Even though I had seen this one before, I forgot how intense it was! And I agree with BT and RSC,Mr.Cortez is very good and equally adept at playing a gangster or a 'good guy' ,🎭although I especially like him as a smart good guy (personal preference) and a suave leading man!! Thanks BT,again you pick eminently watchable movies for our entertainment and keep em coming!👌🎥😁

I feel the same about Cortez, he was always good at being bad then redeemed.

Good B film from Monogram Studios. Joan
Woodbury was great. Where I work in Hollywood overlooks the old Monogram Studio, when I see it I imagine. what that era in movie making must have been like. A terrific old movie factory.

Cortez was in quite a few B-movie gangster flics but never really got his due. you could put him up against Robert Lowery any day, And I like Robert Lowery movies!

I think he was much better than Lowery, but Lowery got more of the romantic leading man roles that Cortez had hoped to get when he started out. He was NYC Jew, but they gave him a Latin screen name and tried to promote him as another Valentino.

Thanks to you both for the info on Ricardo Cortez--I'd wondered about him but hadn't looked it up. I've enjoyed him in many Charlie Chan & other of the better B-movies. Interesting, Jewish & from NY but promoted as potential Latin lover star!

PS. Didn't recognize him at first because he's much thinner but his smooth beautiful voice gave him away. He was never heavy, just more broader-built than in this one.

Harry Holman (Lanning) well know character actor! Unbelievably he was born in 1862 and was about 77 when he made this movie!

Thanks for posting another excellent film Broken Trout, an excellent mystery set in the very unusal room adjacient to the execution chambers. Great twists in the plot and must admit I got it totally wrong.

The detective theory that Mr. Landing could not commited the murder with his cigaret -holder because it belong to his daughter is just ridicilous , so what if he was not the owner ? He was still in posession of the cigaret -holder during the murder.

Good movie but why all the players are not listed in the credits....???? Like George Hamilton for instance the guy who played the editor in the Superman TV shows....

Anyone see Ricardo’s version of ‘The Maltese Falcon’? I haven’t seen it in years. I remember it being little sexier than Bogart’s version. Both great-one forgotten...

FUN flick! I thought Ricardo Cortez did much better here as a D.A. than he did as Perry Mason. And, am I the only one who thinks Joan Woodbury bears a strong resemblence to Mary Woronov?
