What an excellent movie! I just loved it and Ricardo Cortez is always good in anything. This movie was really different, and the twist at the end was great! I Loved it.

I agree about Ricardo Cortez. He was also in 'Murder Over New York' (a Charlie Chan movie) in 1940, and came across as a very sophisticated socialite. *Not bad for a nice little Jewish boy (Jacob Kranz) from Noo Yawk, eh?

At 23:41. . . This is great !!! It makes me glad to have reached the grand old age of 71. I had just woken up from a horrible nightmare, and saw this movie available, and the name of Joan Woodbury. This sure takes my mind off the nightmare. The villain in this movie was also the villain in a movie titled THE LAST ALARM. He did both personas very well. The blond girlfriend (Iris Adrain) of the convict is a typecast "floozie." She and two of the reporters show up in these mystery movies frequently. I expected "Perry White" to exclaim "Great Caesar's ghost" at any moment. This movie was well done by the actors and the writers. the plot was nearly shrouded. Monogram Pictures showed they had class as much as the larger companies, Being a WWII baby, I watch these movies to see the clothing, cars, sets, etc of the things i saw as a child. Thanks for the entertainment. Oh, I miss this "shown" America.

The star Ricardo Cortez was born in New York (1900 - 1977) of Austrian Jewish parents and his birth name was Jacob Krantz which he later changed to Jack Crane to try and obscure his Jewish heritage - there was significant anti-Jewish sentiment in the USA in at least the first half of of the 20th century. Later, he changed his name to Richardo Cortez to try and capitalise on the huge popularity during the 1920s of the so-called "Latin lover" actors such as Rudolf Valentinoi and Ramon Novarro. He appeared in more than 100 films appearing with major female stars including Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.

Very fun movie with snappy dialogue and NO idiot comic relief characters (why do so many movies have those?). Ricardo Cortez is always fun to watch and Joan Woodbury is gorgeous! Also, nice to see a smart, bookish character who isn't an annoying, pedantic, socially clueless nerd. One quibble, though. Curare does not kill in seconds like it does in the movie. It paralyzes muscles so the victim suffocates when the diaphragm that pushes air in and out of the lungs stops working, and it generally takes at least half an hour to do so.

I always liked Ricardo Cortez , alot of people probably don't know he was,( Do I dare say it) Jewish, as people get so crazy about that word. His name was Krantz, but they changed his name to Cortez, to make the public believe that He was spanish, and to capiltilize on what was , popular in that era.(Latin lover) He is buried at Woodlawn cemetery in the Bronx. He was a good actor. and a very handsome guy. There's alot of Jewish people who are so talented, the Gershwins , George & Ira who were such talented musicians , and so many more, and most people, back then, in America, didn't have a problem with that.At least not the intelligent ones didn't, if at all. Probably way over half of the music, and movies we listen & watch are done by Jewish people.

Wrong, it would be admissible as a dying declaration, or possibly as an excited utterance. Also, even if it were not admissible, the fact he stated the person responsible for the murder would certainly have been a great aid to the police in putting pieces together now that a suspect is limited to one accomplice! . Indeed, on a lot less , they did in fact get the person responsible for ordering the hit. Case closed.

It's stupid to make such a big production out of an execution, just go in his cell take him out and fry him and tell the world after. They didn't make such a big deal when they killed the victim or victims. They don't deserve any special treatment or life just death like their victims got. What is life, 20 years but their victims are dead for eternity not 20 years. Ask anybody, 20 years in jail, where you can read write think and breath or dead where you can't even twitch a bug away from your nose. What is good for the goose is good for gander.
