6:00 versus using the other mag, or lug positioning on other bolts or the other handle. Have a good day young man.

If they can match the bolt smoothness of a Tikka I might be interested. The Tikka IMO is the smoothest action except for a ‘98 Oberndorf Mauser, or totally custom job, there is. Wait, the Tikka is just as smooth. My only negative is I wish it was a three position safety.
It is already slightly smoother than my tikka, it’s not quite as smooth as my loan peak to me, but that’s all pretty subjective on my part. Point is that it’s well made and they know what they’re doing.
I’ve never owned a 3 position safety rifle but I can definitely see the benefit for hunting.
I haven't seen an action smoother than a lone peak most customs are smoother than Tikka imo

@@ShootingTheBC I’m loving the action, not as smooth as the falkor but it’s still breaking in. Got it in a 6GT IBI barrel and it’s impressive. The one thing about the action is that the DLC on the bolt does wear off in a few spots pretty quickly, I’m not sure if you or othe CDG users are seeing that.
I only ran it in my hand and so far had zero wear on the bolt, I think all the coatings wear off as the process hardens the metal so it’s still got the slick feel even if the black wears off. My origin has the black worn off all over but is still super slick!

So what is wrong with the Solus? I've ordered one, hope it isn't too bad.
It’s not terrible by any means, it just fell short for my needs and use for it. I do think a lot of people will enjoy it and think it’s perfect!
I'm sure this is a nice action. What really pisses me off is the fact that ARC has pretty much dropped ALL support for the other actions. I have 2 Nucleus Gen 2s, one less than a year old, and need new bolt heads for different cartridges. Can't get any. This forces me to look elsewhere for an action the company I choose to go with will actually support. I could buy the Coup De Grace, especially if I plan to find a different action to replace these nucleus gen 2s. However, I will not be forced to buy the Coup De Grace because ARC decided to forget about the other actions in it's lineup. It would be my luck ARC will drop support for the Coup De Grace in less than a year also and then I'm really screwed. Never again ARC, never again. I'll find a company that will actually support their products....
It was my understanding they were still supporting all their previous actions and even still producing nukes and mausingfield. I’ll have to look into this because this is a real major concern if they are not! Is it possible they are just out of stock currently? Their website still has them for sale with one size being out of stock at the moment. That will be a huge deal breaker if they aren’t going to support their products down the line.
Glad I found this comment because this is the exact reason I’m watching this video. I just got off the phone with them and they said they have no plans in the immediate future to make nucleas actions that’s why you can’t even back order them. They wouldn’t give me a date so I asked a very long time and they said yes. Kinda bummed cuz I was pretty set on a nucleas 2 even ordered my grayboe inletted for it. Watching this video right now to decide what route I wanna go for a dangerous game gun build.
Well the good news is that grayboe is a universal inlet. They post specific actions so you know it’s a clone of a rem 700, but any 700 clone will drop in the grayboe, they don’t actually inlet them differently. I can maybe see why they would stop producing that action when the CDG is better and cheaper, but I really hope they don’t stop supporting their previous actions, that will absolutely turn a lot of people off of them! Go with the CDG over the nuke though, it’s superior in every way except possibly bolt stop durability. Possibly.
@@ShootingTheBC - I'm sure what's going to happen is all the parts they have on the shelves will be sold and they won't produce any more. I've been looking at this "Right hand, 0.473" bolt heads and extractors are currently out of stock. Est. in stock 2-3 months. We are not able to take backorders at this time." for the last 7 months. Need both a 473 and a 535. Can't get them and something tells me I won't be able to. I think I now know why this last action is called the Coup De Grace. Maybe it really is the end for ARC and it will be by their own hand. I wouldn't count on the Coup De Grace getting support for to long. Look what they've done to the rest of the line up. The Archimedes and Nucleus are basically gone. Horrible business practice.

