Hay boss, quick question. I made a wash 4 weeks ago like u explained in the video, but it took 2 weeks for it to stop bubbling - fermenting! And it tasted a bit sour after i put it through the still, what did u do wrong?
Hi, I forgot to add carbon when i was mixing up sugar and yeast. It is been 24 hrs of my mixture and i can smell of firmentation starts . My question is can i mix carbon now in my solution? Pls reply
Why will my wash not clear after three days? I followed the instructions carefully. Is there a way of adding more Turbo Clear? Edit. I added another Turbo Clear and raised the temperature to 24C with an immersion heater. This cleared sufficiently to distil. Obviously, clear spirit produced. Not crystal clear as Mr Blackwell's was.
It depends on how cold, the yeast does slow down as it gets colder, but it will just stop if it gets too cold. I can't remember the temp of the top of my head sorry, a google search should tell you easily though.
If your wash is to cold it won't really activate the yeast, it will take longer. And if its to hot you will damage the yeast and you won't get a decent brew. That's why you have to check the temperature. Hope this was of some help. 30 deg is a good wash temp. It will cool down a bit but as long as you have it in a warm area when it is brewing it should sit about 26 deg over the following days.
Just a question on temperature. It's been a while since iv done any brewing, and am currently living in a very warm climate, is it OK to ferment at a higher temp, eg around 28-30? I know from experience that yeast will ferment rapidly at this higher temp, but how would this affect the final product? Iv never done straight sugar washes before, always used a grain base for my ferment, so I'm kind of flying by the seat of my pants, but the theory is sound. Any advice or thoughts?
Hi Richard. I’m thinking of buying one of these air stills and this is probably a silly question but do spirits need any maturing or are they ready to go after mixing the flavour.
They are ready to drink once flavour is added. If you wanted you can before you add flavour for example if you wanted to make bourbon. Here in New Zealand we can purchase bourbon chips, you put them in your distilled alcohol for as long as you like. I prefer about a month then you take them out, then you add your flavouring. The idea is that you get the actually cask flavour which is more enjoyable.
Before trying to remove off yeast flavours ask yourself, why is it doing it in the first place. Have distillers of the past used turbo carbon? No. They just fermented correctly the first time.
I like that, you can see it's gone a little bit cloudy, while looking through a cloudy white bucket :D Love it.
Thanks Richard for great help and have placed an order with you
G'day mate 🇦🇺🍺🍺🍺🍺you are a great teacher, I'm learning a lot of you and your videos, fantastic
Hi Richard I have found if you put the turbo carbon in your pocket to warm as it makes it so easy to poor & no lumps
so fresh water the best, do you recommend filtered water or bottle boiled in a clean kettle ?
Richard do you ever use invert sugar aka boil for 20mins + with some citric acid

Does the airlock stop bubling wen its finished ?
For example if i will put 2 packs yeast it means 42 litres water and 2 packs carbon? Or i can put only 1 carbon pack?
i love your program you added 7 bags of sugar i like to know how many kg in each bag thanks
It's 6x 1 kilo of sugar or 7x 1 kilo of brewing sugar (this has a % of unfermentable sugar in which is why we need slightly more)
thank you it is very helpful much appreciated
I'm doing the 48 for 20% alc and it's really stinking out my room!
Carbon added?
Hi,
I forgot to add carbon when i was mixing up sugar and yeast. It is been 24 hrs of my mixture and i can smell of firmentation starts . My question is can i mix carbon now in my solution? Pls reply
Yes. and then mix ones and a while and leave so for a few days.

You are bonkers does a fake tan help the final product truly love you
Each bag of sugar of how many KG's???
Could you mix the glucose and sugar together?
Can I stir my sugar wash as it's stopped fermenting after two days it's a spirit base kit ?
Shouldn't be necessary to stir. I would give it a try and then make sure the lit and waterlock is airtight. Maybe it got to hot or to cold?
Is the wash preparation (temps and SG) the same for the T500 ?
just a question, if its quite cold will it take longer for the fermentation to complete? or will it not work at all?
It depends on how cold, the yeast does slow down as it gets colder, but it will just stop if it gets too cold.

Hey mate, a wet towel wrapped around it with a fan blowing on it seems to work the trick for us in Australia.
Hi I'm from new Zealand
Could one use basic activated carbon?
food grade? No NaOH in it ;-) There is activated carbon with caustic still in it.
What is the weight of 1 bag of sugar?
@Proud Joyless FeministXX Thank you!
@@MrBillTroop73 He is using Kilos so each bag is 2.2 pounds..
So... is that 6kg (total) of white granulated sugar to make a wash?
Hi! Yes its 6 kilos of any type of granulated sugar or 7 kilos of Brewing / Glucose sugar

An Aussie Farming in the Philippines nice one mate. Thanks for replying. 👍

ray Martin?
What bout if you want to add flavor?
Not at this point in time, after distilling.
Just a quick question, isnt home distilling of alcohol illegal in uk?
🤫
So is speeding, apparently. Same result.
Am I the only one who prefers sugar over glucose?

basically , don't waste your time with cheap still and corner cutting and you won't need to buy all these products for life.
Aim for 10% potential ABV and you shouldn't have a yeast taste issue. Don't rush.
Methinks the Yanks were using the term "wash" long before the Kiwis. Thanks for the info.
