    Reminds me of the 72 I had. I alway felt the Maverick was overlooked.

      My dad had a 72 mod Maverick with the 302 Boss engine and 4 speed manual gearbox, man that car was a blast when I was a kid. He never lost a race in that car, not sure of the quarter mile times but it had way more power than Ford advertised it at 😉

    Beautiful little Ford, good job friend. Your successful born-again Maverick makes me wish I had a big enough garage to buy a Comet cousin to your car.
    Good luck & good health from Massachusetts!

    My first car that ran lol was a 72 Maverick 200 co 6 cylinder auto that I drove for a few years...then I gave it to my father who drove it like 50 miles round trip to work most daily for another 3 or so years until the Pennsylvania roads took it to its rusty grave. Someday I would love to have another 72 version of the Grabber like this one painted flat black with old school aluminum slotted mags etc.

    If I would have had your Maverick back in the day, I'd have kept her. Mine was a turdball three on the tree straight six. You don't see these old Mavericks very often, so it's nice to see yours turn out so nice. I bet you get a lot of "I used to have one of these" stories. Great job on the build!

    I agree, a 73 with a 72 Grabber hood. My son found a 74. We put 73 bumpers and quarter extensions on it and a 72 Grabber hood. It really changed the look of the car. Of course the 18" wheels, a 9" disc brake rear end and a few other nice touches didn't hurt. Thanks for the comment.

    I agree with you. They were a bit of an anomaly (I've heard comments like "my grandpa had one of those"). They are now becoming quite popular. Parts on eBay are bringing some insane prices. The one in this video belongs to my best friend. He bought it from me, we did a large part of the work after he bought it. I am building a 1970 V8, 4-Speed Maverick right now. Hopefully will be running this summer. :)

  • @Pikespeak67
    @Pikespeak67  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree, Mavericks have always been a favorite of mine. I have built over 10 of them. Yes, much about the car remains original. We converted it to a 4 speed, but It looks factory. We even put a set of (re-upholstered) Maverick bucket seats in it. Good luck with your car. I'll get the video posted as soon as we rip up the 1/4 mile.

    *Whistles* Absolutely gorgeous grabber Pikespeak67! This was very tastefully done, from the beautiful paint, to the powerhouse! This is probably the nicest grabber I've ever seen, which happens to be my favorite muscle car :). How much is that rare 332 stroker putting out? Around 400hp I'd imagine? Man I'd love to hear the finished exhaust, sounds good as is already!

    • @Pikespeak67
      @Pikespeak67  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you cybertree. It did turn out very well. It definitely gets some attention when my friend gets it out on the local streets. It's one of my favorites as well. I've had and built over 10 of them through the years. We estimate the engine to be putting out in the range of 350hp conservatively. The exhaust was capped up, but wasn't quite sealing properly. We had to change out the flanges and added a pair of cut-outs to make it easier to "uncap" it. It really sounds good and is quite fast. Makes for a fun test-drive (:

    • @Pikespeak67
      @Pikespeak67  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +cybertree
      Thank you. I initially owned the car, it now belongs to my best friend. It's a very sanitary drive-able car. Yes, we suspect the stroker is putting out in the range of 350-400 HP. It's impressively fast. A Top-Loader 4 speed and a practical set of gears with a posi rear diff makes it launch quite well. It's a lot of fun to drive.
      I too am a big fan of Mavericks. I have built more than 10 of them. This one and the one I built after this one are my 2 favorites.

    I have had several 72 Grabbers. I have always likes the looks of the 72. I like the looks of the 73 Grabber as well, although I wish they would have continued using the hood. I think they really ruined the looks of the Maverick in 1974. My son bought a 74 Maverick, and we converted it to 1973 bumpers, and it looks really cool. You can see his car on my website tarantulacustoms.

    Building a Maverick to this level is going to cost well over 10K. That's if you do most of the work yourself. If you need to have it done, it will be a lot more. We were able to do everything except the machine work in our shop. Your engine would not need to be this radical to be fun. This is a nasty small block. We will be making a quarter mile run this spring.
