Hunh.....and here all along I thought the Great Depression was caused by the "dust bowl".....inflation....stocks purchased on margin....the lingering angst of World War One....and prohibition....when it was really due to a steady diet of whiskey, cigarettes, and greasy men with pencil thin moustaches. Great classic with a sturdy cast...thank you for archiving and posting!!
Hee! Hee! This Countries foundation was built and paid for in good Spirits! {Wisky}...{Wiskey} The Mob broke our Country Tax evasion, money laundering, smuggling, and takeovers of the " small Business " on an Unprecedented scale!
Now that was a good movie! Short, “sweet” and to the point. Boy I really believed my beloved Rod La Roque as a deplorable wastrel for a little but there but I knew he’d redeem himself in record time. And I thought mid-way, if he doesn’t marry that girl, there’s no hope for him.
‘The Drag-Net’ was the second feature with Chaplin’s ‘Modern Times’ at the State Theatre, Patterson, NJ - it played in a number of small cities with ‘Modern Times’. ‘The Drag-Net’ was the second feature with ‘Early To Bed’ with Charles ‘Buddy’ Rogers and Mary Boland at the Broad Theatre, Harrisburg, PA. It was the second feature with ‘Every Saturday Night’ with June Lang at the Keith’s Theatre, Portland, ME. ‘The Drag-Net’ did not play in New York or Los Angeles, however it played one theatre in Chicago - The Midway Theatre as second feature to ‘Scandals Of Paris’ with Wendy Barrie.
Produced by "W. N. Selig." Was that Colonel Selig, the great motion-picture pioneer?! And "Burroughs-Tarzan Pictures?" Wow! One of the cast is credited as "John BarrrRy." Special effects by Ray Mercer. I used to drive by his little building in Burbank all the time.
Hi Garry🍕 Boy, you really know your Hollywood history! William Nicholas Selig (March 14, 1864 - July 15, 1948) was a vaudeville performer and pioneer of the American motion picture industry. His stage billing as Colonel Selig would be used for the rest of his career, even as he moved into film production.
Nothing but superlatives for this movie: the dumbest DA, the dumbest reporter, the dumbest gangster... Another plus, the acting lives down to all that.
Spoiler alert ----- spoiler alert spoiler alert -------- spoiler alert That guy was ao irritating to me that i found myself rooting for the bad guys to make him fail!! I almoat always would rather watch a show like this over anything made post 1975, but this one had such a duphus of a lead, along with him picking up the murder weapon at the crime scene after he previously had a similar scene and knew enough to tell everyone not to touch anything. And then he gets pursued for the crime because of that. And there was more idiotic writing that was just TOO MUCH. Including how the real killer admitted his guilt and have up his boss when he had no good reason to do so. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't watch the movie.

Except for the pencil-thin moustaches, you could be describing the events of recent history...🤔😒😢
🤣

A playful light-hearted movie with great acting. And a happy ending--of course!

Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote Tarzan etc. The city of Tarzana CA is named after him

Platinum 😊
Producer: Edgar Rice Burroughs
Maybe Jack Benny noticed his great comedic timing?
The radio columnist, Al Wilson - meant to suggest real-life columnist Earl Wilson, or just a coincidence?
@31:09, that isn't a young ZaSu Pitts is it? She fidgets with her hands that same way.
She looks a little like ZaSu but she is actress Gertrude Messinger. You're welcome!
@@dr.skipkazarian5556 Never heard of her so I looked up her Google images, and she is NOT the woman I time-stamped. Thanks anyway.
New York has been a busy town for a long, long time! 😞😄
Less than 400 years...and sold by indigents for fake trinkets. That sale needs invalidated and completely
restructured.
I always liked Rod LaRocque, but 28 minutes into this and I'm done. This is just one slow-motion scene after another.💣
Can you imagine going 50mph with a 'top hat' on (1328)?
❤❤❤
💖 ~ 👍✌🤙 Good movie.

If you wish for peace, prepare for war. 💖
This would have been a good part for Brian Aherne.

the dance choreography at 24:56 onwards was awful
Hey that’s my grandmother you’re insulting. She retired shortly after this film, for some reason, and lived to 96 yo.
What a pity that these movies are not subtitled in Spanish
Yes it would help you Americans a lot!

Typical '30s cheapie but head and shoulders above today's $100 million plus extravaganzas.
Okie dokie. I'm up to 21.00 in this film and have NO idea what it's about. But love the times and cars. More later...
