    Great video brother. Can you do a video explaining how to connect the UB9000 to an DENON AVR using the analog preouts? I hear that it can enhance the sound a great deal in movies because it would then be using the high quality inbuilt DACS for audio processing in the movie.

    • @JilesMcCoy
      @JilesMcCoy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey - How man channels are you looking to use in your theater? The 9000 only has 7.1 analog outputs so that might limit what you can achieve using it that way. Lots of folks doing things this way run a 7.1 system and just use the player as their preamp. Wire this direcly to amplifiers.

    Nice video but a couple of issues, could have been so much better
    1) a projector has practical no dynamic range so the advaNced setting will show almost no change. Chuck it ON an OLED and the max and minimum settings will destroy the

      I have the very same Panasonic player, and the very same problem. Flat and dull 4K picture quality, especially when compared directly to the 4K disc's standard Blu-ray counterpart.
      I'm watching on a Sony OLED, and EVERY 4K movie I watch looks dull and flat compared to its standard Blu-ray version.
      The only way I can get comparable picture quality from 4K discs to compare to the SDR Blu-rays is to run contrast brutally high, and likewise the colour and brightness.
      What I'm clumsily trying to say is that by using the same picture settings on each HDMI input, my Blu-rays look more vibrant, and colourful than the 4K versions.
      Is the only way to make 4K Blu-ray 'pop' really just a matter of running the TV's contrast very high? But if that's the case, then I could turn up the contrast on a standard Blu-ray and blow the 4K outta the water..
      I must be doing something wrong, but I have no idea what.

      I know this is old, but I'll leave it here for future reference.
      The answer is, it depends on your receiver. If your AVR is capable of decoding or passing through HDR, you only need to connect one HDMI from your UB820 to the AVR, then from the AVR to the TV or projector.
      My AVR can't handle the latest HDMI standard (only v1.4). It can't pass through 4k anymore, so I have one HDMI to the AVR for surround audio and one to the TV for 4k video.

    • @mrb0775
      @mrb0775 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stugtodd2778 As a carrier for digital signals, an HDMI cable either works, or if it's defective, or of extremely shoddy construction, the TV or AVR won't get ANY signal at all! As countless tests of HDMI cables done by Consumer Reports, & other honest testing venues have shown, even a $6 HDMI cable, such as those available on Amazon, will provide video and audio that's identical in quality to these $1,100 cables that certain rip-off companies sucker the unwary into buying. In the days of analog (non-digital) video and audio signals being sent through cables, one could argue for paying more than rock bottom prices for cables since analog signals are vulnerable to certain types of interference (such as from RF signals), so analog cables had to have sufficient shielding to block such interference that might cause video noise or audio distortion. BUT, digital signals, by their nature, are IMMUNE to such interference. So you don't have digital signals being degraded by interference as they travel through an HDMI cable. With HDMI, signals either make it through a cable in the identical form that they had when first entering the cable, or signals won't make it through the cable at all! Signals not getting through can occur with HDMI cables so poorly made their connectors can't make good connections with your equipment, or there's a break somewhere within the cable. BTW, with both the 77 inch Sony Master Series OLED that we purchased in early 2021, as well as with the 85" Samsung QN90B top of the line mini-LED/LCD TV that we bought 3 weeks ago, we use Monster Cable HDMI cables of their Gold Series which cost us just $5 each for the cables we got in the 4 ft. length, and $7 each for the cables of the same series that we needed in the 6 ft. length. We got those cables at a NE Ohio discount store called Ollie's, that must have bought a large close-out of Monster cables, because the store has a ton of them. Plus, the specifications for the cables show that they have the high speed type required for 4K HDR, as the cables can transmit signals at a data rate of 21 Mega-bits per second. Long story short, those HDMI cables, in spite of their very low price, provide totally stunning video and audio results with our top grade home theater equipment!

