Matt Smith had the biggest hurdle to jump. Being the youngest actor and succeeding Tennant who was universally beloved. But, he did such a great job! He had my favorite costume of the revival era with the bowtie, sonic screwdriver, and companions with Amy and Rory.

Even his facial movements exhibit that. And it even suits his rather unique face which looks like it's made of dough, as in half done.

The fact that Capaldi's incarnation of the Doctor appeared to be a few years older than his beloved wife, must have been somewhat comforting to River. For her, the Doctor has appeared younger each regeneration, sort of the Benjamin Button effect, while she has continued to age in what for humans is the normal progression from young to old. I like to think that they spend her last 20+ years gazing lovingly into each other's eyes, and laughing together.

I was born 2005, so I've been watching Doctor Who my entire life. Technically I grew up with Tennet but most of my early memories of Doctor Who were with Smith, 11 is my doctor.

Even the way he's lolliping around, slapping his water bottle lid as he walks onto the set, is just so much of the style we came to know and love, that wonderful gangliness he brought to the character.

I recently introduced my kids to Dr. Who. My son is 5 and my daughter is 3, right about the age my dad sat me down to watch Tom Baker as The Doctor. There are so many factors when introducing someone to this show, so I decided to go with Matt Smith. 11th Hour is a brilliant intro to The Doctor, 11 is goofy and hysterical and Little Pond is adorable and relatable to kids, there's a scary monster! It's so great. It's always hard picking a favorite Doctor but my 2nd answer after Tom Baker is (almost) always Matt.

Doctor Who has been able to remain the same by embracing change. That's not a contradiction, it's an essential part of the mix. Just enough core values and characteristics, overlayed with drastic changes. Equal parts knowing _what_ will happen in the storylines while leaving us amazed at the unexpected _how_ it happens.
A huge thank you to everyone involved over the decades.

I absolutely love seeing this. It's so cool to see all the behind the scenes stuff and hearing all these different stories from the directors and crew. Matt Smith did such a Fantastic(see what I did there ;) ) job portraying the next doctor after David Tennant. Both Matt and David are my absolute favorites and I couldn't imagine their doctors being played by anyone else.

An absolute nobody at that point, coming in to follow the (arguably) most beloved Doctor to date. I remember being nervous for him, and also having high expectations of him, and thinking he bloody nailed it. He is by far the best Doctor in my opinion. Each to their own of course

Matt Smith did a great job as the Doctor. In the ensuing Eleventh Hour, he did so good, and it took until the Atraxi slideshow near the end to remember David was even gone, and...
    Matt Smith is great.

He came in with a doctor who "hello", with all the energy we expect and nothing less, one second on the set, and we already accept him as the doctor. His nervous energy, his mannerisms, all made him one of the best doctor. And the story that followed, "The Girl who waited". Just brilliantly done. I was in tears. with his performance. He's kind of my fave. I. always recommend people to start watching Season 5 Doctor Who, for those who haven't watched one bit. before. Its just perfect.
