  • Can I break 90? - EVERY SHOT IN 13 MINUTES (front 9)
    A round of golf at Holywell golf club in North Wales. It's a par 69 inland links course that was founded in 1906.
    The green fees were £20 for 18 holes in June 2022.
    The back 9 from this day will be posted on Friday at 1pm (17th June) .
    I'm James, a golfer with a dodgy swing now playing off a 13.1 handicap. I had taken 4 golf lessons to improve my swing on the day of play.
    I'm looking to continuously break 90 on the courses I play. Even if I don't shoot a good score I always enjoy strolling around the fairways of North Wales, UK :-)

    It's so interesting watching your channel, James, from an American perspective.
    I can honestly say I don't believe I would ever hear a golfer in America say, "I marked my ball, removed the sheep droppings with my foot, then proceeded to putt."
    The things you see on golf courses there are just very different from here, and that makes your channel unique sir.
    Great job on the birdie and multiple pars. Looking forward to the back 9.

    James, I echo some of the other comments: swing changes take time and it can be frustrating until the results show up on course. Wait till late fall/winter and work on them at the range where you don't have to worry about scoring.

      You don't have to worry about scoring in the summer either, it's a choice we make as golfers whether to count a round or not.

  • @rbiel100
    @rbiel100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    as you say "happy days" (so - golf is a game of mistakes right? - you just need to hit that ball consistently (more times than not). when you "catch it" there is no doubt that you can be a single digit handicap. I believe you could have knocked off 5 or 6 strokes that you lost due to mishits. you are totally on track to being a very very good golfer. you don't need more distance, you don't need a 'draw' you just need to hit the ball more consistently (don't we all??????) and I believe you made the right decision on going back to your swing - not the new one - there is NO need to change it. Be safe and thank you so much for always making me smile and motivating me to practice more! Ron

    Back to your old swing and apart from the one OB drive you seemed more comfortable.You missed a few short putts but that can be the greens and a little lack of concentration.striking the ball really well so just keep going and you will keep improving.

  • @iambecomepaul
    @iambecomepaul 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This will be unusual for me but I’m going to encourage you to go back to your “new” swing. There are ample reasons: 1) you’ll get more distance-profoundly more; 2) you’ll be able to attack those 180 par 3s with an iron. The shorter shaft will give you more control/accuracy; 3) with length, you’ll have more options for second shots (i.e., “maybe I’ll hit a knock down under the wind). That’s a lot harder to do when your only viable option to hit the green is a 22°. 4) you’re playing well enough for bogey golf but it will be deuce difficult to get much better; 5) the new takeaway will help you develop “flip” wedges that are not CURRENTLY in your repertoire.
    I understand why you may have misgivings but I really do think it’s how you have more fun with your game in the long run. That’s just my opinion, however.

    • @briangray00
      @briangray00 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      NOooooo!
      We're all about non-experts offering opinions these days, so there's mine. It wasn't broke before James. Keep doing what you've been doing, refine it, fine tune it, take it as far as you're able. You've knocked off 16 shots in a year ffs. WHEN you get bored of shooting 84s take on the swing change.

    I noticed on the 7th green where you missed the par putt that you moved your head and followed the ball. Try to keep your head still and listen for the bal to drop into the hole. This will hopefully cut down the number of short putts you miss and lower your scores.

    Alright bud. You seemed much happier back with the old swing. But you said you'd hit the wall with it so maybe just stick with the new. Once it clicks and it starts to feel more natural you can kick on. But whatever you decide we shall keep watching regardless! I'm working in Llandudno this week. I think I passed a course you played! Might give it a try on Friday when I pack up! Ha

    I like your swing. You get anywhere from 20-30 more yards with irons and upwards to 50 more yards with driver than I do. I can’t hit a 22 degree hybrid. I can’t hit anything 200 yards or more except which in a while I will hit my driver longer and get close to 200, but not very often. Any swing tips? I can’t seem to get any distance. You seem to hit the ball more solidly than I do. I usually miss hit…fat, thin…slice the driver.