      I kinda get your point, but being a audiophile and coming from that world where your best high end gear doesn’t have tone knobs to adjust sound on the CD or vinyl you’re listening to, you are hearing what the artist intended, good or bad, and of course some disc will sound better than others, I feel the same way when I throw in a movie, it’s like, let’s see who got it right, or not, without me trying to “fix” it for them when I don’t know what they intended it to look like anyway! So, I’m leaning toward the Sony X800M2, because I have one downstairs on my Sony A9g, I know when the director got it right, the picture will be outstanding, and when they didn’t, I don’t have to spend my time playing cinematographer. lol

      Just run video and audio into your avr and then run hdmi from the earc port on the avr to the tv and you’ll be good.

    Great vids. I have ub-450 and I cant find pretty much nothing difference between 4K and blu-ray movies. With 4K colours are washed and cant see any advantage with higher resolution either. Ub-450 has no HDR adjustments. Do I really need to buy ub-820 to see somekind of boost in quality. Pretty disapointted atm. Just bought this ub-450... They say example Jaws 4K has insane quality etc. I have tested it a lot. I cant see any improvements in dark areas or colours. Is that upscale so good, that blu-ray comes so near 4K quality. Either way, whole 4K is big disapointment to me. TV settings are ok. What should I try?

      i think it does run 4k files but you won't get lossless audio formats like DTS HD Master or dolby atmos, you will be stuck with DD AC-3 or stereo. For digital files you need a mediaplayer.

      Yeah...watching movies through USB of this player is pretty much useless,video works in many cases but not audio.
      Im using the mediaplayer in my LG tv for that purpose.(through USB)...it plays everything it seems and no video or audio issues,picture quality is also better than through 820s USB.

      Slyder695 this is the same case with the UB9000. It’s the only issue I’ve ran into on mine, 4k hdr blurays are fine so far, but I’m having an issue with a dolby vision series on the built in Netflix app. Where by, you can physically see the entire screen luminance change from one scene to the next, dark bright bright dark..so tempted to turn the optimiser off for Netflix and see if it makes any difference.

      Slyder695 albeit, Dolby vision is a format of the creators intent, so they don’t allow you to mess with the format it’self. Lol

    Is it better use EARC for the audio for the player or use HDMI from player to the soundbar? I'm using LG soundbar that has EARC and I am wondering if its better connect to the TV for better Dolby Atmos audio because if connect it to HDMI on soundbar I dont think it as good of audio?

      LG SN9YG 5.1.2 Channel 520W Dolby Atmos Sound Bar with LG C10 4k OLED.. I'm asking you if I should use HDMI in or use EARC for the sound. The soundbar itself does have built in decoder so by plugging the 4k Blu-Ray directly into HDMI in should give me more access to sound codecs since LGS 4k OLEDs are limited to only DTS True HD audio and Dolby Atmos but cannot do DTS HD MASTER AUDIO from EARC. But I am wondering if can still get full the chroma subsampling. However it is only 10 bit TV so the HDMI in should give me full access to the TVS capabilities when plugging it into HDMI in right when trying do Dolby Vision correct? I think EARC would be best for game consoles where HDMI IN would be best suited for this player right?

    • @JilesMcCoy

      @@JilesMcCoy So plugging the player into the TV itself would produce a much better picture than if I put the 4k Blu-Ray player into the HDMI In? Would this improve the sound as well? @@JilesMcCoy I know EARC is good for PS5 because thats only way you could get 4k at 120 HZ with sound. But soundbar does have HDMI in with HDMI 2.0 and that should actually support everything player needs to do right? I'm kinda running out of ports and I am trying figure out if I should just plug in the player directly. I got Apple 4k TV, Cable Box, PS5 and this 4k Blu-Ray player so I'm guessing I should just plug 4k Blu-Ray player directly into HDMI in on the soundbar and use rest for EARC right? I mean LG literally said that HDMI IN is for Dolby Vision 4k Blu-Ray Players and they added port just for that reason and its supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos so guess the Panasonic 4k Blu-Ray Player would be fine connected directly in right?
