I'm pretty the author of OverLord was also heavily inspired by Mushoku Tensei.
i mean that is pretty expected since this was the source of almost all the isekai tropes as the origin of most web novel isekai reincarnation.
Almost every author from Syosetuka ni Narou are fans of Mushoku Tensei, no lie.
Re:Zero, Konosuba, Slime, Spider, Shield Hero, Bookworm, Log Horizon, Arifureta, etc, etc... are all novels that ran on that website.
And Mushoku Tensei was the No.1 novel on that site for its ENTIRE RUN. It was voted the most popular month after month for five years. None of the above series came close to dethroning MT from the top spot while it was serialized.
That's how influential Mushoku Tensei is to Narou novels, and the Isekai scene as a whole.
The studio who is doing this series, was basically created for it. Its a very new studio, if u go look for it

The author of mushoku tensei and rezero are friends. Both series released around the same time and gained popularity along side each other. Mushoku tensei holding the top spot in the light novel rankings for around 5 years
And still in the rankings even though its already concluded for years. That says a lot

And he has to do so all his life. He never forgets his past life.

Same. I also love how, despite his talent with magic, he was (re)born with a disadvantage that makes it hard for him to be a swordsman(like his new father wanted him to be).
trauma will forever follow him, no matter if he become someone else that's why I like this show so much
And remember, the whole story is about him growing up, from being born until his death, and that's a good journey.

while others are like wish machines, mushoku tensei is about growth and facing past regrets
Yeah, at some point it became a contest of who has the better starting skill.
And once reincarnated as a slime clinched that with rimurus ability to take absorb other skills, it became who can make a better version of that same ability.

If i can nail it down it was a sense of progress. Many Isekai is immediately get OP power so they only need master it or even just stealing skill like arifureta and tensei. In mushoku the MC literally studying the basic added it with previous knowledge to achieve better result.
The funny thing is that historically, separate rooms is a pretty modern commodity in European house design. In the feudal era, open layouts were the norm and they'd be making his sister with him in the room.
But then the series would be a hentai

The one thing i found most intriguing about the anime is how human every character feels
like the unexpecting scene of the parents going at it, they gave off human nature i haven't really seen in anime except for a few
Next episode and beyond will broaden on that feeling and show how human they are
they are all, human its one of the most realistic and living character feeling series there is.
It’s human and relatable. Roxy scene was such a surprise lol
One thing I really liked about the show is that it does not remove all the flaws in Rudy's character from his past. The show still treats him as the same adult just in child's body, with the same character flaws and outlook on women. It might be somewhat uncomfortable to watch a child behaving as such, but it allows a path for the character to grow with time and experience in to a better person.
One clear example of this was how Rudy's view of Roxy changed from Episode 1 to 2. He initially only saw her as a source of sexual gratification, but by the time she left, he developed a new found respect and genuine gratefulness for her. I hope the show keeps doing that ahead.
Just to let everyone know that this is the god Father of Isekai, all the tropes were because of this, even still, the story and writing still surpasses many newer isekais, now you can imagine how good this is.

The moment I've herd Gintoki's VA doing the narration I knew this was going to be special.
I tell you, the man's hardly even acting. Most of his lines are just things that Sugita Tomokazu would actually just say.
I liked how the MC was normal to his parents goin crazy in their room, and thinking "I will get a sister probably" 😂

It's a shame that people are just brushing it off as another isekai, when in reality it was this show's original source was the one of the first that laid the foundation for isekai and did it better than 95 percent of it's successors. I'm so happy that it's wonderfully adapted
This is basically just the prologue of Mushuku Tensei and it will just keep getting better and better.

I'm normally not into Ecchi, but Mushoku somehow makes it work by tying it to character development.

However, Mushoku makes it work cause it's the culmination of an entire character arc.

"If its the grandfather of ISekai, why hasn't anybody adapt it?" some of you may wonder? because its too daunting of a series to adapt. The series spanned over 20+ volumes and cover the life of Rudeus from 0 to over 25+ years old, there's many different arcs that relates to each other, if anyone want to adapt this properly. it has to go with like, 4,5 seasons with over 75+ episodes, yes its as long as what shonen series wants, but each and every episode of it is filled to the brim with content and purpose, theres no filler at all, so there's really no cutting corner on any of them
Thats why a new studio taking this task is both a good and a bad thing, one nobody knows how they'd actually be, but also 1st outing of a new studio is exactly where they'd put their utmost effort in, so yeah. I'm looking forward to it.

As someone who finished reading the novel of this from Volume 1 to Volume 24 a few years ago, it gives me a nostalgic feeling of how good this story is. I loved every moment of me reading this story and seeing this having an anime after 5 years when the series ended, I'm not gonna say anything but I'm truly happy for this to have an adaptation.
I'm glad Chibi came up in my recommendations. I feel like it's been too long since I've seen one of his videos.

