We didn't even take our 2021 cedar creek 38ebs off the lot until the 20k goose box was installed. We then traveled from south Louisiana to Denver the day the hitch was installed and it was worth every penny. Reese has a great product 👌
You’re clearly a super knowledgeable guy with a lot of experience , which means you know what to ask. You’re videos would benefit greatly from you asking the right questions instead of demonstrating you’re knowledge when you have the guy who actually designed the equipment right in front of you.
@@Abc-kf4qx if you gave me a choice in getting information on a hitch from the guy who designed it or the guy that uses it, I'll take the guy that uses it all day. Thats like saying you would rather have the engineer come out and explain how to build a bridge rather than the iron workers who actually build the bridge. If i want to know how to draw the bridge I'll ask the engineer, if I want to know how the bridge works I'll ask the iron workers.
I bought my Gen 2 in 2019 based on your review and have no regrets. It's on my 2nd fifth wheel now and still performing like new. My air bag only requires a fill up in the beginning of the season and maybe a top off in late summer. If it needed to be replaced I would not hesitate buying the Gen 3. Thanks JD.
I have a 20,000 lb. Goose box and I love it. I have a 20,000 lb. Dual tandem flat bed trailer that I haul tractors etc. on. The difference in the chucking when it is empty is gone with the Goose Box. You will not believe the difference even when loaded, I love my Goose Box.
I replaced the pin box with a Gen2 GooseBox on a 2 axle Heartland Cyclone after watching your reviews. It's been on trips from Kansas to Arizona and New York on all kinds of roads. It hauls better than the original 5th wheel setup. I loved my B&W Companion hitch, but the convenience of instantly having the entire truck bed available whenever the trailer is disconnected can't be beat!
I talked my Dad into getting the second Gen. 20K goosebox when he bought his 2017 Primetime Sanibel 3917 with comes in at a GVW of 16K lbs. We have run the ranch hand adapter for 20 years on other fiver’s and always complained about the chucking and porpoising in the ride quality. First tow with the goosebox and we were sold made it a smooth tow and yes you still know a trailer is behind you. Honestly anything over 5K lbs you know is back there, but why not have a better experience and reduce fatigue by running innovative products like this and not void any warranties. People complain about the price but if you have a turn over set up you’re going to spend the same amount for a high quality fifth wheel setup with lower weight classification.
Have been towing with a Gen2 for almost three years. Great product. Nice ride. Painted the metal bar in the sight window to make it easier to see and added hooks on the side to stow safety chains.
I had a gen 1 goosebox on my 37’ toy hauler and loved towing it! The airbag system made towing so comfortable. If I ever go back to a fifth wheel it will have one installed before it leaves the dealership!
I love my pin box Gen 2! Such a great Towing experience! I've Been recommending to many people at the Campground who ask about my setup! I also love my Reese Products 👌
Used a 2nd gen for a couple years on my Jayco Eagle 355mbqs and loved it! Paid $1000 for it then. Just bought a new 2nd gen for a new Crossroads redwood 4150RD I’m buying and I’m installing and picking up next week. Paid $1600. Love the Reese goosebox and won’t tow my fifth wheel with anything else. $2500 for a 3rd gen on E-trailer seems to be a little crazy. Will use the second gen till and if the 3rd gen comes down in price.
I have a gen2 18k goosebox, I found it after watching this channel. I thoroughly enjoy it. My 2 issues are that my handle for the cable to release the jaws slips down the cable making it hard to reach at times, and secondly my air bag does not maintain pressure for more than about a week or so. But towing with it is very enjoyable.
Same here had to fill air bag often and it’s really hard to get to valve hooked up. Also the stop on the cable was too high and it wouldn’t release the ball without me pulling the cable even further while trying to lift the trailer at the same time.
I run a Gen 2 goosebox and can honestly say I love it! it was night and day compared to the stock king pin that came on my Momentum. The only issue ive had is the pull cable locking screw has come loose several times, but i just add loctite to it and it seems to be doing better. But honestly the best investment in my trailer so far.
My Gen 3 arrived yesterday and I plan to install it today on my Alliance (weather permitting). I bought mine from tow universe for $1600. It was shipped directly from Reese and took about 4 weeks to get here. I cannot wait to try it out.
I have the gen 2 model and absolutely love it. Personally will never pull a king pin setup again! Ride quality is amazing, easy to use and best part is the space saving. Not to mention the incredible ease to return truck box back to normal!