After having too many failures of ARC components during matches, I'll never give them another dime of my money. I have a 1st Gen Nucleus that has had light primer strikes. My buddies 1st Gen Nucleus just straight up quit during a match due to light primer strikes. I've never been able to get my nucleus to actually control round feed. Now to get reliable ignition, my bold lift is terrible. Their mags are great as long as you replace the internals. Went with an origin, and it just works.
I know they had a stretch of trouble with some releases. It definitely seems like a more involved/tinkering required setup. I’m currently trying to get the right mag latch length to work with aics while I wait for my AW mags to come. Sometimes thinking outside of the box sacrifices ease of use I guess. I just wonder how it compares to the Defiance Ruckus.Planning another build.My Ruckus is excellent but Im always open to try other actions.

For all mechanical ejectors, u have to have it positioned right for the bolt to go in. Also like most once u have the gun built and upright it will be a non issue. Just keep that in the back of your mind and never force it. This action is going to give the origin which I have and love a run for its money. And will blow the aero out of the water.
I’m betting this is the case, never had a hiccup with my origin and it’s mechanical ejector.
@@ShootingTheBC hes probably right. my nucleus does this all the time. ill have to reach down and flip it back forward or i cant insert the bolt. its my biggest whine about the action. i pull my bolt out a lot (BR shoots) and it its a pita.
I don’t have any other ARC actions, but I’ve never had this issue with my origin. My single and only complaint about this action so far!
@ShootingTheBC Since u have the Origin, what is your opinion on the CDG vs the origin. I love my origin and if I had to be picky, I wish the bolt had a little less slop, it is buttery smooth and that means more, but a few thousandths less slop when the bolt is back would be nice. I also wish there were more rail options than just 20 moa, and I wish the bolt coating would last longer, I would say after 500rds, there was significant coating wear. I talked to Zermatt ,who has incredible customer service, and he said they coating was used to make it as smooth as it is, but it wears easily.
My bolt has hd the coating wear off quite a bit from my origin. I can’t really say yet to compare the two beyond initial impressions. I will say the origin is a solid action! The fact that the CDG has integral rail and recoil lug is huge though! I swap barrels a ton on my origin and I’m getting tired of the pinned lug. Zermatts customer service is absolutely top tier! I emailed them at 5 am one day about the lug pin deforming and they had a baggie of them in the mail by 9 am! Super impressed.
I so far would give the tip slightly to CDG but again I haven’t shot it so the most important part is yet to be compared.

I had to buy it separately. I don’t think any of the other internal actions will fit due to large bolt body and lug design.

preferred barrel blanks has great barrels. I have a 6xc that shoots well. .257 creed is interesting.
I am still in the fence with my barrel from them. I plan to do a comparison with it in my origin action and my gunsmith spun up 6.5 creed on this platform.

Pretty sure that for reasons of reliable feeding, a controlled round feed actions need a conical breech because, unlike a push feed action, the round is held by the extractor and isn't floating in the receiver. Having a coned breech gives guidance to help the cartridge move under the tension of the extractor and center itself as it goes into the chamber. It's a trade-off... a flat breech works with a push feed but the round has to be loose and uncontrolled in the receiver for it to feed reliably. Push feeds are more reliable if the action is worked quickly (why semi- and full-auto actions are push feed), but at human speeds controlled round feed is more reliable and especially so if the bolt is cycled with the rifle at an angle from horizontal and level.
That and I believe the lack of feed ramps really on the action. I’m a fan of the conical breach right now though!
Is this better than a Model 70 CRF action?
I don’t have experience with a model 70, but I do not believe it has an integral rail, huge aftermarket support or tight tolerances that allow prefit barrels to be made. So it would probably come down to what do you consider better? I’ve heard good things about the model 70, but it is not a modern action with modern features. If you shoot 20-100 rds a year you’ll never see or know any difference I don’t think. The model 70 definitely seems like a superior action of its time that just didn’t takeoff, almost like 260 rem not really doing much and being over looked and overshadowed by the 6.5 Creedmoor.

