Learn how to change the oil in a mercury 4-stroke outboard in this video from Boats.net. We’re working with a Mercury 20HP 4-stroke motor, and you may have very similar steps for your powerplant.
We’ll start our Mercury 20HP outboard oil change by lifting the motor up to drain out the old oil. When we drain it, we’ll go through the procedure twice. We’ll drain it, then we’ll close it back up and tilt it back down to let more oil settle down into the foot. Then we’ll lift the motor and drain it again.
Then, we’ll remove the oil filter and replace it with a new Mercury outboard oil filter. Then, we’ll refill the motor with fresh oil. The oil capacity on a Mercury 20HP 4-stroke outboard is 1.1 quarts.
How often should you change the oil on your Mercury 20HP 4-stroke motor? Once every 100 hours of run time.

If you turn the motor as if turning sharp right, so the oil drain hole is at an angle you get less oil running down the leg as it drains.

I'll bet it took longer to clean the oil off that motor then it did to change it. You got it all over everything you touched with those gloves.

It would be helpful if Mercury would settle on a single correct oil filter for this series of engines. Mine came with one model number, but the kit contained a different oil filter model number, and even that was
different than the one the kit claimed to contained. How in the world do you know if you have the correct filter???

oil 10w30 or 25w50?
25w 50 is more synthetic normally using for verado engines 10w 30 is enough for small engine
@@mohdzack9163 can it go 10-40?
it has a temperature range the guy at mercury dealer suggested going to the 25w 40 in summer with warm water and high speed driving the 10w 30 is better in cold weather below 40 or just all around use