Have had the 20k Gen 2 for just over a year. It works great and does decrease the chucking significantly. So much better than the original 5th wheel hitch. It tows our 37ft Toyhauler with no problem. I would like to have a remote air fill. But I still have to hook up the safety chains. So its no big deal. E-trailer had if for $1300 a year ago. Worth every penny. Great video
First off when my truck broke down one time the first eight people I called only had goosenecks, so that was a big plus, Then on my f-550 the frame was so rough I was worried about ripping apart the frame on the camper with the goose box second gen I went through some pretty rough transitions on the highway one that actually deflated the air spring in the goose box pretty well. And of course not only do I have plenty of room in the back of my trucks, I don't have to move a 200 lb hitch by hand when I need to use a truck, and my friends have my back if my truck breaks down again
I've been using my Gen2 18K Goosebox for about 2 years now and I can say the ride quality is so smooth you tend to forget you're even towing something. And being able to just unlatch the ball, wipe it off and throw it under the back seat and have the bed usable, is really the best benefit. Couple of small complaints: 1) the air valve is difficult to fill with because you not only have to attach the air hose but then it won't fill unless you press the valve assembly in; 2) the grease nipple on the underside of the latch bar got ripped off almost right away, since when you lift the trailer off the ball, the trailer tends to move a good amount to the side or front/back, so as soon as that hitch is free of the ball but barely above it, it moves and the nipple was torn off; 3) the hole for putting a lock through the latch lever is a bit small for a heavy duty padlock. Other than that, I really don't know why you don't see more of these out there - it's as if no one knows about towing with a true gooseball hitch, and the benefits are so great. Considering if you're new to towing and have to buy a 5th wheel hitch, that apparatus will cost you a good $500 or more, then why wouldn't you just spend a bit more and get one of these and then you won't have to remove that big frame from the bed of your truck when you're not towing and have to find a place to store it. Edit: One drawback I think of putting the air valve on top of the Gen3 is that on my goosebox, I have a magnet-attached solar panel for keeping the batteries charged when in storage, so that would potentially cover the air valve.
I mounted a Gen 2 to my 2022 Grand Design. I love it. One suggestion though. It would be nice if Reese painted the bar, in the window, to determine if you have enough air. I used some of my wife’s old Red fingernail polish, but having the Mfg apply a color would be better.
Just got my GEN 3 A couple days ago just installed it on my cedar creek and haven’t had a chance to take it out yet. really looks good fits great Very high-quality and Made well. little worried about The top rail and the gooseneck pin box clearance when turning. I have about 8 inches of bed clearance on my 2016 Ram 3500 dually. I do have pics to share but don’t think I can here.
I did this upgrade to my 40 feet toyhauler. This a different great product the truck rides better trailer feels like it rolls easier. Was a little no the costly but with eatrailer its not as bad. But I'm so glad I spent the money for it to have less In my truck bed is well worth it
I've been using the Anderson based on a review JD did a few years ago and it's been a good product for us. I looked at the Reese GB Gen 3 online and YIKES....$2k for this thing. I'll stick with the Anderson at this point. It is just out of my price range as I am sure it is for many others.
Very nice unit will be awaiting your review of this unit. I don't currently own a 5th wheel, but considering one. The Reese hitch has always been an attractive option to the standard 5th wheel hitch in the bed. The standard hitch is fine if you don't mind not having use of the bed or having to remove the hitch anytime you want the bed of the truck clear.
I run the gen2 16k on my grand design. Love everything about it except the location of the air fitting, I extended mine to the back of the goose box so I can reach it easier.
I really like the Reese Goose Box idea. I don't really want a cumbersome and heavy 5th wheel in the bed of a truck I will primarily use for other than towing a conventional 5th wheel trailer. Although the Trailer Saver hitch system intrigues me as well.
We changed to the goose (gen 2) and absolutely love it. The fact that my bed is empty from the slider hitch we had is awesome. The way it changed the ride was amazing. Now curious if the Gen 3 feels any different.
If you don't mind me asking. If you had a slider then you have a short bed right? I too have a short bed and I'm looking to get the goosebox but I just want to make sure I will have bed rail clearance and that I'm not too nose high. So my question to you is what's the length of your bed? Distance from ground to bed rail when completely unloaded? And your bed rail clearance from the fifth wheel deck when hooked up? I'm fairly new to fifth wheels so trying to gather information. Thank you
There are a lot of questions on this thread that never got any answers. BTBRV you should do another video updating us on your current feelings on the Goosebox. Are you still using it? Is it good for short bed trucks? Stuff like that. Always enjoy your videos.