Wrong question you are asking there! They all need the safety factor of exhaust ports. They opted for looks of clean lines vs safety as a marketing tool. Make NO mistake about this issue of Safety.
I was wearing safety glasses when the case head separated, otherwise, I may have lost an eye.
Did your action have a relief port? I honestly don’t know how many do or how much it helps with safety. I’ll have to look more into that, maybe ask a few action mfg about it as well.
Any binding when pushing/closing bolt at an angle? Comparing to the Impact action let say. Thx!
The side binding is minimal and feels pretty much like my lone peak action. Sure if you apply pressure at almost 90 degrees it will bind but normal side loading while working the bolt it does not at all

Looks impressive. The best part is the fixed ejector. SAKO really disappointed me with the 90. I wish they'd make the extractor a bit wider.
The handle is a matter of taste for me. Personally, I'd go for a large ball AI-style one. For me, the best type of handle is the one that's part of the bolt itself.
I so far have really liked the bolt! I’ve seen at least one person bend the hand and out a ball on like an AI.

How does this compare to something like a defiance Ruckus?
Having no personal experience with the ruckus I can’t say definitively, but I do know it shares a Remington 700 footprint and trigger, integral rail and lug. That’s probably about it. 3 lug vs 2 lug, this has control round feeding, floating bolt head etc. As far as quality goes, I do think this is very high quality, and I know defiance has a reputation of being high quality. For $500-$600 difference, if you like the features of the CDG I think its a no brainer! Again I’ve never owned a defiance and have only held a ruckus for a minute or two. The Ruckus is more traditional. 90* Bolt throw, no gimmicks. Smooth & integrated lug/rail. ARC has a large list of features, and high quality workmanship. It really just depends on what you are looking for. Both are top shelf actions, along with Impact, Lone Peak, Zermatt, etc. I personally run a Ruckus in an ARC chassis. Defiance went out of their way to take extremely good care of me with my Tenacity, so I will continue to run their actions. By the same token Ted (owner) at ARC picked up the phone, took my order and made sure I got a few extra pieces needed for my ARC chassis. Would not hesitate to do business with either company.

Are the bolt tolerances close enough to be used for benchrest.
I would not be able to answer that as I have zero experience with benchrest. It is my understanding that typical benchrest rifles are single shot to increase the rigidity of the action and increase accuracy. I don't know what bolt tolerance you are referring to nor would I know if it is acceptable for benchrest. My guess is going to be no though lol

Seems like a lot of "stuff" going on with this thing. If you want to run pre-fits, I'd go with Lone Peak Arms Fuzion. I like simple actions. Less to go wrong. Less to fuss with. My favorite action is the Defiance Deviant Tactical because it just works. Defiance primary extraction is great. One-piece rail, action, lug, etc. And you can customize all the features if you want. But if you want to run pre-fits, I like the Fuzion a lot. I've tried the 737r as well but not my thing. All the innovations on the ARC stuff are cool on paper, but meh... they don't get you anything in practice when you're actually shooting. Controlled round feed is cool, but I've literally never had an issue with more traditional custom 700 actions in 10 years.
The biggest thing in my opinion with this action is you’re getting all that for almost half the price of some of those other actions! Sure it’s not the same quality, I live my lone peak, but Amman for $900 it does a whole lot especially for those wanting to try their hand at a custom action! Thanks for commenting
Only one glaring flaw with this design. The bolt body is round. That creates inconsistent twisting Under Fire due to Barrel whip. This has been a known problem with Remington 700 actions for decades. Square bolt bodies have always had a natural advantage over round ones. They are naturally stiffer and resist the inconsistent twisting imparted by the physics of firing the round down the barrel.
This is probably true for benchrest level of accuracy. I’ve heard BAT make similar claims for flat bottom actions. For tactical/field shooting, I honestly don’t think there’s enough to tell the difference. The top actions in the PRS are all round actions, round bolts. When you’re trying to shrink .2 inch groups to .05 inch groups I’m sure that’s the type of thing you look at though!
The slot in the bolt for the bolt stop is not new it has done back in the 60's and 70's by several companies as far as the piviting bolt handle its only needed cause you cant get enough primarily extraction in a 3 lug cause there is not enough travel to have optional primary.

