In my 32 years of riding I spent many a hour reading tyre reviews to see what was best at that time and buying the next best thing and every year a tyre manufacturer brings out the next much more improved tyre and I can’t help but think in that 32 years have they really got that much better ?? There is often a debates about whether the bikes, like the ones ridden in the video are too powerful for the road. After watching this video it seems they are too powerful for this very high speed track. The circuit (Kyalami) is way above sea level, so the bikes ridden would be producing 18% less power than in the UK, and no one seemed to notice! Conclusion is that there is way more power available than what is required.
Did about 15k kms on my first pair of s22s on my 09 vfr800 before the rear started to square up a little bit and put a new pair on november 2022. Most likely the new tyre will be the S23 from what i see...

Great presentation! I enjoy my S22s more than I expected. I wonder: if the rear S23 holds up that well on fast bikes on track, will I get it properly warm on the street? Hmm.
S22s were great by all admissions but they lasted less than 2k miles on a proper big bike imo, there is no way to justify their price for that sort of life, when Conti Road Attack 4s or Road 5s can handle an occasional trackday too, no problems in fast twisty backroads, and also last 5-6k miles.

Found the s22s to be rubbish on the sides when hot. Slide all over the place. Hope these are better. Also love that the Gsxr was still going and the other 2 shit themselves 😅
Yep, I nearly lost the rear at Donington Park Old Hairpin on my R6 with S22s. Same reason. I doubt these S23's are much better. Also bridgestone couldn't give me HOT pressures to run them at, just cold 'because they're a road tyre.'
@@mickl8212 mine was at snetterton. Been round the same corner much harder on continentals and Pirelli’s and had no issues. Also found turn in harder due to the flatter profile.
I think it’s just the compound they use. Greasy when hot. Unless the compound is massively different these will be the same
@@liam-james yes they chewed up on my R6 despite suspension being set correct and trying multiple hot tyre pressures.
Each of those bikes 20% down on power compared to bikes in uk due to altitude there? 750 i rode there felt like a 400, rode to cape town at sea level and couldn't believe difference in power . Presumably move around a lot more when bikes are At full power?
nice stuff Al, the BMW looks pretty rapid, keep up the great content sausage.
perfect pairing then. kyalami and s23's.
Thank you Statham for allowing me to live vicariously through you, while freezing my balls off in the frozen winter wastes here.. Cheers from the Colonies! 🍻🇨🇦
What pressures was there on the bikes? Different between the sizes I guess but what did you use on the bigger ones?
And what temp did you have after a session?
The sound of that R1 😮💨
So guys, I want to buy a GSXR 1000 or Yamaha R1. What would you guys get?

What a dream day! Would be awesome to see Bridgestone compete with Michelin in MotoGP again.
seems like a tire that might suit the KTM 890 SMT????
I have to ask, what is the Nige reference That Alastair mentions from time to time?

Gsxr 1000 = bombproof. I have a k6 and I'm never selling it, a beast on the road
I’ve got two. A modified 2018 1000 R model and a modified 1000 K4. I’m never selling any of those either.