I have been waiting for Reese to build this Goose Box that will fit my Cedar Creek Rhino Box, finally its here, but unfortunately they have for some reason went crazy with the pricing. Come on really $2100 without taxes? Well for me I will just stick with my fifth wheel B&W hitch…
So I just installed a 16K on my Vanleigh Pinecrest. It has the new valve directly into the bag but still located on underside. I have yet to find a air fitting that will work to put air into bag. I heard you mention an adapter etrailer makes? Do you know what it’s called or part number please? Thanks JD always a joy to watch your videos.
Wish Reese would answer their phone when you need a part for this hitch... On hold over two hours! Then they announced they were closed and hung up on me😮
BTBRV- I just order a 24 F350 7.3 with 4.30 King Ranch Srw to tow a Montana 3901RK 14,800 dry. My question is, if I use a Reese goose box instead of a traditional fifth wheel hitch, do I run the risk of damaging the fifth wheel? I have to look Into who built the frame
I enjoy your videos. I’ve never called in an RV, only tents when I was in Boy Scouts and a couple of times with the kids in the backyard when they were kids. In doing research on TH-cam, I’ve come to the conclusion that it is best to rent a bumper pull and a Class C a couple of different times to see if this is the lifestyle that we wish to get into. Can you do some videos on the best way to rent, and what to look for when renting? Is it best to rent from a dealer (if you can find one that rents) or from one of those AirB&B type of places? I appreciate your knowledge, thank you for your channels.
Still haven't solved hitching. Why can't there be a funnel to make it easier to hook up? Have to be very precise and directly over the ball. 3rd generation and still haven't figured this out?
I had a 16k on my last 5th wheel and really liked it. New 5er is 20k and I'd like a little more "cushion" than a 20k rated goosebox. When is a heavier rated one coming out?
Question for you. Because I’m very interested in this product. But kinda worried about one thing. On a windy day does the camper move around more or rock more with it being hitched to a goose ball and can pivot in that ball. Vs a king pin you got a big flat plate on a flat plate and helps for stability. Curious how this does in them conditions
What are your thoughts about side to side motion from the camper. Can owning the Goosebox allow more play which can allow the camper to hit your bed rails?
Based on your review I purchased the Gen 3 Reese Goosebox. I am unable to access the front grease zerk due to the lip of the top section covering the rubber dust cover. What have you done in order to expose that zerk so that you can add grease to it?
When I am ready (have the money) to get an updated trailer I definitely want to put this on my current 5er since the "new" truck will come default with a gooseball. I love the engineering design of and feel the same way about this as I do with the B&W Slider.
I am liking the idea more and more but seems over priced for the working class. Can this be used with a drop in ball or are there other recommendations?
So my question is, is there not similar forces at play with the standard Kingpin ? Or is goosebox simply much longer than the stock kingpin, which then creates more leverage on the 5th wheel frame which has to be addressed with airbags or suspension.
My only question/concern about the gen 3 is that it appears the air bladder is now exposed to sunlight in the area near the fill location? Does that mean the rubber bladder is prone to getting dried out and deteriorated in the sun at that spot?
Does Reese have any plans to introduce a Goosebox able to replace the Turning Point pin box? Gen Y has one but I prefer not voiding any Lippert warranty plus I like the air bag over the torsion style shock absorption.
I have a Gen 2 goose box, I love it compared to the 5th wheels normal hitch. It has removed most of the chucking. My 5th wheel can still take a beating on California’s rough highways. Is there any way to resolve that issue a little bit more.
My RV is 20,000 pound GVWR. Are they going to come out with a goosebox that is rated for more than 20,000 pounds? I don’t feel comfortable being right at the max. Would love to have a Reese goosebox though!
I actually have a question. I have the gen 2 and actively take the trailer offroad since it is a Genisis Supreme 37 CRXL. I am worried about the Gooseneck taking load of being pulled out if the truck and trailer get stuck. The tow rope I have does stretch 30 % to act like a bungee cord. Could this type of load be a problem or will it be OK? I absolutely love the Goosebox. I purchased it and had it installed before I even picked up my first fifth wheel.
I have a new gen 3 goose box but I don’t seem to be able to find the grease zero on the front pin. I have taken the rubber plug off but do not see a grease zero. Can you explain in detail how to find it or could it be that they missed installing it at factory.
What is the amount of travel that can be accomplished with a remotely adjustable on board compressor? It would be nice to be able to adjust the height upward on the fly if you find yourself in an off camber turn to give additional side rail clearance, or downward to correct for tail drag.
Empty to full air bag is probably 2" or so. It does matter, when we're in a tight situation parking, I always air the box up all the way to get as much clearance as possible.
$2,300 plus tax? It’s a pretty 😢 expensive upgrade given the kingpin hitch comes with almost all trailers. 😮. Don’t think I’ll be buying one anytime soon.
