- A balcony cabin, where the balcony faces INSIDE the ship? It doesn't sound possible, but it is! I spent 7 days 'neighbourhood balcony' cabin on Symphony of The Seas, and here's what I thought.
Normally if you take a cruise in a balcony cabin you can look forward to views of the ocean and the ports that you’ll be visiting. That is not what happened on my last cruise though because I stayed in what is called a ‘neighbourhood balcony cabin’ which although it did have a balcony, it had no clear view of the ocean.

It is one of the most controversial cabins at sea and definitely one of the strangest cabins I’ve ever had, I saw and heard some weird things from here too.
There are plenty of videos and reviews online that warn others not to stay in the cabin but as I didn’t want to pay the price of a oceanview facing balcony and this one was much cheaper, I decided to give it a go.
I usually cruise in inside cabins anyway that don’t have any windows so I figured, it must be a step up from that. The ship that I was sailing on was Symphony of The Seas which is one of the biggest and most exciting ships in the world and I was so happy and excited to have a cruise booked on her, I’d have stayed in a cupboard or a lifeboat if it was the only way I could get on this ship, still I hoped that I wouldn’t regret my decision to book this cabin. I’d been looking forward to this cruise for years.
I booked what is called a guaranteed cabin meaning that I was guaranteed to get at least what I booked but I didn’t get to pick the specific location. Doing this saved me a little bit of money and usually what happens when you book a guaranteed cabin is that you get assigned the leftover cabins. That is probably what happened here, everybody who is willing to pay to pick their rooms does and then the guarantees are assigned.

On a merry go round, the horses are fixed. On a carousel, the horses go up and down. 👍🏾

Hope you get this. Thought I’d let you know about the relief band. It’s an fda approved product for motion sickness. It’s a lifesaver for me. I get seasick in the shower it cures it even after you are feeling sick. It looks like a watch and it sends a mild electrical pulse from your wrist to the vagus nerve and you don’t feel sick. They are worth every cent!!

We had an inward-facing cabin overlooking the main avenue on Royal Caribbean, and the piped music on the avenue day and night caused us to request a cabin on a lower deck. To their credit, they gave us a porthole cabin on deck 2. Although the porthole was often swamped underwater, it was blessedly quiet.

On the Oasis they did not start making noise on the boardwalk until 10am. One night the water show ended at 10:45, otherwise It was fine noise wise. Well, one night there was some drunk loud talking, but that happens on ocean view as well.
@barakandl That was our experience as well. We don't go to bed until around midnight and have no problem sleeping.
We've overlooked Central Park twice, the Promenade twice, and we're overlooking the Boardwalk next year. We can look at the ocean from anywhere else on the ship, so we don't have to see it from our room. We love people watching from above - walking through the park, strolling the Promenade, etc. Watching the parties will be a blast!!

My parents stayed in a cabin that overlooks Central Park multiple times by choice. They absolutely love people watching too!
We had a Central Park balcony on Harmony. On formal night, it was so much fun to see all the dressed-up people.
How did you find the noise in Central Park versus the other neighbourhoods? We have been really curious about this!
@coasttocoasters Central Park is quiet. We never had a problem sleeping, but we don't go to bed until around midnight. I could sit on the balcony and read without a problem, too. If it rains, there isn't much activity in the park.
Emma has such a kind demeanor - she never criticizes anything, just saying that things she didn't like are not for her.

The Boardwalk balconies are my absolute favorite especially if I can get one farthest to the back. That way you see everything from the Boardwalk - to the ocean and wake - to the aquatheater. And if you’re on Allure the views are even clearer because the Abyss slide is not there. Just heaven!

Me and my wife love the inside balcony above the park! It's always nice and quiet.

Very strange that they didn't have net curtains, so you could get that light but still have a little privacy from the opposite balconies 🤔🤔
I had a Central Park balcony as a compromise from having 4 people in one Oceanview balcony cabin. We could afford two adjoining rooms instead. My kids loved it because they got their own space and could see into the Central Park Cafe. They were watching crowd sizes to know when to swoop down for a cookie or some 'crisps'! Love your videos Emma... always informative and entertaining!

Something I just noticed, and is quite cute, is how you actually manage to move Captain Hudson around so much to be in the videos as if he were actually walking along beside you. Very nice attention to detail. Keep up the great work!

@@EmmaCruises I think the Celebrity Edge class is the biggest I would do because it's so spacious and the buffet is so huge, you would never feel crowded. Otherwise, we have Christmas Markets 10 day with Avalon on the Danube, then Oceania Vista next Sept and then back to Viking on the Iconic Iceland, Greenland and Canada in 2025.
I always liked and disliked that. Like my man, you're supposed to be an inaccessible authority figure in the distance, but at the sametime the friendliness is cool. I also always think "damn, sure delegating your responsibilities a lot eh?" As I felt like dude was always around during the parties.

Maybe they should have like a sheer curtain as well as the thicker curtain. Giving privacy but still let daylight in.
We were on the same cruise from Barcelona. After seeing this I’m glad we opted for a sea facing balcony.
I LOVE ocean view balconies, but I would totally do a Central Park balcony. I don’t need to see the ocean, I just want the fresh air without having to leave my room!!!