@@ShootingTheBC primary extraction is dictated by bolt lift travel and helix in locks and lugs. Shorter throw bolts like 60 deg. and 70 deg. Have less primary extraction vrs 90 deg.( Like your typical 2 lug actions ) its part of the problems of 3 lug actions. That and typical surface drag. With out slick surface coating cause most 3 lugs to be rougher but create a false sence of bolt lift making it difficult to sence higher load pressures.

@@ShootingTheBC Why not use the terms that have been used since the advent of the Remington 700. Fixed ejectors were called fixed blade ejectors or manual ejectors, the Remington 700 style was a Spring plunger ejector or an automatic ejector.

These kids designing actions forget that this stuff was figured out and named in 1890's. What's being done today is fixing all the corners Remington cut in the 1960's to compete with the original Winchester model 70 The best commercial action ever made. Comercial action. Not these custom and semi custom actions that are light years ahead of a 1960's technology.

What is the purpose of the pivoting bolt handle? What's the benefit?
The primary extraction is not done at bolt rotation, so if you get a slightly stuck case , it’s a lever instead of hitting the bolt knob up to get it to extract. Also because of that, it makes it extremely smooth on closing as well.

Yes I have the matrix and the lite, amazing chassis! The ba comp is great as well. I know a couple top competitors use mpa with aw mags exclusively. I haven’t tried them yet though with AW mags.

@@ShootingTheBC An update would be good since Tikka actions are consistent enough for prefit barrels, it would be pretty disappointing for a custom action to be less consistent than a factory one...
One of the things is everyone has a different opinion on what consistent means. My gunsmith has measured over .011” difference between tikkas and fixes prefits fairly regularly because if that. I think stacking tolerances with some actions/prefits makes it into gray area, but if you’re not checking with go and no go gauges, you may never know. I’ve had multiple AR barrels not headspace but most people never even check them honestly.
The Solus will help get people into precision bolt guns at a reasonable price, but I feel there are way better options out there for the same price, like the CDG.
Aero’s customer service was second to none though I will say!
Hey just received my CDG short action. The 6 o’clock lug bumps the feed ramp and kind of jumps up and into the breach area. It also rubs just behind the rear of the mag cut out. Does yours do the same thing? There are slight wear marks in these areas. Your input is appreciated.
Is this with a barrel on or just running it as the action only? Mine doesn’t really bump into anything either way.
@@ShootingTheBC It’s the action by itself not attached to anything. That’s interesting to know that yours operates freely. ARC said spring tension from the firing pin spring can bias the bolt head downward causing this issue. However they said it’s normal. I removed the firing pin and spring and ran the bolt yet it still hits the ramp then slides up and into what would be the chamber area. Guys on SH did suggest spring tension from a mag may assist it upward
You can delete the post above. I placed it in my foundation stock a minute ago with bottom metal and AIAW mag and it runs pretty smooth. Still bumps the ramp a tad bit, but with rounds added to the mix increasing the tension upward it should be totally fine. Thanks to the guys too over on SH with some good suggestions.

It wouldn’t headspace in my origin barrels, and I didn’t particularly like the feel of it. They were a great company to work with and I think they’ve remedied issues in later actions

OK... It's good to have another competitor in the market, but it's not yet tested by mass amount of shooters in rough environment, like full of fine red dirt in OK or shooting in cold in MT. And ARC is bottlenecked by its productivity, a good amount of users on the hide complains that no ETA or follow up after putting an order in.
This is very true, maybe I should do some torture testing? I do believe as a company they have a reputation of their actions running well in the dirt and grime, but you are correct, this one is too new to know that yet.
I know ARC said when they did pre orders, be patient and don’t ask (essentially) about when it’s going to be available. You’ll get it when you get it. Is that a good way to do it? I don’t know, but I do believe they’ve gotten all but caught up or close to it at least.

Ah I see. I think Ted says that his design doesn’t really need flutes, I don’t know how, but that he only added flutes for aesthetics primarily, though it does help.
@@ShootingTheBC yeah that could be true based on the coatings they use and design. I’ve just seen videos of some hard-core PRS guys say that after a long day match or maybe a two day match where they didn’t get a chance to clean the bolt especially in Arizona and Utah where I shoot that moon dust gets in there and sometimes the fluting was the difference between some guys guns running and not when it’s right on the edge at the end of the day. Haven’t experienced it with a bolt action, but do you know from running AR15s and PCCs in matches that the desert surface can really get in there clog even freshly cleaned stuff up after a long day of hard use
Ya I’m in that area as well, so we’ll see this next season how it does! I’ll probably take it to the hornady match this year as the wind kicked my butt with my little 22 dasher last year!

