- Hello and Welcome to The Whoniverse, and to part three of a series of videos which take an in depth look at each incarnation of the Doctor, so in this video I’m going to be looking at the character known as the Third Doctor, this video will feature a look at the character’s identity and personality as well as a brief history or timeline of events and a look at the friends and foes he’s encountered all to answer the question: Who is the Third Doctor?

I just realized the Doctor acquires his clothes from a hospital 3 times. The 3rd , 8th, and 11th Doctor all steal somebody else's clothes from a hospital dressing room.

The Third Doctor was the perfect Doctor ...Arrogant..Adventuress....and action man.... I met Jon Pertwee many times he always had time for fans and always wore his costume at conventions....
TERRY. W it’s kinda of where peter Capaldy got the inspiration for his doctor from arrogant adventuress and action man because he grew up watching the watching the show from the hartnell and the pertwee eras but his doctor was hugely inspired by Jon Pertwee with a little bit of hartnell as well

I haven't watched classic who but the 3rd doctor seems to be one I really want to watch.
According to many BBC sources such as interviews by the old cast and crew, the 3rd Doctor's era was the same time when James Bond was popular so the Doctor was made to be manly, arrogant yet kind and adventurous. That explains why there were many action scenes and the use of many vehicles.
Mr. Pertwee's Doctor was a good Doctor, almost as good as Tom Baker's Doctor.

I love the classic series. I grew up with Jon Pertwee & Tom Baker. The last few years I’ve been trying to collect all the DVDs and Blu Ray sets. Just trying to get all the stories that exist 1963-1989. I have all the existing Patrick Troughton stories just need The War Games 3 disc set. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!!

I think my favourite story is probably Terror of the Autons. I just love the master's first appearance in this.

Favourite Moment: Fight against the guards in 'The Green Death'
Favourite Enemy: The Master ( Roger Delgado ) I also loved Lynx in the ( Time Warrior )

Jon Pertwee is my favorite, hands down. I like many others (Troughton, Davison, Eccleston) but Pertwee is IT. THE Doctor, the definite article. Best gadgets, best friends with practically his own opposite (the Brig), and Jo is the companion with the best and most developed growth arc IMO. As someone who first ran into the show in the mid 70s on PBS, Tom Baker was the first one I saw, but Pertwee just grabbed me. He was what James Bond would have been if he had a decent person and not a psychopath.
Ah good old Jon Pertwee. He was so great.

Favourite enemy: The Master
A lot of people seem to think Inferno is overrated, but it's one story that I genuinely enjoy. I love the parallel world bit.

My favorite 3rd Doctor moment was at the end of Planet of the Daleks when he was warning the victorious Thals to be careful how they told the story of war, to tell about the defeats not just the victories. To tell about the loss of life, the fear so Thals won't grow to "relish war" too much. My second favorite 3rd Doctor moment is in The Colony in Space when he tells The Master he wants to see the universe not rule it.

Thanks for the great vid! One of my fav 3rd Doctor stories is Inferno. And I love when he sings a Venusian lullaby to....ack...my brain went blank! The one creature in the first Peladon story (think it was the first one).

The 2 best Doctors are Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker hands down. They should have casted either Scott Adkins or Idris Elba to bring back the magic.

I think the thing missing from the third dr finale was the fact we could not have the Master as the principal villain because of the death of Roger Delgado in Turkey
A very well-made video. I'm looking forward to the Fourth Doctor video as Tom Baker is the one I grew up with as a child when the shows ran on PBS. I saw Jon Pertwee's shows a little later on.

In the extra things where he appeared in,you either intentionally/Unintentionally forgot to include Devious. It was a fan made episode(maybe a serial,idk). It started in 1990 something,and bound to try to depict the Second Doctor's regeneration into the third. I don't think it was completed,mainly because it started near the end of Jon Pertwee's life.
The promotional shots featuring obvious Cybermen are kind of hilarious since in his own run he never fought or even quite met them. (A captured Cybersoldier features briefly as captured in the same microscopic portable worlds machine, but the Doctor never sees this.) Reportedly, the main writer hated the Cybers and refused to use them.
Which main writer was that? The Cybermen were somewhat overused in the Troughton era. The Pertwee era was devoid of both Daleks and Cybermen until season 9, perhaps the focus shifting to Earth bound stories limited possibilities for using the "big two". Terry Nation was trying to develop a Dalek series in America hence they didn't appear for five years. Perhaps Kit Pedlar and Gerry Davis had similar ambitions for the Cybermen?

He was not the first Doctor to have "their" adventures broadcast in color. He didn't have some group of people's adventures broadcast in color. He was the first Doctor to have HIS adventures broadcast in color.

Third Dr who is the dandy and cleverly the best of thirteen of course the fourth is to and then the two before were pure fun a little lasting and crumby but ordinary time forward the blue box appears number 3 the the Dr Who is ever the first person to contact to solve a mystery issue that earth could not or they need it sorted well sometimes never solved first time round things alway happen again slightly different or similar in time and space with the Doctor but often he/she remains and helps the long way round?
Jon Pertwe fantastically the 70s Time Lord among the star now forever travelling with his companions Sarah and the rest who are know longer with us again the grand man of time and space R.I.P Jon our Doctor very much missed

The second Doctor was forced to regenerate via court Order! Literally putting him to death! Taking one of his lives by force and exiled him to a primitive planet ! That's about the worst thing that you can do to the Doctor!

The third Doctor never needed a male assistant like the first and second drs and if Jon Pertwee had stayed the dr for subsequent seasons I imagine he would have just kept with one female assistant
