Great mod! Helpful tip when stripping small wires you can heat the wire with a lighter and it will simply pull off.

There are so many great RGBIC strips and products on amazon that all use the one-wire protocol, it's really great how easy it is to just drop a WLED controller into something and instantly add so much more power. Though sometimes you do get stuck with a red-green-blue-ground LED strip and while those can be neat, they sure are better when replaced with a proper LED strip!

Great mod job one thing to note is on the usb C cable. you mentioned 4 wires and only wanting the red and black. that is correct on the wires for power, however the number of wires could be higher. 4 wires means the usb c cable is 2.0 spec. if the cable is usb 3 or higher spec you will have 9 or more wires inside. the best idea is get a low cost usb c charging cable to mod as a lot of those are like the cable you used or even without the 2 data wire with thicker wires for more power.

    Very cool upgrade Chris!
Quick question, is there a way to code your own WLED effects?

Chris I love your stuff but I do have a question, I see that you normally just use a ESP32 to run WLED. Curious why you have never tried any of the QuinLED boards or products?

How come, you put in the buck converter compared to the original video?

Thanks for watching! Rookie mistake. Since the headphone stand unit has a “dumb” power source, the 12v was being passed to the 5v sk6812 strips. Surprisingly, everything worked just fine which is why I didn’t catch it initially but in theory it should not have worked. (I still don't fully understand why I was not having any issues) The MagWLED-1 controller is able to switch between 5v and 12v power delivery when coming from a usb c type power supply amzn.to/4gBfWUc like I showed in the video I did for the controller. I could have tried swapping out the power supply for a usb c power source but I thought using the buck converter was the simplest and lowest cost solution. Now if you did end up using 12v led strips, then everything would work just fine and you would not need the buck converter so that would be another option.

Chris, I tried hitting you up on Instagram, but thought I’d try here as well.
I’d like to pay you for your time to consult in a music studio I’m working on. Hoping to make this an amazing audio reactive LED space and would love to have your expertise in product selection, design etc. Let me know if you’re interested, or can possibly point me to another expert who could help.
