  • So I snapped off 2 header bolts, and had a fun time removing them. first one was easy since the stud stood out, but the other one broke off in head... that was fun.. lucky harbor freight saved the day with their reverse bits!

Nothing feels better than getting a broken bolt out. Extractor bits are a life saver and I'm glad to see the HF set worked.

After I snapped a valve cover bolt in the head. I can confirm that it is one of the best feelings in the world when you extract it.

I've been struggling with getting 1 broken bolt out all month and I'll never again reuse old bolts after working on my engine. Man thank you for the video. Most of the videos show people taking bolts out on remove engines & blocks. Working in the engine bay is another story!

never had them bits break. Love how them bits eat more than other drill bits.

It helps using gear oil or cutting oil on the tips of the drill bits to lubricate and cool them, and it helps to drill into metal big time.

7 days, 10 drill bits, one broken screw extractor, drilling second time now after bolt snapped. All gone.
Always take your time, yes. Always use good tools, cheap screw extractors may brake eventually. Good drill with good torque and battery makes things much easier and will save you some tears.

Thanks for a great video. Don’t get any type of hardened bolts to replace those. They’ll fail when subjected to the repeated thermal cycles the exhaust manifolds experience. Just my .02 :)

If you use a fine teeth socket on the square, you can turn it out with a socket. I can't remember if it's 12 or 16 teeth...

Its helps to use a high speed drill such as one that runs off a compressor and good bits.

Word of advice. Use cutting oil. All that friction creates a lot of heat

Dip new bolts in milk of magnesia. we used that on jet engine bolts in the navy. hi heat turns milk of magnesia into powder . no stuck bolts

Connection between my auger and nut on snowblower sheered. Buying Harbour freight extractor and left bit to see if it worked. So you start with smallest than larger? Already got a small center hole going. Tha’ks
