My Chevy Silverado 2500 Duramax HD high country has a 6’ 6” bed.
My B&W receiver works great. No turning issues with my Jayco 310 NP 5th wheel, 36’ was never easier to back in State park camp sights.
Hook up and disconnect is super easy and secure.
    No need for a slider.

We have both a gooseneck stock trailer and a 5th wheel camper and we hate the gooseneck! It takes longer to hitch and have to climb into the bed to connect the chains. Also you can see the 5th wheel to hitch but not the goose ball. You have to go up and over the ball than after it is lined up let it down on the ball. With a 5th wheel you simply back in and put the pin in the handle and you are good to go.

I have the Goosebox and do not climb into my 8" bed to connect chains. Yes it takes longer to actually hitch up, but I ain't in no hurry so a few extra seconds I don't mind. The pro's far exceed the cons for me. I have learned how to align my ball with the hitch that it is a non issue. I will never have a regular 5th wheel hitch again.

Hey JD, Laser likes the Sidewinder, too. Do a video, you'd be surprised how smoothly it tows with zero sway. While towing at speed, you never turn sharply enough to make the 22" offset an issue. Maneuvering into a tight campsite space is much easier with the Sidewinder and a short bed truck. Thank you for another great video.

Wish the Anderson hitch was mentioned. Have it and love it. Super simple to install and remove. No rails since it connects to the goose ball. Also it is light!! At 35-40 pounds it is incredible. The airborne sidewinder doesn't change the point where the weight is placed, just where it pivots. So while the pivot will be closer to a conventional tow, the weight is still right about the rear axle (or close to it). When conventional towing putting 20% tongue weight on the hitch ball has a significant lever effect on the tow vehicle reducing the weight on the front axle. This makes for light steering and poor braking. However the sidewinder still keeps that 20% tongue weight over the rear axle making the lever effect very close to 0. For those used to towing a conventional trailer it may help as well because the trailer will be more responsive to truck movements than a standard goose or 5th. That is the one area that I could see it producing more sway. Not because of the location of the tongue weight being changed, but because the pivot point being further back makes smaller tow vehicle movements more pronounced on the trailer.

I had a 2006 F250hd eight foot bed crew cab up until 2 years ago. I sold it and bought a 2017 2500hd Chevrolet Silverado crew cab with a shortbed. I had a Resse regular hitch in the Ford. I pull a 2013 Montana 38 feet fith. I noticed right off the rail height difference, wow what have I gotten myself into. So I took a whole lot of measurements and found the trailer was going to be nose high and could possibly hit my rear rails. Also due to being a shortbed my turning would be limited. After doing alot of research I decided to go with the Patriot Superglide 2700. But I still had a clearance problem so I installed the Correct track lifts which brought me to level. Haven't looked back my reversing into tight sites is fantastic so much better than my old truck. As for removing the hitch I bought a engine lift from Harbor Freight and Demco hitch tool which can be used on any pin hitch. I modified the engine hoist by extending the arm out 12 inches with 1/4 inch thick by 3 foot pipe to reach the the hitch with the tailgate down. I can reinstall the hitch in under twenty minutes and remove in fifteen minutes.

Come to find out the new Reese Goosebox hitch will Not fit on our new GD Solitude. We ended up going with a B&W Companion hitch. I’ve only towed it once with this new hitch and I must admit so far I am pleasantly surprised at how well it tows over the gooseneck/ball setup. I need more trips for a full evaluation.

  • @acdii

I have the Reese Sidewinder, and it gives excellent cab clearance on a 6 5' bed, sway is not an issue, easy to hitch up to, but the wedge can be problematic. I use a Curt A20, and the wedge that is made for it, does not fit tight, it runs out of slot before it is snug on both sides of the mouth on the hitch. This causes side play, which can mimic sway. If the wedge fits tight, it cannot move in the hitch, and all pivoting comes at the trailer end of the pinbox, then it tows great. I wound up modifying the Reese wedge by welding on 3/16" steel to take up the gap, and that locked it in, but the one meant for the A20 is just too sloppy. I bet if the Sidewinder is paired with the Reese 5th wheel hitch, it would be rock solid.

I have the Reese 19K Sidewinder pin box on my 39' Montana 5th wheel, mated to the Reese Titan 20K 5th wheel hitch in my RAM 3500 SRW Mega Cab with the 6'4" bed & Ram Boxes. Both Reese & Etrailer worked with me to come up with this set-up. It tows beautifully with zero sway, as the wedge fits really snug into the hitch, with Reese on Reese. The only issue is disconnecting, as I need to be near to straight and level, otherwise the hitch release bar can be tough to pull out. Sometimes I need to gently tap the release bar with a rubber mallet just to start it sliding out, then all is good. Hitching up is a breeze. The Sidewinder is a great solution for a short bed truck with Ram Boxes.
