  • Nile has the chance to visit the Canadian west coast for the first time, and to help him explore British Columbia he has the 2024 Nissan Rogue Platinum to see what's changed with this small mid-cycle facelift.

    Over his adult life, Nile has visited most of the major Canadian cities and provinces, but never got further west than Banff, AB. This past week he had the opportunity for a trip to Vancouver, BC with a few days up in Whistler. We take this updated 2024 Nissan Rogue Platinum AWD along with us to see how this new 1.5L 3 cylinder variable compression turbo engine performs at higher altitudes, along with twisty, winding roads through the mountains. Nile goes over the other changes that come with the 2024 model year.
    We then hit the roads of Whistler, BC to talk about the overall driving experience this compact crossover offers, along with our thoughts on what this vehicle is missing, and areas that have been improved. Our fuel efficiency rating in-video was based on all driving from fuel up, which included driving through downtown Vancouver, and up to Whistler. The final results after dropping the vehicle back off ended up closer to 7.2L/100km.

    Consumers to Nissan: please put a reliable transmission in your cars. Nissan: hold my variable compression engine...

      We'll have to see how these VC-Turbos do long term, as it's been a few years since Nissan/Infiniti launched them. I do agree a better, more reliable transmission should have been a priority.

    Enjoy the province, Nile! I have a terrible BC confession: I've only been to Whistler once, I'm out in the Vancouver burbs.

    I hate to admit it, but the interior and driving dynamics make this really attractive to people who don't know the Jatco CVT history.. maybe a good lease option.. I like the new Kicks too, at sub 25k it's attractive, but needs a 6mt so the dismal 140hp would be usable.
    Great reviews here as usual..

    This is better buy than the kicks, Rogue CRV, or RAv4 are better buys

    I would rather drive the Off-Roader (appearance package only) version of the Rogue, although, I gotta admit that one is looking pretty good! But the Rogue has received
    negative feedback regarding a lack of power & that three cylinder with a full load ain't gonna cut it...I'd rather have the bigger version (Pathfinder).
    I wish you could compare the Equinox & Rogue, both have the looks, but the Honda & Toyota have what it takes underneath the hood & that's what counts,
    at least as far as I'm concerned.

      Fair enough! We didn't find tis engine to be an issue with the 3 of us and luggage, I suppose if you had 4-5 adults and a completely filled trunk it might struggle a bit but I imagine most people who buy this aren't going to have that kind of load in the vehicle, at least not consistently.

    Too bad you didn't have time to take it up to the Coquihalla Summit from Hope B.C., elevation ~ 1200 meters. The highway gains elevation of about 1000-1100m over about 40km to the summit at 120km/hr speed limit. Mostly 2 lane in both directions but there is one section just before the summit over about 10km where it is a steep 3 lanes uphill for about 10km. This stretch would have been the test of the engine. In the first 10-15 years after this highway opened a lot of what I believe were turbo Audi's and a few others were lost in this stretch due engine fires.

      Interesting! I would have loved to have more time to explore the province, however we only had a few nights in Vancouver and 2 more in Whistler before heading home. Sounds like that would have been a great place to test.

      I did part of that drive during the summer, it's brutal! 😁

      @@yurkshirelad I drove it last week out to Calgary via Hwy 1 and then came back via Hwy 22 in AB and Hwy 3 . Gorgeous country! Used to do Hwy 1 both ways 2 or 3 times a year. I really dislike the return trip in that last 30 km before Hope as it is often raining, dark, you're tired after 8 hours from Calgary, it's a steep downhill and everyone is going too fast. White knuckle road!

      @@carll2222 that was my first time on that route a I only drove for a couple of hours. But it was terrifying as I've not driven that kind of road before. It was also a bad time to find out that the vehicle I'd borrowed needed some brake work! 😂 The scenery was stunning though.

    When you were driving down the mountains, did you notice if the Rogue attempted do to some sort of engine braking?

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Nothing that I noticed, I had to ride the brakes any time we were going downhill.

    Is it true that if anything inside the engine block breaks, it can't be repaired and the block has to be replaced en masse?

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I mean usually that would be a problem for any engine I imagine, but given the added complexity of how the variable compression engine works I suppose the repair/replacement requirements would be different.
