I personally worked at a Dodge dealership and about 2 months ago the representatives from Dodge came in to have a meeting letting everyone know how it will go and one thing that grabbed my attention was that they is that they said as of Jan 1 2024 it will be completely illegal to build their V8 engines. I didn't believe they were going to go either but after hearing that i am very unsure.
We just bought a 22 Hellcat WB and for the price difference you can mod the crap out of the hellcat and put it around 850 rwhp for about 15k and still save money.

Youre wrong. The V8 will continue with some trucks, and possibly two more years of the TRX. The plant is being retooled, and unions are renegotiating their new positions. V8 components arent even being made, and only current stock is being used for the 23 models. If you want to hope, sure...go ahead. People supposedly want EVs, even those that have no possible way of charging them living in high rises.
Dodge is moving away from the formula that brought them success. People say that the muscle cars were a small percentage (20%). The innovation they put into these Cars made the rest of their vehicles successful. They need to feel it in their bank accounts. I've bought Dodge exclusively for 12 years now. No more. I actually think the L cars will live on for another 3-5 years while they are making the full move to EV. It would make no sense to develop a new car from the ground up using the Hemi and Hellcats for 5 years. But... It will be based on the Hurricane V6 Turbo engines and be refreshed. Considering Biden is in office into 2025 at least, along with Bootyjudge who enacted the policy, that kills any chance of repeal until 2026… by which point, it will be too late to revive these cars. Maybe SUVs with high margins will live on and overcome carbon credits, but even Camaro (not even a refresh) and Mustang (only a refresh) have been let to die on the vine due to this. We might have a GT500 limited production for one final year, then that’ll be it. HEMI cars are done, DOA. Even if they started development already, there’s no point in finishing.
That will be great for the buyer, but it’s telling that the Mustang update is much like the New Edge revision: same bones, same guts, a fresh look, and some tweaks. Rather than using the CD6 architecture, the S550 mostly carries on, and this minimizes fixed costs and necessary production run duration. Perhaps because they saw the writing on the wall before CAFE was ever frozen by the SAFE cars rule. Then there’s GM, which has hardly even poked at the Camaro’s setup since ‘16. The paradox of this problem relates to the volume issue you pointed out-EVs are made of scarce inputs-and to equip V8s in large quantities, the EVs will need to be ramped up even faster to compensate. It is a tricky tightrope to walk, and I don’t think that it’s going to be a profitable one for most carmakers in coming years. IIRC Stellantis spent billions on carbon credits last year, up steeply, and for instance it takes 4 Taycan sales to build one GT3 in EU (emissions-wise). A $40-60k Challenger probably won’t have the margins to justify these increasing fees. It will be interesting to see how long S650 sticks around (and if it is joined by new competitors somehow), and I look forward to seeing your impressions. Going to be an improvement on a very rapid car and hopefully will stick around.

The reason people are waiting has nothing to do with the engine, it’s the semiconductor issue. They’ve got a lot of V8s.

We might have a GT500 limited production for one final year, then that’ll be it.

That will be great for the buyer, but it’s telling that the Mustang update is much like the New Edge revision: same bones, same guts, a fresh look, and some tweaks. Rather than using the CD6 architecture, the S550 mostly carries on, and this minimizes fixed costs and necessary production run duration. Perhaps because they saw the writing on the wall before CAFE was ever frozen by the SAFE cars rule. Then there’s GM, which has hardly even poked at the Camaro’s setup since ‘16. The paradox of this problem relates to the volume issue you pointed out-EVs are made of scarce inputs-and to equip V8s in large quantities, the EVs will need to be ramped up even faster to compensate. It is a tricky tightrope to walk, and I don’t think that it’s going to be a profitable one for most carmakers in coming years. IIRC Stellantis spent billions on carbon credits last year, up steeply, and for instance it takes 4 Taycan sales to build one GT3 in EU (emissions-wise). A $40-60k Challenger probably won’t have the margins to justify these increasing fees. It will be interesting to see how long S650 sticks around (and if it is joined by new competitors somehow), and I look forward to seeing your impressions. Going to be an improvement on a very rapid car and hopefully will stick around.
@@SamCarLegion But Ford has a lot more MPG friendly cars which puts them in the CAFE’s standards so the get to keep making V8s. And Dodge is keeping the Challenger and the Charger but instead of the Hemi we’ll have an Inline 6 Hurricane
@@DetektiveKevo Ding. That is what most do not realize about Dodge, they do not have any cars like this that sell in volumes like Ford and Chevy. That is also the purpose of the new Hornet. If that can catch on they can put out fun cars with slightly worse MPGs. Some people just do not get it, but yet they have a TH-cam channel. Oh the days in which we live.
But Dodge also announce that they’re going to be retooling the factory to get ready for the Evies and others and that’s the big thing when a car manufacturer gets rid of all the equipment to make the challenger and charger cars and re-tools for the EV cars there’s no coming back from that the amount that it cost to re-till the factory is astronomical once you get rid of all the machines there’s no coming back from that

I have nothing personally agains ice cars but I completely am flummoxed by enthusiasts desire to make themselves deaf with defeated muffling devices despite most people finding loud cars and bikes obnoxious. Like it sounds good as it is, why turn it up so loud that the entire neighborhood has to stop what they are doing while you go by.
