    Thanks Lee. Couldn’t have done it without you. I am an old school 2 channel RC glider pilot from the 80’s. Tremendous learning using all these build videos and others for soldering and cramping skills etc. Appreciate you. See you in the air.

    After watching this video I decided to convert my volantex ranger 2000 to vtol. Ardu pilot is a steep learning curve I went a little insane there for a time but I think I have it almost sorted now. Keep up the good work .

    This is video is part of a series and I cover that change needed in the next video in this series. This is not meant as a standalone video.
    Please keep in mind that this video is documenting my first time journey building this particular VTOL and I am using a setup guide from someone else (that included this motor setup error). This video is designed to be watched as a series.

      Hi Lee, not sure if you've see or not, but I have a detailed step by step build tutorial for the T1 VTOL on my channel, which includes all the correct programming steps. Might be a better setup guide for you to use? Mine is also flying fairly well too, so if you use the same settings as me yours should fly well too

      @@Painless360 I haven't had chance to tune mine yet (been terrible weather here for weeks!) however mine is flying pretty good using stock settings. Top tip though (that I didn't include in my tutorial) is to disable weathervaining entirely. It's a optional step, but it'll make the aircraft much easier to control during takeoff landing, otherwise you'll constantly be fighting the yaw

    Wow man. This seems way more complicated than setting up a quad in Betaflight. I figured this would be easier. I'm glad you did this step by step video so I can follow along.

    Thanks Lee, this has given me the courage to try out ardupilot for at least one plane. I do think there must be some way for the iNav devs to implement vtol. The autonomous feature set it has vs Betaflight means that vtol capability would surely fit in well with they general nature of iNav as a flight software.

    Wow, that's a lot of work compared to iNav. I gave up on Ardupilot twice, but planning to give it another try in a near future on a brand new frame. Let's see how it will go. Thanks by the way for this tutorial.

      Well, considering INAV doesn't support VTOL, it's Hobson's choice at the moment for VTOL software.

      I was able to get the controller to work in inav but not in adrupilot days barometer error not sure what I did wrong

    Could I use the steps in this video to setup the T-2 cruza VTOL. all the videos out the are using INav but I would like to get into mission planner. Do you plan on building the T2 VTOL?

    I'm not getting Aircraft voltage, Avg Cell voltage, or RSSI showing on the OSD. Is there a setting I'm missing to get this setup that your video didn't cover?

      @@Painless360 DJI O3. I got it figured out, decimal was selected and RSSI was set to 2, and needed to be 3 from crossfire.

    Lee I see you disabled the airspeed sensor. Was that because that flight controller cannot accept an airspeed sensor? Or was that because there isn't room on the airframe? Something else? Thanks.

      @@Painless360 thanks Lee - my question was more specifically - why did you choose not to use an airspeed sensor? Of course it adds a bit of complexity/cost/weight, but doesn't the added operational capability make up for that? I was even thinking arduplane/VTOL actually required an airspeed sensor? I'm wondering what went into your decision not to use an airspeed sensor, and then what were the pros and cons? Thanks again.

      Ah! I understand. You don't need an airspeed sensor for Ardupilot but having one is very handy (see the other VTOL series on the channel). It'll work fine without it for basic VTOL.

    Hi Lee- After the accelerometer cal, there is a level calibration. It strikes me that this isn't the same as the 1st accelerometer point (otherwise redundant), but rather a reference for level flight. Should we wait to do this until the FC is mounted in the plane and put the plane in a slightly nose-up attitude (as in level flight)? Or am I reading too much into it?

    Hi! I'm stucked when trying to connect an elrs receiver to matekf404vtol on ardupilot. I'm using tx2rx2 but I can't get channels reading. Receiver get solid red once I turned on my boxer and mission planner can't connect if my boxer is turned on.

    Great series! I have mine built and I'm starting to test hover. I was having problems getting enough motor thrust to climb in hover. I was running 3S. I noticed that some others are running 4S on this model. Are you running 3S? Also, would it be possible for you to publish your parameter list as it was when you flew your T1? Thanks inadvance!

    I have the V2 with 4.3.5firmware and out of the box parameters, would you happen to know why the right motor servo over-rotates every time I land in VTOL mode, which causes prop strike between the prop and wing/engine mount. It's every time when it lands and I can't stop it 😭
    Wondering if there is a parameter to stop the tilt servos moving too far towards the wing, at this rate I won't have too many more landings left.

      @@Painless360 I totally understand, it's a shame because (apart from that) it flew great right out of the box, I can't be the only one with this problem, but Heewing keep telling me to use the latest 'stable' firmware, which I am 🤦🏻‍♂️.

    Late to the party here🙂. Lee, do you think the tilt control can be migrated to a slider/Pot on the Tx? This would make the transition (no pun intended) from "Qhover" to forward flight more realistic aka the Osprey/AW609! Thanks for all your awsome videos.

    howdy Lee. I need to know if i should keep learning ardupilot or should i wait for inav to come out with vtol support end of this year . I suppose that ardupilot has had vtol for awhile it would be more develpoed . Also i heard inav is more for quads or racing.