The slot in the bolt body is simply because it's a full diameter bolt, nothing really special about it.
It doesn’t interfere with the bolt cycling like other full body bolts I’ve had, but I do see it’s pretty common.
Another rem700 clone?
What separates it from the thousands of other rem700 clones? I don't see anything special about it. Its another "also run."
A few things that seperate are the trigger hangar design to adjust engagement. Yes others do it but not like this. The big one is the pivoting bolt handle does no primary extraction on rotation but uses a lever system for stuck or stiff cases, and the biggest deal is the integral lug and rail plus tolerances to take prefits at $899. I don’t know if another rem clone that does that for the price.

But are solving any of these “problems” really necessary? I’ve never had any of these problems with even a standard blueprinted rem700. Much less a Stiller action I bought for around $900; 15 or so years ago.
Necessary is I guess for each individual to answer. I for one don’t know if I will ever buy an action without an integral lug. Swapping barrels is so much easier. And yes I personally swap barrels quite a bit. The pinned recoil lug on my origin is fine, but it gets annoying at the same time. We’re lucky to be in a time with so many options!

Those parts are really flying around faster than the camera focus. Maybe too much caffeine before the video. Try a light blue background. And no such thing as a "grub screw", unless you're a grubologist watching grubs mate.

They need exhaust ports, in case you blow a case or primer, gas is vented!!!

OK, IF/when you have a case head separation, where do the gases go? Stolle Panda has the same issue, no gas ports on the side, none in the bolt body. Gases go in your face with a massive amount of gas going in the bolt body from the firing in the hole. OF course, the firing pin is slammed to the rear with such force that it breaks your three-lever trigger(2 oz). You see, I have had this actually happen to me. I pulled the trigger, and the next second, I was sitting on my butt, on the floor, involuntary reflex from all the gases coming at me!
Custom actions need a gas port on both sides of the action at the point of the gap between the bolt and the breech of the barrel.@@ptmonroe3101

May I ask why? I run all my custom actions with little to no lube. I’ve found the quality actions with coatings don’t need it, and they end up getting just caked in dirt and grime. I’m always wanting to learn though! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Come on man all you have to do is line up the ejector and the bolt will run no problem it doesn't take a genius just a little common sense
It seems that way but it’s not. The ejector can’t be fully extended or retracted. So it’s not just lining it up, it’s getting the ejector in the correct position. Took a bit of messing with but I can get it without issue now. We’ll see how it goes when it’s actually all put together.

The action? It’s designed to be at the rear to get rid of debris. It’s smooth as can be with no binding.

Kinda like seeing the mistakes made that we all may run into to get a good review good and bad. Let me know what Garret is saying afterward on this action. Reached out to him as well for some advise on a build.
He’s a pretty firm believer in buying only top tier action wise, and leans very heavy toward Lone Peak (still my favorite) and Impact or bust. He usually will steer someone towards a tikka before anything other than those two, but he’s done 3-4 of the CDG now, I got the impression he liked them more than lot of other budget actions out there, but still told me he thinks it’s better to save up for a top tier action. Me personally, I don’t like having 2 of the same thing and I like to be a little different lol. So far I think this CDG is the best “budget” action. Is the difference between the CDG and the Lone Peak worth the cost? Well I ain’t selling my Lone Peak to buy another CDG, but I’m also not selling my CDG and buying another Lone Peak. I quite like em both!

6.5CM...is that the best ya can do??? Hahahahaha. So much more about customs this critter doesn't know... where is firing pin, spring/s, what is effect of 3 lug on timing? He should just buy a Tikka and enjoy the smooth cycle because he doesn't have the knowledge to really critique an action. Seriously can't get over he is building a custom 6.5CM!!!!!
