    just a note: please read the power specification of the PSU, put the current limit on it into WLED (instead of an arbitrary 2000mA) and set the voltage of the LEDs correctly (in the dropdown on the WLED LED settings page, select either 12V or 24V, I don't know which one they used) so that WLED can correctly calculate how bright it can drive the LEDs without tripping the PSU's overcurrent protection. I do not expect you to have any issues but by using a non-ideal value you may be artificially limiting how bright the strip can run. In the video, the strip looked brighter before your WLED conversion and it doesn't have to.

    How about a parking guide in a garage? Guide and alignment and stop point based on sensor inputs that adjust light sequence, color, speed. Different colors to go left/right, different speed and color for distance remaining to go, some sort of color or pattern change for stopping. That could be fun.

      Jump in. You'd be surprised at how approachable it is and regardless of how much money you make/have you'll appreciate the crazy amount of savings. Also, you don't necessarily need to solder. Clip on connectors will solve for 90% of all joining solutions and the newer ones provide a close to seamless connection. You'd need a magnifying glass to tell. And if you didn't want to mess around with power supplys there are quality ready made solutions out there for even powering a single tiny strip all the way up to 16ft (depending on 30/60/120 of course. And you'll still see a 50% savings over Govee after buying diffusers and channels.

I've been thinking, if there was a way to have a diode on the data line maybe, so you could leave both the ESP and Govee pieces connected full time and not have to physically switch between the 2, if that makes sense. What’s the point in making a separate controller? Seems like a lot of extra work considering you can just plug and play with the app. Yes there’s certain niche cases like you said, but in most cases just get a longer set if you want a larger portion to be “seamless”.
    TLDR: unless you have a niche diy need, the regular software works fine. It doesn’t do certain very specific effects and it has a few limitations but not any that most won’t be fine with.

      100% agree. Govee does very well because they make good products and their app is full of features. However, WLED software has a huge following and is in my opinion the best.

      @tony_bauer 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because you’re limited to whatever the longest they provide is. The controller is preset to handle the amount of LED’s the regular rgb strip has and nothing more. If you want more than 16.4 ft, you have to go with WLED.

    The method of reversing the strip in the diffusion must reduce the light output by a lot...maybe as much as 90%. What do you think? Is product only suitable for accent designs or could it be used for some general illumination, albeit in a limited way?

    Chris you are one of my favorite content creators thanks for what you share on TH-cam. I got a govee outdoor neon rope light 10meter strip. And I'm hoping to buy 2 more as I can afford them. I was thinking wled is a good way to control all 3 strips as one. I plan to line the rim of my pool with them. Too bad there isn't a single govee 30 meter strip. Anyways I don't wanna disect my light strip and I can't see how many leds are in the rope lights for the input on the wleds software... this is probably a newb question but I hope you can hook me up. Thanks

    I have a few smart LED lights in our house all work fine apart from Govee, they drop off the network & refuse to rejoin, it’s hard to trace their ip,address but when I did & assigned it a fixed address for 2.5ghz the bloody thing still looses connection. I’ve given up now & we switch them manually as are simply too unreliable, their support is useless. Maybe I can hack them with WLED? I will never use Govee again!

    Ughh the fact that Govee is yet to update the API is such a buzzkill. I actually did some projects such as this but went with Cololight. Their app used to be spot on but, they updated and I didn't like it. So, the 4 ESP32s W/ mic became WLED aware. Well, that turned into the 4x(300LED) 5V strips becoming sacrificial tributes to 40x(30LED) 5V strips to make a 5V-1200LED Matrix Panel for Visuals when DJing.
    TL;DR - ISO a way to crack the 12V Govee controllers I have for science reasons ;)
    Enjoyed the vid, hope to catch some more ideas you have and maybe even be able to toss some ideas around for future usecases.