This cabin would be my worst nightmare, cause I need complete darkness and no noises to sleep comfortably. Glad you liked it, but I would never even try to book it

My moms is the same way however the doors completely seal to the extent you practically don’t hear a sound and most importantly their black out curtains make your room next to pitch black especially when you bring two clips to completely seal the light out. My mom slept like a baby 👍

The soot from the ship's funnel was the ONLY drawback we experienced with our Havana cabana stateroom on Carnival Horizon. I didn't mind it too much but my cruise compadre John did. We just learned not to leave any clothes out there to dry and the Havana pool-deck crew did a great job cleaning it up on the public decks and walkways. It depends largely on the prevailing winds during your cruise; it would be possible not to experience any.
The Central Park rooms are much more quiet than the Boardwalk rooms. It is an affordable option to have a balcony and get fresh air and extra space.
Always wondered about staying in a room located in the Boardwalk area. Thank you for sharing your detailed thoughts about the room, noise level and privacy, excellent review!

So the cabins are like a resort. But on a ship. Genius idea. It's a saving money method. Using up the empty spaces to have more available rooms.

We stayed overlooking Central Park and honestly I think I prefer that now. The balcony was a nice place to read and I spent nearly all my time on the solarium anyway when I wanted to look at the ocean
We absolutely loved our balcony overlooking the Boardwalk. I loved people watching and seeing the ocean out the back, watching the water show right from the balcony. Would do it again.

Absolutely LOVE the boardwalk cabins and agreed that deck 11 is ideal - but yes I’d you want total privacy, they’re not the one haha! When you get to choose though, definitely recommend getting as close to the acqua theatre as possible as you also get an ocean view out the back 😉 Also very fun spot on Christmas cruises as Santa usually arrives on the ship in the morning so you get a great view ☺️

I think I'd pay extra to choose a cabin overlooking the park. I say that, but I haven't actually looked at prices. lol The ship and shows look really nice. I'm a light sleeper, but I have a bluetooth headband that I use paired with my phone and a sleep app. It drowns out my husband's snoring so I think I'd be ok. lol

i went on symphony last summer in the caribbean and it was really cool. i’m glad you saw hairspray, that was absolutely my favorite show i’ve seen on any ship, i didn’t even know what it was before i saw it on a whim one night, and fell in love, so i watched it a second time the next night lol. it’s actually gotten me into the musical as a whole and i now love the soundtrack and even watched it on broadway back in april!

We overlooked the promenade and had total privacy. If you just close your curtain it’s dark and private. The huge advantage is that you can people watch and watch the parade go by from your own room. It was perfect unless you want to look at the ocean. It’s also great for sea sick people! I’d do it again.

I prefer this cabin class when I'm sailing on Oasis Class ships. The key is to book the last closest cabins to the Aqua Theater on Deck 9 or higher. You get the Aqua Theater shows and an ocean view.
We've stayed in that cabin as well and we loved it. I enjoyed the trip and we love to switch things up.

Great video Emma. I've always wondered about these cabins. Overlooking the boardwalk would not be a good option for us as my husband has sleep issues. Overlooking Central Park could work though.

I have stayed in those cabins 3 times, love it.
We were in a balcony overlooking the boardwalk as well on Harmony OTS last year. But we were at the highest deck (14 IIRC) just below about where minigolf was. I mentioned it before on an earlier vid/short, about the soot from the engine stacks. Other than that it was cool.

My oldest Royal Caribbean vessel was the Nordic Prince, which I believe became the Carousel in later years. It was beautiful…and microscopic compared to today’s cruise ships.
Loved that ship also, still cruise on smaller ships.

This would be a very tough cabin for us , we would not like to have the curtains closed when we have had a shower or getting changed , prefer more privacy , the iona cabin not so bad as you can't see right in to the cabin 😁♥️. Love the video

My idea of cruise ships and what they are these days are clearly very different things and you’ve done another video showing this. When I first saw this, I was inclined to leave a silly comment, but actually it’s quite educational. in my mind this is just an advanced form of a holiday in Blackpool. My dad used to say this and I wondered what he meant.

Bc of health and finances, a cruise is never going to happen, but I get enormous joy out of traveling vicariously with you. I am a private introvert and you address everything that would concern me. I loved the inside balcony on the Allure sister ship. I was on the Boardwalk as well and the noise was not too bad. I liked the people watching, the fresh air, and the idea that if for some reason something was to fall of the balcony for some reason it might not be lost forever.

Princess Cruise - had a wonderful trip - sea facing balcony room - but tended to loose my way a lot - other passengers were so helpful unlike some of the rude waiters!But it was a great trip& the cabin staff were very efficient & kind.
I'd be into it, I like hotels that have balcony's on the inside looking over a massive indoor Pool area and such.

Motel courtyards are nice on land, but I prefer to see the water during a cruise. When I take a trip on the ocean, I want to experience the ocean.

I had a promenade room with window only, no balcony. Better than inside room, but noisy in evenings with midnight parties. I would do it again since the location is very convenient.