      I don't expect INAV to be as complete as Ardupilot in their first release of VTOL support. It'll be interesting to see how close the team get to a stable, flexible, reliable and robust VTOL implementation on their first try... Happy flying

    Another Great video, i have two Vtol Q-planes with this tilt setup. I see that you have your tail motor setup as "Motor7/tilt tail", but shouldn't it be "Motor4" with the tri frame type?

    Is it worth the trouble of converting the t1 into a vtol? Also how are the flight times vs a normal ranger t1? Same, better or worse flight times?

      That is subjective. VTOL version is heavier with more drag so flight times impacted.

      You should be able to copy the q_ settings across once you've enabled Quadplane on the new FC.... Best of luck

      That wasn't in the instructions I was following. That is the setting in the Xiake800 so stay tuned for the final video...

    Hi Lee Steve again another quick question in regards to the nebula pro vista kit it comes with a wire harness pigtail call it what you want I guess it’s the power cord question is why does it come with a plug on the end of it on the other end the wires are bare there tend to be soldered on I was trying to figure out where the plug was that plugged into or just how that worked I did see how you worried up your radio mine is a little different not much but a little different was just wondering what the power cord was for before I start cutting plugs off the end thanks Steve

    Hi, should I want to add more servo capability that the fc can handle, can I re-assign the pwm outputs on the receiver and bypass the fc for those specific channels?
    It seems wanting to add head tracking, independent ailerons, elevator, rudder, and anything extra would be more than what the fc can do…

    I was wondering if TBS Crossfire is supported by ArduPilot with TX2/RX2 connection and if so, what do i need to do to get it going? I am not getting anything on the Radio Calibration screen.
    If not, just switch it to SBus?

      @@Painless360 In Qhover mode, it's like fliying on circles then when trying to compensate yaw it's like not responding. I made all of that. But also have a doubt, the tilt servos should move when using the yaw in Qhover? Mine doesn't move, I Guess that is correct.

    I get barometer error reflashed to a different program and it works any idea what I did wrong to not get it to work with adrupilot

The hex file for adrupilot is probably corrupt. My Internet is horrible. I'm using the speedybee f405 wing for the t1 ranger I just finished the vtol conversation. Anyway happy flying

    howdy. I heard inav 7 , coming out at end of year , will have vtol. Is it easier to use inav then ardupilot ? Then, we are to use bing maps on our inav , using microsoft edge. Cant we use google chrome and google maps ? Thoughts ? Im an rc flier for many years, was in the army when our sams used at first vacuem tubes , then transistors then ics . . Now i just dot my tx 16s mk11 , and the exresslrs ranger and a er4 receiver, moving on up !

      I would, until INAV have a few versions under their belt. VTOL is HARD. Ardupilot code is still being optimised and improved and has a lot of years head start on INAV for VTOL..

    can u help me..i got issue on my setup,when i'm on qloiter mode my throttle jumping variable,cant move from 0-100,but when stablize mode/plane mode it works normally..same part on video i use

      The throttle works a little differently in this mode. I cover it in VTOL videos, see ardupilot.org/plane/docs/qloiter-mode.html where the throttle differences and settings are covered. The Ardupilot docs are always worth a read if you don't understand something, best of luck

    Hi Lee I hope you had some good holidays I contacted you a little while ago about this build with the first video I see now you’re working with this Flight controller so I assume you started the second video with the electronics my question is are you doing digital or analog for the video and also do you have a video out for the electronics Where you show inside the plane from scratch as you did with the first video and showing all of the components that you use along with the flight controller reason I ask this as I mention the first time I talk with you I knew absolutely nothing about FPV at all so of course I’ve screwed up a little bit I didn’t know the difference between digital and analog so some of the components I bought based on watching someone’s video was for analog not digital you see I have the DJI goggles so everything has to be digital in my set up but it’s all good I’m moving along I’m using the radio master zorro with Crosfire for the transmitter DJI goggles v2 I do have someone here locally helping me a little bit plus videos I watch from you guys so hopefully will get this thing together I will say this though if I knew how complicated this build was from the beginning I may 😮 given it second thoughts to doing this it’s not like my plane i fly where I put gas in it and go that’s for sure OK thanks a lot for the videos and I’ll be looking for that second video thanks again Steve

    13:03 i did everything up to thus point enabling q_enable and disconnecting the fc and reconnecting it and now my fc wont reconnect to arduplane any idea on how to fic it?

    Hi Lee, Matek F405 VTOL is an excellent opportunity for my students because it's not expensive, but buying a complete T1 is not an option for many of them. Could you produce a series of videos converting an ordinary rc airplane into a VTOL one? Let's say a Bixler generic type plus 4 quadcopters fixed propellers around the wing. Total 4+1 motors using F405 vtol plus ardupilot

    Lee, I want to mention that on the Hee Wing Vtol Conversion Kit page there is a download for their parameters for Arduplane. I used this as a reference when I set mine up and pretty much copied all the Q_ entries into my F405. Here is a flight from mine.       @@Painless360 I've honestly not even gotten into that yet, so they are whatever is default in Arduplane. Been down with the flu for the last 3 weeks and no flying / tinkering. I can say that it does weathervane a little bit. As I make any changes that positively affect flight performance I will notify you of the changes and try to link videos.