This is an example of an Isekai that’s done right/well, not perfect but done ina way that doesn’t feel like other isekai?
It’s like it’s not using the usual RPG things in it, example, skill points, a level system, it’s like life, you have to work hard and gain experience to progress, it honestly feels like a different world

The reason it isn't anything new because it's the light novel that popularized all the stuff we consider cliche in isekai. This light novel laid the groundwork for most isekai that came after it.
this is the series that was so good that it made me start reading light novels.
i read the manga for this like 2 years ago and was cliff hanged so badly that it made me think of this series for weeks on end and just settled to just wait for the manga. but since it was quarantine I decided why not try reading the light novel, and i did i was so hooked in the story that i stayed up 24 hrs just reading it I probably stayed up for a lot longer but, I forgot the concept of time while i was reading it, it was like the sacred text of the holy church for me. That 1st day of reading was pure bliss even if it was my 1st time reading a light novel I was so engrossed and so passionate about reading it and then i spent the over 2 months reading it and trying to hold myself back to not finish it so quickly. It was like getting lost in another world and i enjoyed every single word, sentence, chapter, and volume of it.
tldr: Just a passionate mumbling of an addicted reader. :)

I think the thing with Main characters that are OP is that authors often don't understand it's only a tool for writing (being op) it's not the entire plot, you can definitely make a great op character as long as you know that the OP of the character is just it, a trait, not the whole story.
and the best authors that do understand this, can definitely make something amazing
and it’s a LOT better when he becomes “OP” through years of hard work, study and practice. Mushoku Tensei did this beautifully

I've read most of the WN (I'm on vol 20 of 25) and I can safely say it is a very good series. Especially the start of his adult arc (teenage arc is good too).

Prob you won't see this but reading this story really is my number one. When I read it I wondered how they were going to anime it. As the biggest part of the story is the inner monologue like it 3/4th the story. Is held in the details. Once the anime is over I'd 100% recommend reading it from the start.
I had no idea you were gonna review this because it could look like the average power trope isekai but TRUST ME this series only keeps giving and giving and my favorite part is you get to watch Rudy become the OP MC
For anyone interested: This is an OG isekai, which birthed the Truck-kun trope and meme.
I would say this anime is a classical isekai but definitely not the og isekai

God, please stay away from reading spoilers anywhere Chibi. This series is so fantastically good that you should keep yourself COMPLETELY blind for the anime. I’d even say it’s worth waiting for the second series without reading the light novel because so far they’ve adapted it so, so perfectly!
The animation is some of the best I have seen lately...and the characters are VERY well written. You already have an attachment to them after just a couple episodes...and that's no small feat! The author is also very good at showing just how mindblowing learning magic is...I don't think I have seen a better introduction to magic! (Ascendance of a Bookworm was pretty good at it too, with a much slower burn to reveal magic in the new world) I look forward to watching future episodes, and even signed up for a Funimation subscription to watch this specific anime. Cant wait for more!

Been saying this for years... i will never understand why they adapted all the less interesting ones before adapting this. Like i love Isekai Smartphone as a novel, it's super fun... but it isn't exactly great writing. Mushoku has great characters, from the MC all the way to the minor side characters.
I feel that people who get super upset at Rudy being a bit ecchi are really missing out, but that's on them i guess.

Definitely on top of my fav LN I've read and I have read tons of isekai LN. The story is very captivating from start to the end. This also have a satisfying ending that is quite rare in my opinion. Really looking forward how far they are going with this because the series is LONG.

If ya can’t wait. Then I highly recommend the WN/LN. I don’t recommend the manga only because they skip/skimp over some very important things. But the illustrations are great.
I just watched it this morning. It's beautiful, it's refreshing and the animation is amazing. In fact, the animation is far better than most of the shows that came out. Looks very promising and will be waiting for more episodes to come out.

it started the isekai trend not because its the first to be written but because it ranked first in syosetu, a platform like wattpad where amateur writers can submit their novel online, for a very long time.(even topping novels such as Rezero, Overlord and Konosuba)
These people realized that isekai stories can make you a successful writer and have your novel be published and thats why there literally have thousands of these isekai nowadays. Thats how popular Mushoku Tensei in web novel industry back then.

Just gonna say this here. Kumo desu ga (The spider reincarnation) and Mushoku Tensei are two of my all time favorite isekais. Mushoku Tensei being the second WN I ever read.
This is the grandfather of Isekai and the source material is amazing and deals with a lot of heavier stuff later on

Love this anime , it blew my expectations way out of the water...the animation is gorgeous, story seems great so far, and I love the way they didn’t stray away from the echi/adult themes but didn’t do it in a cheap way to get views and counts just on that. They did it in a refined way. I’m looking forward to where this goes and the academy.
