    Love the build and walkthrough. As someone who hates wires hanging about I've used the Velcro and sticky tape options in the past...just watch out for pull away, especially with electronics that generate heat. Another recommendation for future builds, wipe the surface of whatever you are placing that tape on with some rubbing alcohol prior to placement (so long as it won't hurt the surface of the table or whatever) and make sure it's dry, then place the tape. If you are going to be placing something heavy, use an industrial 3m style tape or Velcro and ensure it's setup (treat like a glue) for a little bit first before having the full weight pull against it. Finally, sometimes due to weight, screw based wire management clips just need to be used... It sucks, but sometimes it's all that will ultimately work.

      Thanks so much!! I plan on making a follow up video of using LedFx with the setup. With LedFx you can assign different controllers to react to different sound frequencies so my idea was to maybe have 1 leg respond to the deep bass, another leg to the mids, and another one to the highs. I could certainly be wrong but I'm not sure if that could be done using 1 esp device.

    Looks great! I am not sure what the benefit of using 4 ESP32's, but this could be done with just 1 using 4 pins. Virtual strips can be configured inside of the WLED web interface where you can assign individual pins, so they act independently. If you were using esp8266 boards I could understand the multiple units, but a ESP32 can handle that many LEDS without breaking a sweat, and seems like it would be nicer to manage under one WebUI. Keep up the great work, I do enjoy your projects.

I haven't played around with LedFx a ton but I was not sure if that could be accomplished with only having 1 esp32 controller with different pins controlling the entire thing. Do you know if that is possible doing what I want to do with just 1 controller?

    Definitely an EPIC result! One of the cleanest i've seen on TH-cam for leds on a desk. It would be really cool if you had the aluminum channels powder coated white. Probably cost less than $100 to do that. Also you should use spade Lug crimp terminals instead of the ferrules for the screw down connectors on the power supply.

    I have been talking to an LED distributor for awhile about a custom lighting project I am working on. When you bend your LED in a 90 around the desk, its creating somewhat of a coil effect. Each LED light is rated for a certain amount of bend. I only know this because they told me "No" to what I wanted to do. So I will be soldering all my joints. This distributor told me it could result in a shortened life of the LED strip. I dunno if that is something you have experienced. Just what I ran into, in my own LED journey toward creating my own fun filled environments.

    The desk took allot of twists at first, like you said wanted to make it more interesting by adding lights to the legs, the cable management is a killer, always plan and make sure to get that right in the process it will safe you tons of time when it comes to scrap down and rebuild on a newer desk. I notice the m1 can be done the same way without the board, but I like how this turned out. Love white but not for this sort of project still came out badass. The lights made this desk one of a kind for sure, its a winner for its unique style. Job well done.

    My guy, this is awesome. Ur Channel is life changing. U actually inspired me to do more stuff like this especially with the baseboards video and desk set up. The attention to detail is amazing. In my line of work attention to detail is everything. You got to know everything as from as to get from point a to point b, to know ur targets, to know ur escape routes, know your surroundings and to a whole lot more. I've been in a lot of different places and seen alot and have been some what amazed by ppl. But u have amazed me by ur craftsmanship and skills. Again u make me want to do the samething. We are told when we are home from any deployments or work we have to find a stress relief hobby and I think something like what u are doing is fun. Maybe I'll build me a gaming room or sports room. With a game system, theater, pool table, somewhere to watch UFC fights and the superbowl and invite my team. I know u must had some struggles along the way with things but u got it to work and that's called honing your craft. And that's nothing but praise my guy. Keep up the good work. Respect to you. I definitely gave u a follow.

    so with the leds on the legs does that stop it from being able to rise into a standing desk?

    A little tip from experience: I would definitely advise against using duckt tape on cables, since it can leave a really gooey and sticky residue, which is really hard to get off.

    You gave me the idea to do a 3/4 to 1inch thick desk top and mull out the ends of the desk to inlay the LED strips inside the desk and put a flat diffuser that goes in flush with the ends of the desk

  • @enderdragon1845
    @enderdragon1845 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Overtime i feel like the muzata raceways would just start falling off bc i rest my elbows all the time around the edge of my desk, I think milling or making a channel in the desk border itself may have been better and looked a bit cleaner but nonetheless. Love ur vids man and thanks for the great vid chris :)

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much! Yeah time will tell. I do know though that I was pretty much pivoting the entire weight of the desk on the diffuser channels when flipping the table over and they did not budge. You certainly could do the milling although for this particular setup it wouldn't work since the diffuser channels are the same thickness of the desk. I was going for a not so permanent solution so if down the road I don't wan leds, I can take them down and the desk will look brand new.

    • @enderdragon1845
      @enderdragon1845 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisMaherDIY True in terms of it not being more permanant what you did was probably best, also do you have any plans on messing around with black acrylic panels in the future? recently they've intrigued me a lot to see if they really are worth the hype

  • @Ultimaus

    So ive been thinking about this for a while... I mean this looks great in the video but the problem with video is just how lenses distort light. would you say the led density is perfect? Would you sayvit looks better in person? or would you say hold out for 80 or 100 led light strip models.
    The reason light strips are typically hidden and used for ambience is because they're jarring and usually you can see the individual diode. I've seen these models like the govee m1 coming out and slowly with new videos like yours out im more abd more enticed to do diffused lighting with really hidden wires

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. I think it looks better in person than in videos. But as far as the diffusion, the channels I'm using look perfect with a density strip of 60 leds per meter. If you hold out for a strip with 80 or 100 leds/per meter you will certainly have more options when it comes to what diffuser channels but if you're in the US, the muzata ones that I link to in the video are amazing. I also agree that if you can see the individual diodes, it ruins the look (in my opinion) I have yet to find a diffuser channel that is able to perfectly diffuse a strip that only has 30 leds per meter. I'm sure its possible but you would just need a lot of distance between the diod and the diffuser.

    I just bought a standing desk base and am going to DIY my desktop. Lowe’s has that exact white laminated particle board. Curious if you think it’s strong enough for a four monitor setup or do I need to reinforce the desktop from the bottom to make it stronger?

    Well executed, my only problem would be the top of the desk. I would put something on top of it so the desk and the led defuser are covered and flush