@@joecool509 so is the high cost associated with benefits of use in your bed or R&D and real cost of producing the product? Seems on high side to me, like double?
Your not just paying for the product, your paying for all the R and D that went into it, as well as the experience of those running the test and the engineering, along with that the manufacturer of the frame certificate, my 5th wheel hitch was $1200.00 so of I deducted that cost this seems like a worthwhile upgrade that I don't need to worry about my family with, and an easier time I'm 100% getting one!
I just had the gen 3 installed on my fifth wheel. When I went to fill the bag the schrader valve is mounted 180 degrees opposite of what it should be. The fill port is facing the trailer not the ball. How do I make this work because I cannot fill the bag
I have a Pull Rite slider hitch for the clearance when I have to make sharp turns. (GMC 2500) How is the clearance on the bed sides and the cab if I have to turn sharp?
Lippert doesn't down Reese....so🤦♂ Reese's parent company is Horizon Global and was purchased by First Brands last year, but still no correlation to Lippert.
Will this Goosebox work on a 2019 Ford F250 with the standard 6.75 foot bed length? I currently use the Pullrite sliding hitch to prevent and damage to truck/trailer when making sharp turns or reversing.
Why is Genesis supreme telling me they won’t warranty the 5th wheel If I put the Reese goose box on it when it’s approved by lippert? Makes no sense to me.
12,000 miles on my Solitude this first year and the Gen 2 has been problematic. Drive a couple hundred miles over interstates and the bar is no longer visible in the sight hole and have to re-fill. Start/stop results in loud clanking regardless of whether I use a Curt or B&W ball. Disconnect results in loud metallic snapping noises when Goosebox clears the ball with trailer lurching back a good 4 inches despite being chocked and TV in park and E-brake on. Something is not right with this design or my pin box.
@@Mattcandy123 You are Absolutely 💯% spot on👌 We have the Gen-Y Executive hitch on our Alliance Valor 40v13 and it rides nice behind our Ram Truck. Plus as you mentioned it was less expensive than if I had bought the kingpin hitch to fit the puck system.
I will never see the point of these. I pull heavy trailers everyday, RV, Flatbed and dumps, all GN. I put king pin adapters on all my trailers and IMO is FAR superior to a GN. The ONLY argument for a GN ball is room in the bed. You lose VERY little with a 5th wheel hitch and modern hitch come right out and leave a clean bed. I usually just have my 100 Diesel tank in the bed and a few small items. Hookup and unhook with a 5th wheel is lightyears faster than a GN. If you switch between many trailers often as I do the differance becomes obvious and glaring.
Well, from an engineering standpoint, it was never designed to fit the newer rhino frame. So it would make sense that Reese would not want you to drill through it and possibly compromise the engineering.
I bought a new 5th wheel with a Road Armor Pin Box and immediately changed it to the 3rd gen Reese Goose Hitch. I love it.

i called BAL who makes some 5th wheel frames and they also approve of the Reese Goosebox.
We love ours!!!!!!!!
Love my Goosebox (2nd gen)!!!!
Any word on getting something higher than 20K? Maybe a 25K version? 🤞
I asked on their TH-cam channel last month and they said nothing soon! :(
Wonder if this gives more turning clearance for short beds…..
I’ve asked this question several times myself and have never received an answer.
Wish Reese would answer their phone when you need a part for this hitch... On hold over two hours! Then they announced they were closed and hung up on me😮
Thank you for pointing out we’re the front Grease fitting is under plastic plug. Instruction fail to mention that.
WHERE, not we're. We're = WE ARE
pointed out where but still can't access!
If pulling with 3/4 short wheel base, should a offset be used to be there is enough clearance from the cab?
I've got the gen 2 20k. Love it just wish it had more tongue weight capacity. I've heard rumors of a 24k 🤔
I've not noticed any difference in stability between the two.
What are your thoughts about side to side motion from the camper. Can owning the Goosebox allow more play which can allow the camper to hit your bed rails?
dang it, now I have to get one........
I wish that Reese would build a 24k unit
Based on your review I purchased the Gen 3 Reese Goosebox. I am unable to access the front grease zerk due to the lip of the top section covering the rubber dust cover. What have you done in order to expose that zerk so that you can add grease to it?
I'd buy one if they make amaller ones! I have a 7k pound 21 footer. A 10k box would do the trick.
My pinbox is a 1116. Can you confirm which part#/model of 20k Goose Box I need to buy? Thx and great vid.
My only question/concern about the gen 3 is that it appears the air bladder is now exposed to sunlight in the area near the fill location? Does that mean the rubber bladder is prone to getting dried out and deteriorated in the sun at that spot?
Have you ever compared the Reese Gen 3 to the Gen-Y Executive gooseneck hitch to see if one is any better than the other? Thanks
The Reese 3rd generation goosebox have up graded the weight rating ?
HI Bruce, the capacity is still 20K with a 4K pin weight capacity
My problem I need a 21,000 that the reason I went with the Gen-Y gooseneck I really wanted to go with with goosebox hope reese beef up in the future
Do you have to bleed the air out of the airbag every time you dis connect for any length of time.
Yeah however if you are hitching and unhitching and need your bed several times a year or a huge time saver. And no 5th wheel hitch to buy.
@@joecool509 so is the high cost associated with benefits of use in your bed or R&D and real cost of producing the product? Seems on high side to me, like double?
Yes, but potentially you don’t need to buy a fifth wheel hitch. Just a goose neck ball kit if your truck has factory prep.
Yes it’s expensive but benefits out way this. If a fella gets a new truck and is required to buy a new hitch setup the extra cost is not much.
My hitch will not go up high enough on my 325rl Salem to sit level with my 2021 Ram dually. Any suggestions?
I just had the gen 3 installed on my fifth wheel. When I went to fill the bag the schrader valve is mounted 180 degrees opposite of what it should be. The fill port is facing the trailer not the ball. How do I make this work because I cannot fill the bag
I wish it was compatible with my Grand Design 278 BH
I have a Pull Rite slider hitch for the clearance when I have to make sharp turns. (GMC 2500) How is the clearance on the bed sides and the cab if I have to turn sharp?
Is there a way for this to replace a turning point pin box ?
@@BobBob-dx5jx yea didn’t want that one. Lol
Can this hitch be used in a short bed pickup and not have to worry about clearance on sharp turns?
New to the 5th wheel world but my question is did Lippert approve the Reese Goosebox before or after lippert purchased Reese?
Lippert doesn't down Reese....so🤦♂ Reese's parent company is Horizon Global and was purchased by First Brands last year, but still no correlation to Lippert.
Will this Goosebox work on a 2019 Ford F250 with the standard 6.75 foot bed length? I currently use the Pullrite sliding hitch to prevent and damage to truck/trailer when making sharp turns or reversing.
Why is Genesis supreme telling me they won’t warranty the 5th wheel If I put the Reese goose box on it when it’s approved by lippert? Makes no sense to me.
my boy at Reese thiique
Where did the Grease zerts move to on this model
12,000 miles on my Solitude this first year and the Gen 2 has been problematic. Drive a couple hundred miles over interstates and the bar is no longer visible in the sight hole and have to re-fill. Start/stop results in loud clanking regardless of whether I use a Curt or B&W ball. Disconnect results in loud metallic snapping noises when Goosebox clears the ball with trailer lurching back a good 4 inches despite being chocked and TV in park and E-brake on. Something is not right with this design or my pin box.
Is there anything bigger then the 20K? I'm looking at the Riverstone 419RD with a GVWR of 21k
Get a Gen-Y gooseneck wayyyy better with torsion flex
Why?
@@BTBRVReviews cheaper and you get the torsion flex giving the camper a smooth ride
@@Mattcandy123 You are Absolutely 💯% spot on👌
We have the Gen-Y Executive hitch on our Alliance Valor 40v13 and it rides nice behind our Ram Truck.
Plus as you mentioned it was less expensive than if I had bought the kingpin hitch to fit the puck system.
23 hundred dollars???
Buy the Gen-Y and put the extra grand in the fuel tank 😂🤣
Have a Grand Design Reflection 150 Model 260rd, can I use a 3rd Gen system without Lippert Warranty Issues ?
Does this model fit the lippert 1621 pin box?
Is this guy an engineer or a senior technical trainer?
Only 8 bolts to hold it on to the frame?
Compatible with rhino box set up ??
Yes it is!
Still won’t work with the turning point pin box 😢
So does this mean that my 1.5 yr old gen2 cannot be converted to fit the new RhinoBox? That does not seem quite right...
Well, from an engineering standpoint, it was never designed to fit the newer rhino frame. So it would make sense that Reese would not want you to drill through it and possibly compromise the engineering.
Does this goosebox give more turning clearance for short bed trucks?
Possibly more than the Gen2. I'll let you know when we test!
Do they adaptor plates to fit a 2021 rockwood 2881s
will it work on a 16,500 pound fifth wheel?
Yes
It would be nice if the guy explaining all the stuff would answer our questions on here instead of people who just own one.
